1Identification and expression profiling of Vigna mungo microRNAs from leaf small RNA transcriptome by deep sequencing显示文摘MicroRNAs(miRNAs) represent a class of small non-coding RNA molecules that play a crucial role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. Several conserved and species-specific miRNAs have been characterized to date, predominantly from the plant species whose genome is well characterized. However, information on the variability of these regulatory RNAs in economically important but genetically less characterized crop species are limited. Vigna mungo is an important grain legume, which is grown primarily for its protein-rich edible seeds. miRNAs from this species have not been identified to date due to lack of genome sequence information. To identify miRNAs from V. mungo, a small RNA library was constructed from young leaves. High-throughput Illumina sequencing technology and bioinformatic analysis of the small RNA reads led to the identification of 66 miRNA loci represented by 45 conserved miRNAs belonging to 19 families and eight non-conserved miRNAs belonging to seven families. Besides, 13 novel miRNAcandidates in V. mungo were also identified. Expression patterns of selected conserved, non-conserved, and novel miRNA candidates have been demonstrated in leaf, stem, and root tissues by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and potential target genes were predicted for most of the conserved miRNAs. 2Texture analysis on parametric maps derived from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in head and neck cancer显示文摘AIM: To investigate the merits of texture analysis on parametric maps derived from pharmacokinetic modeling with dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(DCE-MRI) as imaging biomarkers for the prediction of treatment response in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC). METHODS: In this retrospective study,19 HNSCC patients underwent pre- and intra-treatment DCEMRI scans at a 1.5T MRI scanner. All patients had chemo-radiation treatment. Pharmacokinetic modeling was performed on the acquired DCE-MRI images,generating maps of volume transfer rate(Ktrans) and volume fraction of the extravascular extracellular space(ve). Image texture analysis was then employed on maps of Ktrans and ve,generating two texture measures: Energy(E) and homogeneity.RESULTS: No significant changes were found for the mean and standard deviation for Ktrans and ve between pre- and intra-treatment(P > 0.09). Texture analysis revealed that the imaging biomarker E of ve was significantly higher in intra-treatment scans,relative to pretreatment scans(P < 0.04). 3Demographic determinants of risk,colon distribution and density scores of diverticular disease显示文摘AIM:To investigate associations between ethnicity,age and sex and the risk,colon distribution and density scores of diverticular disease(DD).METHODS:Barium enemas were examined in 1000 patients:410 male,590 female;760 whites,62 Asians,44 black africans(BAs),and 134 other blacks(OBs).Risks and diverticula density of left-sided DD(LSDD) and rightsided-component DD(RSCDD = right-sided DD + right and left DD + Pan-DD) were compared using logistic regression.RESULTS:Four hundred and forty-seven patients had DD(322 LSDD and 125 RSCDD).Adjusted risks:(1) LSDD:each year increase in age increased the odds by 6%(95% CI:5-8,SE:0.8%,P < 0.001);Asians:odds ratio(OR):0.23(95% CI:0.10-0.53,SE:0.1,P ≤ 0.001) and OBs:OR:0.25(95% CI:0.14-0.43,SE:0.07,P ≤ 0.001) appeared protected vs Whites;(2) RSCDD:each year increase in age increased the odds by 4%(95% CI:2-6,SE:1%,P < 0.001);females were 0.60 times(95% CI:0.40-0.90,SE:0.12,P = 0.01) less likely than males to have RSCDD;BAs were 3.51 times(95% CI:1.70-7.24,SE:1.30,P < 0.001) more likely than Whites to have RSCDD;and(3) DD density scores:each year increase in age increased the odds of highdensity scores by 4%(95% CI:1-6,SE:1%,P < 0.001);RSCDD was 2.77 times(95% CI:1.39-3.32,SE:0.67,P < 0.001) more likely to be of high density than LSDD.No further signif icant differences were found in the adjusted models.CONCLUSION:Right colonic DD might be more common and has higher diverticula density in the west than previously reported.BAs appear predisposed to DD,whereas other ethnic differences appear conserved following migration.Mark Golder Irina Chis Ster Pratusha Babu Amita Sharma Muhammad Bayat Abdulkadir Farah 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,8:4
4And-hyperglycemic activity of leaves extract of Hyptis suavcolens L.Poit in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antihyperglycemic activity of leaves of Hyptis suaveolens using streptozotocin model.Mothods:Hyptis suaveolens extract(HSE) 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight was administered orally to streptozotocin induced diabetes,once daily for 21 days.Results:A significant reduction in blood glucose was observed in diabetic animals treated with HSE at different doses when compared with diabetic rats.Levels of triglyceride,total cholesterol,low density lipoprolein.very low density lipoprotein were decreased while administering HSE at different doses,compared with their control values in diabetic animals.Conclusions:Our results show that HSE possesses significant antihyperglycemic activity which might be attributed to stimulating effects on glucose utilization and antioxidant enzyme.Shanti Bhushan Mishra Amita Verma Alok Mukerjee Vijayakumar M 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,9:4

6Metastatic clear cell variant of hepatocellular carcinoma with an occult hepatic primary显示文摘Metastatic clear cell carcinomas are commonly seen in the kidney and lung. Clear cell variant of hepatocellular carci- noma is an uncommon tumour. Diagnosis is usually made by correlation of histopathology. tumour markers and im- munohistochemistry, especially HepPar 1. In this unusual case of metastatic clear cell carcinoma presenting as Sister Mary Joseph’s nodule, no primary evidence was observed radiologically in the liver, but the level of alfa fetoprotein was markedly elevated. 7Multimodality functional imaging using DW-MRI and 18F-FDG-PET/CT during radiation therapy for human papillomavirus negative head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: Meixoeiro Hospital of Vigo Experience显示文摘AIM To noninvasively investigate tumor cellularity measured using diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging(DW-MRI) and glucose metabolism measured by 18 Flabeled fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(18F-FDG-PET/CT) during radiation therapy(RT) for human papillomavirus negative(HPV-) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC).METHODS In this prospective study, 6 HPV- HNSCC patients underwent a total of 34 multimodality imaging examinations(DW-MRI at 1.5 T Philips MRI scanner [(n = 24) pre-, during-(2-3 wk), and post-treatment(Tx), and 18F-FDG PET/CT pre- and post-Tx(n = 10)]. All patients received RT. Monoexponential modeling of the DW-MRI data yielded the imaging metric apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) and the mean of standardized uptake value(SUV) was measured from 18F-FDG PET uptake. All patients had a clinical follow-up as the standard of care and survival status was documented at 1 year.RESULTS There was a strong negative correlation between the mean of pretreatment ADC(ρ =-0.67, P = 0.01) and the pretreatment 18F-FDG PET SUV. The percentage(%) change in delta(?) 12Role of eIF4E on epithelial-mesenchymal transition,invasion,and chemoresistance of prostate cancer cells显示文摘Dear Editor,Prostate cancer(PCa)is the most common cancer and second leading cause of cancer death for men in the United States[1].PCa with similar Gleason score has been reported to show substantial interpatient heterogeneity and differential prostate cancer-specific mortality rate[2].Such heterogeneity in PCa often results in different therapeutic responses among patients,including therapy resistance,therapeutic failure,relapse,and metastasis[3].Numerous oncogenes,such as eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E(eIF4E),have been reported to be involved in epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)and/or drug resistance in PCa[4].We previously demonstrated that eIF4E overexpression was involved in chemoresistance of triple-negative breast cancer and silencing eIF4E significantly inhibited cancer cell proliferation and sensitized cancer cells to chemotherapy in a patient-derived xenograft mouse model[5].In addition,eIF4E phosphorylation is known to stimulate the translation of matrix metalloproteinase 3(MMP3)and Snail mRNAs to promote EMT in PCa[6].Furthermore,the complexity and dynamic nature of EMT contributes to the heterogeneity of aggressive cancer cells[7].The precise role of eIF4E in EMT,invasion,and chemoresistance in PCa is still to be established with consideration of different subpopulations in order to develop precision medicine for PCa.In this work,we aimed to explore the role of eIF4E in EMT,invasion,and chemoresistance in PCa for establishing a promising new therapeutic strategy by regulating eIF4E expression using(1-aminoethyl)iminobis[Noleicylcysteinyl-1-aminoethyl)propionamide](ECO)/small interfering RNA(siRNA)nanoparticles previously developed in our lab[8-10]for PCa therapy in the context of tumor heterogeneity.Xujie Liu Amita M Vaidya Da Sun Yan Zhang Nadia Ayat Andrew Schilb Zheng-Rong Lu 2020Cancer Communications2020,40,2:2
