During the progression of the disease, a majority of CKD patients suffer oral complications. Dental implants are currently the most reliable and successful treatment for missing teeth. However, due to complications of CKD such as infections,bone lesions, bleeding risks, and altered drug metabolism, dental implant treatment for renal failure patients on dialysis is more challenging. In this review, we have summarized the characteristics of CKD and previous publications regarding dental treatments for renal failure patients. | 5 | Histological healing favors lower risk of colon carcinoma in extensive ulcerative colitis显示文摘AIM:To search for the answer in extensive ulcerative colitis as to whether histological inflammation persisting despite endoscopic mucosal healing serves to increase the risk of colon cancer(CC)or high grade dysplasia(HGD).METHODS:This is a single center(Lenox Hill Hospital)retrospective cohort and descriptive study of extensive ulcerative colitis(UC)for 20 years or more with a minimum of 3 surveillance colonoscopies and biopsies performed after the first 10 years of UC diagnosis.Data analyzed included:duration of UC,date of diagnosis of(CC)or(HGD),number of surveillance colonoscopies,and biopsies showing histological inflammation and its severity in each of 6 segments when endoscopic appearance is normal.Two subgroups of patients were compared:group 1 patients who developed CC/HGD and group 2 patients who did not develop CC/HGD.RESULTS:Of 115 patients with longstanding UC reviewed,68 patients met the inclusion criteria.Twenty patients were in group 1 and 48 in group 2.We identified the number of times for each patient when the endoscopic appearance was normal but biopsies nevertheless showed inflammation.Overall,histological disease activity in the absence of gross/endoscopic disease was found in 31.2%(95%CI:28%-35%)of colonoscopies performed on the entire cohort of 68 patients.Histological disease activity when the colonoscopy showed an absence of gross disease activity was more common in group 1 than group 2 patients,88%(95%CI:72%-97%)vs 59%(95%CI:53%-64%).Only 3/20(15%)of patients in group 1 ever had a colonoscopy completely without demonstrated disease activity(i.e.,no endoscopic or histological activity)as compared to 37/48(77%)of patients in group 2,and only 3.3%(95%CI:0.09%-8.3%)of colonoscopies in group 1 had no histological inflammation compared to23%(95%CI:20%-27%)in group 2.CONCLUSION:Progression to HGD or CC in extensive ulcerative colitis of long standing was more frequently encountered among those patients who demonstrate persistent histological inflammation in the absence of gross mucosal disease.Our findings support including the elimination of histological inflammation in the definition of mucosal healing,and support this endpoint as an appropriate goal of therapy because of its risk of increasing dysplasia and colon cancer. | Burton I Korelitz Keith Sultan Megha Kothari Leo Arapos Judy Schneider Georgia Panagopoulos | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,17: | 4 |
| 6 | Effects of seed mixture sowing with transgenic Bt rice and its parental line on the population dynamics of target stemborers and leafrollers, and non-target planthoppers显示文摘The widespread planting of insect-resistant crops has caused a dramatic shift in agricultural landscapes, thus raising concerns about the potential impacts on both target and non-target pests. In this study, we examined the potential effects of intra-specific seed mixture sowing with transgenic Bt rice (Bt) and its parental non-transgenic line (Nt)(100% Bt rice [Bt100], 5% Nt+95% Bt [Nt05Bt95], 10% Nt+90% Bt [Nt|0Bt90], 20% Nt+80% Bt [Nt2oBtso], 40% Nt+60% Bt [Nt4oBt6O] and 100% Nt rice [Ntjoo]) on target and non-target pests in a 2-year field trial in southern China. The occurrence of target pests, Sesamia inf evens. Chilo suppressalis and Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, decreased with the increased ratio of Bt rice, and the mixture ratios with more than 90% Bt rice (Btjoo and Nt()5Bt95) significantly increased the pest suppression efficiency, with the lowest occurrences of non-target planthoppers, Nilaparvata lugens and Sogatella jurcijera in Ntioo and NtosBtgs. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in 1000?grain dry weight and grain dry weight per 100 plants between Btjoo and NtosBtgs,Seed mixture sowing of Bt rice with <10%(especially 5%) of its parent line was sufficient to overcome potential compliance issues that exist with the use of block or structured refuge to provide most effective control of both target and non-target pests without compromising the grain yield. | 10 | Reliable cell purification and determination of cell purity:crucial aspects of olfactory ensheathing cell transplantation for spinal cord repair显示文摘Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells,the glia of the primary olfactory nervous system,has been trialed for spinal cord injury repair with promising but variable outcomes in animals and humans.Olfactory ensheathing cells can be harvested either from the lamina propria beneath the neuroepithelium in the nasal cavity,or from the olfactory bulb in the brain.As these areas contain several other cell types,isolating and purifying olfactory ensheathing cells is a critical part of the process.It is largely unknown how contaminating cells such as fibroblasts,other glial cell types and supporting cells affect olfactory ensheathing cell function post-transplantation;these cells may also cause unwanted side-effects.It is also,however,possible that the presence of some of the contaminant cells can improve outcomes.Here,we reviewed the last decade of olfactory ensheathing cell transplantation studies in rodents,with a focus on olfactory ensheathing cell purity.We analyzed how purification methods and resultant cell purity differed between olfactory mucosa-and olfactory bulb-derived cell preparations.We analyzed how the studies reported on olfactory ensheathing cell purity and which criteria were used to define cells as olfactory ensheathing cells.Finally,we analyzed the correlation between cell purity and transplantation outcomes.We found that olfactory bulb-derived olfactory ensheathing cell preparations are typically purer than mucosa-derived preparations.We concluded that there is an association between high olfactory ensheathing cell purity and favourable outcomes,but the lack of olfactory ensheathing cell-specific markers severely hampers the field. | Ronak Reshamwala Megha Shah Lucy Belt Jenny A.K.Ekberg James A.St John | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,11: | 3 |

| 12 | Phytopharmacological evaluation and anti-asthmatic activity of Ficus religiosa leaves显示文摘Objective:To discuss phytopharmacological potential and anti-asthmatic activity of Ficus religiosa(F.religiosa)(L.).Methods:Fresh leaves of F.religiosa were obtained from Vastrapur Lake,Ahmedabad,and dried to obtain powder.Histamine and acetylcholine were used to guinea pigs to establish bronchospasm model.In in vivo study,the aqueous extract of F.religiosa leaves (AEFR) at doses of 150 and 300 mg/ kg was administrated to guinea pigs,and the broncho-protective activity of AEFR was compared with aminophylline at 25 mg/kg.While in in vitro study,and 10 g/mL,20 g/mL,30 g/mL of AEFRL was administrated to guinea pigs,respectively, and mast cell stabilizing activity of AEFR was compared with ketotifen at 10 g/mL.Results: In the in-vivo model,pre-treatment with aminophylline(25 mg/kg,ip.) could significantly delay the onset of histamine induced pre-convulsive dyspnea,compared with vehicle control. Administration of AEFRL(150 and 300 mg/kg,ip.) also produced significant effect on latency to develop histamine & acetylcholine induced pre-convulsive dyspnea.In the mast cell stabilizing model,AEFRL at 10,20 and 30μg/mL could significantly increase the number of intact cells. | 14 | Role of T cell death in maintaining immune tolerance during persistent viral hepatitis显示文摘Virus-specific T cells play an important role in the resolution of hepatic infection. However, during chronic hepatitis infection these cells lack their effector functions and fail to control the virus. Hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus have developed several mechanisms to generate immune tolerance. One of these strategies is the depletion of virus-specific T cells by apoptosis. The immunotolerogenic liver has unique property to retain and activate na ve T cell to avoid the over reactivation of immune response against antigens which is exploited by hepatotropic viruses to persist. The deletion of the virus-specific T cells occurs by intrinsic (passive) apoptotic mechanism. The pro-apoptotic molecule Bcl-2 interacting mediator (Bim) has attracted increasing attention as a pivotal involvement in apoptosis, as a regulator of tissue homeostasis and an enhancer for the viral persistence. Indeed, experiments in the mid-20th century gave rise to the concept of the brain as a site of immune privilege. Originally, the immune privilege of the brain was thought to be absolute, attributed by a physical blood-brain barrier (BBB) protecting the CNS from the entry of pathogens and circulating immune cells.
