1Targeting ferroptosis suppresses osteocyte glucolipotoxicity and alleviates diabetic osteoporosis显示文摘Diabetic osteoporosis(DOP) is the leading complication continuously threatening the bone health of patients with diabetes. A key pathogenic factor in DOP is loss of osteocyte viability. However, the mechanism of osteocyte death remains unclear. Here, we identified ferroptosis, which is iron-dependent programmed cell death, as a critical mechanism of osteocyte death in murine models of DOP. The diabetic microenvironment significantly enhanced osteocyte ferroptosis in vitro, as shown by the substantial lipid peroxidation, iron overload, and aberrant activation of the ferroptosis pathway. RNA sequencing showed that heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) expression was notably upregulated in ferroptotic osteocytes. Further findings revealed that HO-1 was essential for osteocyte ferroptosis in DOP and that its promoter activity was controlled by the interaction between the upstream NRF2 and c-JUN transcription factors. Targeting ferroptosis or HO-1 efficiently rescued osteocyte death in DOP by disrupting the vicious cycle between lipid peroxidation and HO-1 activation, eventually ameliorating trabecular deterioration. 2Cytocompatibility with osteogenic cells and enhanced in vivo anti-infection potential of quaternized chitosan-loaded titania nanotubes显示文摘Infection is one of the major causes of failure of orthopedic implants. Our previous study demonstrated that nanotube modification of the implant surface, together with nanotubes loaded with quaternized chitosan(hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan, HACC), could effectively inhibit bacterial adherence and biofilm formation in vitro. Therefore, the aim of this study was to further investigate the in vitro cytocompatibility with osteogenic cells and the in vivo anti-infection activity of titanium implants with HACC-loaded nanotubes(NT-H). The titanium implant(Ti), nanotubes without polymer loading(NT), and nanotubes loaded with chitosan(NT-C) were fabricated and served as controls. Firstly, we evaluated the cytocompatibility of these specimens with human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells in vitro.The observation of cell attachment, proliferation, spreading, and viability in vitro showed that NT-H has improved osteogenic activity compared with Ti and NT-C. A prophylaxis rat model with implantation in the femoral medullary cavity and inoculation with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was established and evaluated by radiographical, microbiological, and histopathological assessments. Our in vivo study demonstrated that NT-H coatings exhibited significant anti-infection capability compared with the Ti and NT-C groups. 3Wind Wave Characteristics and Engineering Environment of the South China Sea显示文摘Wave simulation was conducted for the period 1976 to 2005 in the South China Sea(SCS) using the wave model, WAVEWATCH-III. Wave characteristics and engineering environment were studied in the region. The wind input data are from the objective reanalysis wind datasets, which assimilate meteorological data from several sources. Comparisons of significant wave heights between simulation and TOPEX/Poseidon altimeter and buoy data show a good agreement in general. By statistical analysis, the wave characteristics, such as significant wave heights, dominant wave directions, and their seasonal variations, were discussed. The largest significant wave heights are found in winter and the smallest in spring. The annual mean dominant wave direction is northeast(NE) along the southwest(SW)-NE axis, east northeast in the northwest(NW) part of SCS, and north northeast in the southeast(SE) part of SCS. The joint distributions of wave heights and wave periods(directions) were studied. The results show a single peak pattern for joint significant wave heights and periods, and a double peak pattern for joint significant wave heights and mean directions. Furthermore, the main wave extreme parameters and directional extreme values, particularly for the 100-year return period, were also investigated. The main extreme values of significant wave heights are larger in the northern part of SCS than in the southern part, with the maximum value occurring to the southeast of Hainan Island. 4Highly sensitive solar-blind deep ultraviolet photodetector based on graphene/PtSe_(2)/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)2D/3D Schottky junction with ultrafast speed显示文摘There is an emerging need for high-sensitivity solar-blind deep ultraviolet(DUV)photodetectors with an ultra-fast response speed.Although nanoscale devices based on Ga_(2)O_(3)nanostructures have been developed,their practical applications are greatly limited by their slow response speed as well as low specific detectivity.Here,the successful fabrication of two-/three-dimensional(2D/3D)graphene(Gr)/PtSe2/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)Schottky junction devices for high-sensitivity solar-blind DUV photodetectors is demonstrated.Benefitting from the high-quality 2D/3D Schottky junction,the vertically stacked structure,and the superior-quality transparent graphene electrode for effective carrier collection,the photodetector is highly sensitive to DUV light illumination and achieves a high responsivity of 76.2 mA/W,a large on/off current ratio of~105,along with an ultra-high ultraviolet(UV)/visible rejection ratio of 1.8×104.More importantly,it has an ultra-fast response time of 12µs and a remarkable specific detectivity of~1013 Jones.Finally,an excellent DUV imaging capability has been identified based on the Gr/PtSe2/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)Schottky junction photodetector,demonstrating its great potential application in DUV imaging systems.Di Wu Zhihui Zhao Wei Lu Lukas Rogée Longhui Zeng Pei Lin Zhifeng Shi Yongtao Tian Xinjian Li Yuen Hong Tsang 2021Nano Research2021,14,6:4
5Characterization of oil component and solid particle of oily sludge treated by surfactant-assisted ultrasonication显示文摘The ultrasonic technique has been demonstrated to be a promising method for the disposal of hazardous oily sludge.However,the separation of oil from the surfaces of the solid particles is still difficult due to the strong interaction between the oil and solid particle.In this study,three types of surfactants were used to assist the ultrasonic treatment of oily sludge.The oil component,surface composition,and structure of the solid particle were determined.The results showed that different surfactants had different oil removal abilities.In the three surfactant-assisted sonication systems,the oil removal rate increased during the starting reaction period and then decreased with longer sonication time.The results of four components analysis suggested that surfactant easy to be ionized in water posed a better removal effect on resins,while the amphiphilic surfactant preferred saturates,aromatics and asphaltenes.The morphology analysis indicated that particle size was shattered into smaller ones by the ultrasonic process,and the wettability of the solid surface also changed during this treatment.The characterization of the oil component and solid particle during surfactant-assisted ultrasonication treatment will help to better understand the separation of oil from oily sludge and improve the oil recovery efficiency from oily sludge.Zuhong Lin Fushuai Xu Lili Wang Liyang Hu Lingfu Zhu Jie Tan Zhifeng Li Tingting Zhang 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,6:2
6Preparation of Au NPs/ZnO NTs Hybrid Array and Its Photo Catalytic Performance for MO显示文摘X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were employed to investigate the microstructure and morphology of Au NPs/ZnO NTs, and their photo-catalytic capability was assessed to a nicety. The results demonstrated that the diameter and the wall thickness of ZnO nanotube were about 200 and 50 nm, respectively. The diameter of Au nanoparticle was about 30 nm. The characterization on the photo-catalytic capability of the Au-ZnO nanotube hybrid indicated that the degradation of methyl orange was 80% within 4 h. 7Biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in sediments from the Daliao River watershed, China显示文摘The Daliao River, as an important water system in Northeast China, was reported to be heavily polluted by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Aerobic biodegradations of four selected PAHs (naphthalene, phenanthrene, uorene and anthracene) alone or in their mixture in river sediments from the Daliao River water systems were studied in microcosm systems. Eects of additional carbon source, inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus, temperature variation on PAHs degradation were also investigated. Results showed that the degradation of phenanthrene in water alone system was faster than that in water-sediment combined system. Degradation of phenanthrene in sediment was enhanced by adding yeast extract and ammonium, but retarded by adding sodium acetate and not significantly inuenced by adding phosphate. Although PAHs could also be biodegraded in sediment under low temperature (5°C), much lower degradation rate was observed. Sediments from the three main streams of the Daliao River water system (the Hun River, the Taizi River and the Daliao River) demonstrated dierent degradation capacities and patterns to four PAHs. Average removal rates (15 or 19 d) of naphthalene, phenanthrene, uorene and anthracene by sediment were in the range of 0.062-0.087, 0.005-0.066, 0.008- 0.016 and 0-0.059 mg/(L·d), respectively. As a result, naphthalene was most easily degraded compound, anthracene was the hardest one. 9On-chip solid phase extraction coupled with electrophoresis using modified magnetic microspheres as stationary phase显示文摘A poly(dimethylsiloxane)(PDMS)/glass hybrid microchip for on-line solid phase extraction (SPE) and electrophoresis separation has been developed and evaluated. The SPE microchannel was crossed to the electrophoresis microchannel. All the microfluidic channels were etched on the glass substrate. The magnetic microspheres were coated with hydroxyl-terminated poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS-OH) serving as extraction phase,which could be conveniently immobilized into the sample pretreatment channel by magnetic field. The PDMS-OH microspheres were mobilized into and out of the pretreatment channel by injection flow. The 0.1 μmol/L solution of fluorescence isothiocyanate (FITC)-labeled phenylalanine (Phe) was electrically injected into the SPE channel and extracted onto the PDMS-OH microspheres bed. The enriched FITC-labeled Phe was electrically eluted by 9 mmol/L sodium acetate containing 10% acetonitrile and electrically driven into the electrophoresis channel and then separated. The preconcentration factor could reach 87.5 after sufficient extraction. A linear preconcentration curve was obtained with the initial FITC-labeled Phe concentration ranging from 6 nmol/L to 300 nmol/L (R2=0.9922) with 200 s loading time.
