1Linking atmospheric pollution to cryospheric change in the Third Pole region: current progress and future prospects显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings are known as the Third Pole(TP). This region is noted for its high rates of glacier melt and the associated hydrological shifts that affect water supplies in Asia. Atmospheric pollutants contribute to climatic and cryospheric changes through their effects on solar radiation and the albedos of snow and ice surfaces; moreover, the behavior and fates within the cryosphere and environmental impacts of environmental pollutants are topics of increasing concern. In this review, we introduce a coordinated monitoring and research framework and network to link atmospheric pollution and cryospheric changes(APCC) within the TP region. We then provide an up-to-date summary of progress and achievements related to the APCC research framework, including aspects of atmospheric pollution’s composition and concentration, spatial and temporal variations, trans-boundary transport pathways and mechanisms, and effects on the warming of atmosphere and changing in Indian monsoon, as well as melting of glacier and snow cover. We highlight that exogenous air pollutants can enter into the TP’s environments and cause great impacts on regional climatic and environmental changes. At last, we propose future research priorities and map out an extended program at the global scale. 4Antibacterial effects of platelet-rich fibrin produced by horizontal centrifugation显示文摘Platelet-rich fibrin(PRF)has been widely used owing to its ability to stimulate tissue regeneration.To date,few studies have described the antibacterial properties of PRF.Previously,PRF prepared by horizontal centrifugation(H-PRF)was shown to contain more immune cells than leukocyte-and platelet-rich fibrin(L-PRF).This study aimed to compare the antimicrobial effects of PRFs against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in vitro and to determine whether the antibacterial effects correlated with the number of immune cells.Blood samples were obtained from eight healthy donors to prepare L-PRF and H-PRF.The sizes and weights of L-PRF and H-PRF were first evaluated,and their antibacterial effects against S.aureus and E.coli were then tested in vitro using the inhibition ring and plate-counting test methods.Flow-cytometric analysis of the cell components of L-PRF and H-PRF was also performed.No significant differences in size or weight were observed between the L-PRF and H-PRF groups.The H-PRF group contained more leukocytes than the L-PRF group.While both PRFs had notable antimicrobial activity against S.aureus and E.coli,H-PRF demonstrated a significantly better antibacterial effect than L-PRF.Furthermore,the antimicrobial ability of the PRF solid was less efficient than that of wet PRF.In conclusion,H-PRF exhibited better antibacterial activity than L-PRF,which might have been attributed to having more immune cells.Mengge Feng Yulan Wang Peng Zhang Qin Zhao Shimin Yu Kailun Shen Richard J.Miron Yufeng Zhang 2020International Journal of Oral Science2020,12,4:12
5Dietary modulation of endogenous host defense peptide synthesis as an alternative approach to in-feed antibiotics显示文摘Traditionally, antibiotics are included in animal feed at subtherapeutic levels for growth promotion and disease prevention.However, recent links between in-feed antibiotics and a rise in antibiotic-resistant pathogens have led to a ban of all antibiotics in livestock production by the European Union in January 2006 and a removal of medically important antibiotics in animal feeds in the United States in January 2017.An urgent need arises for antibiotic alternatives capable of maintaining animal health and productivity without triggering antimicrobial resistance.Host defense peptides(HDP) are a critical component of the animal innate immune system with direct antimicrobial and immunomodulatory activities.While in-feed supplementation of recombinant or synthetic HDP appears to be effective in maintaining animal performance and alleviating clinical symptoms in the context of disease, dietary modulation of the synthesis of endogenous host defense peptides has emerged as a cost-effective,antibiotic-alternative approach to disease control and prevention.Several different classes of smallmolecule compounds have been found capable of promoting HDP synthesis.Among the most efficacious compounds are butyrate and vitamin D.Moreover, butyrate and vitamin D synergize with each other in enhancing HDP synthesis.This review will focus on the regulation of HDP synthesis by butyrate and vitamin D in humans, chickens, pigs, and cattle and argue for potential application of HDP-inducing compounds in antibiotic-free livestock production.Kelsy Robinson Xi Ma Yulan Liu Shiyan Qiao Yongqing Hou Guolong Zhang 2018Animal Nutrition2018,,2:9
6A method for estimating the contribution of evaporative vapor from Nam Co to local atmospheric vapor based on stable isotopes of water bodies显示文摘During the summer monsoon season,the moisture of precipitation events in southern and central regions of the Tibetan Plateau is mainly moisture from the Indian Ocean transported by the Indian monsoon and terrestrial vapor derived from the surface of the Tibetan Plateau.However,the respective contributions of these two types of moisture are not clear.From June to September,the excess deuterium values of precipitation and river water in the Nam Co basin are higher than those for the southern Tibetan Plateau.This reflects the mixing of evaporation from Nam Co and local atmospheric vapor.On the basis of theory for estimating the contribution of evaporative vapor from surface water bodies to atmospheric vapor and relative stable isotopes in water bodies (precipitation,river water,atmospheric moisture and lake water),this study preliminarily estimates that the average contribution of evaporation from the Lake Nam Co to local atmospheric vapor has varied from 28.4% to 31.1% during the summer monsoon season in recent years.XU YanWei KANG ShiChang ZHANG YuLan ZHANG YongJun 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,14:7
7Whole-genome sequencing provides insights into the genetic diversity and domestication of bitter gourd(Momordica spp.)显示文摘Bitter gourd(Momordica charantia)is a popular cultivated vegetable in Asian and African countries.To reveal the characteristics of the genomic structure,evolutionary trajectory,and genetic basis underlying the domestication of bitter gourd,we performed whole-genome sequencing of the cultivar Dali-11 and the wild small-fruited line TR and resequencing of 187 bitter gourd germplasms from 16 countries.The major gene clusters(Bi clusters)for the biosynthesis of cucurbitane triterpenoids,which confer a bitter taste,are highly conserved in cucumber,melon,and watermelon.Comparative analysis among cucurbit genomes revealed that the Bi cluster involved in cucurbitane triterpenoid biosynthesis is absent in bitter gourd.Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the TR group,including 21 bitter gourd germplasms,may belong to a new species or subspecies independent from M.charantia.Furthermore,we found that the remaining 166 M.charantia germplasms are geographically differentiated,and we identified 710,412,and 290 candidate domestication genes in the South Asia,Southeast Asia,and China populations,respectively.This study provides new insights into bitter gourd genetic diversity and domestication and will facilitate the future genomics-enabled improvement of bitter gourd.Junjie Cui Yan Yang Shaobo Luo Le Wang Rukui Huang Qingfang Wen Xiaoxia Han Nansheng Miao Jiaowen Cheng Ziji Liu Changyuan Zhang Chengcheng Feng Haisheng Zhu Jianwen Su Xinjian Wan Fang Hu Yu Niu Xiaoming Zheng Yulan Yang Dai Shan Zhensheng Dong Weiming He Narinder P.S.Dhillon Kailin Hu 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:7

9Germination and early seedling growth of Pinus densata Mast.provenances显示文摘We studied seed germination and early seedling growth of Pinus densata to explore the range of variability within the species and to inform afforestation practices.Phenotypes were evaluated at a forest tree nursery under conditions that support Pinus yunnanensis, one of the presumed parental species of P. densata. Seeds were collected from 20 open-pollinated trees within each of eight autochthonous populations representing the natural distribution of P. densata in China to assess variation in germination traits and early seedling growth, and to examine the relationships among these traits. Results showed that seeds from all populations germinated and seedlings established successfully. There were significant differences among populations in 13 of 14 traits evaluated. Seed germination and early seedling growth were strongly related to seed size and seed weight. Bigger seeds germinated earlier and faster than small seeds, and seedling size was positively correlated with seed size. Some germination traits were strongly and significantly correlated with climatic variables associated with the provenance of the studied populations. Based on these observations, we conclude there were large, significant, and biologically important differences among P. densata populations in seed germination and seedling growth traits. 10Carbothermic reduction of vanadium titanomagnetite with the assistance of sodium carbonate显示文摘The carbothermic reduction of vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate(VTC)with the assistance of Na_(2)CO_(3)was conducted in an argon atmosphere between 1073 and 1473 K.X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the phase transformations during the reaction.By investigating the reaction between VTC and Na_(2)CO_(3),it was concluded that molten Na_(2)CO_(3)broke the structure of titanomagnetite by combining with the acidic oxides(Fe_(2)O_(3),TiO_(2),Al_(2)O_(3),and SiO_(2))to form a Na-rich melt and release FeO and MgO.Therefore,Na_(2)CO_(3)accelerated the reduction rate.In addition,adding Na_(2)CO_(3)also benefited the agglomeration of iron particles and the slag–metal separation by decreasing the viscosity of the slag.Thus,Na_(2)CO_(3)assisted carbothermic reduction is a promising method for treating VTC at low temperatures.Luming Chen Yulan Zhen Guohua Zhang Desheng Chen Lina Wang Hongxin Zhao Fancheng Meng Tao Qi 2022International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,2:5
11Light-absorbing impurities on Keqikaer Glacier in western Tien Shan: concentrations and potential impact on albedo reduction显示文摘Light-absorbing impurities on glaciers are important factors that influence glacial surface albedo and accelerate glacier melt. In this study, the quantity of light-absorbing impurities on Keqikaer Glacier in western Tien Shan, Central Asia, was measured. We found that the average concentrations of black carbon was 2,180 ng/g, with a range from 250 ng/g to more than 10,000 ng/g. The average concentrations of organic carbon and mineral dust were 1,738 ng/g and 194 μg/g, respectively. Based on simulations performed with the Snow Ice Aerosol Radiative model simulations, black carbon and dust are responsible for approximately 64% and 9%, respectively, of the albedo reduction, and are associated with instantaneous radiative forcing of 323.18 W/m2(ranging from 142.16 to 619.25 W/m2) and 24.05 W/m2(ranging from 0.15 to69.77 W/m2), respectively. For different scenarios, the albedo and radiative forcing effect of black carbon is considerably greater than that of dust. The estimated radiative forcing at Keqikaer Glacier is higher than most similar values estimated by previous studies on the Tibetan Plateau, perhaps as a result of black carbon enrichment by melt scavenging. Light-absorbing impurities deposited on Keqikaer Glacier appear to mainly originate from central Asia, Siberia, western China(including the Taklimakan Desert) and parts of South Asia in summer, and from the Middle East and Central Asia in winter.A footprint analysis indicates that a large fraction(>60%) of the black carbon contributions on Keqikaer Glacier comes from anthropogenic sources. 12InStereo2K:a large real dataset for stereo matching in indoor scenes显示文摘Deep neural networks have shown great success in stereo matching in recent years.On the KITTI datasets,most top performing methods are based on neural networks.However,on the Middlebury datasets,these methods usually do not perform well.The KITTI datasets are collected in outdoor scenes while the Middlebury datasets are collected in indoor scenes.It is commonly believed that the community still lacks a large labelled dataset for stereo matching in indoor scenes.In this paper,we introduce a new stereo dataset called InS tereo2K.It contains 2050 pairs of stereo images with highly accurate groundtruth disparity maps,including 2000 pairs for training and 50 pairs for test.Experimental results show that our dataset can significantly improve the performance of several latest networks(including StereoNet and PSMNet)on the Middlebury 2014 dataset.The large scale,high accuracy and rich diversity of the proposed InS tereo2K dataset provide new opportunities to researchers in the area of stereo matching and beyond.It also takes end-to-end stereo matching methods a step towards practical applications.Wei BAO Wei WANG Yuhua XU Yulan GUO Siyu HONG Xiaohu ZHANG 2020Science China(Information Sciences)2020,63,11:4
13Effects of Shuyusan on monoamine neurotransmitters expression in a rat model of chronic stress-induced depression显示文摘Shuyusan, a traditional Chinese medicine, was shown to improve depression symptoms and behavioral scores, as well as increase 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, and 5-hydroxytryptophan levels, in a rat model of chronic stress-induced depression. However, dopamine, noradrenalin, and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol expressions remained unchanged following Shuyusan treatment. Compared with the model group, the number of 5-HT-positive neurons in layers 4-5 of the frontal cortex, as well as hippocampal CA1 and CA3 regions, significantly increased following Shuyusan treatment. 14SARS-CoV-2 triggers inflammatory responses and cell death through caspase-8 activation显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection can lead to respiratory illness and multi-organ failure in critically ill patients.Although the virus-induced lung damage and inflammatory cytokine storm are believed to be directly associated with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)clinical manifestations,the underlying mechanisms of virus-triggered inflammatory responses are currently unknown.Here we report that SARS-CoV-2 infection activates caspase-8 to trigger cell apoptosis and inflammatory cytokine processing in the lung epithelial cells.The processed inflammatory cytokines are released through the virus-induced necroptosis pathway.Virus-induced apoptosis,necroptosis,and inflammation activation were also observed in the lung sections of SARS-CoV-2-infected HFH4-hACE2 transgenic mouse model,a valid model for studying SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis.Furthermore,analysis of the postmortem lung sections of fatal COVID-19 patients revealed not only apoptosis and necroptosis but also massive inflammatory cell infiltration,necrotic cell debris,and pulmonary interstitial fibrosis,typical of immune pathogenesis in the lung.The SARS-CoV-2 infection triggered a dual mode of cell death pathways and caspase-8-dependent inflammatory responses may lead to the lung damage in the COVID-19 patients.These discoveries might assist the development of therapeutic strategies to treat COVID-19.Shufen Li Yulan Zhang Zhenqiong Guan Huiling Li Meidi Ye Xi Chen Jun Shen Yiwu Zhou Zheng-Li Shi Peng Zhou Ke Peng 2020Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1:3
15First experimental constraints on WIMP couplings in the effective field theory framework from CDEX显示文摘We present weakly interacting massive particles(WIMPs) search results performed using two approaches of effective field theory from the China Dark Matter Experiment(CDEX), based on the data from both CDEX-1B and CDEX-10 stages. In the nonrelativistic effective field theory approach, both time-integrated and annual modulation analyses were used to set new limits for the coupling of WIMP-nucleon effective operators at 90% confidence level(C.L.) and improve over the current bounds in the low mχregion. In the chiral effective field theory approach, data from CDEX-10 were used to set an upper limit on WIMP-pion coupling at 90% C.L. 16Preparation,characterization and biological properties of a novel bone block composed of platelet rich fibrin and a deproteinized bovine bone mineral显示文摘Alveolar bone defects caused by tooth loss often lead to challenges in implant dentistry,with a need for development of optimal bone biomaterials to predictably rebuild these tissues.To address this problem,we fabricated a novel bone block using platelet-rich fibrin(PRF)and Deproteinized Bovine Bone Mineral(DBBM),and characterized their mechanical and biological properties.The bone block was prepared by mixing DBBM,Liquid-PRF,and Solid-PRF fragments in various combinations as follows:(1)BLOCK-1 made with Solid-PRF fragments+DBBM,(2)BLOCK-2 made with Liquid-PRF+DBBM,(3)BLOCK-3 made with Solid-PRF fragments+Liquid-PRF+DBBM.The time for solidification and the degradation properties were subsequently recorded.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and tensile tests were carried out to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties of each block.The bioactivity of the three groups towards osteoblast differentiation was also evaluated by culturing cells with the conditioned medium from each of the three groups including cell proliferation assay,cell migration assay,alkaline phosphatase(ALP)staining,and alizarin red staining(ARS),as well as by real-time PCR for genes encoding runt-related transcription factor 2(RUNX2),ALP,collagen type I alphal(COLIv41)and osteocalcin(OCN).BLOCK-3 made with Solid-PRF fragments+Liquid-PRF+DBBM had by far the fastest solidification period(over a 10-fold increase)as well as the most resistance to degradation.SEM and tensile tests also revealed that the mechanical properties of BLOCK-3 were superior in strength when compared to all other groups and further induced the highest osteoblast migration and osteogenic differentiation confirmed by ALP,ARS and real-time PCR.PRF bone blocks made through the combination of Solid-PRF fragments+Liquid-PRF+DBBM had the greatest mechanical and biological properties when compared to either used alone.Future clinical studies are warranted to further support the clinical application of PRF bone blocks in bone regeneration procedures.Mengge Feng Yulan Wang Yan Wei Xiaoxin Zhang Leyi Xiao Zijjian Gong Masako Fujioka-Kobayashi Anton Sculean Richard J Miron Scott Froum Yufeng Zhang 2022Fundamental Research2022,2,2:3
17First results on ^(76)Ge neutrinoless double beta decay from CDEX-1 experiment显示文摘We report the first results on ^(76)Ge neutrinoless double beta decay from stage one of the China dark-matter experiment(CDEX).A p-type point-contact high-purity germanium detector with a mass of 994 g has been installed to detect neutrinoless double beta decay events, as well as to directly detect dark matter particles. An exposure of 304 kg d has been analyzed over a wide spectral band from 500 keV to 3 MeV. The average event rate obtained was about 0.012 counts per keV per kg per day over the 2.039 MeV energy range. The half-life of ^(76)Ge neutrinoless double beta decay derived based on this result is T^(0ν)1/2>6.4×10^(22) yr(90% C.L.). 18Carbonaceous matter in glacier at the headwaters of the Yangtze River:Concentration,sources and fractionation during the melting process显示文摘Carbonaceous matter has an important impact on glacial retreat in the Tibetan Plateau,further affecting the water resource supply.However,the related studies on carbonaceous matter are still scarce in Geladaindong(GLDD)region,the source of the Yangtze River.Therefore,the concentration,source and variations of carbonaceous matter at Ganglongjiama(GLJM)glacier in GLDD region were investigated during the melting period in 2017,which could deepen our understanding on carbonaceous matter contribution to glacier melting.The results showed that dissolved organic carbon(DOC)concentration of snowpit samples(283±200μg/L)was much lower than that of precipitation samples(624±361μg/L),indicating that large parts of DOC could be rapidly leached from the snowpit during the melting process.In contrast,refractory black carbon(rBC)concentration measured by Single Particle Soot Photometer of snowpit samples(4.27±3.15μg/L)was much higher than that of precipitation samples(0.97±0.49μg/L).Similarly,DOC with high mass absorption cross-section measured at 365 nm value was also likely to enrich in snowpit during the melting process.In addition,it was found that both r BC and DOC with high light-absorbing ability began to leach from the snowpit when melting process became stronger.Therefore,rBC and DOC with high light-absorbing ability exhibited similar behavior during the melting process.Based on relationship among DOC,rBC and K^+ in precipitation,the main source of carbonaceous matter in GLJM glacier was biomass burning during the study period.Zhaofu Hu Shichang Kang Xiaobo He Fangping Yan Yulan Zhang Pengfei Chen Xiaofei Li Shaopeng Gao Chaoliu Li 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,1:3
19Characteristics of carbonaceous aerosols analyzed using a multiwavelength thermal/optical carbon analyzer: A case study in Lanzhou City显示文摘Characteristics of atmospheric carbonaceous aerosols in Lanzhou City from December 2014 to November 2015 are analyzed using a multiwavelength thermal/optical carbon analyzer. Results reveal that average concentrations of black carbon (BC) and organic carbon in atmospheric aerosols at Lanzhou are 6.7 and 25.4 μg m^(-3), respectively, showing obvious seasonality (higher in winter and lower in summer). This is consistent with findings in cities of northern China. Primary organic aerosols and secondary organic aerosols respectively account for approximately 60% and 17% of carbonaceous aerosols. No significant seasonality is found for secondary organic carbon, indicating that its potential sources do not vary significantly throughout the study period. The mass absorption cross-section (MAC_(632nm)) of BC is 7.1 m^2g^(-1), slightly higher than that of immediately emitted BC. MAC values of BC at different wavelengths vary drastically; they are higher for ultraviolet and visible light (8.5–10.2 m^2g^(-1)) than for near-infrared light (4.9–5.7 m^2g^(-1)). The aerosol absorption optical depth generally declines from the near-infrared to the near-ultraviolet region. The values are higher in winter than in summer, thus showing there are different contributions of BC deposition in different seasons. Brown carbon (BrC) has an ?ngstr?m absorption exponent (AAE) value of approximately 2.75, which is similar to the AAE value of BrC generated by diesel combustion (2.3). The contribution of BrC to light absorption is as much as 34% at a wavelength of 635 nm. This study demonstrates that the multiwavelength thermal/optical carbon analyzer can quantify absorption properties of BrC in atmospheric aerosols. 20A Study of the Development of Agricultural Mechanization in Kunming显示文摘Kunming City has entered the rapid development stage of urbanization. In the course of building the urban modern agriculture, the agricultural mechanization of Kunming City is being faced with excellent development opportunity. In this paper, the author scientifically analyzed current development situations of agricultural mechanization in Kunming City and explored existing problems in the course of development. On the basis of analysis, the author put forward recommendations, including increasing scientific research input for agricultural machinery, supporting agricultural machinery enterprises, promoting scientific and technical innovation, taking characteristic industries (such as flowers and vegetables) as pillar industry, speeding up development of modern facility agriculture, and upgrading primary processing of agricultural products.
