| 1 | External fixation is more suitable for intra-articular fractures of the distal radius in elderly patients显示文摘The purpose of this study was to compare the functional outcomes,psychological impact,and complication rates associated with external fixation and volar or dorsal plating in relation to the functional parameters following treatment of intra-articular fractures of the distal radius(IFDR) in patients older than 65 years.We hypothesized that using volar or dorsal plating would improve functional outcomes,but that it would be associated with more complications and equivalent functional outcomes when compared with the external fixation group.A total of 123 consecutive patients suffering from IFDR were recruited into the study.The patients were measured for clinical,radiological,and psychosocial functioning outcomes and were followed up after 1 week and 3,6 and 12 months.After 3 months,the plating group had better pronation(P=0.001),supination,(P=0.047) and extension(P=0.043) scores.These differences were somewhat attenuated by6 months and disappeared at 1 year.The plating group had a greater occurrence of wound infection(P=0.043),tendonitis,(P=0.024) and additional surgery compared with the external fixation group.The only TNO-AZL Adult Quality of Life scores in the plating group that were lower than those in the external fixation group were in the 'gross motor' category(walking upstairs,bending over,walking 500 yards; P=0.023).Internal fixation was more advantageous than external fixation in the early rehabilitation period; after 1 year the outcomes were similar.The plating group showed significantly higher levels of wound infection and tendonitis and had a greater need for additional surgeries. | Chuang Ma Qiang Deng Hongwei Pu Xinchun Cheng Yuhua Kan Jing Yang Aihemaitijiang Yusufu Li Cao | 2016 | Bone Research2016,4,1: | 7 |
| 2 | TGF-β regulation of microRNA miR-497-5p and ocular lens epithelial cell mesenchymal transition显示文摘The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of a human lens microRNA(miR-497-5p) in regulating epithelialmesenchymal transition(EMT) under the control of transforming growth factor beta(TGF-β). A microRNA array was used to evaluate the microRNA profiles of untreated and TGF-β-treated human lens epithelial cells in culture. This showed that TGF-βtreatment led to the upregulation of 96 microRNAs and downregulation of 39 microRNAs. Thirteen microRNAs were predicted to be involved in the pathogenesis of posterior capsule opacification(PCO). Meanwhile, overexpression of miR-497-5p suppressed cell proliferation and EMT 48 h post-transfection, and inhibition of miR-497-5p accelerated cell proliferation and EMT.Treatment with TGF-β inhibited the expression of miR-497-5p, but not cell proliferation. miR-497-5p was also found to regulate the level of CCNE1 and FGF7, which are reported to be actively involved in EMT. CCNE1 and FGF7 were bona fide targets of miR-497-5p. | 3 | Effect of Eu^(3+) doping on luminescence properties of a KAlSiO_(4):Sm^(3+) phosphor显示文摘This study presents the photoluminescence characteristic analysis of a series of red phosphors of KAlSiO_(4):1.5 mol%Sm^(3+),x mol%Eu^(3+)(x=2,3,4,5,6,7)prepared via high-temperature solid-phase reaction.The results show that the X-ray diffraction(XRD)refinement results are reliable.The unit cell parameters and volume gradually decrease as the Eu^(3+) concentration increases,resulting in a grain size reduction of 10.22%.When x=6,the emission peaks of Sm^(3+) at 564,601,and 651 nm disappear completely,and the corresponding full width at half maximum becomes 0.At 610 nm,the emission peak intensity of Eu^(3+) is increased by a factor of 4.8.The resonant non-radiative energy transfer effect is greater than the co-excitation effect.A maximum energy transfer efficiency of 97.8%is achieved.The integral area at 610 nm is as high as 85%.The color purity of the phosphor is as high as 92.97%,and the internal quantum yield gradually changes from 32%to 51%.Ultimately,these results confirm that the silicate phosphor is suitable for the red component in the three primary color phosphors of white light-emitting diodes. | Reziwanguli Yantake Aierken Sidike Taximaiti Yusufu | 2022 | Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,3: | 2 |

| 11 | Arduino-based low-cost electrical load tracking system with a long-range mesh network显示文摘A system that combines the advantage of the long-range(LoRa)communication method and the structural characteristics of a mesh network for an LoRa mesh network-based wireless electrical load tracking system is proposed.The system demonstrates considerable potential in reducing data loss due to environmental factors in farfield wireless energy monitoring.The proposed system can automatically control the function of each node by confirming the data source and eventually adjust the system structure according to real-time monitoring data without manual intervention.To further improve the sustainability of the system in outdoor environments,a standby equipment is designed to automatically ensure the normal operation of the system when the hardware of the base station fails.Our system is based on the Arduino board,which lowers the production cost and provides a simple manufacturing process.After conducting a long-term monitoring of a near-field smart manufacturing process in South Korea and the far-field energy consumption of rural households in Tanzania,we have proven that the system can be implemented in most regions,neither confined to a specific geographic location nor limited by the development of local infrastructure.This system comprises a smart framework that improves the quality of energy monitoring.Finally,the proposed big-data-technology-based power supply policy offers a new approach for prolonging the power supply time of off-grid power plants,thereby providing a guideline for more rural areas with limited power sources to utilize uninterrupted electricity. | Xin-Lin Wang Bora Ha Frank Andrew Manongi Woo-Kyun Jung Yusufu Abeid Chande Jande Sung-Hoon Ahn | 2021 | Advances in Manufacturing2021,9,1: | 1 |

| 13 | Design, methodology, and preliminary results of the follow-up of a population-based cohort study in rural area of northern China:Handan Eye Study显示文摘Background:Handan Eye Study (HES),a large population-based cohort study in rural area of northern China,was one of the few studies focusing on the major eye diseases of rural Chinese population.The aim of this study was to introduce the design,methodology and to assess the data quality of the follow-up phase of HES.Methods:All participants were recruited in Yongnian county of Handan city between 2012 and 2013.Main outcomes were measured by visual quality scales and ocular examinations.We performed the Chi-square test to make comparison of categorical data among groups,One-way analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to make comparison of continuous data among groups,a post-hoc test was done to make further pairwise comparison.Inter-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Kappa coefficients were used to evaluate the consistency between different operators.Logistic regression was used to explore the influence factors of death,odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to estimate the effect size of each influence factor.Results:The follow-up rate was 85.3%.Subjects were classified into three groups:the follow-up group (n =5394),the loss to follow-up group (n =929),and the dead group (n =507),comparison of their baseline information was done.Compared with the other two groups,age of the dead group (66.52 ± 10.31 years) was the oldest (Z =651.293,P < 0.001),male proportion was the highest (59.0 %)(x2 =42.351,P < 0.001),only 65.9 % of the dead finished middle school education (Z =205.354,P < 0.001).The marriage percentage,body mass index (BMI),best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA),and intra-ocular pressure of the dead group was the lowest either.Spherical equivalent error (SER) of the dead group was the highest.Besides,history of smoking,hypertension,diabetes,and heart disease were more common in the dead group.Multivariate analysis showed that age (OR =1.901,95% CI:1.074-1.108),gender (OR =0.317,95% CI:0.224-0.448),and BCVA (OR =0.282,95% CI:0.158-0.503) were associated with death.While between the follow-up group and the loss to follow-up group,there was only difference on age,gender,BMI,systolic blood pressure and SER.The Cronbach coefficients of all scales used in the follow-up were ≥0.63 and the cumulative variances were ≥0.61,indicating good reliability and validity.The ICCs and Kappa coefficients between different operators were ≥0.69.Conclusions:HES has a high follow-up rate and a low risk of loss to follow-up bias.Age,gender,and BCVA are influence factors of death.Specifically,male subjects are at a higher risk of death than female,age is a risk factor of death while BCVA is a protective factor for death. | Kai Cao Jie Hao Ye Zhang Ai-Lian Hu Xiao-Hui Yang Si-Zhen Li Bing-Song Wang Qing Zhang Jian-Ping Hu Cai-Xia Lin Mayinuer Yusufu Ning-Li Wang 无 | 2019 | Chinese Medical Journal2019,,18: | 1 |

| 16 | Application of custom anatomy-based nerve conduits on rabbit sciatic nerve defects: in vitro and in vivo evaluations显示文摘The intermingling of regenerated nerve fibers inside nerve grafts is the main reason for mismatched nerve fibers. This is one of the key factors affecting limb function recovery after nerve injury. Previous research has shown that the accuracy of axon regeneration can be improved by a bionic structural implant. To this aim, iodine and freeze-drying high-resolution micro-computed tomography was performed to visualize the 3D topography of the New Zealand rabbit sciatic nerve (25 mm). A series of 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-custom anatomy-based nerve conduits (CANCs) were fabricated based on the anatomical structure of the nerve fascicle. The match index, luminal surface, and mechanical properties of CANCs were evaluated before implanting in a 10-mm gap of the sciatic nerve. Recovery was evaluated by histomorphometric analyses, electrophysiological study, gastrocnemius muscle weight recovery ratio, and behavioral assessments at 12 and 24 weeks postoperatively. The accuracy of nerve regeneration was determined by changes in fluorescence-labeled profile number during simultaneous retrograde tracing. Our results showed that the optimal preprocessing condition for high-resolution micro-computed tomography visualization was treatment of the sciatic nerve with 40% Lugol’s solution for 3 days followed by lyophilization for 2 days. In vitro experiments demonstrated that the match index was highest in the 3-CANC group, followed by the 2-, 1-, and 4-CANC groups. The luminal surface was lowest in the 1-CANC group. Mechanical properties (transverse compressive and bending properties) were higher in the 3- and 4-CANC groups than in the 1-CANC group. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the recovery (morphology of regenerated fibers, compound muscle action potential, gastrocnemius muscle weight recovery ratio, pain-related autotomy behaviors, and range of motion) in the 3-CANC group was superior to the other CANC groups, and achieved the same therapeutic effect as the autograft. The simultaneous retrograde tracing results showed that the percentages of double-labeled profiles of the 2-, 3-, and 4-CANC groups were comparatively lower than that of the 1-CANC group, which indicates that regenerated nerve fascicles were less intermingled in the 2-, 3-, and 4-CANC groups. These findings demonstrate that the visualization of the rabbit sciatic nerve can be achieved by iodine and freeze-drying high-resolution micro-computed tomography, and that this method can be used to design CANCs with different channels that are based on the anatomical structure of the nerve. Compared with the 1-CANC, 3-CANC had a higher match index and luminal surface, and improved the accuracy of nerve regeneration by limiting the intermingling of the regenerated fascicles. | 18 | Investigation of the effect of malaria and home-based oral chloroquine treatment on biochemical indices of P.falciparum malaria infection in children under 5 years in jos metropolis显示文摘Background:In Nigeria,malaria is a leading cause of hospital admission and death.The country accounts for highest malaria cases and deaths globally.About 25% of all malaria cases and deaths in the world occurs in Nigeria.In 2010,malaria was reported to account for 60% of all outpatient visits and responsible for 30% of all hospital admission of children under the age of five years leaving in Nigeria.Objective:The goal of this research work was to investigate the possible role of the state of protein nutrition,kidney and liver functions of the under 5 years children with P.falciparum malaria;the assessment of these biochemical parameters as possible indicator of P.falciparum infection in the studied subjects and the effect of home-based oral chloroquine treatment in these children leaving in Jos metropolis.Method:Total of 93 children within the age range of 1 to 59 months and leaving in Jos North,Central Nigeria were recruited for this cross-sectional study.Malaria parasite identification was done using microscopic examination of Leishman-stained thick and thin blood films while the complete blood count was carried out using Beckman Coulter Analyzer.Results:The serum albumin concentration of(37.63±0.82 g/L)obtained in the malaria-free children was higher than concentration of(34.07±1.90 g/L)obtained in the chloroquine treated children with malaria,but not different from those obtained in the untreated uncomplicated malaria(37.35±1.19 g/L)and untreated severe malaria(37.43±1.02 g/L)groups.The Serum globulin concentration of 35.09±1.95 g/L,obtained in the untreated simple malaria group was higher than 30.18±1.30 g/L in the control group,34.57±2.59 g/L in the untreated severe malaria group and chloroquine treated malaria with 30.71±2.38 g/L,respectively.Conclusion:This study suggests that the biochemical parameters of serum creatinine,serum albumin,total protein,and globulin,serum alkaline phosphatase,serum alanine aminotransferase and serum aspartate aminotransferase are not sensitive indicators of P.falciparum infection in studied children with malaria.It also demonstrated that involvement of liver and kidney or impairment of their functions could be ruled out in the pathogenesis of malaria in this group of children.These results further shows that there was no significant effect of first-line treatment with oral chloroquine on the studied biochemical parameters in the study population. | Olomu Segun Afolabi Samuel Yusufu Gazuwa Garba Ibrahim Hassan Okolo Selina Nnuaku | 2022 | Infectious Diseases Research2022,3,1: | 0 |

| 20 | Cholinergic dysfunction-induced insufficient activation of alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor drives the development of rheumatoid arthritis through promoting protein citrullination via the SP3/PAD4 pathway显示文摘Both cholinergic dysfunction and protein citrullination are the hallmarks of rheumatoid arthritis(RA),but the relationship between the two phenomena remains unclear.We explored whether and how cholinergic dysfunction accelerates protein citrullination and consequently drives the development of RA.Cholinergic function and protein citrullination levels in patients with RA and collageninduced arthritis(CIA)mice were collected.In both neuron-macrophage coculture system and CIA mice,the effect of cholinergic dysfunction on protein citrullination and expression of peptidylarginine deiminases(PADs)was assessed by immunofluorescence.The key transcription factors for PAD4 expression were predicted and validated.Cholinergic dysfunction in the patients with RA and CIA mice negatively correlated with the degree of protein citrullination in synovial tissues.The cholinergic or alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor(a7nAChR)deactivation and activation resulted in the promotion and reduction of protein citrullination in vitro and in vivo,respectively.Especially,the activation deficiency of a7nAChR induced the earlier onset and aggravation of CIA.Furthermore,deactivation of a7nAChR increased the expression of PAD4 and specificity protein-3(SP3)in vitro and in vivo.Our results suggest that cholinergic dysfunction-induced deficient a7nAChR activation,which induces the expression of SP3 and its downstream molecule PAD4,accelerating protein citrullination and the development of RA. | Changjun Lv Minghui Sun Yilei Guo Wenxin Xia Simiao Qiao Yu Tao Yulai Fang Qin Zhang Yanrong Zhu Yusufu Yalikun Yufeng Xia Zhifeng Wei Yue Dai | 2023 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,4: | 0 |
