| 1 | Exploring cyclic changes of the ocean carbon reservoir显示文摘A 5-Ma record from ODP Site 1143 has re-vealed the long-term cycles of 400—500 ka in the carbon isotope variations. The periodicity is correlatable all over the global ocean and hence indicative of low-frequency changes in the ocean carbon reservoir. As the same periodicity is also found in carbonate and eolian dust records in the tropical ocean, it may have been caused by such low-latitude proc-esses like monsoon. According to the Quaternary records from Site 1143 and elsewhere, major ice-sheet expansion and major transition in glacial cyclicity (such as the Mid-Brunhes Event and the Mid-Pleistocene Revolution ) were all pre-ceded by reorganization in the ocean carbon reservoir ex-pressed as an episode of carbon isotope maximum (d 13Cmax), implying the role of carbon cycling in modulating the glacial periodicity. The Quaternary glacial cycles, therefore, should no more be ascribed to the physical response to insolation changes at the Northern Hemisphere high latitudes alone; rather, they have been driven by the 揹ouble forcing? a combination of processes at both high and low latitudes, and of processes in both physical (ice-sheet) and biogeochemical (carbon cycling) realms. As the Earth is now passing through a new carbon isotope maximum, it is of vital impor-tance to understand the cyclic variations in the ocean carbon reservoir and its climate impact. The Pre-Quaternary varia-tions in carbon and oxygen isotopes are characterized by their co-variations at the 400-ka eccentricity band, but the response of d 13C and d 18O to orbital forcing in the Quater-nary became diverged with the growth of the Arctic ice-sheet. | 3 | Seasonal variations in planktonic foraminiferal flux and the chemical properties of their shells in the southern South China Sea显示文摘Results from sediment trap experiments conducted in the southern South China Sea from May 2004 to March 2006 revealed significant monsoon-induced seasonal variations in flux and shell geochemistry of planktonic foraminifera. The total and species-specific fluxes showed bimodal pattern, such as those of Globigerinoides ruber, Globigerinoides sacculifer, Neoglobo-quadrina dutertrei, Globigerinita glutinata, and Globigerina bulloides. Their high values occurred in the prevailing periods of the northeast and southwest monsoons, and the low ones appeared between the monsoons. Pulleniatina obliquiloculata had high flux rates mainly during northeast monsoon, with exceptional appearance in August 2004. These fluxes changed largely in accord with those of total particle matter and organic carbon, following chlorophyll concentration and wind force. It is inferred that the biogenic particle fluxes are controlled essentially by primary productivity under the influence of East Asian monsoon in the southern SCS. Shell stable oxygen isotope and Mg/Ca data correspond with seasonal variation of sea surface temperature. Shell δ18O values are affected primarily by sea water temperature, and the δ18O changes of different-depth dwelling species indicate upper sea water temperature gradient. Besides, the low carbon isotope values occurred in the periods of East Asian monsoon in general, whereas the high ones between the monsoons. | 4 | Oxygen and carbon isotope records of calcareous nanno-fossils for the past 1 Ma in the southern South China Sea显示文摘Oxygen and carbon isotopic analyses have been carried out on calcareous nannofossils from ODP Site 1143 in the southern South China Sea. The results demonstrate that the δ18O values of calcareous nannofossils for the past 1 Ma vary systematically with those of planktonic and benthic foraminifera from the same site. But the average δ18O value of nannofossils is 1.869‰ higher than that of planktonic foraminifera, and is 3.855‰ lower than that of benthic foar-minifera. There are systematic differences between the δ13C values of nannofossils, planktonic foarminifera and benthic foraminifera. The average δ13C of nannofossils is 0.756‰ higher than that of benthic foraminifera, and is 0.460‰ lower than that of planktonic foraminifera. The δ13C values of nannofossils exhibit a significant positive shift beginning near isotope stage 14 and lasting until stage 8. This study also finds that there is a close ralationship between the δ13C of nannofossils and the percentage of Florisphaera profundo. | 5 | Responses of foraminiferal isotopic variations at ODP Site 1143 in the southern South China Sea to orbital forcing显示文摘The foraminiferal δ18O and δ13C records for the past 5 Ma at ODP Site 1143 reveal the linear responses of the Plio-Pleistocene climatic changes in the southern South China Sea to orbital forcing at the obliquity and precession bands. The phase of the δ18O variations with the orbital forcing is opposite to that of the δ13C, which may be caused by the frequent El Nino events from the equatorial Pacific. The amplification of the Northern Hemisphere Ice Sheet at ~3.3 Ma probably affected the development of the 100-ka climatic cycles. Its further spreading may spur the 100-ka climatic cycle to become the dominant cycle in the late Pleistocene. The 'MidPleistocene Transition' event has localized influence on the isotopic variations in the southern South China Sea. | 6 | Late Quaternary upper-water column structure in upwelling areas of the South China Sea显示文摘Based on a quantitative analysis of planktonic foraminifera in two gravity cores (17928 and 17954), the history of the upper-water structure of the eastern and western slopes of the South China Sea (SCS) over the last 220 Ka was reconstructed using the transfer function technique. Our results show that lower sea surface temperature (SST) and shallower depth of thermocline (DOT) exist at Core 17928, off Luzon, in the glacial periods; on the contrary, the same situation turned up in the interglacial at Core 17954, off Vietnam. These changes of the upper-water column structure in the two areas are induced by coastal up-welling, which in turn is driven by monsoons, namely, winter monsoon leads to upwelling at the eastern slope, and summer monsoon gives birth to upwelling on the western slope. Moreover, the intensity of upwellings is also closely related to the evolution of the East Asian monsoon. | 7 | Age estimation of the mid-Pleistocene microtektite event in the South China Sea: A case showing the complexity of the sea-land correlation显示文摘The present study confirms the stratigraphical position of microtektite layer being clearly located below the Brunhes/Matuyama (B/M) boundary. Based on the sedimentation rate derived from the stable isotopic and magnetic data of ODP Site 772A, cores 17957 and 17959 in the South China Sea, the age of the mid-Pleistocene impact event was estimated at 10-12 ka earlier than the Brunhes-Matuyama polarity reversal. However, the microtektites were found above the measured B/M boundary in the loess profile due to the downward deviation of the measured B/M boundary from its true position. | 8 | PID control of uncertain nonlinear stochastic systems with state observer显示文摘The classical proportional-integral-derivative(PID) controller is ubiquitous in engineering systems that are typically nonlinear with various uncertainties, including random noise. However, most of the literature on PID control focused on linear deterministic systems. Thus, a theory that explains the rationale of the linear PID when dealing with nonlinear uncertain stochastic systems and a concrete design method that can provide explicit formulas for PID parameters are required. Recently, we have demonstrated that the PID controller can globally stabilize a class of second-order nonlinear uncertain stochastic systems, where the derivative of the system output is assumed to be obtainable, which is generally unrealistic in practical applications. This has motivated us to present some theoretical results on PID control with a state observer for nonlinear uncertain stochastic systems. | 15 | Early Pleistocene formation of the asymmetric east-west pattern of upper water structure in the equatorial Pacific Ocean显示文摘Surface-and subsurface-dwelling planktonic foraminifera from the upper 43 m of Hole A at the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Site 807,which was recovered from the western Pacific warm pool during ODP Leg 130,were analyzed for stable oxygen and carbon isotopes.By comparing these results with data from ODP Site 851 in the eastern equatorial Pacific,this study has reconstructed the paleoceanographic changes in upper ocean waters in the equatorial Pacific since 2.5 Ma.During the period from 1.6-1.4 Ma,the oxygen isotopes of surface and subsurface waters were found to markedly change in the western and eastern equatorial Pacific,further confirming the final formation of the well-defined asymmetric east-west (E-W) pattern at that time.This feature was similar to the zonal temperature gradient (sea surface temperature is higher in the west and lower in the east) and the asymmetric upper water structure (thermocline depth is deeper in the west and shallower in the east) in the modern equatorial Pacific.The zonal gradient change of subsurface water δ18O was greater than that of surface water δ18O,indicating that the formation of the asymmetric E-W pattern in the equatorial Pacific should be much more related to the shoaled thermocline and markedly decreased subsurface water temperature in the eastern equatorial Pacific.Moreover,since ~1.6 Ma,the carbon isotopic differences between surface and subsurface waters clearly decreased in the equatorial Pacific,and their long-term eccentricity periods changed from 400 ka to ~500 ka,reflecting the reorganization of the ocean carbon reservoir.This probably resulted from the deep water reorganization in the Southern Ocean at that time and its enhanced influence on the tropical Pacific (especially subsurface water).Our study demonstrates that the tropical ocean plays an important role in global climate change. | JIN HaiYan JIAN ZhiMin CHENG XinRong GUO JianQing | 2011 | Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,21: | 1 |

| 19 | Lower Boundary of the Marine Pleistocene in Northern Shelf of the South China Sea显示文摘A marine stratigraphic sequence across the Pliocene / Pleistocene boundary has been found in the north-ern continental shelf of the South China Sea. The marine Quaternary deposits in the Yinggehai Basin may ex-ceed 2,000 m in thickness, probably providing the best section for studying the lower boundary of the marinePleistocene in South China. The vertical succession with planktonic foraminifers and nannofossils revealed inboreholes in the basin has been well correlated with that in the international stratotype section of thePliocene / Pleistocene boundary at Vrica, Italy, resulting in the acquirement of a biostratigraphic boundary at1.64 Ma. This boundary, however, does not coincide with any prominent lithological palaeoenvironmentalchanges in the study area and can hardly be used in geological practice. There are, in contrast, significantchanges at the level of LAD of Globorotalia multicamerata sensu lato located below the above-mentionedboundary. The percentage of planktonic foraminifers in the total population and preservation of foraminiferaltests display great changes at this level corresponding to a clear onlap on the seismic profiles and indicating adepositional hiatus at ca. 2.0-2.5 Ma. | 20 | Revealing performance of 78Li_(2)S-22P_(2)S_(5) glass ceramic based solid-state batteries at different operating temperatures显示文摘78Li_(2)S-22P_(2)S_(5) are sulfide electrolytes with high lithium-ion conductivity and wide electrochemical windows in the Li_(2)S-P_(2)S_(5) system,making them attractive solid electrolytes for ASSLBs.However,the role and potential of 78Li_(2)S-22P_(2)S_(5) solid electrolytes over a wide temperature range are still not fully understood.Therefore,we constructed solid-state batteries with NCM622 as the positive electrode and 78Li_(2)S-22P_(2)S_(5) glass-ceramics as the electrolyte to investigate in depth the differences in battery performance over a wide temperature range and their intrinsic mechanisms.The in-situ impedance and relaxation time distribution (DRT) demonstrated the electrochemical stability of the electrolyte over a wide temperature range,while the in-situ stacking pressure observed a large volume change during cycling at 60℃,leading to local solid-solid contact failure and poor cycling stability.This study provides insight into the advantages and problems of 78Li_(2)S-22P_(2)S_(5) in the wide temperature range as well as a basis for the construction of ASSLBs with high energy density and long cycle life. | Chaochao Wei Xinrong Liu Chuang Yu Shaoqing Chen Shuai Chen Shijie Cheng Jia Xie | 2023 | Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,7: | 0 |
