1Ubiquitination of Rheb governs growth factor-induced mTORC1 activation显示文摘Mechanistic target of rapamycin mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1)plays a key role in the integration of various environmental signals to regulate cell growth and metabolism,mTORC1 is recruited to the lysosome where it is activated by its interaction with GTP-bound Rheb GTPase.However,the regulatory mechanism of Rheb activity remains largely unknown.Here,we show that ubiquitination governs the nucleotide-bound status of Rheb.Lysosome-anchored E3 ligase RNF152 catalyzes Rheb ubiquitination and promotes its binding to the TSC complex.EGF enhances the deubiquitination of Rheb through AKT-dependent USP4 phosphorylation,leading to the release of Rheb from the TSC complex.Functionally,ubiquitination of Rheb is linked to mTORC1-mediated signaling and consequently regulates tumor growth.Thus,we propose a mechanistic model whereby Rheb-mediated mTORC1 activation is dictated by a dynamic opposing act between Rheb ubiquitination and deubiquitination that are catalyzed by RNF152 and USP4 respectively.Lu Deng Lei Chen Linlin Zhao Yan Xu Xiaoping Peng Xinbo Wang Lin Ding Jiali Jin Hongqi Teng Yanming Wang Weijuan Pan Fei Yu Lujian Liao Li Li Xin Ge Ping Wang 2019Cell Research2019,29,2:16
2Meditation promotes insightful problem-solving by keeping people in amindful and alert conscious state显示文摘Although previous studies have shown that sleep can inspire insight,it is still unclear whether meditation can promote insight.Meditation differs from other types of passive rest such as relaxation and sleep because it requires full consciousness andmindfulness of targets such as one's breathing.Forty-eight university students without meditation experience were recruited to learn a simple meditation technique.They were given a list of 10 insight problems to solve (the pre-test session).In this study,we focused on the unsolved problems and examined if they could be successfully solved after a 20min rest interval with or without meditation.Results showed that relative to the control group that listened to Chinese or English words and made a language judgment,the groups who learned meditation successfully solved significantly more failed problems from the pre-test session,providing direct evidence for the role of meditation in promoting insight.Further analysis showed that maintaining amindful and alert state during meditation (raising a hand to report every 10 deep breaths compared to every 100 deep breaths) resulted in more insight regarding the failed items from the pre-test session.This implies that it was watchfulness in meditation,rather than relaxation,that actually contributed to insight.Consistently,in the meditation session or control task,the percentage of alpha waves—a brain index of mental relaxation—was negatively correlated with insight.These results suggest a meditation-based insight-promoting mechanism different from that involved in passive rest such as relaxation and sleep.REN Jun HUANG ZhiHui LUO Jing WEI GaoXia YING XiaoPing DING ZhiGuang WU YiBin LUO Fei 2011Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,10:11

4Fe5C2 nanoparticles as low-cost HER electrocatalyst:the importance of Co substitution显示文摘Constructing and understanding the doping effect of secondary metal in transition metal carbide(TMC)catalysts is pivotal for the design of low-cost hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) electrocatalysts. In this work, we developed a wet-chemistry strategy for synthesizing Co-modified Fe_5C_2 nanoparticles((Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs) as highly active HER electrocatalysts in basic solution. The structure of(Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectra(EXAFS) and scanning/transmission electron microscopy(S/TEM), indicating that the isomorphous substitution of cobalt in the lattice of Fe_5C_2.(Fe_(0.75) Co_(0.25))_5C_2 exhibited the best HER activity(174 mV for j = -10 mA/cm^2). Computational calculation results indicate that Co provides the most active site for HER. X-ray adsorption spectra(XAS) studies further suggested that the electron transfer in Fe–C bonds are enhanced by the substitution of Co, which modulates the hydrogen adsorption on the adjacent electronic-enriched carbon, and therefore promotes HER activity. 5Asymmetric distribution of cytokinins determines root hydrotropism in Arabidopsis thaliana显示文摘The phenomenon of plant root tips sensing moisture gradient in soil and growing towards higher water potential is designated as root hydrotropism,which is critical for plants to survive when water is a limited factor.Molecular mechanisms regulating such a fundamental process,however,are largely unknown.Here we report our identification that cytokinins are key signaling molecules directing root growth orientation in a hydrostimulation(moisture gradient)condition.Lower water potential side of the root tip shows more cytokinin response relative to the higher water potential side.Consequently,two cytokinin downstream type-A response regulators,ARR16 and ARR17,were found to be up-regulated at the lower water potential side,causing increased cell division in the meristem zone,which allows the root to bend towards higher water potential side.Genetic analyses indicated that various cytokinin biosynthesis and signaling mutants,including the arr16 arr17 double mutant,are significantly less responsive to hydrostimulation.Consistently,treatments with chemical inhibitors interfering with either cytokinin biosynthesis or cell division completely abolished root hydrotropic response.Asymmetrically induced expression of ARR16 or ARR17 effectively led to root bending in both wild-type and miz1,a previously known hydrotropism-defective mutant.These data demonstrate that asymmetric cytokinin distribution is a primary determinant governing root hydrotropism.Jinke Chang Xiaopeng Li Weihao Fu Jiawen Wang Yueyuan Yong Hongyong Shi Zhaojun Ding Hong Kui Xiaoping Gou Kai He Jia Li 2019Cell Research2019,29,12:4
6A qualitative study on nurses'reactions to inpatient suicide in a general hospital显示文摘Aims:To explore the impact of inpatient suicides on nurses working in front-line,the patterns of regulation and their needs for support.Methods:Data were collected through purposive sampling by conducting semi-structured and individual in-depth interviews in a tertiary referral hospital in China.Colaizzi's sevenstep phenomenological method was simultaneously used by two interviewers.Results:Reactions to inpatient suicides revealed three central themes:(1)inpatients were highly likely to commit suicide,(2)inpatient suicide was difficult to prevent,and(3)nurses lacked the necessary suicide prevention skills.Psychological responses mainly included shock and panic,self-accusation or guilt,sense of fear,and frustration.The impacts on practice were stress,excessive vigilance,and burnout.Avoidance and sharing of feelings played key roles in the regulation patterns of nurses.Conclusions:Nurses who experienced inpatient suicide became stressed.Effective interventions must be implemented to improve the coping mechanisms of nurses against the negative consequences of inpatient suicide.The findings of this study will allow administrators to gain insight into the impacts of inpatient suicides on nurses in general hospitals.Such information can be used to develop effective strategies and provide individual support and ongoing education.Consequently,nurses will acquire suicide prevention skills and help patients achieve swift recovery.Shujie Wang Xiaoping Ding Deying Hu Keke Zhang Di Huang 2016International Journal of Nursing Sciences2016,3,4:4
7Estrogenic effect of the extract of Renshen(Radix Ginseng) on reproductive tissues in immature mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the estrogenic efficacy of Renshen(Radix Ginseng)(GS) on reproductive target tissues in immature mice.METHODS: One hundred and ten female immature Kunming(KM) mice, 21-day-old, were randomly assigned to eleven groups, 10 for each; one served as control group treated with 0.154 mg/kg estradiol valerate(EV,n = 10), the rest were treated respectively with GS intragastrically at a daily dose of 0.5,1.0, 1.5, 3.0, 6.0, 12.0, 18.0, 24.0 and 30.0 g/kg(n =10 in per group) for 7 days. The estrous cycle, uterine weight, hormone levels in circulation and histomorphology changes of uterus and vagina were scrupulously examined. The estrogen receptor(ER)α and ERβ expressions in the uterus and vagina were detected by immunohistochemistry and western blotting.RESULTS: Treatment with GS at the dose of 12.0,18.0 and 24.0 g/kg resulted significant estrogenic activity in the mice, as indicated by advanced and prolonged estrous stage and increased uterine weight(all P < 0.05). GS treatment substantially promoted development of reproductive tissue by thickening the uterine endometrium and increasing vaginal epithelial layers. In addition, treatment with GS induced significant up-regulation of ERαand ERβ expressions in reproductive tissues, and ERα up-regulation was stronger than that of ERβ.GS could raise levels of circulating estrogen, simultaneously decrease levels of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone(all P < 0.001)compared with the control group.CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that GS had estrogenic effect on reproductive tissues in immature mice by stimulating biosynthesis of estrogen in circulation and up-regulating ERs.Ding Jie Xu Ying Ma Xiaoping An Jinna Yang Xiudong Liu Zhiqiang Lin Na 2015Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2015,35,4:3

11Characterization of the unprecedented polynya events north of Greenland in 2017/2018 using remote sensing and reanalysis data显示文摘Based on an ice concentration threshold of 90%,it has been identified that two polynya events occurred in the region north of Greenland during the 2017/2018 ice season.The winter event lasted from February 20 to March 3,2018 and the summer event persisted from August 2 to September 5,2018.The minimum ice concentration derived from Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2(AMSR2)observations was 72%and 65%during the winter and summer events,respectively.The occurrence of both events can be related to strengthened southerly winds associated with an increased east-west zonal surface level air pressure gradient across the north Greenland due to perturbation of mid-troposphere polar vortex.The relatively warm air temperature during the 2017/2018 freezing season in comparison with previous years,together with the occurrence of the winter polynya,formed favourable pre-conditions for ice field fracturing in summer,which promoted the formation of the summer polynya.Diminished southerly winds and increased cover of new ice over the open water were the dominant factors for the disappearance of the winter polynya,whereas increased ice inflow from the north was the primary factor behind the closure of the summer polynya.Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR)images were found better suited than AMSR2 observations for quantification of a new ice product during the polynya event because the SAR images have high potential for mapping of different sea ice regimes with finely spatial resolution.The unprecedented polynya events north of Greenland in 2017/2018 are important from the perspective of Arctic sea ice loss because they occurred in a region that could potentially be the last“Arctic sea ice refuge”in future summers.Ruibo Lei Dawei Gui Zhouli Yuan Xiaoping Pang Ding Tao Mengxi Zhai 2020Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,9:3
12The adaptive strategies of yaks to live in the Asian highlands显示文摘The yak(Bos grunniens),an indigenous herbivore raised at altitudes between 3,000 and 5,000 m above sea level,is closely linked to more than 40 ethnic communities and plays a vital role in the ecological stability,livelihood security,socio-economic development,and ethnic cultural traditions in the Asian highlands.They provide the highlanders with meat,milk,fibres,leather and dung(fuel).They are also used as pack animals to transport goods,for travel and ploughing,and are important in many religious and traditional ceremonies.The Asian highlands are known for an extremely,harsh environment,namely low air temperature and oxygen content and high ultraviolet light and winds.Pasture availability fluctuates greatly,with sparse pasture of poor quality over the long seven-month cold winter.After longterm natural and artificial selections,yaks have adapted excellently to the harsh conditions:1)by genomics,with positively selected genes involved in hypoxia response and energy metabolism;2)anatomically,including a short tongue with a weak sense of taste,and large lung and heart;3)physiologically,by insensitivity to hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction,maintaining foetal haemoglobin throughout life,and low heart rate and heat production in the cold season;4)behaviourlly,by efficient grazing and selecting forbs with high nutritional contents;5)by low nitrogen and energy requirements for maintenance and low methane emission and nitrogen excretion,namely,‘Low-Carbon’and‘Nitrogen-Saving’traits;6)by harboring unique rumen microbiota with a distinct maturation pattern,that has coevolved with host metabolism.This review aims to provide an overview of the comprehensive adaptive strategies of the yak to the severe conditions of the highlands.A better understanding of these strategies that yaks employ to adapt to the harsh environment could be used in improving their production,breeding and management,and gaining benefits in ecosystem service and a more resilient livelihood to climate change in the Asian highlands.Xiaoping Jing Luming Ding Jianwei Zhou Xiaodan Huang Allan Degen Ruijun Long 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,2:2

14Asymmetric Distribution of Convection in Tropical Cyclones over the Western North Pacific Ocean显示文摘Forecasts of the intensity and quantitative precipitation of tropical cyclones(TCs) are generally inaccurate, because the strength and structure of a TC show a complicated spatiotemporal pattern and are affected by various factors. Among these, asymmetric convection plays an important role. This study investigates the asymmetric distribution of convection in TCs over the western North Pacific during the period 2005–2012, based on data obtained from the Feng Yun 2(FY2)geostationary satellite. The asymmetric distributions of the incidence, intensity and morphology of convections are analyzed.Results show that the PDFs of the convection occurrence curve to the azimuth are sinusoidal. The rear-left quadrant relative to TC motion shows the highest occurrence rate of convection, while the front-right quadrant has the lowest. In terms of intensity, weak convections are favored in the front-left of a TC at large distances, whereas strong convections are more likely to appear to the rear-right of a TC within a 300 km range. More than 70% of all MCSs examined here are elongated systems, and meso-β enlongated convective systems(MβECSs) are the most dominant type observed in the outer region of a TC. Smaller MCSs tend to be more concentrated near the center of a TC. 15An Ultra-microporous Carbon Material Boosting Integrated Capacitance for Cellulose-Based Supercapacitors显示文摘A breakthrough in advancing power density and stability of carbon-based supercapacitors is trapped by inefficient pore structures of electrode materials.Herein,an ultramicroporous carbon with ultrahigh integrated capacitance fabricated via one-step carbonization/activation of dense bacterial cellulose(BC)precursor followed by nitrogen/sulfur dual doping is reported.The microporous carbon possesses highly concentrated micropores(~2 nm)and a considerable amount of sub-micropores(<1 nm).The unique porous structure provides high specific surface area(1554 m^2 g^-1)and packing density(1.18 g cm^-3).The synergistic effects from the particular porous structure and optimal doping effectively enhance ion storage and ion/electron transport.As a result,the remarkable specific capacitances,including ultrahigh gravimetric and volumetric capacitances(430 F g^-1 and 507 F cm^-3 at 0.5 A g^-1),and excellent cycling and rate stability even at a high current density of 10 A g^-1(327 F g^-1 and 385 F cm^-3)are realized.Via compositing the porous carbon and BC skeleton,a robust all-solid-state cellulose-based supercapacitor presents super high areal energy density(~0.77 mWh cm^-2),volumetric energy density(~17.8 W L^-1),and excellent cyclic stability.Chenfeng Ding Tianyi Liu Xiaodong Yan Lingbo Huang Seungkon Ryu Jinle Lan Yunhua Yu Wei?Hong Zhong Xiaoping Yang 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,5:2
16Maintenance and Sudden Change of a Strong Elevated Ducting Event Associated with High Pressure and Marine Low-Level Jet显示文摘Capture of a strong elevated ducting event,especially its maintenance and sudden change,is of great value to airborne radar to achieve its beyond-the-line-of-sight detection.However,the knowledge is not easily accessible over the open ocean and hence very rare.During the Air–Sea Interaction Survey(ASIS)over the western North Pacific(WNP)in May 2016,a strong elevated ducting event with a long-life period and sudden change in its evolution was observed.Measurements from the ASIS,images from the Himawari-8 satellite,reanalysis data from the ECMWF,and Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model,were used to analyze the maintenance and sudden change of this strong ducting event,together with the model performance on simulating it.The results showed that the maintenance of strong elevated ducts,with their tops ranging from 750 to 1050 m and average strength of approximately 38 M units,was caused by a strong dry air mass capping over the wet marine atmospheric boundary layer(MABL),together with the subsidence inversion associated with high pressure.The WRF model performs well in simulating them.However,a sudden increase in duct height with a slight decrease of strength was recorded by the subsequent GPS radiosonde,which was finally contributed to the mechanical turbulent inversion and hydrolapse associated with the marine low-level jet(MLLJ).The height of the maximum horizontal wind speed(Umh)of the MLLJ corresponds well with the bottom of the trapping layer.However,these jet-relevant ducts are generally weak and it is difficult to accurately simulate them by using the mesoscale numerical model,since the wind-shear produced eddies are too small to be properly parameterized.Zhichao LIANG Juli DING Jianfang FEI Xiaoping CHENG Xiaogang HUANG 2020Journal of Meteorological Research2020,34,6:2

19Direct/indirect effects of aerosols and their separate contributions to Typhoon Lupit(2009):Eyewall versus peripheral rainbands显示文摘As a typhoon approaches the continent,the position where anthropogenic aerosols penetrate,the convection competition between the eyewall and peripheral rainbands,and the separate contributions of direct aerosol-radiation interactions(ARI)and indirect aerosol-cloud interactions(ACI),yield uncertainties in the convection intensification area and hence the typhoon intensity.Typhoon Lupit(2009)was simulated using the Weather Research and Forecasting Model with Chemistry(WRF-Chem)to investigate and isolate the direct and indirect effects of aerosols on the intensity,convection,and precipitation of the typhoon.Three simulations(CTL,CLEAN,and CTLARIOFF)were designed,representing a polluted case(CTL,considering the ingestion of anthropogenic aerosols with ARI and ACI),a clean maritime case(CLEAN,mainly with sea salt aerosols),and a polluted case without aerosol radiative forcing(CTLARIOFF,as per CTL but without ARI).The results showed that anthropogenic aerosols could penetrate into both the peripheral rainbands and the eyewall when the typhoon was approaching the Asian continent.Owing to the representation of the real aerosol scenario,the simulated typhoon intensity weakened and was closer to observed values in the CTL experiment.The ARI dominated over ACI with the opposite effects.Specifically,the ACI mainly enhanced the formation of ice-phase hydrometeors within the upper level of the eyewall with more freezing latent heat releases,leading to an invigoration of eyewall convection.These excess ice-phase particles melted after they descended into the warm layer below the 0°C level,which accelerated the accretion of cloud droplets by raindrops(Pcacr)and hence the mixed phase precipitation process in the eyewall.The dynamic feedback induced by the ACI enhanced the boundary layer inflow and the upper layer outflow,supporting the maintenance of strong eyewall convection and intensification of the typhoon.Inversely,the ARI heated the distant periphery low-level atmosphere at an altitude of 1-2 km by the absorbing polluted aerosols.The heated air,driven by the radial inflow,firstly went through the periphery rainbands of the typhoon and invigorated convection there due to the low-level warming.Then,the enhanced periphery convection inhibited the further transport of warm moist air into the eyewall,resulting in weakening of the eyewall convection and hence typhoon intensity.In sum,for the polluted scenario,as the typhoon approached the continent,ARI played a dominant role over ACI.The WRF-Chem model with full consideration of aerosol-cloud-radiation interactions is advantageous in terms of reliably simulating typhoon intensity and precipitation distribution.Zhichao LIANG Juli DING Jianfang FEI Xiaoping CHENG Xiaogang HUANG 2021Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,12:1
