| 1 | Combining sap flow measurement-based canopy stomatal conductance and ^(13)C discrimination to estimate forest carbon assimilation显示文摘The available methods for studying C uptake of forest and their problems in practices are reviewed, and a new approach to combining sap flow and 13C techniques is proposed in this paper. This approach, obtained through strict mathematic derivation, combines sap flow measure-ment-based canopy stomatal conductance and 13C discrimi-nation to estimate instantaneous carbon assimilation rate of a forest. Namely the mean canopy stomatal conductance (gc) acquired from accurate measurement of sap flux density is integrated with the relationship between 13C discrimination (?) and Ci/Ca (intercellular/ambient CO2 concentrations) and with that between Anet (net photosynthetic rate) and gCO2 (stomatal conductance for CO2) so that a new relation be-tween forest C uptake and ? as well as gc is established. | 3 | Fe5C2 nanoparticles as low-cost HER electrocatalyst:the importance of Co substitution显示文摘Constructing and understanding the doping effect of secondary metal in transition metal carbide(TMC)catalysts is pivotal for the design of low-cost hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) electrocatalysts. In this work, we developed a wet-chemistry strategy for synthesizing Co-modified Fe_5C_2 nanoparticles((Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs) as highly active HER electrocatalysts in basic solution. The structure of(Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectra(EXAFS) and scanning/transmission electron microscopy(S/TEM), indicating that the isomorphous substitution of cobalt in the lattice of Fe_5C_2.(Fe_(0.75) Co_(0.25))_5C_2 exhibited the best HER activity(174 mV for j = -10 mA/cm^2). Computational calculation results indicate that Co provides the most active site for HER. X-ray adsorption spectra(XAS) studies further suggested that the electron transfer in Fe–C bonds are enhanced by the substitution of Co, which modulates the hydrogen adsorption on the adjacent electronic-enriched carbon, and therefore promotes HER activity. | 4 | Changes in sea ice kinematics in the Arctic outflow region and their associations with Arctic Northeast Passage accessibility显示文摘Amplification of climate warming in the Arctic is causing a dramatic retreat of sea ice, which means the Arctic sea routes are becoming increasingly accessible. This study used a satellite-derived sea ice motion product to quantify the kinematic features of sea ice in the Arctic outflow region which specially referred to the Fram Strait and to the north of the Northeast Passage(NEP). An observed trend of increased southward sea ice displacement from the central Arctic to the Fram Strait indicated enhancement of the Transpolar Drift Stream(TDS). In the regions to the north of the NEP, the long-term trend of northward sea ice speed in the Kara sector was +0.04 cm/s per year in spring. A significant statistical relationship was found between the NEP open period and the northward speed of the sea ice to the north of the NEP. The offshore advection of sea ice could account for the opening of sea routes by 33% and 15% in the Kara and Laptev sectors, respectively. The difference in sea level pressure across the TDS,i.e., the Central Arctic Index(CAI), presented more significant correlation than for the Arctic atmospheric Dipole Anomaly index with the open period of the NEP, and the CAI could explain the southward displacement of sea ice toward the Fram Strait by more than 45%. | 6 | Experimental and numerical investigations of scale-up effects on the hydrodynamics of slurry bubble columns显示文摘Experiments and simulations were conducted for bubble columns with diameter of 0.2 m(180 mm i.d.), 0.5 m(476 mm i.d.) and 0.8 m(760 mm i.d.) at high superficial gas velocities(0.12–0.62 m·s-1) and high solid concentrations(0–30 vol%). Radial profiles of time-averaged gas holdup, axial liquid velocity, and turbulent kinetic energy were measured by using in-house developed conductivity probes and Pavlov tubes. Effects of column diameter, superficial gas velocity, and solid concentration were investigated in a wide range of operating conditions. Experimental results indicated that the average gas holdup remarkably increases with superficial gas velocity, and the radial profiles of investigated flow properties become steeper at high superficial gas velocities. The axial liquid velocities significantly increase with the growth of the column size, whereas the gas holdup was slightly affected. The presence of solid in bubble columns would inhibit the breakage of bubbles, which results in an increase in bubble rise velocity and a decrease in gas holdup, but time-averaged axial liquid velocities remain almost the same as that of the hollow column. Furthermore, a 2-D axisymmetric k–ε model was used to simulate heterogeneous bubbly flow using commercial code FLUENT 6.2. The lateral lift force and the turbulent diffusion force were introduced for the determination of gas holdup profiles and the effects of solid concentration were considered as the variation of average bubble diameter in the model. | 9 | PrP mutants with different numbers of octarepeat sequences are more susceptible to the oxidative stress显示文摘One of the physiological functions of cellular prion protein(PrP C )is believed to work as a cellular resistance to oxidative stress,in which the octarepeats region within PrP plays an important role.However,the detailed mechanism is less clear.In this study,the expressing plasmids of wild-type PrP (PrP-PG5)and various PrP mutants containing 0(PrP-PG0),9(PrP-PG9)and 12(PrP-PG12)octarepeats were generated and PrP proteins were expressed both in E.coli and in mammalian cells.Protein aggregation and formation of carbonyl groups were clearly seen in the recombinant PrPs expressed from E.coli after treatment of H2O2.MTT and trypan blue staining assays revealed that the cells expressing the mutated PrPs within octarepeats are less viable than the cells expressing wild-type PrP.Statistically significant high levels of intracellular free radicals and low levels of glutathione peroxidase were observed in the cells transfected with plasmids containing deleted or inserted octarepeats.Remarkably more productions of carbonyl groups were detected in the cells expressing PrPs with deleted and inserted octarepeats after exposing to H2O2.Furthermore,cells expressing wild-type PrP showed stronger resistant activity to the challenge of H2O2 at certain extent than the mutated PrPs and mock. | 16 | Daily sea ice concentration product based on brightness temperature data of FY-3D MWRI in the Arctic显示文摘A daily sea ice concentration(SIC)product in the Arctic,derived from the brightness temperature(TB)data of the Microwave Radiation Imager(MWRI)sensor aboard on the FY-3D satellite,is described in this paper.The MWRI TB raw swath data were first processed into daily gridded data and then corrected using the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2(AMSR2)sensor.An ASI algorithm,which uses daily dynamic tie points,was adopted to calculate daily SIC at 12.5 km polar stereographic projection from January 2018 to June 2020.Our generated MWRI SIC product was compared with the AMSR2 SIC based on the ASI algorithm that uses fixed tie points.For more detailed comparison,we then compared our MWRI SIC with the SIC from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)data.The mean bias between our MWRI SIC and AMSR2 SIC is 4.24%.The absolute values of biases between the daily MWRI SIC and MODIS SIC range from 0.14%to 10.76%,better than the MWRI SIC product based on the NT2 algorithm published by the Chinese National Satellite Meteorological Center.The results show that our MWRI SIC product has a good quality and can be used as a basic dataset for sea ice extent records.The dataset is available at http://gffzze4f4599d7a764a8fh5bbp60bqff9c6wu5.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/10.11922/sciencedb.00137. | Ying Chen Xi Zhao Xiaoping Pang Qing Ji | 2022 | Big Earth Data2022,6,2: | 1 |
