1An environmental flow assessment method based on the relationships between flow and ecological response: A case study of the Three Gorges Reservoir and its downstream reach显示文摘The current environmental flow assessment of Chinese rivers is thought to have three shortcomings: The first is that environmental flow requirements of reservoirs in dammed rivers are usually not explicitly considered; the second is that enough attentions have not been paid to the inherent links between flow regime and ecological processes; the third is that most studies focus on the variable range of merely one hydrological element such as discharge needed by riverine ecosystems. Here, first proposed is a holistic method for environmental flow assessment, the flow-ecological response relationship method that is suitable for large rivers with relatively abundant ecological data. Based on the conceptual models and quantitative relationships between flow and ecological response, this method comprehensively considers the ecological conservation requirements of both reservoir and its downstream reach. Then, it is applied to assessing the environmental flows of the Three Gorges Reservoir and its downstream reach by the following steps: 1) Construction of conceptual models of flow-ecological response; 2) identification of ecological targets of environmental flows and their key periods; 3) development of the quantitative relationships between hydrological indicators and ecological indictors; 4) preliminary assessment of environmental flow according to the tradeoff between ecological targets and water demands of human. The environmental flow hydrographs obtained have explicit ecological conservation targets, time schedule of achieving each target, and characteristics of multiple hydrological elements such as flow, water level, frequency, timing, duration and rate of change. 2Thermal protection mechanism of heat pipe in leading edge under hypersonic conditions显示文摘Sharp local structure, like the leading edge of hypersonic aircraft, confronts a severe aerodynamic heating environment at a Mach number greater than 5. To eliminate the danger of a material failure, a semi-active thermal protection system is proposed by integrating a metallic heat pipe into the structure of the leading edge. An analytical heat-balance model is established from traditional aerodynamic theories, and then thermal and mechanical characteristics of the structure are studied at Mach number 6–8 for three refractory alloys, Inconel 625, C-103, and T-111. The feasibility of this simple analytical method as an initial design tool for hypersonic aircraft is assessed through numerical simulations using a finite element method. The results indicate that both the isothermal and the maximum temperatures fall but the von Mises stress increases with a longer design length of the leading edge. These two temperatures and the stress rise remarkably at a higher Mach number. Under all investigated hypersonic conditions, with a 3 mm leading edge radius and a0.15 m design length, the maximum stress exceeds the yield strength of Inconel 625 at Mach numbers greater than 6, which means a material failure. 3Temperature and velocity dependent friction of a microscale graphite-DLC heterostructure显示文摘One of the promising approaches to achieving large scale superlubricity is the use of junctions between existing ultra-flat surface together with superlubric graphite mesas.Here we studied the frictional properties of microscale graphite mesa sliding on the diamond-like carbon,a commercially available material with a ultra-flat surface.The interface is composed of a single crystalline graphene and a diamond-like carbon surface with roughness less than I nm.Using an integrated approach,which includes Argon plasma irradiation of diamond-like carbon surfaces,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis and Langmuir adsorption modeling,we found that while the velocity dependence of friction follows a thermally activated sliding mechanism,its temperature dependence is due to the desorption of chemical groups upon heating.These observations indicate that the edges have a significant contribution to the friction.Our results highlight potential factors affecting this type of emerging friction junctions and provide a novel approach for tuning their friction properties through ion irradiation.Yujie GONGYANG Wengen OUYANG Cangyu QU Michael URBAKH Baogang QUAN Ming MA Quanshui ZHENG 2020Friction2020,8,2:5
4Energy corrugation in atomic-scale friction on graphite revisited by molecular dynamics simulations显示文摘Although atomic stick–slip friction has been extensively studied since its first demonstration on graphite,the physical understanding of this dissipation-dominated phenomenon is still very limited. In this work, we perform molecular dynamics(MD) simulations to study the frictional behavior of a diamond tip sliding over a graphite surface. In contrast to the common wisdom, our MD results suggest that the energy barrier associated lateral sliding(known as energy corrugation) comes not only from interaction between the tip and the top layer of graphite but also from interactions among the deformed atomic layers of graphite. Due to the competition of these two subentries, friction on graphite can be tuned by controlling the relative adhesion of different interfaces.For relatively low tip-graphite adhesion, friction behaves normally and increases with increasing normal load. However,for relatively high tip-graphite adhesion, friction increases unusually with decreasing normal load leading to an effectively negative coefficient of friction, which is consistent with the recent experimental observations on chemically modified graphite. 5A stable oxygen evolution splitting electrocatalysts high entropy alloy FeCoNiMnMo in simulated seawater显示文摘Stabilizing anode for oxygen evolution(OER)in chlorine-containing electrolytes is a significant challenge.Adding corrosion inhibitors in electrolytes can alleviate this problem,but the type and dosage of cor-rosion inhibitors need a lot of exploration,and side reactions may occur to reduce current efficiency.Herein,we prepared a FeCoNiMnMo High entropy alloy(HEA)electrode for OER in simulated seawa-ter without corrosion inhibitors.It exhibits great electrocatalytic activity(overpotential(η)=237 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2))and excellent stability(200 h at 100 mA cm^(-2)).Experiments and Density Functional The-ory(DFT)calculation show that the protective layer containing K_(2)MoO_(4)is the crucial factor for chlorine resistance of FeCoNiMnMo electrode.The tightly adsorbed state of Cl-and K_(2)MoO_(4)ensures that other oxides are not corroded.And the externally added K_(2)MoO_(4)cannot protect the electrode.In addition,the high-entropy effect of HEA reduces the dissolution of the alloy.This work provides an efficient way to prepare a noble-free HEA catalyst that can stabilize oxygen evolution in corrosive electrolytes.Peng Li Yuanpeng Yao Wengen Ouyang Ze Liu Huayi Yin Dihua Wang 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,7:2
