3Changing profiles of cancer burden worldwide and in China: a secondary analysis of the global cancer statistics 2020显示文摘Background:Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally,but its burden is not uniform.GLOBOCAN 2020 has newly updated the estimates of cancer burden.This study summarizes the most recent changing profiles of cancer burden worldwide and in China and compares the cancer data of China with those of other regions.Methods:We conducted a descriptive secondary analysis of the GLOBOCAN 2020 data.To depict the changing global profile of the leading cancer types in 2020 compared with 2018,we extracted the numbers of cases and deaths in 2018 from GLOBOCAN 2018.We also obtained cancer incidence and mortality from the 2015 National Cancer Registry Report in China when sorting the leading cancer types by new cases and deaths.For the leading cancer types according to sex in China,we summarized the estimated numbers of incidence and mortality,and calculated China’s percentage of the global new cases and deaths.Results:Breast cancer displaced lung cancer to become the most leading diagnosed cancer worldwide in 2020.Lung,liver,stomach,breast,and colon cancers were the top five leading causes of cancer-related death,among which liver cancer changed from the third-highest cancer mortality in 2018 to the second-highest in 2020.China accounted for 24%of newly diagnosed cases and 30%of the cancer-related deaths worldwide in 2020.Among the 185 countries included in the database,China’s age-standardized incidence rate(204.8 per 100,000)ranked 65th and the age-standardized mortality rate(129.4 per 100,000)ranked 13th.The two rates were above the global average.Lung cancer remained the most common cancer type and the leading cause of cancer death in China.However,breast cancer became the most frequent cancer type among women if the incidence was stratified by sex.Incidences of colorectal cancer and breast cancer increased rapidly.The leading causes of cancer death varied minimally in ranking from 2015 to 2020 in China.Gastrointestinal cancers,including stomach,colorectal,liver,and esophageal cancers,contributed to a massive burden of cancer for both sexes.Conclusions:The burden of breast cancer is increasing globally.China is undergoing cancer transition with an increasing burden of lung cancer,gastrointestinal cancer,and breast cancers.The mortality rate of cancer in China is high.Comprehensive strategies are urgently needed to target China’s changing profiles of the cancer burden.Wei Cao Hong-Da Chen Yi-Wen Yu Ni Li Wan-Qing Chen 2021Chinese Medical Journal2021,,7:982
4A complete sequence and comparative analysis of a SARS-associated virus(Isolate BJ01)显示文摘The genome sequence of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)-associated virus provides essential information for the identification of pathogen(s), exploration of etiology and evolution, interpretation of transmission and pathogenesis, development of diagnostics, prevention by future vaccination, and treatment by developing new drugs. We report the complete genome sequence and comparative analysis of an isolate (BJ01) of the coronavirus that has been recognized as a pathogen for SARS. The genome is 29725 nt in size and has 11 ORFs (Open Reading Frames). It is composed of a stable region encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (composed of 2 ORFs) and a variable region representing 4 CDSs (coding sequences) for viral structural genes (the S, E, M, N proteins) and 5 PUPs (putative uncharacterized proteins). Its gene order is identical to that of other known coronaviruses. The sequence alignment with all known RNA viruses places this virus as a member in the family of Coronaviridae. Thirty putative substitutions have been identified by comparative analysis of the 5 SARS- associated virus genome sequences in GenBank. Fifteen of them lead to possible amino acid changes (non-synonymous mutations) in the proteins. Three amino acid changes, with predicted alteration of physical and chemical features, have been detected in the S protein that is postulated to beinvolved in the immunoreactions between the virus and its host. Two amino acid changes have been detected in the Mprotein, which could be related to viral envelope formation. Phylogenetic analysis suggests the possibility of non-human origin of the SARS-associated viruses but provides noevidence that they are man-made. 6Surgical outcomes of mini-open Wiltse approach and conventional open approach in patients with single-segment thoracolumbar fractures without neurologic injury显示文摘This study aimed to introduce a novel mini-open pedicle screw fixation technique via Wiltse approach,and compared it with the traditional posterior open method.A total of 72 cases of single-segment thoracolumbar fractures without neurologic injury underwent pedicle screw fixation via two different approaches.Among them,37 patients were treated using posterior open surgery,and 35 patients received mini-open operation via Wiltse approach.Crew placement accuracy rate,operative time,blood loss,postoperative drainage,postoperative hospitalization time,radiation exposure time,postoperative improvement in R value,Cobb's angle and visual analog scale(VAS)scores of the two methods were compared.There were no significant differences in the accuracy rate of pedicle screw placement,radiation exposure and postoperative R value and Cobb's angle improvement between the two groups.However,the mini-open method had obvious advantages over the conventional open method in operative time,blood loss,postoperative drainage,postoperative hospitalization time,and postoperative improvement in VAS.The mini-open pedicle screw technique could be applied in treatment of single-segment thoracolumbar fracture without neurologic injury and had advantages of less tissue trauma,short operative and rehabilitative time on the premise of guaranteed accuracy rate and no increased radiation exposure.Haijun Li Lei Yang Hao Xie Lipeng Yu Haifeng Wei Xiaojian Cao 2015The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,1:43
7Incidence trend of nasopharyngeal carcinoma from 1987 to 2011 in Sihui County,Guangdong Province,South China:an age-period-cohort analysis显示文摘Introduction:In the past several decades,declining incidences of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) have been observed in Chinese populations in Hong Kong,Taiwan,Los Angeles,and Singapore.A previous study indicated that the incidence of NPC in Sihui County,South China remained stable until 2002,but whether age,diagnosis period,and birth cohort affect the incidence of NPC remains unknown.Methods:Age-standardized rates(ASRs) of NPC incidence based on the world standard population were examined in both males and females in Sihui County from 1987 to 2011.Joinpoint regression analysis was conducted to quantify the changes in incidence trends.A Poisson regression age-period-cohort model was used to assess the effects of age,diagnosis period,and birth cohort on the risk of NPC.Results:The ASRs of NPC incidence during the study period were 30.29/100,000 for males and 13.09/100,000 for females.The incidence of NPC remained stable at a non-significant average annual percent change of 0.2%for males and-1.6%for females throughout the entire period.A significantly increased estimated annual percent change of 6.8%(95%confidence interval,0.1%-14.0%) was observed from 2003 to 2009 for males.The relative risk of NPC increased with advancing age up to 50-59 and decreased at ages >60 years.The period effect curves on NPC were nearly flat for males and females.The birth cohort effect curve for males showed an increase from the1922 cohort to the 1957 cohort and a decrease thereafter.In females,there was an undulating increase in the relative risk from the 1922 cohort to the 1972 cohort.Conclusions:The incidence trends for NPC remained generally stable in Sihui from 1987 to 2011,with an increase from 2003 to 2009.The relative risks of NPC increased in younger females.Li-Fang Zhang Yan-Hua Li Shang-Hang Xie Wei Ling Sui-Hong Chen Qing Liu Qi-Hong Huang Su-Mei Cao 2015Chinese Journal of Cancer2015,34,8:47

9Altitude dependency of trends of daily climate extremes in southwestern China, 1961-2008显示文摘A total of 12 indices of temperature extremes and 11 indices of precipitation ex-tremes at 111 stations in southwestern China at altitudes of 285-4700 m were examined for the period 1961-2008. Significant correlations of temperature extremes and elevation in-cluded the trends of diurnal temperature range, frost days, ice days, cold night frequency and cold day frequency. Regional trends of growing season length, warm night frequency, coldest night and warmest night displayed a statistically significant positive correlation with altitude. These characteristics indicated the obvious warming with altitude. For precipitation extreme indices, only the trends of consecutive dry days, consecutive wet days, wet day precipitation and the number of heavy precipitation days had significant correlations with increasing alti-tude owing to the complex influence of atmospheric circulation. It also indicated the increased precipitation mainly at higher altitude areas, whereas the increase of extreme precipitation events mainly at lowers altitude. In addition, the clearly local influences are also crucial on climate extremes. 11SlMYB75,an MYB-type transcription factor,promotes anthocyanin accumulation and enhances volatile aroma production in tomato fruits显示文摘Genetic manipulation of genes to upregulate specific branches of metabolic pathways is a method that is commonly used to improve fruit quality.However,the use of a single gene to impact several metabolic pathways is difficult.Here,we show that overexpression of the single gene SlMYB75(SlMYB75-OE)is effective at improving multiple fruit quality traits.In these engineered fruits,the anthocyanin content reached 1.86mg g−1 fresh weight at the red-ripe stage,and these SlMYB75-OE tomatoes displayed a series of physiological changes,including delayed ripening and increased ethylene production.In addition to anthocyanin,the total contents of phenolics,flavonoids and soluble solids in SlMYB75-OE fruits were enhanced by 2.6,4,and 1.2 times,respectively,compared to those of wild-type(WT)fruits.Interestingly,a number of aroma volatiles,such as aldehyde,phenylpropanoid-derived and terpene volatiles,were significantly increased in SlMYB75-OE fruits,with some terpene volatiles showing more than 10 times higher levels than those in WT fruits.Consistent with the metabolic assessment,transcriptomic profiling indicated that the genes involved in the ethylene signaling,phenylpropanoid and isoprenoid pathways were greatly upregulated in SlMYB75-OE fruits.Yeast one-hybrid and transactivation assays revealed that SlMYB75 is able to directly bind to the MYBPLANT and MYBPZM cis-regulatory elements and to activate the promoters of the LOXC,AADC2 and TPS genes.The identification of SlMYB75 as a key regulator of fruit quality attributes through the transcriptional regulation of downstream genes involved in several metabolic pathways opens new avenues towards engineering fruits with a higher sensory and nutritional quality.Wei Jian Haohao Cao Shu Yuan Yudong Liu Juanfang Lu Wang Lu Ning Li Jianhui Wang Jian Zou Ning Tang Chan Xu Yulin Cheng Yanqiang Gao Wanpeng Xi Mondher Bouzayen Zhengguo Li 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:39
12Carbon isotope excursions across the Permian-Triassic boundary in the Meishan section, Zhejiang Province, China显示文摘Both gradual and sharp decrease in organic and carbonate carbon isotope values were detected across the Permian-Triassic boundary in the Meishan section, Changxing, Zhejiang Province, China. The gradual decrease in organic carbon isotope values started at the bottom of Bed 23, coinciding with the strong oscillations of total organic carbon (TOC) contents, indicates increasing fluxes from carbonate to organic carbon reservoir during this interval. A 2.3‰ sharp drop of inorganic carbon isotope values occurred at the uppermost part of Bed 24e. A 3.7‰ sharp drop of organic carbon isotope values occurred in Bed 26. The dramatic drop of inorganic carbon isotope value of 8‰ reported previously is not confirmed from the unweathered carbonate samples in Bed 27. The large-scale fluctuation of organic carbon isotope values in the Yinkeng Formation reflects different extent of mixing of marine and terrestrial organic matters. 13Intravenous injection of mesenchymal stem cells is effective in treating liver fibrosis显示文摘AIM: To compare the influence of different transplant sites in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based therapy for liver fibrosis. METHODS: MSCs isolated from Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were induced into hepatocyte-like cells. Liver fibrosis in SD rats was induced with carbon tetrachloride. Following hepatocyte induction in vitro, 4',6-diamidino- 2-phenylindole (DAPI)-labeled MSCs were transplanted by intravenous, intrahepatic, and intraperitoneal injection. Histopathological staining, immunohistochemistry, and biochemical analysis were used to compare the morphological and functional liver regeneration among different MSC injection modalities. The expression differences of interleukins, growth factor, extracellular matrix, matrix metalloproteinases, and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase were examined by real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) andenzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: Four days after exposure to hepatocyte differentiation medium, MSCs that did not express hepatocyte markers could express α-fetoprotein, albumin, and cytokeratin 18. The results of histopathological staining, immunohistochemistry, and biochemical analysis indicated that intravenous injection is more effective at rescuing liver failure than other injection modalities. DAPI-labeled cells were found around liver lobules in all three injection site groups, but the intravenous group had the highest number of cells. PCR and ELISA analysis indicated that interleukin-10 (IL-10) was highest in the intravenous group, whereas il1β, il6, tnfα and tgfβ, which can be regulated by IL10 and are promoters of liver fibrosis, were significantly lower than in the other groups. CONCLUSION: MSC administration is able to protect against liver fibrosis. 15Molecular screening of patients with nonsyndromic hearing loss from Nanjing city of China显示文摘Hearing loss is the most frequent sensory disorder involving a multitude of factors,and at least 50% of cases are due to genetic etiology.To further characterize the molecular etiology of hearing loss in the Chinese population,we recruited a total of 135 unrelated patients with nonsyndromic sensorineural hearing loss (NSHL) for mutational screening of GJB2,GJB3,GJB6,SLC26A4,SLC26A5 IVS2-2A>G and mitochondrial 12SrRNA,tRNA Ser(UCN) by PCR amplification and direct DNA sequencing.The carrier frequencies of deafness-causing mutations in these patients were 35.55% in GJB2,3.70% in GJB6,15.56% in SLC26A4 and 8.14% in mitochondrial 12SrRNA,respectively.The results indicate the necessity of genetic screening for mutations of these causative genes in Chinese population with nonsyndromic hearing loss.Yajie Lu Dachun Dai Zhibin Chen Xin Cao Xingkuan Bu Qinjun Wei Guangqian Xing 2011The Journal of Biomedical Research2011,25,5:30
16Atorvastatin protects against cerebral ischemia/ reperfusion injury through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects显示文摘In addition to its lipid-lowering effect, atorvastatin exerts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects as well. In this study, we hypothesized that atorvastatin could protect against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. The middle cerebral artery ischemia/reperfusion model was established, and atorvastatin, 6.5 mg/kg, was administered by gavage. We found that, after cerebral ischemia/ reperfusion injury, levels of the inflammation-related factors E-selectin and myeloperoxidase were upregulated, the oxidative stress-related marker malondialdehyde was increased, and superoxide dismutase activity was decreased in the ischemic cerebral cortex. Atorvastatin pretreatment significantly inhibited these changes. 17Ankylosing spondylitis: etiology, pathogenesis, and treatments显示文摘Ankylosing spondylitis(AS), a common type of spondyloarthropathy, is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease that mainly affects spine joints, causing severe, chronic pain;additionally, in more advanced cases, it can cause spine fusion. Significant progress in its pathophysiology and treatment has been achieved in the last decade. Immune cells and innate cytokines have been suggested to be crucial in the pathogenesis of AS, especially human leukocyte antigen(HLA)?B27 and the interleukin?23/17 axis.However, the pathogenesis of AS remains unclear. The current study reviewed the etiology and pathogenesis of AS, including genome-wide association studies and cytokine pathways. 18Genetic diversity of rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.) in China and the temporal trends in recent fifty years显示文摘To understand geographical distribution of the genetic diversity of rice cultivars {Oryza sativa L.) and its trends in recent fifty years in China, 453 ’ accessions were analyzed by 36 microsatellites loci and 42 phenotypic traits. Results revealed that the genetic diversity by SSRs is highly consistent with that by phenotypic traits and the genetic diversity of indica cultivars was higher than that of japonica cultivars; the genetic diversity of cultivars declined from 1950s to 1980s and then increased greatly; among the six rice ecological zones (REZs), genetic diversity of REZTl was the highest and those of REZV and REZVT were the lowest at both DNA and phenotypic level. Jiangsu and Jiangxi provinces in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River and Sichuan province in southwest of China were the areas with the highest genetic diversity. 20Self-tuning virtual synchronous generator control for improving frequency stability in autonomous photovoltaic-diesel microgrids显示文摘This paper investigates the use of a virtual synchronous generator(VSG) to improve frequency stability in an autonomous photovoltaic-diesel microgrid with energy storage. VSG control is designed to emulate inertial response and damping power via power injection from/to the energy storage system. The effect of a VSG with constant parameters(CP-VSG) on the system frequency is analyzed. Based on the case study, self-tuning algorithms are used to search for optimal parameters during the operation of the VSG in order to minimize the amplitude and rate of change of the frequency variations. The performances of the proposed self-tuning(ST)-VSG, the frequency droop method, and the CP-VSG are evaluated by comparing their effects on attenuating frequency variationsunder load variations.
