A Novel Rice bHLH Transcription Factor, DTD, Acts Coordinately with TDR in Controlling Tapetum Function and Pollen Development显示文摘Dear Editor, Male reproductive development is an essential biological process for flowering plants and crucial for crop seed production.Formation of the male reproductive organ, the anther, involves a number of developmental events, including stamen meristem specification, generation of sporogenous cells and their differentiation into microspore mother cells (MMCs),meiosis, microspore (pollen) maturation, and pollination (Ma,2005).The formation of microspores and their development into mature pollen grains require cooperative interactions between gametophytic (microspores) and sporophytic (anther wall) cells, with the innermost cell layer, the tapetum, playing the most crucial role (Ma,2005).Tapetal cells undergo degeneration by programmed cell death (PCD). | Chonghui Ji Heying Li Libin Chen Min Xie Fengping Wang Yuanling Chen Yao-Guang Liu | 2013 | Molecular Plant2013,6,5: | 14
Ultrasensitive terahertz metamaterial sensor based on vertical split ring resonators显示文摘An ultrasensitive metamaterial sensor based on double-slot vertical split ring resonators(DVSRRs) is designed and numerically calculated in the terahertz frequency. This DVSRR design produces a fundament LC resonance with a quality factor of about 20 when the incidence magnetic field component normal to the DVSRR array. The resonant characteristics and sensing performance of the DVSRR array design are systematically analyzed employing a contrast method among three similar vertical split ring resonator(SRRs) structures. The research results show that the elimination of bianisotropy, induced by the structural symmetry of the DVSRR design, helps to achieve LC resonance of a high quality factor. Lifting the SRRs up from the substrate sharply reduces the dielectric loss introduced by the substrate. All these factors jointly result in superior sensitivity of the DVSRR to the attributes of analytes. The maximum refractive index sensitivity is 788 GHz/RIU or 1.04 × 10~5 nm∕RIU.Also, the DVSRR sensor maintains its superior sensing performance for fabrication tolerance ranging from -4% to 4% and wide range incidence angles up to 50° under both TE and TM illuminations. | WEI WANG FENGPING YAN SIYU TAN HONG ZHOU YAFEI HOU | 2017 | Photonics Research2017,5,6: | 9
A review of road extraction from remote sensing images显示文摘As a significant role for traffic management, city planning, road monitoring,GPS navigation and map updating, the technology of road extraction from a remote sensing(RS) image has been a hot research topic in recent years. In this paper, after analyzing different road features and road models, the road extraction methods were classified into the classification-based methods,knowledge-based methods, mathematical morphology, active contour model, and dynamic programming.Firstly, the road features, road model, existing difficulties and interference factors for road extraction were analyzed.Secondly, the principle of road extraction, the advantages and disadvantages of various methods and research achievements were briefly highlighted. Then, the comparisons of the different road extraction algorithms were performed, including road features, test samples and shortcomings. Finally, the research results in recent years were summarized emphatically. It is obvious that only using one kind of road features is hard to get an excellent extraction effect.Hence,in order to get good results, the road extraction should combine multiple methods according to the real applications. In the future, how to realize the complete road extraction from a RS image is still an essential but challenging and important research topic. | Weixing Wang Nan Yang Yi Zhang Fengping Wang Ting Cao Patrik Eklund | 2016 | Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2016,3,3: | 9
Core Metabolic Features and Hot Origin of Bathyarchaeota显示文摘The archaeal phylum Bathyarchaeota comprises highly diversified subgroups and is considered to be one of the most abundant microorganisms on earth. The metabolic features and evolution of this phylum still remain largely unknown. In this article, a comparative metabolic analysis of 15 newly reconstructed and 36 published metagenomic assembled genomes (MAGs) spanning 10 subgroups was performed, revealing the core metabolic features of Bathyarchaeota—namely, protein, lipid, and benzoate degradation;glycolysis;and the Wood–Ljungdahl (WL) pathway, indicating an acetyl-CoA-centralized metabolism within this phylum. Furthermore, a partial tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, acetogenesis, and sulfur-related metabolic pathways were found in specific subgroups, suggesting versatile metabolic capabilities and ecological functions of different subgroups. Intriguingly, most of the MAGs from the Bathy-21 and -22 subgroups, which are placed at the phylogenetic root of all bathyarchaeotal lineages and likely represent the ancient Bathyarchaeota types, were found in hydrothermal environments and encoded reverse gyrase, suggesting a hyperthermophilic feature. This work reveals the core metabolic features of Bathyarchaeota, and indicates a hot origin of this archaeal phylum. | Xiaoyuan Feng Yinzhao Wang Rahul Zubin Fengping Wang | 2019 | Engineering2019,5,3: | 7
Metal-dependent anaerobic methane oxidation in marine sediment:insights from marine settings and other systems显示文摘Anaerobic oxidation of methane(AOM) plays a crucial role in controlling global methane emission. This is a microbial process that relies on the reduction of external electron acceptors such as sulfate, nitrate/nitrite, and transient metal ions. In marine settings, the dominant electron acceptor for AOM is sulfate, while other known electron acceptors are transient metal ions such as iron and manganese oxides. Despite the AOM process coupled with sulfate reduction being relatively well characterized, researches on metal-dependent AOM process are few, and no microorganism has to date been identified as being responsible for this reaction in natural marine environments. In this review, geochemical evidences of metal-dependent AOM from sediment cores in various marine environments are summarized. Studies have showed that iron and manganese are reduced in accordance with methane oxidation in seeps or diffusive profiles below the methanogenesis zone. The potential biochemical basis and mechanisms for metal-dependent AOM processes are here presented and discussed. Future research will shed light on the microbes involved in this process and also on the molecular basis of the electron transfer between these microbes and metals in natural marine environments. | Lewen Liang Yinzhao Wang Orit Sivan Fengping Wang | 2019 | Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,10: | 7

Study of the deep biosphere has become a research frontier and a hot spot both for geological and biological sciences. Here, we introduce the history of the discovery of the deep biosphere, and then we describe the types of environments for life below the seafloor, the energy sources for the living creatures, the diversity of organisms within the deep biosphere, and the new tools and technologies used in this research field. We will highlight several recently completed Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expeditions, which targeted the subseafloor deep biosphere within the crust and sediments. Finally, future research directions and challenges of deep biosphere investigation towards uncovering the roles of subsurface microorganisms will be briefly addressed. | WANG FengPing LU ShuLin ORCUTT Beth N XIE Wei CHEN Ying XIAO Xiang EDWARDS Katrina J | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,4: | 6 |
Methane biotransformation in the ocean and its effects on climate change: A review显示文摘Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. Continental margins contain large reservoirs of methane as solid gas hydrate and the dissolved and gaseous forms of methane. Submarine methane seeps along the global continental margins, including the coastal seas, have been estimated to contribute 0.01 to 0.05 Gt of carbon to the atmosphere annually, accounting for between 1%and 5% of the global methane emissions to the atmosphere. Much of this methane is exhausted via microbial anaerobic methane oxidation. Methane biotransformation in the ocean has effects on global climate change. This review mainly introduces the mechanisms of methanogenesis and methane oxidation and describes new findings that will provide information that will improve the understanding of the balance in terms of the generation, migration and consumption of methane in marine environments. Moreover, this review provides new insights into methane biogeochemical cycles and the effects of marine methane budgets on global climate. | Mingyang NIU Wenyue LIANG Fengping WANG | 2018 | Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,12: | 4
The POM-DOM piezophilic microorganism continuum(PDPMC)—The role of piezophilic microorganisms in the global ocean carbon cycle显示文摘The deep ocean piezosphere accounts for a significant part of the global ocean, hosts active and diverse microbial communities which probably play a more important role than hitherto recognized in the global ocean carbon cycle. The conventional biological pump concept and the recently proposed microbial carbon pump mechanism provide a foundation for our understanding of the role of microorganisms in cycling of carbon in the ocean. However, there are significant gaps in our knowledge and a lack of mechanistic understanding of the processes of microbially-mediated production, transformation, degradation, and export of marine dissolved and particulate organic matter(DOM and POM)in the deep ocean and the ecological consequence. Here we propose the POM-DOM piezophilic microorganism continuum(PDPMC)conceptual model,to address these important biogeochemical processes in the deep ocean. We propose that piezophilic microorganisms(bacteria and archaea)play a pivotal role in deep ocean carbon cycle where microbial production of exoenzymes, enzymatic breakdown of DOM and transformation of POM fuels the rapid cycling of marine organic matter, and serve as the primary driver for carbon cycle in the deep ocean. | FANG JiaSong ZHANG Li LI Jiang Tao Chiaki KATO Christian TAMBURINI ZHANG YuZhong DANG HongYue WANG GuangYi WANG FengPing | 2015 | Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,1: | 4
UV illumination enhanced desorption of oxygen molecules from monolayer MoS2 surface显示文摘The oxygen adsorption can drastically alter the electronic properties of the two-dimensional(2D)materials,which is usually dificult to be removed. In this work,we report the ultraviolet(UV)ilumination induced desorption of the O2 molecules from the monolayer MoS2 surface by using the atmosphere dependent transport measurement,Kelvin probe microscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.Obvious increasing of the conductivity, rising of the Fermi level, and red shift of the photoluminescence peaks of the MoS2 were observed after the UV ilumination in vacuum, indicating the elimination of the depletion effect from the oxygen adsorption.Such parameter changes can be reversibly recovered by the subsequent O2 exposure.Furthermore, obvious decreasing of the oxygen concentration after the UV ilumination was also observed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Thus the UV induced O2 photodesorption effect is evidenced. The photo-excited charge transfer mechanism is proposed to account for the photodesorption effect. These results provide a nondestructive way to clean the MoS2 surface and manipulate the performance of the MoS2 based devices. | Yuhang Wang Zhiquan He Jinbing Zhang Hao Liu Xubo Lai Boyang Liu Yibao Chen Fengping Wang Liuwan Zhang | 2020 | Nano Research2020,13,2: | 3

Enhancing sensing capacity of terahertz metamaterial absorbers with a surface-relief design显示文摘Metamaterial absorbers(MAs)serve as important electromagnetic wave-absorbing devices that have captured the attention of researchers for a long term.Functioning as sensitive detectors to determine perturbations in an ambient environment is another significant subsidiary function. Here,we theoretically propose an optimized fabrication method to implement terahertz MAs with fewer steps and also evaluate both absorption and sensing performances of such MAs realized by the new method.Simulation findings demonstrate that such MAs can basically maintain the original absorption features perfectly, including near-complete absorption at resonance as well as strong robustness to wide incident angles.Specifically, the full width at half-maximum and quality factor of the absorption resonances attenuate less than 26%and 8%with this new method, remaining in the ranges of^0.03–0.04 THz and^20–27 for two selected example MAs.More significantly, sensing capacities of this type of MA,in terms of maximum detection range(enhancing at least 9%),observable spectral modulation(increasing at least 6.3%),and refractive index sensitivity, are improved to a large extent because of more intense coupling between resonant field and matter in the case of surface-relief MAs.This stronger coupling results from exposing more spots of the resonantly high field to direct contact with an approaching analyte, which is illustrated by field profiles of the MAs at resonance in this work.Additionally, other desirable absorber features are also explored with such MAs,like functioning as building blocks to configure multiband MAs and strong robustness against fabrication errors.Such new-style terahertz MAs shown in the paper, acting as good examples, not only prove that terahertz MAs can be fabricated by the proposed time-and cost-saving route in contrast to the traditional MA fabrication process, but also can serve as novel platforms to explore other intriguing terahertz photonic effects, such as the field enhancement effect. | WEI WANG FENGPING YAN SIYU TAN HAISU LI XUEMEI DU LUNA ZHANG ZHUOYA BAI DAN CHENG HONG ZHOU YAFEI HOU | 2020 | Photonics Research2020,8,4: | 3
SNP-based linkage mapping for validation of adult plant stripe rust resistance QTL in common wheat cultivar Chakwal 86显示文摘Wheat crops in China are constantly challenged by stripe rust. Deployment of cultivars with diverse resistances is the best strategy to control the disease. A recombinant inbred line(RIL) population derived from a cross between the resistant cultivar Chakwal 86 and susceptible landrace Mingxian 169 was studied in multiple environments to examine the underlying genetics and to identify quantitative trait loci(QTL) for stripe rust resistance. One hundred and twenty-eight RILs were genotyped with wheat 35 K SNP array and a genome-wide linkage map with 1480 polymorphic SNP markers, or bins, was constructed. Two major QTL on chromosomes 1BL and 3BS, and one minor QTL on 6BS had significant effects in reducing stripe rust severity. The QTL were validated using composite interval mapping(CIM) and inclusive composite interval mapping(ICIM). These methods explained59.0%–74.1% of the phenotype variation in disease response. The QTL on chromosome 1 BL was confirmed to be Yr29/Lr46 and the one on 3BS was the resistance allele identified in CIMMYT germplasm but was not Yr30/Sr2. The QTL on 6BS probably corresponded to previously known QTL. RILs with combined QTL were more resistant than those with single or no QTL. Kompetitive allele-specific PCR(KASP) assays for the QTL with largest effect QTL on chromosome 3BS were performed on a subset of RILs and 150 unrelated wheat lines. The QTL on 3BS with its linked KASP markers can be used in marker-assisted selection to improve stripe rust resistance in breeding programs. | Qingdong Zeng Jianhui Wu Shuo Huang Fengping Yuan Shengjie Liu Qilin Wang Jingmei Mu Shizhou Yu Li Chen Dejun Han Zhensheng Kang | 2019 | The Crop Journal2019,7,2: | 2
Molecular diversity of Thermococcales isolated from Guaymas Basin hydrothermal vents显示文摘Members of Thermococcales are organoheterotrophic hyperthermophilic anaerobes consisting of three genera, Thermococcus, Pyrococcus, and Palaeococcus, among which Thermococcus are the most frequently isolated. In this study, a variety of Thermococcales strains were isolated from the Guaymas Basin hydrothermal vents under different temperatures and pressures. Based on their 16S rRNA gene sequences, all the strains isolated from 85 C or 95 C enrichment cultures at ambient pressure were classified as Thermococcus, while strains isolated from 108 C-30 MPa enrichment cultures belonged to Pyrococcus. The combination of high pressure and high temperature for enrichment was shown to be an efficient method for isolating Pyrococcus strains. Through selecting and analyzing with multiple molecular phylogenetic markers, the isolated Thermococcales strains were found quite diversified including several putative novel species. This demonstrates a vast genetic reservoir of Thermoccoccales in the deep-sea hydrothermal vents, and a fast evolving of the Thermococcales species adapting to the fast changing environment. | LIU Lupeng WANG Fengping XU Jun XIAO Xiang | 2013 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2013,32,6: | 2
Scalable synthesis of Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)/C with high safety and ultrahigh-rate performance for sodium-ion batteries显示文摘NASICON-type Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3) is a promising electrode material for developing advanced sodium-ion batteries.Preparing Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3) with good performance by a cost-effective and large-scale method is significant for industrial applications. In this work,a porous Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)/C cathode material with excellent electrochemical performance is successfully prepared by an agar-gel combined with freeze-drying method. The Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)/C cathode displayed specific capacities of 113.4 mAh·g^(-1),107.0 mAh·g^(-1) and 87.1 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.1 C,1 C and 10 C,respectively. For the first time, the 500-mAh soft-packed symmetrical sodium-ion batteries based on Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)/C electrodes are successfully fabricated. The 500-mAh symmetrical batteries exhibit outstanding low temperature performance with a capacity retention of 83%at 0℃ owing to the rapid sodium ion migration ability and structural stability of Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)/C.Moreover,the thermal runaway features are revealed by accelerating rate calorimetry(ARC)test for the first time.Thermal stability and safety of the symmetrical batteries are demonstrated to be better than lithium-ion batteries and some reported sodium-ion batteries. Our work makes it clear that the soft-packed symmetrical sodium ion batteries based on Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)/C have a prospect of practical application in high safety requirement fields. | Guijia Cui Hong Wang Fengping Yu Haiying Che Xiaozhen Liao Linsen Li Weimin Yang Zifeng Ma | 2022 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2022,35,6: | 2
Functional micro‐concrete 3D hybrid structures f abricated by two‐photon polymerization显示文摘Arbitrary micro-scale three-dimensional(3D)structures fabrication is a dream to achieve many exciting goals that have been pursued for a long time.Among all these applications, the direct 3D printing to fabricate human organs and integrated photonic circuits are extraordinary attractive as they can promote the current technology to a new level.Among all the 3D printing methods available,two-photon polymerization(2PP)is very competitive as it is the unique method to achieve sub-micron resolution to make any desired tiny structures. For the conventional 2PP,the building block is the photoresist. However, the requirement for the building block is different for different purposes. It is very necessary to investigate and improve the photoresist properties according to different requirements. In this paper,we presented one hybrid method to modify the mechanical strength and light trapping efficiency of the photoresist, which transfers the photoresist into the micro-concretes.The micro-concrete structure can achieve±22%strength modification via a silica nano-particles doping. The structures doped with gold nano-particles show tunable plasmonic absorption.Dye doped hybrid structure shows great potential to fabricate 3D micro-chip laser. | Yang Li Lianwei Chen Fang Kong Zuyong Wang Ming Dao Chwee Teck Lim Fengping Li Minghui Hong | 2017 | 光电工程2017,44,4: | 2
Electrodeposition Process for the Fabrication of Copper Dendrites Film with Stable Superhydrophobicity显示文摘Copper dendrites on the copper surface were successfully prepared by electrodeposition in acidic copper sulfate aqueous solution containing ethanol. The XRD(X-ray difraction)patterns indicate that the Cu dendrites possess fcc(face-centered cubic)crystal structure. The contact angle of the as-prepared Cu dendrites surface without palmitic acid modification is almost 0 and the surface is completely wetted by water. After modified with palmitic acid, the Cu dendrite surface shows superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of 160.The polarization curves reveal that the superhydrophobic Cu dendrites surface exhibits a distinct passivation phenomenon, which could provide enhanced corrosion resistance for the substrate in the aqueous solution. The weight loss measurements show that the corrosion values of superhydrophobic surface is much lower than that of the bare copper, further meaning that the as-prepared surface has the anticorrosion performance. | Huan SHEN Fengping WANG Yanwei DING Jun YANG | 2013 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2013,26,6: | 2
Immune-adjuvant loaded Bi2Se3 nanocage for photothermal-improved PD-L1 checkpoint blockade immune-tumor metastasis therapy显示文摘Checkpoint blockade based immune therapy has shown to be effective but benefit only the minority of patients whose tumors have been pre-infiltrated by T cells. To overcome this obstacles, a PEG-modified Bi2Se3 nanocage (NC) loaded with imiquimod (R848), which could efficiently destroy the tumors thus producing enough tumor-associated antigens (TAA) and with the existence of R848, a toll-like-receptor-7 agonist, could generate strong anti-cancer immune responses is reported in this study. Moreover, immunogenic Bi2Se3 NC-PEG/R848 mediated photothermal therapy (PTT) sensitizes tumors to checkpoint inhibition mediated by a PD-L1 antibody, not only ablating cancer cells upon NIR laser but also causing strong anti-cancer immunity to suppress distant tumor growth post PTT. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate that the Bi2Se3 NC-PEG/R848 could effectively activate a PTT-induced immune response as well as silence immune resistance based on PD-L1 checkpoint blockade to ablate the primary tumor and further inhibit the tumor metastasis. Bi2Se3 NC reported here exhibits high photothermal conversion efficiency and stability, as well as competent drug loading capacity with large hollow structures and high surface area. Our study not only provides a facial way to synthesize Bi2Se3 NC, but also offers an alternative strategy for tumor metastasis. | Yilin Song Yidan Wang Siyu Wang Yu Cheng Qianglan Lu Lifang Yang Fengping Tan Nan Li | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,8: | 2
Towards enriching and isolation of uncultivated archaea from marine sediments using a refined combination of conventional microbial cultivation methods显示文摘The archaea that can be readily cultivated in the laboratory are only a small fraction of the total diversity that exists in nature.Although molecular ecology methods, such as metagenomic sequencing, can provide valuable information independent of cell cultivation,it is only through cultivation-based experiments that they may be fully characterized, both for their physiological and ecological properties. Here,we report our efforts towards enriching and isolation of uncultivated archaea from marine sediments using a refined combination of conventional microbial cultivation methods.Initially, cells were retrieved from the sediment samples through a cell extraction procedure and the sediment-free mixed cells were then divided into different size-range fractions by successive filtration through 0.8µm,0.6µm and 0.2µm membranes.Archaeal 16S rRNA gene analyses indicated noticeable retention of different archaeal groups in different fractions. For each fraction, supplementation with a variety of defined substrates(e.g.,methane,sulfate,and lignin)and stepwise dilutions led to highly active enrichment cultures of several archaeal groups with Bathyarchaeota most prominently enriched. Finally, using a roll-bottle technique, three co-cultures consisting of Bathyarchaeota(subgroup-8)and a bacterial species affiliated with either Pseudomonas or Glutamicibacter were obtained. Our results demonstrate that a combination of cell extraction, size fractionation, and roll-bottle isolation methods could be a useful protocol for the successful enrichment and isolation of numerous slow-growing archaeal groups from marine sediments. | Haining Hu Vengadesh Perumal Natarajan Fengping Wang | 2021 | Marine Life Science & Technology2021,3,2: | 2
