| 1 | Aspects of forest restoration and hydrology:the hydrological function of litter显示文摘Although forests play important roles in the hydrological cycle,there is little information that relates the water retention capacity of litter in areas under passive restoration,especially in Cerrado savannas.This study relates litter levels to water holding capacity and effective water retention among forest fragments under different passive restoration stages:46,11,and 8 years to better understand litter hydrological functions in the Cerrado.Water retention capacity and effective water retention capacity of litters(unstructured materials,branches and leaves)in the field were monitored on a monthly basis.Total litter accumulation at 46 years was significantly higher than that of the other succession stages.Unstructured litter mass was significantly higher than that of leaves and branches.The 46-year stage had the highest water holding capacity in the leaf fraction,followed by unstructured material and branches.Although the water holding capacity was lower in the oldest resto-ration,this site showed the highest efficiency under field conditions.The process was quickly reestablished,as the 11-year restoration showed results closer to that for the 46-year stage in comparison to the area at 8 years.Thus,passive restoration plays a key role in soil water mainte-nance due to the influence of litter in Cerrado savannas.Deforestation and the imminent need of restoring degraded sites,highlight the need for further studies focused on bet-ter understanding of the process of forest restoration and its temporal effect on soil water recovery dynamics. | Luara Castilho Pereira Leonardo Balbinot Marcelle Teodoro Lima Julieta Bramorski Kelly Cristina Tonello | 2022 | Journal of Forestry Research2022,33,2: | 3 |
| 2 | Precision micro-mechanical components in single crystal diamond by deep reactive ion etching显示文摘The outstanding material properties of single crystal diamond have been at the origin of the long-standing interest in its exploitation for engineering of high-performance micro-and nanosystems.In particular,the extreme mechanical hardness,the highest elastic modulus of any bulk material,low density,and the promise for low friction have spurred interest most notably for micro-mechanical and MEMS applications.While reactive ion etching of diamond has been reported previously,precision structuring of freestanding micro-mechanical components in single crystal diamond by deep reactive ion etching has hitherto remained elusive,related to limitations in the etch processes,such as the need of thick hard masks,micromasking effects,and limited etch rates.In this work,we report on an optimized reactive ion etching process of single crystal diamond overcoming several of these shortcomings at the same time,and present a robust and reliable method to produce fully released micro-mechanical components in single crystal diamond.Using an optimized Al/SiO_(2) hard mask and a high-intensity oxygen plasma etch process,we obtain etch rates exceeding 30μm/h and hard mask selectivity better than 1:50.We demonstrate fully freestanding micro-mechanical components for mechanical watches made of pure single crystal diamond.The components with a thickness of 150μm are defined by lithography and deep reactive ion etching,and exhibit sidewall angles of 82°–93°with surface roughness better than 200 nm rms,demonstrating the potential of this powerful technique for precision microstructuring of single crystal diamond. | Adrien Toros Marcell Kiss Teodoro Graziosi Hamed Sattari Pascal Gallo Niels Quack | 2018 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2018,4,1: | 2 |

| 4 | Clinical applications of advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques for arthritis evaluation显示文摘Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) has allowed a comprehensive evaluation of articular disease, increasing the detection of early cartilage involvement, bone erosions, and edema in soft tissue and bone marrow compared to other imaging techniques. In the era of functional imaging, new advanced MRI sequences are being successfully applied for articular evaluation in cases of inflammatory, infectious, and degenerative arthropathies. Diffusion weighted imaging, new fat suppression techniques such as DIXON, dynamic contrast enhanced-MRI, and specific T2 mapping cartilage sequences allow a better understanding of the physiopathological processes that underlie these different arthropathies. | 5 | ddRAD sequencing-based genotyping for population structure analysis in cultivated tomato provides new insights into the genomic diversity of Mediterranean‘da serbo’type long shelf-life germplasm显示文摘Double digest restriction-site associated sequencing(ddRAD-seq)is a flexible and cost-effective strategy for providing in-depth insights into the genetic architecture of germplasm collections.Using this methodology,we investigated the genomic diversity of a panel of 288 diverse tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)accessions enriched in‘da serbo’(called‘de penjar’in Spain)long shelf life(LSL)materials(152 accessions)mostly originating from Italy and Spain.The rest of the materials originate from different countries and include landraces for fresh consumption,elite cultivars,heirlooms,and breeding lines.Apart from their LSL trait,‘da serbo’landraces are of remarkable interest for their resilience.We identified 32,799 high-quality SNPs,which were used for model ancestry population structure and non-parametric hierarchical clustering.Six genetic subgroups were revealed,clearly separating most‘da serbo’landraces,but also the Spanish germplasm,suggesting a subdivision of the population based on type and geographical provenance.Linkage disequilibrium(LD)in the collection decayed very rapidly within<5 kb.We then investigated SNPs showing contrasted minor frequency allele(MAF)in‘da serbo’materials,resulting in the identification of high frequencies in this germplasm of several mutations in genes related to stress tolerance and fruit maturation such as CTR1 and JAR1.Finally,a mini-core collection of 58 accessions encompassing most of the diversity was selected for further exploitation of key traits.Our findings suggest the presence of a genetic footprint of the‘da serbo’germplasm selected in the Mediterranean basin.Moreover,we provide novel insights on LSL‘da serbo’germplasm as a promising source of alleles for tolerance to stresses. | Salvatore Esposito Teodoro Cardi Gabriele Campanelli Sara Sestili María JoséDíez Salvador Soler Jaime Prohens Pasquale Tripodi | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 2 |
