| 2 | Long-term vision-threatening complications of phakic intraocular lens implantation for high myopia显示文摘AIM:To report the long-term vision-threatening complications in patients who underwent phakic intraocular lens(pIOLs)implantation for high myopia.METHODS:Thisstudywasdesignedfromaconsecutive series of phakic intraocular lens complication and corrective surgeries.Sixteen eyes of 13 patients had implantation of phakic intraocular lens for correction high myopia and developed serious complications have been included in this study.The mean age of patients was 38.6±6.35y(range 32-50y)and the mean time of history of pIOL implantation for high myopia was 6±2y(range 2-10y).Before corrective surgery,best spectaclecorrective visual acuity(BSCVA)ranged from perception to 20/200 in the eyes in which severe complications occurred.RESULTS:Corneal decompensation occurred in 12eyes of 9 high myopic patients after anterior chamber pIOL implantation.Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)occurred in 4 eyes of 4 high myopic patients following anterior chamber and posterior chamber pIOL implantation.Patients with corneal decompensation,had combined procedures consisting of pIOL removal and penetrating keratoplasty(PKP).Removals of pIOL,phacoemulsification and pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)with silicone oil tamponade were performed in patients with RRD.After corrective surgeries,all patients but one(P+,patient 2,right eye)achieved moderate BSCVA ranged from 20/200 to 20/50 at the last visit.CONCLUSION:Phakic IOLs may be effective for thecorrection of high myopia.Although these IOLs may have severe complications and it affects safety and efficacy of this surgery.As seen here,corneal decompensation and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment are possible postoperative vision-threatening complications of phakic IOLs.Patients must be carefully examined before and after surgery for possible endothelial cell loss and vitreoretinal problems. | Isil Bahar Sayman Muslubas Baran Kandemir Ayse Yesim Aydin Oral Suleyman Kugu Metin Dastan | 2014 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,2: | 14 |

| 4 | Effect of acupuncture therapy on fracture healing in rats with femur fractures显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupuncture therapy on fracture healing in rats with femur fractures.METHODS: A total of 10 groups were formed;control group, groups sacrificed on 7 th, 14 th, and 21 st days of fracture formation, groups to which acupuncture was applied for 7, 14, and 21 d, groups to which fracture and acupuncture were applied for 7,14, and 21 d. A transverse fracture line was formed in femurs of rats by using a Gigli saw. The Kirschner wire was driven retrograde down from the fracture line to proximal part of the bone and then, the fracture was fixed towards distal part. Acupuncture was applied to the rats for 7, 14, and 21 d as 4 sessions per week after formation of the fracture.RESULTS: Malondialdehyde(MDA), reduced glutathione(GSH) levels, catalase(CAT), glutathione-Stransferase(GST), superoxide dismutase(SOD), and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G6 PD) activities were measured. Despite the increased MDA levels, G6 PD and SOD activities reduced during the fracture healing. There was a statistically significant increase in MDA, GSH levels, and G6 PD activity in fracture groups compared to control group, but CAT, GST, and SOD activities decreased. The use of acupuncture enhanced callus development and bone mineralization during bone healing.CONCLUSION: The acupuncture therapy can affect suppression of the effects of free oxygen radicals and regulation of the antioxidant enzyme activity in fracture healing. | 5 | Evaluation of systemic risk factors in different optical coherence tomographic patterns of diabetic macular edema显示文摘● AIM: To elucidate the relationship between systemic risk factors and different patterns of diabetic macular edema(DME) determined with optical coherence tomography(OCT).● METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, DME was classified by OCT as diffuse retinal thickness(DRT), cystoid macular edema(CME) and serous retinal detachment(SRD) and the relationship between the systemic risk factors and DME patterns was evaluated.● RESULTS: Of the 57 patients with DME, 21(36.8%) had DRT, 24(42.1%) had CME and 12(21.0%) had SRD. Microor macro-albuminuria was significantly higher in the DRT pattern(61.9%) compared with the SRD(50.0%) and CME patterns(25.0%; P=0.040). Hemoglobin A1 c(Hb A1 c) level was significantly higher and patients were younger in the DRT pattern group(P=0.034, P=0.032). Best corrected visual acuity was the worst and central macular thickness was the thickest in the CME pattern group.● CONCLUSION: Micro-or macro-albuminuria may be more frequent and Hb A1 c level may be higher in patients with DRT. | 6 | Serum arylesterase and paraoxonase activity in patients with chronic hepatitis显示文摘AIM: To investigate the relationship between serum paraoxonase (PON1), AST, ALT, GGT, and arylesterase (AE) activity alterations and the degree of liver damage in patients with chronic hepatitis.METHODS: We studied 34 chronic hepatitis patients and 32 control subjects, aged between 35 and 65 years,in the Department of Infection and Clinical Microbiology at the Firat University School of Medicine. Blood samples were collected from subjects between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. following a 12-h fast. Baseline and salt-stimulated PON1 activities were measured by the hydrolysis of paraoxon. Phenyl acetate was used as the substrate and formed phenol was measured spectrophotometrically at 270 nm after the addition of a 10-fold diluted serum sample in AE activity measurements.RESULTS: The results of this investigation revealed that the levels of AE activity decreased from 132±52 to 94±36 (29%), baseline PON1 activity from 452±112 to 164±67 (64%), salt-stimulated PON1 activity from 746±394 to 294±220 (61%), HDL from 58.4±5.1 to 47.2±5.6(20%), triglyceride from 133±51.2 to 86±34.0 (35%),while a slight increase in the level of LDL (from 163±54.1 to 177.3±56.0; 9%) and significant increases in the levels of AST (from 29±9.3 to 98±44), ALP (from 57.2±13.1 to 91±38.1), ALT (from 27.9±3.32 to 89±19.1), GGT (from 24.3±2.10 to 94±48.2), total bilirubin (from 0.74±0.02 to 1.36±0.06; 84%) and direct bilirubin (from 0.18±0.01 to 0.42±0.04; 133%) were detected.However, the levels of albumin, total protein, cholesterol,and uric acid were almost the same in chronic hepatitis and the control subjects.CONCLUSION: Low PON1 and AE activity may contribute to the increased liver dysfunction in chronic hepatitis patients by reducing the ability of HDL to retard LDL oxidation and might be clinically useful for monitoring the disease of chronic hepatitis. | Suleyman Sirri Kilic Suleyman Aydin Nermin Kilic Fazilet Erman Suna Aydin Ilhami Celik | 2005 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2005,11,46: | 4 |
| 7 | Effect of thermal treatment on the swelling and surface roughness of common alder and wych elm wood显示文摘Wood heat treatment has increased significantly in recent years and is still growing as an industrial process to improve some wood properties. We studied the change of swellingand surface roughness of common alder(Alnus glutinosa(L.) Gaertn. ssp.glutinosa) and wych elm(Ulmus glabra Huds.) woods after heat treatment at two different temperatures and durations. The temperatures were 180 and 200 C and the durations were 2 and 4 h. A stylus method was employed to evaluate the surface characteristics of the samples. Roughness measurements by the stylus method were made in the direction perpendicular to the fiber on the wood surface. Four main roughness parameters, mean arithmetic deviation of profile(Ra), mean peak-to-valley height(Rz), root mean square roughness(Rq), and maximum roughness(Ry) were used to evaluate the effect of heat treatment on the surface characteristics of the specimens. Swelling and surface roughness parameters(Ra, Rz, Ry, and Rq) differed significantly for two temperatures and two durations of heat treatment. | 9 | Removal of phenol by activated carbons prepared from palm oil mill effluent sludge显示文摘The study was attempted to produce activated carbons from palm oil mil l effluent (POME) sludge. The adsorption capacity of the activated carbons produ ced was evaluated in aqueous solution of phenol. Two types of activation were fo llowed, namely, thermal activation at 300, 500 and 800℃, and physical activatio n at 150℃ (boiling treatment). A control (raw POME sludge) was used to compare the adsorption capacity of the activated carbons produced. The results indicated that the activation temperature of 800℃ showed maximum absorption capacity by the activated carbon (POME 800) in aqueous solution of phenol. Batch adsorption studies showed an equilibrium time of 6 h for the activated carbon of POME 800. It was observed that the adsorption capacity was higher at lower values of pH (2 —3) and higher value of initial concentration of phenol (200—300 mg/L). The eq uilibrium data were fitted by the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The adsorption of phenol onto the activated carbon POME 800 was studied in terms of pseudo- first and second order kinetics to predict the rate constant and equ ilibrium capacity with the effect of initial phenol concentrations. | 10 | What is the relationship between frailty and orthostatic hypotension in older adults?显示文摘Background Frailty and orthostatic hypotension (OH),which is common in older adults,is associated with morbidity and mortality.The relationship between them remains unclear.The aim of the study is to determine whether there is a relationship between frailty and OH.Methods A total of 496 patients who were admitted to the geriatric clinic and underwent comprehensive geriatric assessment were retrospectively reviewed.In a cross-sectional and observational study,OH was measured by the Head-up Tilt Table test at 1,3,and 5 min (respectively,OH1,OH3,and OH5) and the frailty was measured by the Fried’s frailty scale.Results The mean age of all patients was 75.4 ± 7.38.The prevalence of females was 69.8%.When the frail people were compared with the pre-frail and the robust ones,the frailty was associated with OH1.There was no relationship between the groups in terms of OH1 when the pre-frail group was compared with the robust group.OH3 were higher in the frail group than in the pre-frail group (P < 0.05) and the OH5 were higher in the frail group than in the pre-frail and robust group (P < 0.05),but OH3 and OH5 were not associated with frailty status when they were adjusted for age (P > 0.05).Slowness and weakness were associated with OH1 (P < 0.05),whereas the other components of the Fried’s test were not.Conclusions Frailty may be a risk factor for OH1.The 1^st min measurements of OH should be routinely evaluated in frail older adults to prevent OH-related poor outcomes. | Suleyman Emre Kocyigit Pinar Soysal Esra Ates Bulut Ali Ekrem Aydin Ozge Dokuzlar Ahmet Turan Isik | 2019 | Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2019,16,3: | 3 |

| 12 | Pentacam Scheimpflug成像测量晶状体密度与torsional超声乳化参数间的关系(英文)显示文摘目的:评价运用Pentacam Scheimpflug成像测量晶状体核密度与torsinal超声乳化动力学参数(如:运用于老年核性白内障患者的超声能量水平、液体留存时间及液体量)间的关系。方法:此研究为前瞻性双盲研究。瞳孔扩大后运用Pentacam Scheimpflug 成像进行测量。白内障的等级由pentacam核密度测定法[ pentacam nucleus densitometry, PND;又名Pentacam核分段( Pentacam nucleus staging, PNS)软件]自主分为1到5个等级。超声乳化术后,自动在Infiniti Ozil IP超声乳化系统监视器上计算并显示总超声( U/S)时间、累计耗散能、Torsional U/S时间以及估算液体的使用情况。组间差异运用单因素方差分析( ANOVA )进行评定,多组分析运用Tamhane测试法,PND测量的晶状体密度与torsinal超声乳化动力学参数间的关系运用Spearman相关分析进行评定。界定P〈0.05时具有统计学意义。结果:此项研究包括125例患者(125眼),平均年龄为69.7±9.4岁(范围:48~88岁),其中61例男性、64例女性。 U/S总时间、torsional U/S时间、CDE及估算液体使用情况的范围分别为0.70~158.9s,0.70~158.5s,0.11~42.65和21~98mL. | 16 | Protective effects of Rutin against methanol induced acute toxic optic neuropathy:an experimental study显示文摘AIM:To determine the effects of Rutin on methanol induced optic neuropathy and compare the results with the effects of ethanol.METHODS:Totally 30 rats were divided into 5 groups,with 6 rats in each group as follows:healthy controls(C),methotrexate(MTX),methotrexate+methanol(MTM),methotrexate+methanol+ethanol(MTME) and methotrexate+ methanol+Rutin(MTMR).In all rabbits except those of the control group,MTX,diluted in sterile serum physiologic,0.3 mg/kg per oral was applied for 7 d by the aid of a tube.After this procedure to the rats of MTM,MTME and MTMR groups,20% methanol with a dose of 3 g/kg per oral was given by the aid of a tube.In MTME group,4 h after the application of methanol,20% ethanol was applied by the same way with a dose of 0.5 g/kg.On the other hand,in MTMR group 4 h after the application of methanol,Rutin,which was dissolved in distilled water,was applied by the same way with a dose of 50 mg/kg.RESULTS:There were statistically significant differences in tissue 8-hydroxy-2 deoxyguanine(8-OHdG),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),malondialdehyde(MDA),myeloperoxidase(MPO).glutathione peroxidase(t GSH) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) levels between groups(P<0.001).In MTMR group tissue 8-OHdG,IL-1β,MDA,and MPO levels were similar with the healthy controls but significantly different than the other groups.In histopathological evaluations,in MTX group there was moderate focal destruction,hemorrhage and decrease innumber of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTM group there was severe destruction and edema with decrease in number of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTME group there was mild hemorrhage,mild edema,mildly dilated blood vessels with congestion while in MTMR group,optic nerve tissue was resembling the healthy controls.CONCLUSION:Rutin may prevent methanol-induced optic neuropathy via anti-inflammatory effects and decreasing the oxidative stress.New treatment options are warranted in this disease to avoid loss of vision in patients. | Nurdan Gamze Tasli Ferda Keskin Cimen Yücel Karakurt Turgay Ucak Renad Mammadov Bahadir Suleyman Nezahat Kurt Halis Suleyman | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018,11,5: | 2 |
