| 2 | Port site infection in laparoscopic surgery: A review of its management显示文摘Laparoscopic surgery(LS), also termed minimal access surgery, has brought a paradigm shift in the approach to modern surgical care. Early postoperative recovery, less pain, improved aesthesis and early return to work have led to its popularity both amongst surgeons and patients. Its application has progressed from cholecystectomies and appendectomies to various other fields including gastrointestinal surgery, urology, gynecology and oncosurgery. However, LS has its own package of complications. Port site infection(PSI), although infrequent, is one of the bothersome complications which undermine the benefits of minimal invasive surgery. Not only does it add to the morbidity of the patient but also spoils the reputation of the surgeon. Despite the advances in the field of antimicrobial agents, sterilization techniques, surgical techniques, operating room ventilation, PSIs still prevail. The emergence of rapid growing atypical mycobacteria with multidrug resistance, which are the causative organism in most of the cases, has further compounded the problem. PSIs are preventable if appropriate measures are taken preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively. PSIs can often be treated non-surgically, with early identification and appropriate management. Macrolides, quinolones and aminoglycosides antibiotics do show promising activity against the atypical mycobacteria. This review article highlights the clinical burden, presentations and management of PSIs in LS as shared by various authors in the literature. We have given emphasis to atypical mycobacteria, which are emerging as a common etiological agent for PSIs in LS. | 5 | Effect of cation(Li^+, Na^+, K^+, Rb^+, Cs^+) in aqueous electrolyte on the electrochemical redox of Prussian blue analogue(PBA) cathodes显示文摘Prussian blue analogue(PBA)material is a promising cathode for applications in Na-ion and K-ion batteries which can support high c-rates for charge and discharge.In this study,the material of composition[K2 CuIIFeII(CN)6]was synthesized and its structural and electrochemical redox behavior was investigated with 5 different alkali insertion cations(Li^+,Na^+,K^+,Rb^+,Cs^+).Galvanostatic measurements indicate that the redox potential strongly depends on the ionic radius of the inserted cation.The redox potential varies by 400 m V between using Li^+(0.79A)or Cs^+(1.73A)in the electrolyte.The underlying modification of the Fe2^+/Fe3^+redox potential in PBA is proposed to be due to the weakening of the Fe–C bond in the material.This hypothesis is supported by XRD measurements which reveal that the lattice parameter of the de-intercalated host structure follows the same trend of monotonic increase with the cation size.The relatively minor volume changes accompanying the redox(1.2%–2.4%)allow the PBA to accommodate differently sized cations,although the structural hindrances are quite pronounced at high c-rates for the larger ones(Rb^+and Cs^+).Cycle aging studies indicate that the minimum capacity fade rate is observed in case of K^+ and Rb^+ containing electrolyte.The peak intensity corresponding to the[220]crystallographic plane varies depending on the state of charge of PBA,since this plane contains the insertion cations.Owing to the sensitivity of the redox potential to the insertion cation coupled with the observed fast ion-exchange ability,the PBA material may find additional analytical applications such as ion sensing or filtration devices. | Satyajit Phadke Roman Mysyk Meriem Anouti | 2020 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,1: | 2 |

| 10 | Plant-derived secondary metabolites as the main source of efflux pump inhibitors and methods for identification显示文摘The upsurge of multiple drug resistance(MDR)bacteria substantially diminishes the effectiveness of antibiotic arsenal and therefore intensifies the rate of therapeutic failure.The major factor in MDR is efflux pump-mediated resistance.A unique pump can make bacteria withstand a wide range of structurally diverse compounds.Therefore,their inhibition is a promising route to eliminate resistance phenomenon in bacteria.Phytochemicals are excellent alternatives as resistance-modifying agents.They can directly kill bacteria or interact with the crucial events of pathogenicity,thereby decreasing the ability of bacteria to develop resistance.Numerous botanicals display noteworthy efflux pumps inhibitory activities.Edible plants are of growing interest.Likewise,some plant families would be excellent sources of efflux pump inhibitors(EPIs)including Apocynaceae,Berberidaceae,Convolvulaceae,Cucurbitaceae,Fabaceae,Lamiaceae,and Zingiberaceae.Easily applicable methods for screening plant-derived EPIs include checkerboard synergy test,berberine uptake assay and ethidium bromide test.In silico highthroughput virtual detection can be evaluated as a criterion of excluding compounds with efflux substrate-like characteristics,thereby improving the selection process and extending the identification of EPIs.To ascertain the efflux activity inhibition,real-time PCR and quantitative mass spectrometry can be applied.This review emphasizes on efflux pumps and their roles in transmitting bacterial resistance and an update plant-derived EPIs and strategies for identification. | Armel Jackson Seukep Victor Kuete Lutfun Nahar Satyajit DSarker Mingquan Guo | 2020 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2020,10,4: | 1 |
