| 1 | Polymethylmethacrylate bone cements and additives: A review of the literature显示文摘Polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) bone cement technology has progressed from industrial Plexiglass administration in the 1950 s to the recent advent of nanoparticle additives. Additives have been trialed to address problems with modern bone cements such as the loosening of prosthesis, high post-operative infection rates, and inflammatory reduction in interface integrity. This review aims to assess current additives used in PMMA bone cements and offer an insight regarding future directions for this biomaterial. Low index(< 15%) vitamin E and low index(< 5 g) antibiotic impregnated additives significantly address infection and inflammatory problems, with only modest reductions in mechanical strength. Chitosan(15% w/w PMMA) and silver(1% w/w PMMA) nanoparticles have strong antibacterial activity with no significant reduction in mechanical strength. | 2 | Antidiabetic activity of methanolic bark extract of Alhizia odoratissima Benth.in alloxan induced diabetic albino mice显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antidiabetic potential of methanolic extract of Albizia odoratissima Benth.bark in alloxan induced diabetic mice.Methods:Group-Ⅰ(normal control) mice received only basal diet without any treatment.In Group-Ⅱ(Diabetic control) mice,diabetes was induced by alloxan(150 mg/kg i.p.) and received only Tween 80.5%v/v in normal saline. Group-Ⅲand Group-Ⅳmice received metformin(10 mg/kg) and gliclazide(10 mg/kg) as standard drugs.Group-ⅤandⅥmice received methanolic bark extract of Albizia odoratissima at doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight p.o.,respectively.Results:The results of the study indicates that Albizia odoratissima bark extract significantly(P<0.01) reduced the blood sugar level.The bark extract also significantly reduced the levels of serum cholesterol,triglycerides, serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase,serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase,alkaline phosphatase and decreases level of total proteins in alloxan induced diabetic mice.Conclusions: Methanolic extract of Albizia odoratissima has protective effects on the protection of vital tissues(pancreas,kidney,liver,heart and spleen),thereby reducing the causation of diabetes in experimental animals. | Dinesh Kumar Sunil Kumar Sonia Kohli Renu Arya Jyoti Gupta | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011，4，11： | 7 |
| 3 | Comparative investigation of coal-and oil-fired boilers based on emission factors,ozone and secondary organic aerosol formation potentials of VOCs显示文摘Volatile organic compounds(VOCs)are the important precursors of the tropospheric ozone(O3)and secondary organic aerosols(SOA),both of which are known to harm human health and disrupt the earth’s climate system.In this study,VOC emission factors,O3 and SOA formation potentials were estimated for two types of industrial boilers:coal-fired boilers(n=3)and oil-fired boilers(n=3).Results showed that EVOCs concentrations were more than nine times higher for oil-fire d boilers compared to those for coal-fired boilers.Emission factors ofΣVOCs were found to be higher for oil-fired boilers(9.26-32.83 mg-VOC/kg)than for coal-fired boilers(1.57-4.13 mg-VOC/kg).Alkanes and aromatics were obtained as the most abundant groups in coal-fired boilers,while oxygenated organics and aromatics were the most contributing groups in oil-fired boilers.Benzene,n-hexane and o-ethyl toluene were the abundant VOC species in coal-fired boiler emissions,whereas toluene was the most abundant VOC species emitted from oil-fired boilers.O3 and SOA formation potentials were found 12 and 18 times,respectively,higher for oil-fired than for coal-fired boilers.Total OFP ranged from 3.99 to 11.39 mg-O3/kg for coal-fired boilers.For oil-fired boilers,total OFP ranged from 36.16 to 131.93 mg-O3/kg.Moreover,total secondary organic aerosol potential(SOAP)ranged from 65.4 to 122.5 mg-SOA/kg and 779.9 to 2252.5 mg-SOA/kg for the coal-fired and oil-fired boilers,respectively. | Hsi-Hsien Yang Sunil Kumar Gupta Narayan Babu Dhital Lin-Chi Wang Suresh Pandian Elumalai | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2020，32，6： | 6 |
| 4 | Association of NFKB1 gene polymorphism (rs28362491) with levels of inflammatory biomarkers and susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy in Asian Indians显示文摘AIM To investigate the association of NFKB1 gene-94 ATTG insertion/deletion(rs28362491) polymorphism with inflammatory markers and risk of diabetic nephropathy in Asian Indians.METHODS A total of 300 subjects were recruited(100 each), normoglycemic,(NG); type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) without any complications(DM) and T2 DM with diabetic nephropathy [DM-chronic renal disease(CRD)]. Analysis was carried out by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism and ELISA. Pearson's correlation, analysis of variance and logistic regression wereused for statistical analysis.RESULTS The allelic frequencies of-94 ATTG insertion/deletion were 0.655/0.345(NG), 0.62/0.38(DM) and 0.775/0.225(DM-CRD). | 5 | Burning rate and other characteristics of strontium titanate (SrTiO3) supplemented AP/HTPB/Al composite propellants显示文摘In a quest of search for a new burning rate modifier for composite propellant, strontium titanate (SrTiO3), a perovskite oxide has been chosen for evaluation in a composite propellant formulation based on its other catalytic applications. Initially, SrTiO3 was characterized for particle size, morphology and material/ phase identification (using XRD). By varying SrTiO3 content in a standard composite propellant, different compositions were prepared and their performance and processing parameters like the end of mix (EOM) viscosity, mechanical properties, density, burning rate, pressure exponent (n-value), etc. were measured. The results reveal that 2% SrTiO3 causes more than 12% enhancement in propellant burning rate (at 70 ksc pressure) in comparison to the standard propellant composition. | 6 | Multiple bilateral lower limb fractures in a 2-year-old child: previously unreported injury with a unique mechanism显示文摘Fall from height is a common cause of unintentional injuries in children and accounts for 6% of all trauma-related childhood deaths, usually from head injury. We report a case of a 2-year-old child with multiple fractures of the bilateral lower limbs due to this reason. A child fell from a height of around 15 feet after toppling from a balcony. He developed multiple fractures involving the right femoral shaft, right distal femoral epiphysis (Salter Harris type 2), right distal metaphysis of the tibia and fibula, and undisplaced Salter Harris type 2 epiphyseal injury of the left distal tibia. There were no head, abdominal or spinal injuries. The patient was taken into emergency operation theatre after initial management which consisted of intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, and splintage of both lower limbs. Fracture of the femoral shaft was treated by closed reduction and fixation using two titanium elastic nails. Distal femoral physeal injury required open reduction and fixation with K wires. Distal tibia fractures were closely reduced and managed nonoperatively in both the lower limbs. All the fractures united in four weeks. At the last follow-up, the child had no disability and was able to perform daily activities comfortably. | 7 | Formulation and evaluation of novel stomach specific floating microspheres bearing famotidine for treatment of gastric ulcer and their radiographic study显示文摘Objective:To develop and characterize multiple-unit-type oral floating microsphere of famotidine to prolong gastric residence time and to target stomach ulcer.Methods:The floating microspheres were prepared by modified solvent evaporation method,Eudragil S-100 was used as polymer.Microspheres were characterized for the micromeritic properties,floating behavior,entrapment efficiency and scanning electron microscopy.The invitro release studies and floating behavior were studied in simulated gastric fluid at pH 1.2.Different drug release kinetics models were also applied for all the batches.Selected formulations were also subjected for X-ray radiographic study.Results:Floating microspheres were successfully prepared by modified solvent evaporation technique.Microspheres showed passable flow properties.The maximum yield of microspheres was up to(95.11±0.35)%.On the basis of optical microscopy particle size range was found to be ranging from(52.18±182.00) to(91.64±5.16) μm.Scanning electron microscopy showed their spherical size,perforated smooth surface and a cavity inside microspheres.Microspheres were capable to float up to 20 h in simulated gastric fluid.X-ray radiographic studies also proved its better retention in the stomach.Conclusions:On the basis of the results,such dosage forms may be a good candidate for stomach targeting and may be dispensed in hard gelatin capsules. | Rishikesh Gupta Sunil Kumar Prajapati Snigdha Pattnaik Peeyush Bhardwaj | 2014 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014，4，9： | 2 |
