| 3 | Hepatopancreatoduodenectomy for advanced biliary malignancies显示文摘Background:Hepatopancreatoduodenectomy(HPD)has been considered the only curative treatment for metastatic cholangiocarcinoma and some locally advanced gallbladder cancers(GBCs).However,HPD has not yet been included in treatment guidelines as a standard surgical procedure in consideration of its morbidity and mortality rates.The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of HPD in treating biliary malignancies.Methods:The medical records of 57 patients with advanced biliary cancer undergoing HPD from January 2009 to December 2019 were retrospectively retrieved.A case-control analysis was conducted at our department.Patients with advanced GBC who underwent HPD(HPD-GBC group)were compared with a control group(None-HPD-GBC group).Baseline characteristics,preoperative treatments,tumor pathologic features,operative results,and prognosis were assessed.Results:Thirteen patients with cholangiocarcinoma and 44 patients with GBC underwent HPD at our department.Significant postoperative complications(grade III or greater)and postoperative pancreatic fistula were observed in 24(42.1%)and 15(26.3%)patients,respectively.One postoperative death occurred in the present study.Overall survival(OS)was longer in patients with advanced cholangiocarcinoma than in those with GBC(median survival time[MST],31 months vs.11 months;P<0.001).In the subgroup analysis of patients with advanced GBC,multivariate analysis demonstrated that T4 stage tumors(P=0.012),N2 tumors(P=0.001),and positive margin status(P=0.004)were independently associated with poorer OS.Patients with either one or more prognostic factors exhibited a shorter MST than patients without those prognostic factors(P<0.001).Conclusion:HPD could be performed with a relatively low mortality rate and an acceptable morbidity rate in an experienced highvolume center.For patients with advanced GBC without an N2 or T4 tumor,HPD can be a preferable treatment option. | Xiangsong Wu Maolan Li Wenguang Wu Xu’an Wang Huaifeng Li Runfa Bao Yijun Shu Jun Shen Jun Gu Xuefeng Wang Wei Gong Shuyou Peng Yingbin Liu | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,135,23: | 3 |
| 4 | Homeobox B8 Targets Sterile Alpha Motif Domain-Containing Protein 9 and Drives Glioma Progression显示文摘Gliomas are the most commonly occurring tumors of the central nervous system. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most malignant and aggressive brain cancer in adults. Further understanding of the mechanisms underlying the aggressive nature of GBM is urgently needed. Here we identified homeobox B8(HOXB8), a member of the homeobox family, as a crucial contributor to the aggressiveness of GBM. Data mining of publicly accessible RNA sequence datasets and our patient cohorts confirmed a higher expression of HOXB8 in the tumor tissue of GBM patients, and a strong positive correlation between the expression level and pathological grading of tumors and a negative correlation between the expression level and the overall survival rate. We next showed that HOXB8 promotes the proliferation and migration of glioblastoma cells and is crucial for the activation of the PI3K/AKT pathway and expression of epithelial–mesenchymal transition-related genes, possibly through direct binding to the promoter of SAMD9 (Sterile Alpha Motif Domain-Containing Protein 9) and activating its transcription. | 5 | Point-defect engineering of nanoporous CuBi_(2)O_(4) photocathode via rapid thermal processing for enhanced photoelectrochemical activity显示文摘Engineering point defects such as metal and oxygen vacancies play a crucial role in manipulating the electrical,optical,and catalytic properties of oxide semiconductors for solar water splitting.Herein,we synthesized nanoporous CuBi_(2)O_(4)(np-CBO)photocathodes and engineered their surface point defects via rapid thermal processing(RTP)in controlled atmospheres(O_(2),N_(2),and vacuum).We found that the O_(2)-RTP treatment of np-CBO increased the charge carrier density effectively without hampering the nanoporous morphology,which was attributed to the formation of copper vacancies(VCu).Further analyses revealed that the amounts of oxygen vacancies(Vo)and Cu^(1+)were reduced simultaneously,and the relative electrochemical active surface area increased after the O_(2)-RTP treatment.Notably,the point defects(VC_(u),Cu^(1+),and Vo)regulated np-CBO achieved a superb water-splitting photocurrent density of-1.81 m A cm^(-2) under simulated sunlight illumination,which is attributed to the enhanced charge transport and transfer properties resulting from the regulated surface point defects.Finally,the reversibility of the formation of the point defects was checked by sequential RTP treatments(O_(2)-N_(2)-O_(2)-N_(2)),demonstrating the strong dependence of photocurrent response on the RTP cycles.Conclusively,the surface point defect engineering via RTP treatment in a controlled atmosphere is a rapid and facile strategy to promote charge transport and transfer properties of photoelectrodes for efficient solar water-splitting. | Li Qu Runfa Tan Arumugam Sivanantham Min Je Kang Yoo Jae Jeong Dong Hyun Seo Sungkyu Kim In Sun Cho | 2022 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,8: | 1 |

New, test functions are constructed by using this method. These test functions are composed of specific activation functions of single-layer model,specific activation functions of '2-2' model and arbitrary functions of '2-2-3' model. By means of the BNNM, nineteen sets of exact analytical solutions and twenty-four arbitrary function solutions of the dimensionally reduced p-gB KP equation are obtained via symbolic computation with the help of Maple. The fractal solitons waves are obtained by choosing appropriate values and the self-similar characteristics of these waves are observed by reducing the observation range and amplifying the partial picture. By giving a specific activation function in the single layer neural network model, exact periodic waves and breathers are obtained. | 9 | Idiopathic and radiation-induced myxofibrosarcoma in the head and neck—case report and literature review显示文摘Background:Myxofibrosarcoma(MFS),especially radiation-Induced MFS(RIMFS)in the head and neck,is an extremely rare malignant fibroblastic tumor.The diagnosis and treatment of MFS remain great challenges.In the present study,we presented one case of RIMFS.Combined with previous literature,the clinical features,essentials of diagnosis,and treatment modalities of MFS in the head and neck were reviewed to better understand this rare entity.Case presentation:We reported a case of RIMFS under the left occipital scalp in a 20-year-old girl with a history of medulloblastoma surgery and radiotherapy in 2006.A total tumor resection was performed with preservation of the overlying scalp the underlying bone,and no adjuvant therapy was administered after the first operation.The postoperative pathological diagnosis was high-grade MFS.The tumor relapsed 6 months later,and then,a planned extensive resection with negative surgical margins was carried out,followed by radiotherapy.No relapse occurred in a 12-month postoperative follow-up.Conclusions:Planned gross total resection(GTR)with negative margins is the reasonable choice and footstone of other treatments for MFS.Ill-defined infiltrated borders and the complicated structures make it a great trouble to achieve total resection of MFS in the head and neck,so adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy seem more necessary for these lesions. | Bin Zhang Miao Bai Runfa Tian Shuyu Hao | 2022 | Chinese Neurosurgical Journal2022,8,2: | 0 |
| 10 | Defect-rich spinel ferrites with improved charge collection properties for efficient solar water splitting显示文摘Spinel zinc ferrite(ZnFe_(2)O_(4),ZFO)is a potential photoanode material for photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting because of its ideal bandgap(1.9–2.1 eV)and superior chemical stability in aqueous solutions.However,the low charge collection efficiency significantly hinders the improvement in PEC activity.Herein,we report an ultrafast and effective flame activation route to enhance the charge collection properties of ZFO.First,high-temperature flame(>1300℃)facilitated surface and grain boundary diffusions,increasing the grain size and connectivity of the ZFO nanoparticles.Second,the reducing atmosphere of the flame enabled the formation of surface defects(oxygen vacancy and Fe^(2+)),thereby increasing the charge carrier density and surface adsorption sites.Significantly,these two factors promoted charge transport and transfer kinetics,resulting in a 10-fold increase in the photocurrent density over the unactivated ZFO.Furthermore,we deposited a thin Al_(2)O_(3)overlayer to passivate the ZFO surface and then the NiFeOx oxygen evolution catalyst(OEC)to expedite hole injection into the electrolyte.This surface passivation and OEC deposition led to a remarkable photocurrent density of~1 mA/cm^(2)at 1.23 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode,which is the highest value among all reported ZFO photoanodes.Notably,the NiFeOx/Al_(2)O_(3)/F-ZFO photoanode achieved excellent photocurrent stability over 55 h(96%retention)and superior faradaic efficiency(FE>94%).Our flame activation method is also effective in improving the photocurrent densities of other spinel ferrites:CuFe_(2)O_(4)(93 times),MgFe_(2)O_(4)(16 times),and NiFe_(2)O_(4)(12 times). | Runfa Tan Yoo Jae Jeong Qu Li Minje Kang In Sun Cho | 2023 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2023,12,3: | 0 |
