1Comparison of perceived pain and patients’ satisfaction with traditional local anesthesia and single tooth anesthesia: A randomized clinical trial显示文摘BACKGROUND Contemporary innovations in the area of local anesthesia have attempted to provide an absolutely pain free experience for patients.Since the introduction of Computer-Controlled Local Anesthetic Delivery Systems to dentistry, many studies have compared its efficacy and safety to conventional anesthesia. However, very few studies have compared single tooth anesthesia(STA)and traditional local anesthesia.AIM To compare pain rating, changes in blood pressure, and heart rate during the local anesthetic injection. The secondary objectives were to measure the patients’level of satisfaction and the differences in anesthetic efficiency between the STA system and traditional local infiltration.METHODS A randomized controlled trial was conducted and a total of 80 patients with dental restorative needs were enrolled for the study. The patients were evaluated for their general physical status and oral clinical findings before enrollment.Information regarding perceived pain, changes in heart rate and blood pressure, and patients’satisfaction was collected using an electronic data form and was analyzed using paired and unpaired t-tests.RESULTS No significant difference was noted in perceived pain(P=0.59)and systolic blood pressure(P=0.09)during anesthetic injection using both traditional and STA techniques.STA patients had a significantly higher heart rate during anesthesia, although a statistically significant difference was noted among the traditional anesthesia and the STA groups even before anesthesia.During the restorative procedure, less pain was perceived by STA patients on the Wong-Baker FACES pain scale, which was statistically significant(P<0.001).Analyses of post-procedure patient responses showed that STA patients had a significantly better treatment experience and preferred to have the same method of injection in the future(P=0.04).CONCLUSION STA system can provide less painful and more comfortable restorative treatment procedures in comparison to the traditional infiltration technique.Mohammad I Al-Obaida Mehdiya Haider Rawan Hashim Wafa AlGheriri Sree Lalita Celur Samar A Al-Saleh Ebtissam M Al-Madi 2019World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,19:8
2Three-dimensional Localization of Impacted Canines and Root Resorption Assessment Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography显示文摘The purpose of this study was to develop a new way to localize the impacted canines from three dimensions and to investigate the root resorption of the adjacent teeth by using cone beam computed tomography(CBCT). Forty-six patients undergoing orthodontic treatments and having impacted canines in Tongji Hospital were examined. The images of CBCT scans were obtained from KaVo 3D exam vision. Angular and linear measurements of the cusp tip and root apex according to the three planes(mid-sagittal, occlusal and frontal) have been taken using the cephalometric tool of the InVivo Dental Anatomage Version 5.1.10. The measurements of the angular and linear coordinates of the maxillary and mandibular canines were obtained. Using this technique the operators could envision the location of the impacted canine according to the three clinical planes. Adjacent teeth root resorption of 28.26 % was in the upper lateral incisors while 17.39% in upper central incisors, but no lower root resorption was found in our samples. Accurate and reliable localization of the impacted canines could be obtained from the novel analysis system, which offers a better surgical and orthodontic treatment for the patients with impacted canines.Eyad Almuhtaseb 毛靖 Derek Mahony Rawan Bader 张智星 2014Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology(Medical Sciences)2014,34,3:5
3Play therapy in children with autism:Its role, implications, and limitations显示文摘Play is a pleasurable physical or mental activity that enhances the child’s skills involving negotiation abilities,problem-solving,manual dexterity,sharing,decision-making,and working in a group.Play affects all the brain's areas, structures, and functions.Children with autism have adaptive behavior, adaptive response, and social interaction limitations. This review explores the different applications of play therapy in helping children with autism disorder.Play is usually significantly impaired in children with autism.Play therapy is mainly intended to help children to honor their unique mental abilities and developmental levels. The main aim of play therapy is to prevent or solve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal child-healthy growth and development.Play therapy helps children with autism to engage in play activities of their interest and choice to express themselves in the most comfortable ways.It changes their way of self-expression from unwanted behaviors to more non-injurious expressive behavior using toys or activities of their choice as their words.Play therapy also helps those children to experience feeling out various interaction styles.Every child with autism is unique and responds differently. Therefore, different types of intervention, like play therapy, could fit the differences in children with autism.Proper evaluation of the child is mandatory to evaluate which type fits the child more than the others. This narrative review revised the different types of play therapy that could fit children with autism in an evidence-based way.Despite weak evidence, play therapy still has potential benefits for patients and their families.Reem Elbeltagi Mohammed Al-Beltagi Nermin Kamal Saeed Rawan Alhawamdeh 2023World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2023,12,1:3
4Application of AHP and a mathematical index to estimate livability in tourist districts:The case of Al Qasba in Sharjah显示文摘Urban planners must ensure that urban public spaces are enjoyable to use to create a lively city that expresses their culture and traditions and welcomes social diversity. This study aims to develop a theoretical index for assessing the livability levels in tourist districts. Therefore,a survey-based study accompanied by a literature review is used to derive criteria for livability. In addition to using the analytic hierarchy process to develop an importa ncebased hierarchy of criteria, mathematical analysis is applied to derive the livability index.Furthermore, one of Sharjah's well-known public spaces,Al Qasba Tourist District,is assessed as a case study. This study discussed the main concepts and factors of livability in urban public spaces to examine the livable extent of Qasba and the significanee of criteria. Results show that the current livability level in Al Qasba is less than 50%,confirming its urgent need for further urban improvement. This study explores the livability assessment criteria and their influencing parameters.Using the suggested conceptual livability in dexen ables decision makers to assess the livability level, analyze the in fluencing factors, and suggest solutions to improve the overall livability levels of open public spaces.Emad Mushtaha Imad Alsyouf Luai Al Labadl Rawan Hamad Noor Khatib Maitha Al Mutawa 2020Frontiers of Architectural Research2020,9,4:2
5Cyanidin 3-glucoside modulated cell cycle progression in liver precancerous lesion,in vivo study显示文摘BACKGROUND Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside(cyan)exhibits antioxidant and anticancer properties. The cell cycle proteins and antimitotic drugs might be promising therapeutic targets in hepatocellular carcinoma.AIM To investigate the effect of cyan administration on cell cycle in hepatic precancerous lesion(PCL)induced by diethylnitrosamine/2-acetylaminofluorene(DEN/2-AAF)in Wistar rats.METHODS In vivo,DEN/2-AAF-induced hepatic PCL,rats were treated with three doses of cyan(10,15,and 20 mg/kg/d,for four consecutive days per week for 16 wk).Blood and liver tissue samples were collected for measurement of the followings;alpha fetoprotein(AFP)liver function and RNA panel differential expression was evaluated via real time polymerase chain reaction.Histopathological examination of liver sections stained with H&E and immunohistochemical study using glutathione S-transferase placental(GSTP)and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)antibodies were assessed.RESULTS Cyan administration mitigated the effect of DEN/2-AFF induced PCL,decreased AFP levels, and improved liver function.Remarkably, treatment with cyan dose dependently decreased the long non-coding RNA MALAT1 and tubulin gamma 1 mRNA expressions and increased the levels of miR-125b,all of which are involved in cell cycle and mitotic spindle assembly.Of note, cyan decreased GSTP foci percent area and PCNA positively stained nuclei.CONCLUSION Our results indicated that cyan could be used as a potential therapeutic agent to inhibit liver carcinogenesis in rat model via modulation of cell cycle.Marwa Matboli Amany H Hasanin Reham Hussein Sarah El-Nakeep Eman K Habib Rawan Ellackany Lobna A Saleh 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,14:1

12Clostridioides difficile infection in liver cirrhosis patients: A population-based study in United States显示文摘BACKGROUND Clostridioides(formerly Clostridium)difficile infection(CDI)is an increasingly frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients.Multiple risk factors are documented in the literature that includes, but are not limited to,antibiotics use, advanced age,and gastric acid suppression.Several epidemiological studies have reported an increased incidence of CDI in advanced liver disease patients. Some have also demonstrated a higher prevalence of nosocomial infections in cirrhotic patients.AIM To use a large nationwide database,we sought to determine CDI’s risk among liver cirrhosis patients in the United States.METHODS We queried a commercial database(Explorys Inc^(TM),Cleveland,OH,United States),and obtained an aggregate of electronic health record data from 26 major integrated United States healthcare systems comprising 360 hospitals in the United States from 2018 to 2021.Diagnoses were organized into the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms(SNOMED–CT)hierarchy.Statistical analysis for the multivariable model was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS version 25,IBM CorpTM).For all analyses,a two-sided P value of<0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS There were a total of 19387760 patients in the database who were above 20 years of age between the years 2018-2021.Of those,133400 were diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. The prevalence of CDI amongst the liver cirrhosis population was 134.93 per 100.000 vs 19.06 per 100.000 in non-cirrhotic patients(P<0.0001).The multivariate analysis model uncovered that cirrhotic patients were more likely to develop CDI(OR:1.857;95%CI:1.665-2.113,P<0.0001)compared to those without any prior history of liver cirrhosis.CONCLUSION In this large database study,we uncovered that cirrhotic patients have a significantly higher CDI prevalence than those without cirrhosis.Liver cirrhosis may be an independent risk factor for CDI.Further prospective studies are needed to clarify this possible risk association that may lead to the implementation of screening methods in this high-risk population.Syeda Sahra Mohammad Abureesh Shivantha Amamath Motasem Alkhayyat Rawan Badran Abdullah Jahangir Vivek Gumaste 2021World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,8:1

16Soil organic matter amendments in date palm groves of the Middle Eastern and North African region:a mini-review显示文摘Countries in the Middle Eastern and North African(MENA) region are among the most water-scarce regions in the world, and their dryland soils are usually poor in organic carbon content(<0.5%). In this study, we summarize examples of how people in the few oases of the MENA region overcome environmental challenges by sustainably managing economically important date production. On the basis of the limited studies found in the existing literature, this mini-review focuses on the role of traditional soil organic matter amendments beneath the soil surface as a key tool in land restoration. We conclude that soil organic matter amendments can be very successful in restoring soil water and preventing the soil from salinization.Rawan MLIH Roland BOL Wulf AMELUNG Nadhem BRAHIM 2016Journal of Arid Land2016,8,1:1
