1Effects of slope gradient on runoff from bare-fallow purple soil in China under natural rainfall conditions显示文摘Purple soil is highly susceptible for overland flow and surface erosion, therefore understanding surface runoff and soil erosion processes in the purple soil region are important to mitigate flooding and erosion hazards. Slope angle is an important parameter that affects the magnitude of runoff and thus surface erosion in hilly landscapes or bare land area. However, the effect of slope on runoff generation remains unclear in many different soils including Chinese purple soil. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between different slope gradients and surface runoff for bare-fallow purple soil, using 5 m × 1.5 m experimental plots under natural rainfall conditions. Four experimental plots(10°, 16°, 20° and 26°) were established in theYanting Agro-ecological Experimental Station of Chinese Academy of Science in central Sichuan Basin. The plot was equipped with water storage tank to monitor water level change. Field monitoring from July 1 to October 31, 2012 observed 42 rainfall events which produced surface runoff from the experimental plots. These water level changes were converted to runoff. The representative eight rainfall events were selected for further analysis, the relationship between slope and runoff coefficient were determined using ANOVA, F-test, and z-score analysis. The results indicated a strong correlation between rainfall and runoff in cumulative amount basis. The mean value of the measured runoff coefficient for four experimental plots was around 0.1. However, no statistically significant relationship was found between slope and runoff coefficient. We reviewed the relationship between slope and runoff in many previous studiesand calculated z-score to compare with our experimental results. 3Electrical conductivity of wood biochar monoliths and its dependence on pyrolysis temperature显示文摘Biochar is traditionally used as solid fuel and for soil amendment where its electrical conductivity is largely irrelevant and unexplored.However,electrical conductivity is critical to biochar’s performance in new applications such as supercapacitor energy storage and capacitive deionization of water.In this study,sugar maple and white pine were carbonized via a slow pyrolysis process at 600,800 and 1000°C and conductivities of monolithic biochar samples along the radial direction were measured using the 4-probe method.Biochars were characterized using an elemental analyzer,scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy.The solid carbon in biochar samples was found to consist primarily of disordered carbon atoms with small graphitic nanocrystallites that grow with increasing temperature.The bulk conductivity of biochar was found to increase with pyrolysis temperature-1 to~1000 S/m for maple and 1 to~350 S/m for pine,which was accompanied by an increase in carbon content-91 to 97 wt%and 90 to 96 wt%for maple and pine,respectively.The skeletal conductivity of biochar samples carbonized at 1000°C is about 3300 S/m and 2300 S/m for maple and pine,respectively(assuming solid carbon is amorphous);both values are above that of amorphous carbon(1250-2000 S/m).This work demonstrated the importance of carbonization and graphitization to electrical conductivity and suggested electron hopping as a likely mechanism for electric conduction in biochar-an amorphous carbon matrix embedded with graphitic nanocrystallites.Randeep Gabhi Luca Basile Donald W.Kirk Mauro Giorcelli Alberto Tagliaferro Charles Q.Jia 2020Biochar2020,2,3:4

18Apatite formation and weight loss study in EDMed perforated AZ31 Mg-alloy显示文摘Porous structures are highly preferred for bone regeneration and high tissue in-growth.In present work,electrical discharge drilling(EDD),a thermal erosion process was used to produce through holes in Mg-alloys to fabricate perforated structure similar to open cell porous structure in extruded AZ31.Apatite formation and weight loss study was conducted for 7 days,14 days and 21 days after immersion tests in SBF solution.The perforated structure in AZ31 with 26 through micro-holes provides 72%increase in surface area but with marginally 4%higher weight loss as compare to non-perforated structure.Comparing perforated and non-perforated samples of Mg-alloy,it was well observed that perforated structure forms high volume of apatite as compared to non-perforated structure.Scanning electron microscopic(SEM)study revealed that in perforated structure,drilled holes retain their circularity after 21 days of immersion test and distinct corrosion phenomenon occur at localized sites.Randeep Singh Gill Kamal Kumar Uma Batra 2017Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2017,5,3:1
