| 1 | Sodium Stress in the Halophyte Thellungiella halophila and Transcriptional Changes in a thsos1-RNA Interference Line显示文摘The plasma membrane Na^+/H^+-antiporter salt overly sensitive1(SOS1)from the halophytic Arabidopsis-relative Thel-lungiella halophila(ThSOS1)shows conserved sequence and domain structure with the orthologous genes fromArabidopsis thaliana and other plants.When expression of ThSOS1 was reduced by RNA interference(RNAi),pronouncedcharacteristics of salt-sensitivity were observed.We were interested in monitoring altered transcriptional responsesbetween Thellungiella wild type and thsosl-4,a representative RNAi line with particular emphasis on root responses to saltstress at 350 mmol/L NaCl,a concentration that is only moderately stressful for mature wild type plants.Transcript profilingrevealed several functional categories of genes that were differently affected in wild-type and RNAi plants.Down-regulationof SOS1 resulted in different gene expression even in the absence of stress.The pattern of gene induction in the RNAi plantunder salt stress was similar to that of glycophytic Arabidopsis rather than that of wild type Thellungiella.The RNAi plantsfailed to down-regulate functions that are normally reduced in wild type Thellungiella upon stress and did not up-regulatefunctions that characterize the Thellungiella salt stress response.Metabolite changes observed in wild type Thellungiellaafter salt stress were less pronounced or absent in RNAi plants.Transcript and metabolite behavior suggested SOS1functions including but also extending its established function as a sodium transporter.The down-regulation of ThSOS1converted the halophyte Thellungiella into a salt-sensitive plant. | Dong-Ha Oh Qingqiu Gong Alex Ulanov Quan Zhang Youzhi Li Wenying Ma Dae-Jin Yun Ray A. | 3 | Association of erectile dysfunction with depression in patients with chronic viral hepatitis显示文摘AIM: To investigate the prevalence of erectile dysfunction(ED) and its association with depression in patients with chronic viral hepatitis.METHODS: This single center cross-sectional study was conducted from August 2013 through January 2014. All outpatients with chronic viral hepatitis in our liver clinic between 18 and 80 years of age were considered eligible for this study. The exclusion criteria included well-established causes of ED, such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, alcohol abuse, liver cirrhosis, ischemic heart disease, renal disease, neurologic disease, and malignancy. We also excluded the patients who had incompletely answered the questionnaires. ED was assessed using the validated Korean version of the International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5) scale. The Korean version of the self-administered Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) scale was used to assess depression in the patients. Demographic and medical data were obtained from the patients' medical records. Current or past history of psychiatric diagnosis and drug history including the use of an antiviral agent and an antidepressant were also recorded. RESULTS: A total of 727 patients met the initial eligibility criteria. Six hundred seventeen patients were excluded because their medical records contained one or more of the previously determined exclusion criteria. The remaining 110 patients were assessed based on the BDI and IIEF-5 questionnaires. Based on the IIEF-5 scale, the prevalence of ED among patients with chronic viral hepatitis was 40%. Compared with the non-ED group, patients in the ED group were older. The proportion of patients in the ED group who had a job or who were na?ve peg-interferon users was lower than that in patients in the non-ED group. Patients with ED had significantly lower scores on the IIEF-5 scale than patients without ED(11.75 ± 4.88 vs 21.33 ± 1.86, P = 0.000). Patients with ED rated significantly higher scores on the BDI scale compared with patients without ED(12.59 ± 7.08 vs 5.30 ± 4.00, P = 0.000). Also, the IIEF-5 scores were negatively correlated with age, employment, and BDI scores. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, age and depression were independently associated with erectile dysfunction(P =0.019 and 0.000,respectively).CONCLUSION:Patients with chronic viral hepatitis have a high prevalence of ED.Age and depression are independent factors for ED in male patients with chronic viral hepatitis. | Bong Oh Ma Sang Goon Shim Hae Jin Yang | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015，21，18： | 6 |

| 7 | Nociceptive behavioural assessments in mouse models of temporomandibular joint disorders显示文摘Orofacial pain or tenderness is a primary symptom associated with temporomandibular joint(TMJ)disorders(TMDs).To understand the pathological mechanisms underlying TMDs,several mouse models have been developed,including mechanical stimulus-induced TMD and genetic mouse models.However,a lack of feasible approaches for assessing TMD-related nociceptive behaviours in the orofacial region of mice has hindered the in-depth study of TMD-associated mechanisms.This study aimed to explore modifications of three existing methods to analyse nociceptive behaviours using two TMD mouse models:(1)mechanical allodynia was tested using von Frey filaments in the mouse TMJ region by placing mice in specially designed chambers;(2)bite force was measured using the Economical Load and Force(ELF)system;and(3)spontaneous feeding behaviour tests,including eating duration and frequency,were analysed using the Laboratory Animal Behaviour Observation Registration and Analysis System(LABORAS).We successfully assessed changes in nociceptive behaviours in two TMD mouse models,a unilateral anterior crossbite(UAC)-induced TMD mouse model and aβ-catenin conditional activation mouse model.We found that the UAC model andβ-catenin conditional activation mouse model were significantly associated with signs of increased mechanical allodynia,lower bite force,and decreased spontaneous feeding behaviour,indicating manifestations of TMD.These behavioural changes were consistent with the cartilage degradation phenotype observed in these mouse models.Our studies have shown reliable methods to analyse nociceptive behaviours in mice and may indicate that these methods are valid to assess signs of TMD in mice. | Jun Li Kaige Ma Dan Yi Chun-do Oh Di Chen | 2020 | International Journal of Oral Science2020，12，3： | 2 |
