| 1 | Naringenin reduces lung metastasis in a breast cancer resection model显示文摘Metastasis is the main cause of death in cancer patients. To improve the outcomes of patients undergoing a surgery, new adjuvant therapies that can effectively inhibit metastases have to be developed. Studies have shown that flavonoid naringenin, a natural product that is mainly present in grapes and citrus, may contribute to cancer prevention. It has many advantages compared to traditional chemotherapeutic drugs, such as low toxicity. To determine whether naringenin can also inhibit metastases, a breast cancer resection model that mimics clinical situations was established. We found that orally administered naringenin significantly decreased the number of metastatic tumor cells in the lung and extended the life span of tumor resected mice. Flow cytometry analysis revealed that T cells displayed enhanced antitumor activity in naringenin treated mice, with an increased proportion of IFN-γ and IL-2 expressing T cells. In vitro studies further demonstrated that relief of immunosuppression caused by regulatory T cells might be the fundamental mechanism of metastasis inhibition by naringenin. These results indicate that orally administered naringenin can inhibit the outgrowth of metastases after surgery via regulating host immunity. | 3 | Accuracy of three-dimensional seismic ground response analysis in time domain using nonlinear numerical simulations显示文摘To provide appropriate uses of nonlinear ground response analysis for engineering practice, a three-dimensional soil column with a distributed mass system and a time domain numerical analysis were implemented on the Open Sees simulation platform. The standard mesh of a three-dimensional soil column was suggested to be satisfied with the specified maximum frequency. The layered soil column was divided into multiple sub-soils with a different viscous damping matrix according to the shear velocities as the soil properties were significantly different. It was necessary to use a combination of other one-dimensional or three-dimensional nonlinear seismic ground analysis programs to confirm the applicability of nonlinear seismic ground motion response analysis procedures in soft soil or for strong earthquakes. The accuracy of the three-dimensional soil column finite element method was verified by dynamic centrifuge model testing under different peak accelerations of the earthquake. As a result, nonlinear seismic ground motion response analysis procedures were improved in this study. | 4 | Vitamin C induces periodontal ligament progenitor cell differentiation via activation of ERK pathway mediated by PELP1显示文摘The differentiation of periodontal ligament(PDL)progenitor cells is important for maintaining the homeostasis of PDL tissue and alveolar bone.Vitamin C(VC),a water-soluble nutrient that cannot be biosynthesized by humans,is vital for mesenchymal stem cells differentiation and plays an important role in bone remodeling.Therefore,the objective of this study was to determine the function and mechanism of VC in PDL progenitor cells osteogenic differentiation at the molecular level.We demonstrated that VC could induce the osteogenic differentiation and maturation of PDL progenitor cell without other osteogenic agents.During the process,VC preferentially activated ERK1/2 but did not affect JNK or p38.Co-treatment with ERK inhibitor effectively decreased the Vitamin C-induced expression of Runx2.ERK inhibitor also abrogated Vitamin C-induced the minimized nodules formation.PELP1,a nuclear receptor co-regulator,was up-regulated under VC treatment.PELP1 knockdown inhibited ERK phosphorylation.The overexpression of PELP1 had a positive relationship with Runx2 expression.Taken together,we could make a conclude that VC induces the osteogenic differentiation of PDL progenitor cells via PELP1-ERK axis.Our fi nding implies that VC may have a potential in the regeneration medicine and application to periodontitis treatment. | Yan Yan Wenfeng Zeng Shujun Song Fayun Zhang Wenxi He Wei Liang Zhongying Niu | 2013 | Protein & Cell2013,4,8: | 6 |
| 5 | Carrier dynamic overlapping switching frequency optimal pulse width modulation method for modular multilevel converters显示文摘Modular multilevel converters(MMCs) operate in the low modulation index region in many applications.However, when utilized at the low modulation index region, large harmonics appear in the output voltage, which degrade the performance of the MMC. To improve the harmonic characteristic in the low modulation index, the carrier dynamic overlapping switching frequency optimal pulse width modulation(CDOSFOPWM) method is proposed for the MMC here. The whole modulation index region is divided into three regions: high modulation index region, middle modulation index region, and low modulation index region. The carrier amplitude, carrier overlap ratio, and frequency of triangular carriers are chosen dynamically according to the modulation index region of the modulation signals, to achieve the optimal harmonic characteristic in the whole modulation index region and maintain the switching loss. The number of on-state submodules(SMs) can be calculated by CDOSFOPWM, and the selection of SMs is performed by a reducing switching frequency voltage balancing algorithm. | 6 | 3D macropore carbon-vacancy g-C_(3)N_(4) constructed using polymethylmethacrylate spheres for enhanced photocatalytic H_(2) evolution and CO_(2) reduction显示文摘Metal-free g-C_3N_4 is widely used in photocatalytic reactions owing to its suitable band structure.However, it has low specific surface area and insufficient absorbance for visible light, and its photoexcited carriers have high recombination rates. In this study, the 3 D macropore C-vacancy g-C_3N_4 was prepared through a facile one-step route. Polymethylmethacrylate is used as a template to increase the surface reaction sites of g-C_3N_4 and extend its visible-light range. Compared to unmodified g-C_3N_4, the H2 production and CO_2 reduction rates of the fabricated g-C_3N_4 significantly improved. The special pore structure significantly improved the light utilization efficiency of g-C_3N_4 and increased the number of surface-active sites. The introduction of C-vacancy extended the absorption band of visible-light and suppressed the carrier recombination. | 12 | Entropy-Based Global and Local Weight Adaptive Image Segmentation Models显示文摘This paper proposes a parameter adaptive hybrid model for image segmentation. The hybrid model combines the global and local information in an image, and provides an automated solution for adjusting the selection of the two weight parameters. Firstly, it combines an improved local model with the global Chan-Vese(CV) model, while the image’s local entropy is used to establish the index for measuring the image’s gray-level information. Parameter adjustment is then performed by the real-time acquisition of the ratio of the different functional energy in a self-adapting model responsive to gray-scale distribution in the image segmentation process.Compared with the traditional linear adjustment model, which is based on trial-and-error, this paper presents a more quantitative and intelligent method for achieving the dynamic nonlinear adjustment of global and local terms.Experiments show that the proposed model achieves fast and accurate segmentation for different types of noisy and non-uniform grayscale images and noise images.
