2Effect of Die Wall Lubrication on Warm Compaction Powder Metallurgy显示文摘Die wall lubrication was applied on warm compaction powder metallurgy in hope to reduce the concentration level of the admixed lubricant since lubricant is harmful to the mechanical property of the sintered materials. Iron-based samples were prepared by die wall lubricated warm compaction at 135 ℃ and 175 ℃, using polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) emulsion as die wall lubricant. A compacting pressure of 700 MPa and 550 MPa were used. The admixed lubricant concentration ranging from 0 to 0.6 wt.% was used in this study. Compared with non-die wall lubricated samples, the die wall lubricated samples have higher green densities. Results show that in addition to the decrease in ejection forces, green density of the compacts increased linearly with the decrease in admixed lubricant content. Mechanical property of the sintered compacts increase sharply when the admixed lubricant concentration reduced to 0.125 wt.% or less. Ejection force data indicated that samples with die wall lubrication show lower ejection forces when compared with samples without die wall lubrication. No scoring was observed in all experiments even for samples contain no admixed lubricant. Our results indicated that under experimental condition used in this study, no matter at which compaction pressure, compaction temperature, graphite and lubricant contents in the powder the die wall lubricated warm compaction would give the highest green density and lowest ejection force. It can be concluded that combination of die wall lubrication and warm compaction can provide P/M products with higher density and better quality. 3Evidence-based medicine and precision medicine:complementary approaches to clinical decision-making显示文摘Evidence-based medicine is widely promoted for decision-making in health care and is associated with improved patient outcomes.Critics have suggested that evidence-based medicine focuses primarily on groups of patients rather than individuals,but often fail to consider subgroup analyses,N-of-1 trials,and the incorporation of patient values and preferences.Precision medicine has been promoted as an approach to individualize diagnosis and treatment of diseases through genetic,biomarker,phenotypic,and psychosocial characteristics.However,there are often high costs associated with personalized medicine,and high-quality evidence is lacking for effectiveness in many applications.For the potential of personalized medicine to be realized,it must adhere to the principles of evidencebased medicine:(1)evidence in isolation is not sufficient to make clinical decisions—patient’s values and preferences as well as resource implications must be considered,and(2)there is a hierarchy of evidence to guide clinical decision-making and studies at lower risk of bias are likely to provide more trustworthy findings.Ngai Chow Lucas Gallo Jason W.Busse 2018Precision Clinical Medicine2018,1,2:10
4Efficacy of small-volume simethicone given at least 30 min before gastroscopy显示文摘AIM To evaluate the efficacy of 5 m L simethicone solution in decreasing gastric foam if given at least 30 min before gastroscopy.METHODS This was a randomized, placebo controlled, endoscopist blinded study performed at Changi General Hospital. Patients were at least 21 years old, had no prior sur-gical resection of the upper gastrointestinal tract, and scheduled for elective diagnostic gastroscopies. The primary outcome was the total mucosal visibility score(TMVS) which was evaluated using Mc Nally score. The sample size was calculated to be 24 per group(SD 2.4, 80% power, P < 0.05, 2-sample t test). RESULTS Fifty-four patients were randomised to receive either simethicone [1 m L liquid simethicone(100 mg) in 5 m L of water] or placebo(5 m L of water) at least 30 min before their gastroscopy. Six accredited consultants conductedthe gastroscopy, and the interobserver agreement of scoring TMVS was good with a Kappa statistic of 0.73. The simethicone group had significantly better mean TMVS compared to placebo(5.78 ± SD 1.65 vs 8.89 ± SD 1.97, P < 0.001). The improvement was statistically significant for the duodenum and the gastric antrum, angularis, body, and fundus. Percent 51.9 of patients in the simethicone group had a TMVS of 4(no bubbles at all) to 5(only 1 area with minimal bubbles), while in the placebo group 3.7% of patients had TMVS of 4 or 5. The number needed to treat was 2.1 to avoid a TMVS of 6 and more. 5Metabolic syndrome and benign prostatic hyperplasia:An update显示文摘Metabolic syndrome(MetS)is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities related to central adiposity and insulin resistance.Its importance is increasingly recognized as it associates with increased risks of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.These metabolic aberrations of MetS may lead to development of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)and lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)in men.A 26.5%-55.6% prevalence of MetS in men with LUTS was reported in worldwide studies.Although the exact biological pathway is not clear yet,insulin resistance,increased visceral adiposity,sex hormone alterations and cellular inflammatory reactions played significant roles in the related pathophysiological processes.Clinician should recognize the cardiovascular and metabolic impacts of MetS in men with LUTS,early risk factors optimization and use of appropriate medical therapy may possibly alter or slower the progression of LUTS/BPH,and potentially avoid unnecessary morbidities and mortalities from cardiovascular and metabolic diseases for those men.Ho-Yin Ngai Kar-Kei Steffi Yuen Chi-Man Ng Cheung-Hing Cheng Sau-Kwan Peggy Chu 2017Asian Journal of Urology2017,4,3:9

7Rock brittleness indices and their applications to different fields of rock engineering:A review显示文摘Brittleness is an important parameter controlling the mechanical behavior and failure characteristics of rocks under loading and unloading conditions,such as fracability,cutability,drillability and rockburst proneness.As such,it is of high practical value to correctly evaluate rock brittleness.However,the definition and measurement method of rock brittleness have been very diverse and not yet been standardized.In this paper,the definitions of rock brittleness are firstly reviewed,and several representative definitions of rock brittleness are identified and briefly discussed.The development and role of rock brittleness in different fields of rock engineering are also studied.Eighty brittleness indices publicly available in rock mechanics literature are compiled,and the measurement method,applicability and limitations of some indices are discussed.The results show that(1)the large number of brittleness indices and brittleness definitions is attributed to the different foci on the rock behavior when it breaks;(2)indices developed in one field usually are not directly applicable to other fields;and(3)the term“brittleness”is sometimes misused,and many empirically-obtained brittleness indices,which lack theoretical basis,fail to truly reflect rock brittleness.On the basis of this review,three measurement methods are identified,i.e.(1)elastic deformation before fracture,(2)shape of post-peak stressestrain curves,and(3)methods based on fracture mechanics theory,which have the potential to be further refined and unified to become the standard measurement methods of rock brittleness.It is highly beneficial for the rock mechanics community to develop a robust definition of rock brittleness.This study will undoubtedly provide a comprehensive timely reference for selecting an appropriate brittleness index for their applications,and will also pave the way for the development of a standard definition and measurement method of rock brittleness in the long term.Fanzhen Meng Louis Ngai Yuen Wong Hui Zhou 2021Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,1:8

10Influence of grain size on strength of polymineralic crystalline rock: New insights from DEM grain-based modeling显示文摘Grain size effect on rock strength is a topic of great interest in geotechnical engineering.A consensus obtained from earlier laboratory tests is that rock strength generally decreases with the increase of grain size for both silicate and carbonate rocks;however,some recent numerical results conflict with such laboratory test results.To address this intriguing issue,the effect of grain size on strength of polymineralic crystalline rock with low porosity is investigated numerically using the grain-based modeling(GBM)approach in discrete element method(DEM)by interpreting micro-cracking process in response to loading.In agreement with some previous DEM simulation results,the simulated rock strength is found to increase with increasing grain size for both homogeneous and heterogeneous models,even when the number of assembled disks in one mineral grain changes.The mechanism of strength increase with increasing grain size is mainly associated with the number of assembled smooth-joint contacts along grain interfaces and the generation of grain boundary cracks in response to loading.The grain interfaces significantly weaken the integrity of the rock model,which is similar to effects of inherent defects in real rock.As the grain size increases,fewer grain interfaces are built in the model and the rock strength becomes much higher.Hence,by solely changing the mineral grain size in a model,the mechanism of grain size effect as observed in laboratory tests cannot be replicated.To address this issue,a method of degradation of grain boundary strength parameters is used to mimic the possible mechanism of grain size effect.The simulated strength using the method becomes comparable with those obtained from laboratory tests when the heterogeneity in the rock is considered.Degradation of grain boundary parameters with increasing grain size provides a plausible explanation for the grain size effect on rock strength.Jun Peng Louis Ngai Yuen Wong Cee Ing Teh 2021Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,4:6
11小切口单髁置换和全膝关节置换配对比较临床早期结果显示文摘目的 通过配对比较 ,观察小切口单髁置换和全膝关节置换治疗单室膝关节骨性关节炎的早期临床结果。方法 2 0 0 1年 6~ 12月 ,新加坡中央医院采用小切口单髁置换连续治疗 5 0例内侧单室膝关节骨关节炎患者 ,同时对在年龄、临床症状、膝关节的X线分级上进行配对比较的 5 0例内侧单室膝关节骨关节炎患者进行全膝关节置换。小切口单髁置换组 ,男 9例 ,女 4 1例 ;年龄 5 2~ 85岁 ,平均 6 4岁。全膝关节置换组 ,男 8例 ,女 4 2例 ;年龄 5 5~ 80岁 ,平均 6 7岁。临床均表现为膝关节内侧间隙疼痛 ,AhlbackX线分级Ⅰ~Ⅲ级。结果 小切口单髁置换组与全膝关节置换组比较 ,具有出血量少、膝关节功能恢复快、住院时间短、并发症少、创伤小、康复快、费用少等优点。结论 对于单室膝关节骨关节炎 ,小切口单髁置换与全膝关节置换术比较 。王铭春 Lo Ngai Nung Yeo Seng Jin Seow Kang Hong Yang Kuang Ying 2002上海医学2002,25,11:5
12Rapidly solidified hypereutectic Al-Si alloys prepared by powder hot extrusion显示文摘Rapidly solidified hypereutectic Al-Si alloys were prepared by powder hot extrusion. By eliminating vacuum degassing procedure, the fabrication routine was simplified. The tensile fracture mechanisms at room temperature and elevated temperature were investigated by SEM fractography. Compared with KS282 casting material, the tensile strength of rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy is greatly improved due to silicon particles refining while its density and coefficient of thermal expansion are lower than those of KS282. 14Fuzzy Multiple Attribute Decision Making for Evaluating Aggregate Risk in Green Manufacturing显示文摘Industrial risk and the diversification of risk types both increase with industrial development. Many uncertain factors and high risk are inherent in the implementation of new green manufacturing methods. Because of the shortage of successful examples and complete and certain knowledge, decision-making methods using probabilities to represent risk, which need many examples, cannot be used to evaluate risk in the implementation of green manufacturing projects. Therefore, a fuzzy multiple attribute decision-making (FMADM) method was developed with a three-level hierarchical decision-making model to evaluate the aggregate risk for green manufacturing projects.
