Recognition of motor imagery tasks for BCI using CSP and chaotic PSO twin SVM显示文摘Accurate modeling and recognition of the brain activity patterns for reliable communication and interaction are still a challenging task for the motor imagery(MI) brain-computer interface(BCI) system. In this paper, we propose a common spatial pattern(CSP) and chaotic particle swarm optimization(CPSO) twin support vector machine(TWSVM) scheme for classification of MI electroencephalography(EEG). The self-adaptive artifact removal and CSP were used to obtain the most distinguishable features. To improve the recognition results, CPSO was employed to tune the hyper-parameters of the TWSVM classifier. The usefulness of the proposed method was evaluated using the BCI competition IV-IIa dataset. The experimental results showed that the mean recognition accuracy of our proposed method was increased by 5.35%, 4.33%, 0.78%, 1.45%, and 9.26% compared with the CPSO support vector machine(SVM), particle swarm optimization(PSO) TWSVM, linear discriminant analysis(LDA), back propagation(BP) and probabilistic neural network(PNN), respectively. Furthermore, it achieved a faster or comparable central processing unit(CPU) running time over the traditional SVM methods. | Li Duan Zhang Hongxin Muhammad Saad Khan Mi Fang | 2017 | The Journal of China Universities of Posts and Telecommunications2017,24,3: | 7
Antimicrobial activity of mangrove plant(Lumnitzera littorea)显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antimicrobial activities of n-hexane.ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of the leaves of Lumnitzera littorea(L littorea) against six human pathogenic microbes. Methods:The antimicrobial activity was evaluated using disc diffusion and microdilution methods. Results:The antimicrobial activities of the crude extracts were increased with increasing the concentration. It is clear that n-hexane extract was the most effective extract. Additionally.Gram positive Bacillus cereus(B.cereus) appear to be the most sensitive strain while Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa) and the yeast strains(Candida albicans(C. albicans) and Cryptococcus neoformans(C.neqformans)) appear to be resistance to the tested concentrations since no inhibition zone was observed. The inhibition of microbial growth at concentration as low as 0.04 mg/ml.indicated the potent antimicrobial activity of L littorea extracts. Conclusions:The obtained results are considered sufficient for further study to isolate the compounds responsible for the activity and suggesting the possibility of finding potent antibacterial agents from L littorea extracts. | Shahbudin Saad Muhammad Taher Deny Susanti Haitham Qaralleh Nurul Afifah Binti Abdul Rahim | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,7: | 7
A Fully Coupled Thermomechanical Model of Friction Stir Welding(FSW) and Numerical Studies on Process Parameters of Lightweight Aluminum Alloy Joints显示文摘This paper presents a new thermomechanical model of friction stir welding which is capable of simulating the three major steps of friction stir welding(FSW) process, i.e., plunge, dwell, and travel stages. A rate-dependent Johnson–Cook constitutive model is chosen to capture elasto-plastic work deformations during FSW. Two different weld schedules(i.e., plunge rate, rotational speed, and weld speed) are validated by comparing simulated temperature profiles with experimental results. Based on this model, the influences of various welding parameters on temperatures and energy generation during the welding process are investigated. Numerical results show that maximum temperature in FSW process increases with the decrease in plunge rate, and the frictional energy increases almost linearly with respect to time for different rotational speeds. Furthermore, low rotational speeds cause inadequate temperature distribution due to low frictional and plastic dissipation energy which eventually results in weld defects. When both the weld speed and rotational speed are increased, the contribution of plastic dissipation energy increases significantly and improved weld quality can be expected. | Saad B.Aziz Mohammad W.Dewan Daniel J.Huggett Muhammad A.Wahab Ayman M.Okeil T.Warren Liao | 2018 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2018,31,1: | 6
Reflectometric and interferometric fiber optic sensor's principles and applications显示文摘Fiber optic sensors have been widely used and studied in recent times. This paper presents operating principles and applications of fiber optic sensors namely reflectometric and interferometric fiber optic sensors. Majority of optical fiber sensors fall under these two broad categories. Both interferometric and reflectometric fiber optic sensors are becoming popular for their ease of use, flexibility, long distance sensing, and potentially noise free detection. Also, these sensors can easily be used in various applications such as structural health monitoring, perimeter intrusion detection, temperature monitoring, and other numerous applications. This paper broadly classifies fiber optic sensors into two subtypes. The paper further highlights different sensors based on their sensing resolution, range, spatial advantages, and applications. | Muhammad Noaman ZAHID Jianliang JIANG Saad RIZVI | 2019 | Frontiers of Optoelectronics2019,12,2: | 6
Impact of Friction Stir Welding (FSW) Process Parameters on Thermal Modeling and Heat Generation of Aluminum Alloy Joints显示文摘Friction stir welding(FSW)is a solid-state joining process, where joint properties largely depend on the amount of heat generation during the welding process. The objective of this paper was to develop a numerical thermomechanical model for FSW of aluminum–copper alloy AA2219 and analyze heat generation during the welding process. The thermomechanical model has been developed utilizing ANSYS~ APDL.The model was verified by comparing simulated temperature profile of three different weld schedules(i.e.,different combinations of weld parameters in real weld situations)from simulation with experimental results.Furthermore, the verified model was used to analyze the effect of different weld parameters on heat generation.Among all the weld parameters, the effect of rotational speed on heat generation is the highest. | Saad B.Aziz Mohammad W.Dewan Daniel J.Huggett Muhammad A.Wahab Ayman M.Okeil T.Warren Liao | 2016 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2016,29,9: | 5
Comparative analysis of the effectiveness of abiraterone before and after docetaxel in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer显示文摘AIM: To study the efficacy and safety of abiraterone in patients with and without prior chemotherapy.METHODS: The databases including Pub Med and abstracts presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meetings up to April 2014 were systematically searched. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials(RCTs) in which abiraterone plus prednisone was compared to placebo plus prednisone in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC) patients. The summary incidence, relative risk, hazard ratio and 95%CI were calculated using random or fixed-effects models. Heterogeneity test was performed to test between-study differences in efficacy and toxicity.RESULTS: A total of two phase III RCTs were included in our analysis, with metastatic CPRC patients before(n = 1088) and after chemotherapy(n = 1195). Prior chemotherapy did not significantly alter the effect of abiraterone on overall survival(P = 0.92) and prostatespecific antigen(PSA) progression-free survival(P = 0.13), but reduced its effect on radiographic-prog-ression-free survival(P = 0.04), objective response rate(P < 0.001), and PSA response rate(P < 0.001). Prior chemotherapy significantly increased the specific risk of fluid retention and edema(P < 0.001) and hypokalemia(P < 0.001), but decreased the risk of all-grade hypertension(P < 0.001) attributable to abiraterone. There was no significant difference of cardiac disorders associated with abiraterone between the two settings(P = 0.58). CONCLUSION: Prior chemotherapy may reduce the effectiveness of abiraterone in patients with metastatic CRPC. | Raji Shameem Muhammad Saad Hamid Kevin Y Xu Shenhong Wu | 2015 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2015,6,4: | 3
Morphological traits for sex identification of the oriental armyworm,Mythimna separata(Lepidoptera:Noctuidae)显示文摘The oriental armyworm,Mythimna separata(Lepidoptera:Noctuidae)is a harmful pest which causes heavy loss in agricultural crops.Sex identification of M.separata is very important for understanding the biology and management of this pest.Development of fast and convenient methods to identify M.separata female and male is the necessary prerequisite for con ducting gender-related studies. In this study, new methods to differentiate sex of M.separata at pupal and adult stages were investigated. Our results showed that posterior abdominal segments containing genital organs which are morphological traits to differentiate female and male.Genital openings are important characters for the female and male pupae differentiation. For female pupa,it locates on the ventral side of eighth and ninth abdominal segments and appears as a visible longitudinal suture;for male pupa,it locates on the ventral side of the ninth abdominal segment and appears as a short slit surrounded by a pair of visible semicircular lumps.Bristle numbers are another indicator for sex differentiation of adults. Each female has three-bristled frenulum and each male has one bristled-frenulum near the base of hind wing of each side of moth body.We confirmed the two sex differentiation methods manually by dissecting genitalia of adults and found their genger was as same as what we examined the sex of pupae and adults using the morphological methods. | CHEN Lin PAN Qin-jian Muhammad Saad WAQAS LIU Tong-xian | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2020,19,6: | 3

Mesuaferrea stem bark extract induces apoptosis and inhibits metastasis in human colorectal carcinoma HCT 116 cells, through modulation of multiple cell signalling pathways显示文摘Considering the great potential of natural products as anticancer agents, the present study was designed to explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for anticancer activities of Mesua ferrea stem bark extract against human colorectal carcinoma. Based on MTT assay results, bioactive sub-fraction(SF-3) was selected for further studies using HCT 116 cells. Repeated column chromatography resulted in isolation of less active α-amyrin from SF-3, which was identified and characterized by GC-MS and HPLC methods. α-amyrin and betulinic acid contents of SF-3 were measured by HPLC methods. Fluorescent assays revealed characteristic apoptotic features, including cell shrinkage, nuclear condensation, and marked decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, increased levels of caspases-9 and-3/7 levels were also observed in SF-3 treated cells. SF-3 showed promising antimetastatic properties in multiple in vitro assays. Multi-pathway analysis revealed significant down-regulation of WNT, HIF-1α, and EGFR with simultaneous up-regulation of p53, Myc/Max, and TGF-β signalling pathways in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, promising growth inhibitory effects were observed in SF-3 treated HCT 116 tumour spheroids, which give a hint about in vivo antitumor efficacy of SF-3 phytoconstituents. In conclusion, these results demonstrated that anticancer effects of SF-3 towards colon cancer are through modulation of multiple molecular pathways. | Muhammad Asif Armaghan Shafaei Aman Shah Abdul Majid Mohammed Oday Ezzat Saad S Dahham Mohamed B.Khadeer Ahamed Chern Ein Oon Amin Malik Shah Abdul Majid | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2017,15,7: | 2

Privacy Protection with Dynamic Pseudonym-Based Multiple Mix-Zones Over Road Networks显示文摘In this research we proposed a strategy for location privacy protection which addresses the issues related with existing location privacy protection techniques. Mix-Zones and pseudonyms are considered as the basic building blocks for location privacy; however, continuously changing pseudonyms process at multiple locations can enhance user privacy. It has been revealed that changing pseudonym at improper time and location may threat to user's privacy. Moreover, certain methods related to pseudonym change have been proposed to attain desirable location privacy and most of these solutions are based upon velocity, GPS position and direction of angle. We analyzed existing methods related to location privacy with mix zones, such as RPCLP, EPCS and MODP, where it has been observed that these methods are not adequate to attain desired level of location privacy and suffered from large number of pseudonym changes. By analyzing limitations of existing methods, we proposed Dynamic Pseudonym based multiple mix zone(DPMM) technique, which ensures highest level of accuracy and privacy. We simulate our data by using SUMO application and analysis results has revealed that DPMM outperformed existing pseudonym change techniques and achieved better results in terms of acquiring high privacy with small number of pseudonym change. | Qasim Ali Arain Zhongliang Deng Imran memon Asma Zubedi Jichao Jiao Aisha Ashraf Muhammad Saad Khan | 2017 | China Communications2017,14,4: | 1
