1An integrated approach for increasing breeding efficiency in apple and peach in Europe显示文摘Despite the availability of whole genome sequences of apple and peach,there has been a considerable gap between genomics and breeding.To bridge the gap,the European Union funded the FruitBreedomics project(March 2011 to August 2015)involving 28 research institutes and private companies.Three complementary approaches were pursued:(i)tool and software development,(ii)deciphering genetic control of main horticultural traits taking into account allelic diversity and(iii)developing plant materials,tools and methodologies for breeders.Decisive breakthroughs were made including the making available of ready-to-go DNA diagnostic tests for Marker Assisted Breeding,development of new,dense SNP arrays in apple and peach,new phenotypic methods for some complex traits,software for gene/QTL discovery on breeding germplasm via Pedigree Based Analysis(PBA).This resulted in the discovery of highly predictive molecular markers for traits of horticultural interest via PBA and via Genome Wide Association Studies(GWAS)on several European genebank collections.FruitBreedomics also developed pre-breeding plant materials in which multiple sources of resistance were pyramided and software that can support breeders in their selection activities.Through FruitBreedomics,significant progresses were made in the field of apple and peach breeding,genetics,genomics and bioinformatics of which advantage will be made by breeders,germplasm curators and scientists.A major part of the data collected during the project has been stored in the FruitBreedomics database and has been made available to the public.This review covers the scientific discoveries made in this major endeavour,and perspective in the apple and peach breeding and genomics in Europe and beyond.Francois Laurens Maria JoséAranzana Pere Arus Daniele Bassi Marco Bink Joan Bonany Andrea Caprera Luca Corelli-Grappadelli Evelyne Costes Charles-Eric Durel Jehan-Baptiste Mauroux Hélène Muranty Nelson Nazzicari Thierry Pascal Andrea Patocchi Andreas Peil Bénédicte Quilot-Turion Laura Rossini Alessandra Stella Michela Troggio Riccardo Velasco Eric van de Weg 2018Horticulture Research2018,5,1:10
2Fatty liver disease,an emerging etiology of hepatocellular carcinoma in Argentina显示文摘AIM To investigate any changing trends in the etiologies of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in Argentina during the last years. METHODS A longitudinal cohort study was conducted by 14 regional hospitals starting in 2009 through 2016. All adult patients with newly diagnosed HCC either with pathology or imaging criteria were included. Patients were classified as presenting non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) either by histology or clinically, provided that all other etiologies of liver disease were ruled out, fatty liver was present on abdominal ultrasound and alcohol consumption was excluded. Complete follow-up was assessed in all included subjects since the date of HCC diagnosis until death or last medical visit.RESULTS A total of 708 consecutive adults with HCC were included. Six out of 14 hospitals were liver transplant centers(n = 484). The prevalence of diabetes mellitus was 27.7%. Overall, HCV was the main cause of liver disease related with HCC(37%) including cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients, followed by alcoholic liver disease 20.8%, NAFLD 11.4%, cryptogenic 9.6%, HBV 5.4% infection, cholestatic disease and autoimmune hepatitis 2.2%, and other causes 9.9%. A 6-fold increase in the percentage corresponding to NAFLDHCC was detected when the starting year, i.e., 2009 was compared to the last one, i.e., 2015(4.3% vs 25.6%; P < 0.0001). Accordingly, a higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus was present in NAFLD-HCC group 61.7% when compared to other than NAFLD-HCC 23.3%(P < 0.0001). Lower median AFP values at HCC diagnosis were observed between NAFLD-HCC and non-NAFLD groups(6.6 ng/m L vs 26 ng/m L; P = 0.02). 5The first pterosaur 3-D egg:Implications for Pterodaustro guinazui nesting strategies,an Albian filter feeder pterosaur from central Argentina显示文摘The increasing number of fossil pterosaur eggs sheds light on nesting environments and breeding behaviors of these extinct flying reptiles.Here we report the first partial three-dimensional egg of the pterosaur,Pterodaustro guinazui,from central Argentina.The specimen was discovered from the same Albian deposits as the exceptional P.guinazui embryo described in 2004.Microscopic characterizations indicate a pristine preservation of the 50 mm thick calcium carbonate,which differs significantly from the soft shell of Chinese pterosaur eggs.Estimate of the eggshell conductance implies that the nest had a minimum moisture content of 75%.This moisture estimate,combined with geological and taphonomical data,suggests that P.guinazui may have adopted a nesting strategy similar to those of grebes and flamingos rather than being buried on land,as previously hypothesized.Moreover,our results demonstrate that the nesting paleoenvironment of this pterosaur species was closely linked to a mesohaline lacustrine ecosystem in a basin governed by regional tectonic subsidence,a setting characteristic for the feeding and reproduction of modern flamingos.Gerald Grellet-Tinner Michael B.Thompson Lucas E.Fiorelli Eloísa Argaaraz Laura Codorniú E.Martín Hechenleitner 2014Geoscience Frontiers2014,5,6:2
