| 1 | 42,573 cases of hepatectomy in China: a multicenter retrospective investigation显示文摘Hepatectomy is currently routinely performed in most hospitals in China. China owns the largest population of liver diseases and the biggest number of liver resection cases. A nationwide multicenter retrospective investigation involving 112 hospitals was performed, and focused on liver resection for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). 42,573 cases of hepatectomy were enrolled, and 18,275 valid cases of liver resection for HCC patients were selected for statistical analysis. The epidemiology of HCC, distribution of hepatectomy, postoperative complications and prognosis were finally analyzed. In the 18,275 HCC patients,81% had hepatitis B virus infection and 10% had hepatitis C virus infection. 38% of the HCC patients had normal Alphafetoprotein(AFP) level, and other 35% had an AFP level lower than 400 ng mL^(-1). In the study period, 97% of the hepatectomy for HCC were treated with open surgery, and 23.81% had vascular exclusion techniques. The operation time was(191.7±105.6) min,the blood loss was(546.0±562.8) m L, and blood transfusion was(543.0±1,035.2) m L. The median survival for HCC patients was 631 days, with 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival of 73.2%, 28.8% and 19.6%, respectively. | 2 | Evolution and variation of the Tsushima warm current during the late Quaternary: Evidence from planktonic foraminifera, oxygen and carbon isotopes显示文摘The evolution and variation history of the Tsushima warm current during the late Quaternary was reconstructed based on the quantitative census data of planktonic foraminiferal fauna, together with oxygen and carbon isotope records of mixed layer dweller G. ruber and thermocline dweller N. dutertrei in piston core CSH1 and core DGKS9603 collected separately from the Tsushima warm current and the Kuroshio dominated area. The result showed that the Tsushima warm current vanished in the lowstand period during 40―24 cal ka BP, while the Kuroshio still flowed across the Okinawa Trough, arousing strong upwelling in the northern Trough. Meanwhile, the influence of freshwater greatly increased in the northern Okinawa Trough, as the broad East China Sea continental shelf emerged. The freshwater reached its maximum during the last glacial maximum (LGM), when the upwelling obviously weakened for the lowest sea-level and the depression of the Kuroshio. The modern Tsushima warm current began its development since 16 cal ka BP, and the impact of the Kuroshio increased in the middle and north- ern Okinawa Trough synchronously during the deglaciation and gradually evolved as the main water source of the Tsushima current. The modern Tsushima current finally formed at about 8.5 cal ka BP, since then the circulation structure has been relatively stable. The water of the modern Tsushima cur- rent primarily came from the Kuroshio axis. A short-term wiggle of the current occurred at about 3 cal ka BP, probably for the influences from the enhancement of the winter monsoon and the depression of the Kuroshio. | 5 | Oral health in China: from vision to action显示文摘Chinese president Xi Jinping made clear at the National Health and Wellness Conference that health is the prerequisite for people's all-around development and a precondition for the sustainable development of China. Oral health is an indispensable component of overall health in humans. However, the long neglect of oral health in overall health agendas has made oral diseases an increasing concern. With this perspective, we described the global challenges of oral diseases, with an emphasis on the challenges faced by China. We also described and analyzed the recently released health policies of the Chinese government, which aim to guide midterm and long-term oral health promotion in China. More importantly, we called for specific actions to fulfill the larger goal of oral health for the nation. The implementation of primordial prevention efforts against oral diseases, the integration of oral health into the promotion of overall health, and the management of oral diseases in conjunction with other chronic non-communicable diseases with shared risk factors were highly recommended. In addition, we suggested the reform of standard clinical residency training, the development of domestic manufacturing of dental equipment and materials, the revitalization traditional Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, and integration of oral health promotion into the Belt and Road Initiative. | 6 | A New Rational-based Optimal Design Strategy of Ship Structure Based on Multi-level Analysis and Super-element Modeling Method显示文摘A new multi-level analysis method of introducing the super-element modeling method, derived from the multi-level analysis method first proposed by O. F. Hughes, has been proposed in this paper to solve the problem of high time cost in adopting a rational-based optimal design method for ship structural design. Furthermore,the method was verified by its effective application in optimization of the mid-ship section of a container ship. A full 3-D FEM model of a ship,suffering static and quasi-static loads, was used as the analyzing object for evaluating the structural performance of the mid-ship module, including static strength and buckling performance. | 7 | Wide river or narrow river:Future river training strategy for Lower Yellow River under global change显示文摘The choice of a river training strategy is extremely important for the Lower Yellow River(LYR). Currently,the wide-river training strategy applies in the training of the LYR. However, remarkable changes in the hydrological processes in the Yellow River basin, as well as immediate pressure from socio-economic development in the Yellow River basin, make it necessary to consider if there is a possibility to change the river training strategy from wide-river training to narrow-river training. This research investigates the impacts of different river training strategies on the LYR through numerical simulations. A onedimensional(1-D) model was used to simulate the fluvial processes for the future 50 years and a threedimensional(3-D) model was applied to study typical floods. The study focused on river morphology, the results show that if the present decreasing trend in both water discharge and sediment load persists, the deposition rate in the LYR will further decrease no matter what strategy is applied. Especially, narrowriver training can achieve the aim to increase the sediment transport capacity in the LYR compared with wide-river training. However, if the incoming water and sediment load recovers to the mean level of the last century, main channel shrinkage due to sedimentation inevitably occurs for both wide-river and narrow-river training. Most importantly, this study shows that narrow-river training reduces the deposition amount over the whole LYR, but it provides little help in alleviating the development of the'suspended river'. Instead, narrow-river training can cause aggradation in the transitional reach where the river pattern changes from highly wandering to meandering, further worsening the 'hump deposition' there. | 9 | Exploration of presence/absence variation and corresponding polymorphic markers in soybean genome显示文摘This study was designed to reveal the genome‐wide distribution of presence/absence variation(PAV) and to establish a database of polymorphic PAV markers in soybean. The 33 soybean whole‐genome sequences were compared to each other with that of Williams 82 as a reference genome. A total of 33,127 PAVs were detected and 28,912 PAV markers with their primer sequences were designed as the database NJAUSoyPAV_1.0. The PAVs scattered on whole genome while only 518(1.8%) overlapped with simple sequence repeats(SSRs) in BARCSOYSSR_1.0database. In a random sample of 800 PAVs, 713(89.13%) showed polymorphism among the 12 differential genotypes. Using 126 PAVs and 108 SSRs to test a Chinese soybean germplasm collection composed of 828 Glycine soja Sieb. et Zucc. and Glycine max(L.) Merr. accessions, the per locus allele number and its variation appeared less in PAVs than in SSRs. The distinctness among alleles/bands of PCR(polymerase chain reaction) products showed better in PAVs than in SSRs, potential in accurate marker‐assisted allele selection. Aiming at the asymmetric deformation and destruction phenomenon appearing after excavating and supporting the 7101 air return way in Meihe mine, this paper comprehensively adopted a variety of methods to analyze the roadway surrounding rock deformation rule, obtaining the roadway surrounding rock stress and plastic zone distribution rule under no supporting condition and the roadway surrounding rock deformation features under original symmetric supporting condition.Furthermore, this paper revealed the catastrophe mechanism, and proposed the concept of ‘‘weak structure'' and the disaster countermeasure of ‘‘overall stabilizing the roadway and strengthening the support of weak structure''. | 11 | To explore the curative effect of CT-guided Iodine-125 radioactive seed implantation in the treatment of stage Ⅳprimary hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Objectives: To explore the clinical efficacy and survival of CT-guided Iodine-125 radioactive seed implantation in the treatment of stage Ⅳ primary hepatocellular carcinoma.Methods: A retrospective study of 62 patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma in our hospital from January2017 to December 2018 [60 males, 2 females, age(52.76 ± 10.82) years old], All patients were implanted with Iodine-125 radioactive seeds under CT guidance, followed up regularly after operation to observe the clinical efficacy, including comparison of changes in cancer size before and after treatment, tumor marker AFP, and improvement in complications such as abdominal pain and ascites. Follow-up 3–36 months to assess patient survival.Results: Among the 62 patients, 3 months after Iodine-125 radioactive seed implantation, 5 cases(8.1%) had complete remission of cancer, 33 cases(53.2%) had partial remission, 12 cases(19.4%) had stable lesions, and 12 cases(19.4%) had disease progression. The effective rate was 61.3%. The tumor volume(31.44 ± 14.51 cm3) was significantly smaller than before(50.96 ± 30.13 cm3)(t=5.303, p < 0.05). The tumor marker AFP(69.28 ±50.99) ug/L of 3 months after implantation was significantly lower than that before treatment(90.63 ± 68.58)ug/L(t=3.702, P < 0.05). The average survival time of Iodine-125 seed implantation for stageⅣhepatocellular carcinoma is 11.47 ± 0.85 months, and the median survival time is 9 months. The survival time of the group with better pathological differentiation(grade Ⅰ+ⅡⅠ) was significantly better than that of the group with poor differentiation(grade Ⅲ+Ⅳ)(x2=6.869 p < 0.05). Among the 38 patients with different degrees of abdominal pain,22 patients improved better than before;15 of 28 patients with different degrees of ascites were better than before. | 15 | Relationship between triphasic mechanical properties of articular cartilage and osteoarthritic grade显示文摘The purpose of this study was to explore the triphasic mechanical properties of osteoarthritic cartilage with different pathological grades.First,samples of cartilage from rabbits with different stages of osteoarthritis (OA) were graded.Following this,the cartilage was strained by a swelling experiment,and changes were measured using a high-frequency ultrasound system.The result,together with fixed charge density and water volume fraction of cartilage samples,was used to estimate the uniaxial modulus of the cartilage tissue,based on a triphasic model.For the control cartilage samples,the uniaxial elastic modulus on the cartilage surface was lower than those in the middle and deep layers.With an increase in the OA grade,the uniaxial elastic modulus of the surface,middle and deep layers decreased.A significant difference was found in the surface elastic modulus of different OA grades (P<0.01),while no significant differences were identified for OA cartilages of Grades 1 and 2 in the middle and deep layers (P<0.01).Compared with Grades 1 and 2,there was a significant reduction in the elastic modulus in the middle and deep layers of Grade 3 OA cartilage (P<0.05).Overall,this study may provide a new quantitative method to evaluate the severity of OA using the mechanical properties of cartilage tissue. | NIU HaiJun LIU ChengRui LIAng WANG Qing WANG YueXiang LI DeYu FAN YuBo | 2012 | Science China(Life Sciences)2012,55,5: | 3 |

| 17 | Ultrasound speed and attenuation in progressive trypsin digested articular cartilage显示文摘Subtle changes of articular cartilage(AC) can lead to tissue degeneration and even osteoarthritis(OA).The early degeneration of AC is closely related to a change in proteoglycans(PG) content.The observation of PG is therefore an appropriate way of studying OA and evaluating the degree of AC degeneration.In this study,20 cartilage-bone samples were prepared from normal porcine femoral condyle cartilage and 10 samples were digested over 2 h using 0.25% trypsin solution.The dynamic process of PG-digestion was explored using a conventional A-mode ultrasound(US) experimental system with a 10 MHz center frequency.Quantitative acoustic parameters were calculated from ultrasonic radio-frequency echo signals and included US speed(USS),US amplitude attenuation coefficient(UAA) and broadband US attenuation coefficient(BUA).The experimental results showed that the conventional A-mode ultrasound is valuable for tracking the degree of PG-digestion.Histology also confirmed the validity of the ultrasound observations.For every AC sample,the degree of PG-digestion within a given time was different and was affected by individual differences.After two hours of degeneration,USS showed a mean decrease of 0.4%(P<0.05).UAA was significantly lower after a two-hour PG depletion period(from(2.45±0.23) to(2.28±0.41) dB mm?1).BUA showed no significant differences during this process.In conclusion,conventional ultrasound can provide useful information about trypsin-induced progressive PG depletion in AC and can reflect variations of PG content via the quantitative acoustic parameters USS and UAA.The results of this study may be used to identify an indirect indicator of cartilage matrix integrity and OA disease progression. | NIU HaiJun LI LiFeng SUN Feng YAN Yan WANG YueXiang LI DeYu FAN YuBo | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,11: | 3 |

Numerous experimental results show that the proposed model is superior to other methods in noise removal, fidelity and edge preservation. | 20 | pH-responsive poly(2-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate)-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes显示文摘Poly(2-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDEAEMA)-coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT- PDEAEMA) were successfully prepared by MWNT-surface initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The obtained MWNT-PDEAEMA nanocylinders have a core of MWNT and a shell of PDEAEMA and this core-shell struc- ture was confirmed by TEM observations. The UV-Vis and AFM measurements showed that the MWNT-PDEAEMA exhibited obvious pH sensitivity. The solubility of PDEAEMA-coated MWNT dramatically decreased when pH increased to ca. 7.0.
