1Mitogenomic phylogeny of the Asian colobine genus Trachypithecus with special focus on Trachypithecus phayrei(Blyth, 1847) and description of a new species显示文摘Trachypithecus,which currently contains 20 species divided into four groups,is the most speciose and geographically dispersed genus among Asian colobines.Despite several morphological and molecular studies,however,its evolutionary history and phylogeography remain poorly understood.Phayre’s langur(Trachypithecus phayrei) is one of the most widespread members of the genus,but details on its actual distribution and intraspecific taxonomy are limited and controversial.Thus,to elucidate the evolutionary history of Trachypithecus and to clarify the intraspecific taxonomy and distribution of T.phayrei,we sequenced 41 mitochondrial genomes from georeferenced fecal samples and museum specimens,including two holotypes.Phylogenetic analyses revealed a robustly supported phylogeny of Trachypithecus,suggesting that the T.pileatus group branched first,followed by the T.francoisi group,and the T.cristatus and T.obscurus groups most recently.The four species groups diverged from each other 4.5-3.1 million years ago(Ma),while speciation events within these groups occurred much more recently(1.6-0.3 Ma).Within T.phayrei,we found three clades that diverged 1.0-0.9 Ma,indicating the existence of three rather than two taxa.Following the phylogenetic species concept and based on genetic,morphological,and ecological differences,we elevate the T.phayrei subspecies to species level,describe a new species from central Myanmar,and refine the distribution of the three taxa.Overall,our study highlights the importance of museum specimens and provides new insights not only into the evolutionary history of T.phayrei but the entire Trachypithecus genus as well.Christian Roos Kristofer MHelgen Roberto Portela Miguez Naw May Lay Thant Ngwe Lwin Aung Ko Lin Aung Lin Khin Mar Yi Paing Soe Zin Mar Hein Margaret Nyein Nyein Myint Tanvir Ahmed Dilip Chetry Melina Urh EGrace Veatch Neil Duncan Pepijn Kamminga Marcus AHChua Lu Yao Christian Matauschek Dirk Meyer Zhi-Jin Liu Ming Li Tilo Nadler Peng-Fei Fan Le Khac Quyet Michael Hofreiter Dietmar Zinner Frank Momberg 2020Zoological Research2020,41,6:5
2Hepatitis C virus therapy with peg-interferon and ribavirin in Myanmar: A resource-constrained country显示文摘AIM To investigate peg-interferon(peg-IFN) and ribavirin(RBV) therapy in Myanmar and to predict sustained virologic response(SVR).METHODS This single-center, open-label, study was conducted in Myanmar between 2009 and 2014. A total of 288 patients infected with HCV genotypes 1, 2, 3 and 6 were treated with peg-IFN alpha-2a(180 μg/wk) or alpha-2b(50 to 100 μg as a weight-based dose) and RBV as a weight-based dose(15 mg/kg/d). Treatment duration was 48 wk for genotypes 1 and 6, 24 wk for genotype 2, and 24 or 48 wk for genotype 3 based on rapid virologic response(RVR). Those co-infected with hepatitis B received 48 wk of therapy.RESULTS Overall, SVR was achieved for 82% of patients and the therapy was well tolerated. All patients achieved SVR at equivalent rates regardless of HCV genotype(P = 0.314). Low fibrosis scores(P < 0.001), high baseline albumin levels(P = 0.028) and low baseline viral loads(P = 0.029) all independently predicted SVR. On the other hand, IL-28 B TT and CC genotypes were not found to significantly predict SVR(P = 0.634; P = 0.618). Among those who completed treatment, the occurrence of RVR showed a > 96% positive predictive value for achieving SVR. Treatment duration did not significantly impact the likelihood of achieving SVR for patients infected with genotype 3 HCV(P = 0.371). The most common adverse events were fatigue(71%) and poor appetite(60%). Among patients with genotype 3 HCV, more patients in the 48-wk treatment group required erythropoietin than in the 24-wk treatment group(61.1% vs 49.2%).CONCLUSION SVR rates were high with peg-IFN and RBV therapy in Myanmar. 4Mapping and modelling the impact of mass drug adminstration on filariasis prevalence in Myanmar显示文摘Background:Lymphatic filariasis(LF)is endemic in Myanmar and targeted for elimination.To highlight the National Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis(NPELF)progress between 2000 and 2014,this paper describes the geographical distribution of LF,the scale-up and impact of mass drug administration(MDA)implementation,and the first evidence of the decline in transmission in five districts.Methods:The LF distribution was determined by mapping historical and baseline prevalence data collected by NPELF.Data on the MDA implementation,reported coverage rates and sentinel site surveillance were summarized.A statistical model was developed from the available prevalence data to predict prevalence at township level by year of measurement.Transmission assessment survey(TAS)methods,measuring antigenemia(Ag)prevalence in children,were used to determine whether prevalence was below a level where recrudescence is unlikely to occur.Results:The highest baseline LF prevalence was found in the Central Valley region.The MDA implementation activities scaled up to cover 45 districts,representing the majority of the endemic population,with drug coverage rates ranging from 60.0%to 98.5%.Challenges related to drug supply and local conflict were reported,and interrupted MDA in some districts.Overall,significant reductions in LF prevalence were found,especially after the first 2 to 3 rounds of MDA,which was supported by the corresponding model.The TAS activities in five districts found only two Ag positive children,resulting in all districts passing the critical threshold.Conclusion:Overall,the Myanmar NPELF has made positive steps forward in the elimination of LF despite several challenges,however,it needs to maintain momentum,drawing on international stakeholder support,to aim towards the national and global goals of elimination.Ni Ni Aye Zaw Lin Khin Nan Lon Nay Yi Yi Linn Thet Wai Nwe Khin Mon Mon Kapa Ramaiah Hannah Betts Louise A.Kelly-Hope 2018Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018,7,1:1

6Efficient Protein-based Bait Formulation for Attraction and Feeding Response of Fruit Flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) in Myanmar显示文摘Protein baitsprays were produced from many different sources for the controlling fruit flies in the integrated pest management program around the world.Here,fruit fly baits were formulated based on cost-effective bait mixtures such as local jaggery,brewers spent grain(BSG),apple cider vinegar,wheat bran powder and local red wine with the fresh enzyme from papaya and pineapple.Fruit fly Baits were prepared by mixing the small amount of local detergent as insecticide.Our results indicated that the best efficient fruit fly bait for area wide integrated pest management(AW-IPM)is the BSG-based bait whereas the second efficient bait is local red wine-based bait.The highest fruit fly per trap per day(FTD)value by BSG-based bait traps was discovered.The highest female captured percentage is BSG-based bait with papaya solution.The field analysis of one week and one month old protein-based bait showed that FTD values decreased slightly while only one month old wheat bran-based bait dropped to the base.The BSG-based baits analysis is effective not only female fruit flies but also cockroaches male in Myanmar’s tropical region.Thus our results reveal that the efficient protein-based bait is the fresh BSG-based bait with papaya solution.Kyaw Lin Maung Yin Yin Mon Myat Phyu Khine Khin Nyein Chan Aye Phyoe Aye Thandar Soe Aye Aye Khai 2019Journal of Life Sciences2019,13,2:0

8Participation of private general practitioners in disease management of malaria in Myanmar显示文摘Objective:Myanmar has been trying to improve the disease management of malaria through public health services. The involvement of private general practitioners(GPs) is recognized as one of the key contributory issues in malaria control,but no one has yet made an attempt to study the efficiency of their role.This study aimed to assess the participation of GPs in improvement of disease management.Methods:The study was conducted with all 32 GPs practicing at three randomly selected townships with high malaria load situated in Upper Myanmar from June 2006 to March 2007 using a pretest-posttest design to assess their knowledge of the disease management prior to and after intervention.The intervention package consisted of a one-day workshop on diagnosis and treatment of malaria and the supply of facilities for microscopy.Questionnaires filled in before and after tests were compared to assess the change of knowledge after the intervention.Diagnosis and treatment practice during the study period was analysed by review of registers kept by GPs,together with a follow-up survey of their patients for the reliability of data.Results:An overall improvement of knowledge was observed and significant changes were apparent for three variables:the criteria for referral of severe malaria,the effect of incomplete treatment and recommended treatment of Plasmodium vivax.Pre-test results showed that only 65.6%of GPs perceived microscopy or Rapid Diagnostic Test kits(RDTs) for confirmation of malaria necessary,while only 15.6%and 40.6%of the GPs knew the recommended treatments of falciparum and vivax malaria,respectively. However,after intervention 92%of the patients were diagnosed as malaria by RDTs and 3%by microscopy throughout the study.The GPs prescribed artemisinin-based combination therapy(ACTs) to 95%of confirmed falciparum cases and treated 82.4%of RDT confirmed falciparum negatives with chloroquine and primaquine.Concurrent with our study,an international NGO,Population Service International,supplied GPs with RDTs and ACTs at subsidized rate which was helpful.Conclusion:The study suggests that participation of GPs may help improve the disease management of malaria and thus assist in the country’s effort to control ma- laria.Thein Tun Zaw Win Tun Hla Soe Tint Khin Lin Thar Tun Kyaw Moe Kyaw Myint 2009Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2009,2,5:0
