The present study cultured rat hippocampal neurons with 1 nM gp120 V3 loop and 1 μM curcumin for 24 hours. | 2 | CdS magic-size clusters exhibiting one sharp ultraviolet absorption singlet peaking at 361 nm显示文摘We report,for the first time,the synthesis of CdS magic-size clusters (MSCs) which exhibit a single sharp absorption peaking at ~ 361 nm,along with sharp band edge photoemission at ~ 377 nm and broad trap emission peaking at ~ 490 nm.These MSCs are produced in a singleensemble form without the contamination of conventional quantum dots (QDs) and/or other-bandgap clusters.They are denoted as MSC-361.We present the details of several controlled syntheses done in oleylamine (OLA),using C,d(NO3)2 or C,d(OAc)2 as a C,d source and thioacetamide (TAA) or elementary sulfur (S) as a S source.A high synthetic reproducibility of the reaction of Cd(NO3)2 and TAA to single-ensemble MSC-361 is achieved,the product of which is not contaminated by other bandgap clusters and/or QDs.In some cases,the reaction product exhibits an additional absorption peak at ~ 322 nm.We demonstrate that the two peaks,at 361 and 322 nm,do not evolve synchronously.Therefore,the 322 nm peak is not a higher order electronic transition of MSC-361,but due to the presence of another ensemble,namely MSC-322.The present study suggests that there is an outstanding need for the development of a physical model to narrow the knowledge gap regarding the electronic structure in these colloidal semiconductor CdS MSCs. | Junbin Tang Juan Hui Meng Zhang Hongsong Fan Nelson Rowell Wen Huang Yingnan Jiang Xiaoqin Chen Kui Yu | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,6: | 1 |

| 7 | Pre-treatment Drug Resistance Could Impact the 96-Week Antiretroviral Efficacy in Treatment-Naive HIV-1–Infected Patients in Guangdong,China显示文摘Background:With the high prevalence of pre-treatment drug resistance(PDR)and the potential impact to the virological inhibition,the detection of PDR was particularly necessary.This study aimed to determine the prevalence of PDR in Guangdong,China,and its impact on antiretroviral therapy(ART)in treatment-naive HIV patients.Methods:A retrospective cohort study was conducted.A total of 1936 HIV-1-infected treatment-naive patients in the clinic of the infectious department,Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital,between August 2018 and December 2019 were assayed for PDR mutations before initiating ART.Patients with PDR mutations(PDR arm)were screened and compared with those without drug-resistant mutations(non-PDR arm).The rate of HIV-1 virologic failure(VF)and CD4^(+)T-cell counts of the 2 arms were compared at the 96th week after ART to evaluate the impact of PDR on the efficacy of ART.Results:Pretreatment drug resistance was detected in 125 cases(6.46%)from the 1936 enrolled participants,most of which were resistant to non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors(64.00%,80/125).One hundred and eight of 125 completed the follow-up of 96 weeks(PDR arm).In this cohort,52 patients whose ART regimen containing the resistant drug were grouped as con-PDR arm,and the remaining 56 patients whose ART regimen did not contain the resistant drug were grouped as non-con-PDR arm.A total of 125 patients without PDR were randomly selected as the control group(non-PDR arm),112 of whom had completed the 96-week followup.At the 96th week after ART initiation,7 patients(6.5%,7/108)in the PDR arm and 1 patient(0.9%,1/112)in the non-PDR arm developed VF,exhibiting a significant difference(χ^(2)=4.901,P=0.029).Meanwhile,3 patients(5.8%,3/52)in the con-PDR arm developed VF;the rate was also higher than that in the non-PDR arm,but without a significant difference(χ^(2)=3.549,P=0.095).The CD4^(+)T-cell count in the non-PDR arm increased more than the PDR arm(386.6 vs.319.1 cells/μL,t=2.448,P=0.015)or the con-PDRarm(386.6 vs.325.1 cells/μL,t=1.821,P=0.070)at 12weeks afterART.However,no significant differenceswere observed in the CD4^(+)T-cell count from the 24th week after ART onward.Conclusions:Pretreatment drug resistance was moderately prevalent in Guangdong,China,and could affect the antiretroviral efficacy during a 96-week observation period,indicating the need to closely monitor PDR before ART initiation. | Pengle Guo Yun Lan Quanmin Li Xuemei Ling Junbin Li Xiaoping Tang Fengyu Hu Weiping Cai Linghua Li | 2022 | Infectious Diseases & Immunity2022,2,4: | 0 |
| 8 | Differential Transcriptomic Landscapes of SARS-CoV-2 Variants in Multiple Organs from Infected Rhesus Macaques显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)caused the persistent coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,which has resulted in millions of deaths worldwide and brought an enormous public health and global economic burden.The recurring global wave of infections has been exacerbated by growing variants of SARS-CoV-2.In this study,the virological characteristics of the original SARS-CoV-2 strain and its variants of concern(VOCs;including Alpha,Beta,and Delta)in vitro,as well as differential transcriptomic landscapes in multiple organs(lung,right ventricle,blood,cerebral cortex,and cerebellum)from the infected rhesus macaques,were elucidated.The original strain of SARS-CoV-2 caused a stronger innate immune response in host cells,and its VOCs markedly increased the levels of subgenomic RNAs,such as N,Orf9b,Orf6,and Orf7ab,which are known as the innate immune antagonists and the inhibitors of antiviral factors.Intriguingly,the original SARS-CoV-2 strain and Alpha variant induced larger alteration of RNA abundance in tissues of rhesus monkeys than Beta and Delta variants did.Moreover,a hyperinflammatory state and active immune response were shown in the right ventricles of rhesus monkeys by the up-regulation of inflammation-and immune-related RNAs.Furthermore,peripheral blood may mediate signaling transmission among tissues to coordinate the molecular changes in the infected individuals.Collectively,these data provide insights into the pathogenesis of COVID-19 at the early stage of infection by the original SARS-CoV-2 strain and its VOCs. | Tingfu Du Chunchun Gao Shuaiyao Lu Qianlan Liu Yun Yang Wenhai Yu Wenjie Li Yong Qiao Sun Cong Tang Junbin Wang Jiahong Gao Yong Zhang Fangyu Luo Ying Yang Yun-Gui Yang Xiaozhong Peng | 2023 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2023,21,5: | 0 |
| 9 | Deciphering controversial results of cell proliferation on TiO2 nanotubes using machine learning显示文摘With the rapid development of biomedical sciences,contradictory results on the relationships between biological responses and material properties emerge continuously,adding to the challenge of interpreting the incomprehensible interfacial process.In the present paper,we use cell proliferation on titanium dioxide nanotubes(TNTs)as a case study and apply machine learning methodologies to decipher contradictory results in the literature.The gradient boosting decision tree model demonstrates that cell density has a higher impact on cell proliferation than other obtainable experimental features in most publications.Together with the variation of other essential features,the controversy of cell proliferation trends on various TNTs is understandable.By traversing all combinational experimental features and the corresponding forecast using an exhausted grid search strategy,we find that adjusting cell density and sterilization methods can simultaneously induce opposite cell proliferation trends on various TNTs diameter,which is further validated by experiments.This case study reveals that machine learning is a burgeoning tool in deciphering controversial results in biomedical researches,opening up an avenue to explore the structure-property relationships of biomaterials. | Ziao Shen Si Wang Zhenyu Shen Yufei Tang Junbin Xu Changjian Lin Xun Chen Qiaoling Huang | 2021 | Regenerative Biomaterials2021,8,4: | 0 |
