1Lymphocyte subsets predictive value and possible involvement of human papilloma virus infection on breast cancer molecular subtypes显示文摘AIM To detect human papilloma virus(HPV) presence and to characterize cellular immune response in breast cancer patients. METHODS A total of 74 women were included, of which 48 samples were from patients diagnosed with breast cancer and 26 patients with benign pathology of the breast. Molecular subtype classification was performed based on the immunohistochemical reports of the tumor piece. HPV genome detection and genotyping from fresh breast biopsies was performed using the INNO-LIPA HPV Genotyping Extra test(Innogenetics, Ghent, Belgium). CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and natural killer(NK)+ cells levels from peripheral blood samples from patients with breast cancer and benign pathology were measured by flow cytometry. RESULTS Luminal A was the most frequent breast cancer molecular subtype(33.33%). HPV was detected in 25% of the breast cancer patients, and genotype 18 was the most frequent in the studied population. The mean of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ subpopulations were decreased in patients with breast cancer, in relation to those with benign pathology, with a statistically significant difference in CD8+ values(P = 0.048). The mean of NK+ cells was increased in the benign pathology group. The average level of CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and NK+ cells decreased as the disease progressed. HER2+ and Luminal B HER2+ tumors had the lowest counts of cell subsets. HPV breast cancer patients had elevated counts of cellular subsets. 2壳聚糖基皮革抗菌涂层的研究(续)显示文摘自抗菌类涂料在鞋材中应用以来,引起了制造商和消费者的极大兴趣。研究利用壳聚糖固有的抗菌活性和成膜性制备皮革抗菌材料。考虑到皮革鞣制的特殊性,采用不同的涂饰技术,如转鼓浸渍、辊涂和喷涂。结果表明,采用转鼓浸渍的方法效果最佳。进一步研究了转鼓浸渍涂饰方法中壳聚糖的用量、增溶酸剂的类型和浸渍时间,对抗菌剂抗菌能力的影响。由于壳聚糖价格昂贵(成本原因)以及对最终试验结果(采用SEM考察了抗菌能力和成膜效果)的分析,得出最佳方案:壳聚糖用量为1%(w/v),溶剂为甲酸,转鼓浸渍时间为2h。Isabel P. 5裸鼠皮下人体胎儿小肠培育模型显示文摘目的 建立人体胎儿小肠 裸鼠异种培育模型 ,以用于人体小肠发育分化等的研究。方法 将 15例流产后的胎儿小肠 (胎龄 18~ 2 2周 )分割成每 6cm长的移植肠段共 70段 ,埋入 70只裸鼠 (年龄 4~ 6周 )背部皮下 ,在术后 4~ 6周 ,10周及 6个月分别活检行组织学检查。结果 术后 6个月有 2 4例模型的小肠显微结构同新生儿小肠 ,占模型 (6 6个存活裸鼠 )的 36 .4%。结论 裸鼠皮下人体胎儿小肠可以培育存活 。陈戟 Isabel Fernande 施诚仁 张忠德 蔡威 W.Allan Walker 2001中华小儿外科杂志2001,22,4:1

11Emerging role of liquid biopsy in rat sarcoma virus mutated metastatic colorectal cancer:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND In patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC),the treatment options are limited and have been proved to be affected by rat sarcoma virus(RAS)mutational status.In RAS wild-type(wt)patients,the combination of antiepidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)monoclonal antibodies with chemotherapy(CT)is more effective than CT alone.On the other hand,RAS-mutated patients are not eligible for treatment with anti-EGFR antibodies.CASE SUMMARY Eleven patients with initially RAS-mutated mCRC were followed from diagnosis to May 2022.At the time of cell-free DNA determination,five patients had undergone one CT line,five patients had undergone two CT lines,and one patient had undergone three CT lines(all in combination with bevacizumab).At the second and third treatment lines[second line(2L),third line(3L)],patients with neo-RAS wt received a combination of CT and cetuximab.In neo-RAS wt patients treated with anti-EGFR,our findings indicated an increase in progression-free survival for both 2L and 3L(14.5 mo,P=0.119 and 3.9 mo,P=0.882,respectively).Regarding 2L overall survival,we registered a slight increase in neo-RAS wt patients treated with anti-EGFR(33.6 mo vs 32.4 mo,P=0.385).At data cut-off,two patients were still alive:A RAS-mutated patient undergoing 3L treatment and a neo-RAS wt patient who received 2L treatment with anti-EGFR(ongoing).CONCLUSION Our case series demonstrated that monitoring RAS mutations in mCRC by liquid biopsy may provide an additional treatment line for neo-RAS wt patients.João Gramaça Isabel Gomes Fernandes Carolina Trabulo Joana Gonçalves Rita Gameiro dos Santos Adriano Baptista Idília Pina 2024World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2024,16,1:0
12Relation of COVID-19 with liver diseases and their impact on healthcare systems:The Portuguese case显示文摘BACKGROUND The impact caused by the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)on the Portuguese population has been addressed in areas such as clinical manifestations,frequent comorbidities,and alterations in consumption habits.However,comorbidities like liver conditions and changes concerning the Portuguese population's access to healthcare-related services have received less attention.AIM To(1)Review the impact of COVID-19 on the healthcare system;(2)examine the relationship between liver diseases and COVID-19 in infected individuals;and(3)investigate the situation in the Portuguese population concerning these topics.METHODS For our purposes,we conducted a literature review using specific keywords.RESULTS COVID-19 is frequently associated with liver damage.However,liver injury in COVID-19 individuals is a multifactor-mediated effect.Therefore,it remains unclear whether changes in liver laboratory tests are associated with a worse prognosis in Portuguese individuals with COVID-19.CONCLUSION COVID-19 has impacted healthcare systems in Portugal and other countries;the combination of COVID-19 with liver injury is common.Previous liver damage may represent a risk factor that worsens the prognosis in individuals with COVID-19.Sara Fernandes Milaydis Sosa-Napolskij Graça Lobo Isabel Silva 2023World Journal of Gastroenterology2023,29,6:0
13Roots and rhizomes of wild Asparagus:Nutritional composition,bioactivity and nanoencapsulation of the most potent extract显示文摘The nutritional composition and bioactive properties of roots and rhizomes of Asparagus stipularis were evaluated.Antioxidant activity of extracts obtained by infusion was evaluated using free radicals scavenging and reducing power methods.Porcine liver primary cell was used to check the hepatotoxicity of infusions.Results revealed that Asparagus samples are likely a source of nutrients,such as dietary fibre and essential fatty acids.HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS characterization of infusions allowed the identification and quantitation of 7 phenolic compounds,all hydroxycinnamoyl derivatives,with caffeic acid as the most abundant.Roots infusion contained the highest amounts of these compounds.It also exhibited the highest antioxidant activity in all assays,with EC_(50) values of 0.44±0.01,0.98±0.03 and 0.64±0.01 mg/mL for DPPH,ABTS and FRAP assays,respectively,with no toxicity towards PLP2 primary cell cultures(GI_(50)>400μg/mL).PLGA nanoparticles loaded with root extract were prepared using solvent-evaporation double emulsion method.Nanoparticles size was about 260 nm and a polydispersity index around 0.1,with a zeta potential of about-36 mV,as well as a good encapsulation efficiency of approximately 83%.Their morphology was analysed by SEM and spherical polymeric nanoparticles with a smooth surface were observed.FTIR and DSC were also performed,which allowed corroborating the efficacy of the encapsulation and to confirm the production of a stable and robust system to load Asparagus extracts.The developed nanoparticles are expected to be used as delivery systems for bioactive compounds of A.stipularis and they could be used as an innovative dietary supplement.Khaoula Adouni Ana Júlio Celestino Santos-Buelga Ana M.Gonzalez-Paramas Patrícia Filipe Patricia Rijo Sofia A.Costa Lima Salette Reis Angela Fernandes Isabel C.F.R.Ferreira Virginia Fernandez-Ruiz Patricia Morales Guido Flamini Lotfi Achour Pedro Fonte 2022Food Bioscience2022,45,1:0
14Carbon Footprint of Tourism Sector in Portugal-Calculator Development显示文摘A carbon footprint(CF)calculator was developed to apply to a Portuguese touristic accommodation to contribute to a sustainable touristic activity.Although some calculators are available online,they are related to the country reality or use outdated emission factors.A calculator based on national emission factors is important.The calculator was developed in Microsoft Excel(version 365)and is based on the CO2e emissions resulting from electricity,water,fuels and food use,laundry and waste production.The calculator development involved:study the accommodation emission sources,selection the environmental indicators,determination of the emission factors and development of the CF formulas.Total CF calculation was made considering the partial CF per component,a monthly and annual comparison of each indicator’s emissions contribution using graphs.The emissions amount per overnight stay,per room,per area,were also assessed and these values were transformed into global hectare(gha).Avoided emissions calculation gives the information about the efforts in CF reduction,and two indicators were considered:electricity production from renewable energy sources and the amount of separated waste for recycling.It was considered reforestation measures to achieve carbon neutrality.This calculator incorporates four components not often used:water,laundry,waste,food,and avoided emissions.Marco Fernandes Pedro Neves Patrícia Araújo Isabel Brás Elisabete Silva 2021Journal of Tourism and Hospitality Management2021,9,6:0
15Immunological mechanisms of fecal microbiota transplantation in recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection显示文摘Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)is a successful method for treating recurrent Clostridioides difficile(C.difficile)infection(rCDI)with around 90%efficacy.Due to the relative simplicity of this approach,it is being widely used and currently,thousands of patients have been treated with FMT worldwide.Nonetheless,the mechanisms underlying its effects are just beginning to be understood.Data indicate that FMT effectiveness is due to a combination of microbiological direct mechanisms against C.difficile,but also through indirect mechanisms including the production of microbiota-derived metabolites as secondary bile acids and short chain fatty acids.Moreover,the modulation of the strong inflammatory response triggered by C.difficile after FMT seems to rely on a pivotal role of regulatory T cells,which would be responsible for the reduction of several cells and soluble inflammatory mediators,ensuing normalization of the intestinal mucosal immune system.In this minireview,we analyze recent advances in these immunological aspects associated with the efficacy of FMT.Lucas F Soveral Gabriela G Korczaguin Pedro S Schmidt Isabel S Nunes Camilo Fernandes Carlos R Zarate-Blades 2022World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,33:0
