Oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene over Fe promoted Co–Mo/Al_2O_3 and Ni–Mo/Al_2O_3 catalysts using hydrogen peroxide and formic acid as oxidants显示文摘This work reports the enhancing effect of a highly cost effective and efficient metal, Fe, incorporation to Co or Ni based Mo/Al_2O_3 catalysts in the oxidative desulfurization(ODS) of dibenzothiophene(DBT) using H_2O_2 and formic acid as oxidants. The influence of operating parameters i.e. reaction time, catalyst dose, reaction temperature and oxidant amount on oxidation process was investigated. Results revealed that 99% DBT conversion was achieved at 60 °C and 150 min reaction time over Fe–Ni–Mo/Al_2O_3. Fe tremendously enhanced the ODS activity of Co or Ni based Mo/Al_2O_3 catalysts following the activity order: Fe–Ni–Mo/Al_2O_3 NFe–Co–Mo/Al_2O_3 NNi–Mo/Al_2O_3 NCo–Mo/Al_2O_3, while H_2O_2 exhibited higher oxidation activity than formic acid over all catalyst systems. Insight about the surface morphology and textural properties of fresh and spent catalysts were achieved using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), energy dispersive X-ray(EDX)analysis, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy(AAS) and BET surface area analysis, which helped in the interpretation of experimental data. The present study can be deemed as an effective approach on industrial level for ODS of fuel oils crediting to its high efficiency, low process/catalyst cost, safety and mild operating condition. | Yaseen Muhammad Ayesha Shoukat Ata Ur Rahman Haroon Ur Rashid Waqas Ahmad | 2018 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2018,26,3: | 3
Luminous composite ultrathin films of CdTe quantum dots/silk fibroin co-assembled with layered doubled hydroxide:Enhanced photoluminescence and biosensor application显示文摘Quantum dots(QDs)luminescent films are extensively applied to optoelectronics and optical devices. However,QDs aggregation results in the quenching of their fluorescence property which limits their practical applications to a greater extent. In order to resolve this issue,3-mercaptopropionic acid(3-MPA)functionalized Cadmium Tellurium(CdTe)QDs were stabilized by silk fibroin(SB)and coassembled with layered doubled hydroxide(LDH)to form(QDs@SF/LDH)_(n)ultrathin films(UTFs)via the layer-by-layer(LBL)technique.UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy showed a stepwise and normal growth of the films upon increasing the number of deposition cycles.XRD and AFM studies confirmed the formation of a periodic layered structure and regular surface morphology of the thin films. As compared to(CdTe QDs/LDH)_(n)UTFs,the(CdTe QDs@SF/LDH)_(n)UTFs displayed fluorescence enhancement and longer fluorescent lifetime, both in solid states and aqueous solutions.Furthermore compared with the solution state, the fluorescence enhancement of SF-RC and SF-β are,respectively,7 times and 17 times in the(CdTe QDs@SF/LDH)_(n)UTFs,indicating that the LDH nanosheets favor the fluorescence enhancement effect on the CdTe QDs@SF.The fabricated materials displayed fluorescence response to a biological molecule such as immune globulin,lgG.Thus, the(CdTe QDs@SF/LDH)_(n)UTFs has a potential to be used as biosensor. | Muhammad Sohail Haroone Ling Li Aftab Ahmad Yaping Huang Ruili Ma Ping Zhang Yuehua Hu Qari Muhammad Kaleem Jun Lu | 2018 | Journal of Materiomics2018,4,2: | 3
Why more research needs to be done on echinococcosis in Pakistan显示文摘Background:Echinococcosis has a worldwide geographical distribution with endemic foci on every inhabited continent.Due to the frequent outbreaks in different parts of Pakistan in the recent past, echinococcosis is being described as a neglected tropical disease and is considered one of the most neglected parasitic diseases in the country. In endemic regions, predominantly settings with limited resources, there are high numbers of echinococcosis patients,as these communities do not have access to appropriate treatment. In Pakistan, there are limited reports on echinococcosis. The disease is prevalent in human and livestock, but this has not been sufficiently explored yet.Pakistan is an agricultural country and due to the disease’s zoonotic mode of transmission, there is a dire need of future research on it.The present paper is an effort to highlight the importance of echinococcosis in Pakistan.Discussion:There is a dire need for future research on echinococcosis in Pakistan as very few investigations had been carried out on this topic thus far.The prevalence of the disease in neighbouring countries highlights that Pakistan might be at severe risk of this zoonotic infection and further supports the need for more research. In Pakistan, the majority of the population lives in rural areas with limited acess to proper hygienic/sanitary facilities. These conditions favour the outbreak of diseases such as echinococcosis. The limited available data could result in higher outbreaks in the future, and thus cause the already weak healthcare system to overburden. The country has a meagre annual budget for health, which is being spent on known infections such as polio, dengue fever and hepatic viral infections.A proper surveillance system for echinococcosis is required across the country as treatment is usually expensive, complicated and may require extensive surgery and/or prolonged drug therapy.Development of new/novel drugs and other treatment modalities receives very little,if any, attention.Prognostic awareness programmes against this infection involve deworming of the infected animals, improved food inspection and slaughterhouse hygiene, and public education campaigns. Conclusion:Future research on echinococcosis is anticipated to demonstrate whether the epidemiology, diagnosis and recombinant vaccines/antibodies relating to echinococcosis can meet the quality standards(purity, potency, safety and efficacy)defined by the World Health Organization.Research work should be carried out on the epidemiology and serodiagnosis of echinocossis in the different areas of Pakistan, which will be useful for the proper eradication of echinococcosis in this region. The health department should implement awareness-raising campaigns for the general public in order to reduce the burden of disease. | Haroon Ahmed Shahzad Ali Muhammad Sohail Afzal Abid Ali Khan Hamid Raza Zaheer Hussain Shah Sami Simsek | 2017 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1: | 2

In vivo screening of essential oils of Skimmia laureola leaves for antinociceptive and antipyretic activity显示文摘Objective:To study the screening of essential oils of Skimmia laureola leaves(SLO)for acute toxicity, antinociceptive, antipyretic and anticonvulsant activities in various animal models. Methods:SLO were extracted using modified Clevenger type apparatus.Acute toxicity test was used in mice to observe its safety level.Antinociceptive activity of SLO was evaluated in acetic acid induced writhing and hot plate tests.Yeast induced hyperthermic mice and pentylenetetrazole induced convulsive mice were used for the assessment of its antipyretic and anticonvulsant profile respectively. Results:Substantial safety was observed for SLO in acute toxicity test.SLO showed a high significant activity in acetic acid induced writhing test in a dose dependent manner with maximum pain attenuation of 68.48%at 200 mg/kg i.p.However,it did not produce any relief in thermal induced pain at test doses. When challenged against pyrexia evoked by yeast,SLO manifested marked amelioration in hyperthermic mice, dose dependently.Maximum anti-hyperthermic activity(75%)was observed at 200 mg/kg i.p.after 4 h of drug administration.Nevertheless,SLO had no effect on seizures control and mortality caused by pentylenetetrazole. Conclusions:In vivo studies of SLO showed prominent antinociceptive and antipyretic activities with ample safety profile and thus provided pharmacological base for the traditional uses of the plant in various painful conditions and pyrexia.Additional detail studies are required to ascertain its clinical application. | Naveed Muhammad Barkatullah Muhammad Ibrar Haroon Khan Muhammad Saeed Amir Zada Khan Waqar Ahmad Kaleem | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,3: | 2
Genetic effects conferring heat tolerance in upland cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.)显示文摘Background:Climate change and particularly global warming has emerged as an alarming threat to the crop productivity of field crops and exerted drastic effects on the cropping patterns.Production of cotton has been dropped down to one million bales from 1.4 million bales since 2015 in Pakistan due to the increase in temperature at critical growth stages,i.e.,flowering and boll formation.Keeping in view the importance of cotton in the country, this study was conducted to investigate the genetic effects conferring heat tolerance in six populations(P1,P2,F1,F2,BC1 and BC2)developed from cross-1 and cross-2,i.e.,VH-282×FH-142 and DNH-40×VH-259.Results:The results revealed that cross-1 performed better in heat stress as compared with cross-2 for majority of the traits recorded.Boll weight and ginning outturn(GO-T)were highly effected under heat stress and had negative correlation with Relative cell injury(RCI).Boll weight, fiber length, fiber strength and fiber fineness were under the control of non-additive gene action, whereas RCI was controlled by additive gene effects.Lower values of genetic advance coupled with higher values of broad sense heritability for these traits except RCI confirmed the role of non-additive genetic effects.Duplicate types of epistasis were recorded for fiber strength in cross-1 in normal condition. However, complementary type of non-allelic interaction was recorded for fiber strength under normal condition, fiber fineness and RCI under heat stressed condition in cross-1.Likewise,boll weight,GOT and fiber length in populations derived from cross-2 in normal condition were also under the influence of complementary type of non-allelic interaction.Significant differences among values of mid parent and better parent heterosis for boll weight in both normal and heat stress condition provided the opportunity to cotton breeders for utilization of this germplasm for improvement of this trait through exploitation of heterosis breeding.Conclusion:Cross-1 performed better in heat stress and could be utilized for development of heat tolerant cultivar.RCI was under the influence of additive gene action,so one can rely on this trait for screening of large number of accessions of cotton for heat stress. While other traits were predominantly controlled by non-additive gene action and selection based on these should be delayed in later generations. | SALMAN Muhammad ZIA Zia Ullah RANA Iqrar Ahmad MAQSOOD Rana Haroon AHMAD Saghir BAKHSH Ali AZHAR Muhammad Tehseen | 2019 | Journal of Cotton Research2019,2,1: | 2
Dramatic response of hepatitis C patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus genotype 3 to sofosbuvirbased therapies in Punjab, Pakistan: A prospective study显示文摘AIM To prospectively evaluate the efficacy of sofobuvir(SOF) in hepatitis C patients infected with hepatitis C virus(HCV) genotype 3 in Pakistan.METHODS The present study was performed with the coordination of gastroenterology and pathology departments of Shalamar Hospital Lahore from August 2014 to May 2016. The total number of patients included in this study was 1375 and all of them were infected with HCV genotype 3. On the basis of drug combinations, all the patients were separated into two groups. The first group of patients was treated for 24 wk with SOF(Sovaldi? by Gilead Sciences) plus ribavirin(RBV) [Ribazol? by Getz Pharma Pakistan(PVT) Ltd], while the patients of the second group were treated with SOF + RBV + pegylatedinterferon(peg IFN) alfa-2 a(Ropegra by Roach) for 12 wk. HCV genotyping and viral load measurement were performed on fully automated Abbott Real-Time PCR system(Abbott m24 sp automated nucleic acid extraction system and Abbott m2000 rt amplification system; abbott Molecular, Des Plaines, IL, United States). For the assessment of sustained virological response(SVR), all HCV RNA negative patients were followed for 12weeks after the treatment completion. Any patient with less than 12 IU/m L viral load after 12 wk of treatment completion was considered as a sustained virological responder(SVR-12).RESULTS A total of 1375 patients chronically infected with HCV genotype 3 were treated with two drug combinations SOF + RBV and SOF + RBV + peg IFN alfa-2 a. On the basis of these drug combinations, patients were divided into two groups(first and second). Overall SVR-12 was excellent in both groups(99.17% and 97.91%). Older patients(> 40 years) of second group showed lower SVR-12(93.46%) compared to first group older patients(98.79%), while in the younger patients of both groups, the SVR-12 rate was almost the same(99.54% in first group and 99.05% in second group). No such difference regarding SVR-12 rate was seen in males and females of first group patients(99.68% and 98.88%, respectively), while in second group the males were found to be better responders compared to females(98.96% and 95%). The SVR-12 rate in previously treated patients of first group was better(99.34%) than second group(93.70%), while na?ve patients of second group were marginally better responders(99.25%) than first group(97.80%). Rapid viral response at week-4 was found to be a very effective predictor for assessing the SVR rate at this stage of therapy in both groups. Headache, anemia and fatigue were common side effects in both groups either treated with SOF + RBV or SOF + RBV + peg IFN alfa-2 a, while the overall percentage of the side effects was higher in second group.CONCLUSION The remarkable SVR response rate of HCV genotype 3 infected patients to SOF provided a new way to look forward to eliminate hepatitis C from our region. | Sajjad Iqbal Muhammad Haroon Yousuf Muhammad Iftikhar Yousaf | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,44: | 2
A hybrid circuit breaker with fault current limiter circuit in a VSC-HVDC application显示文摘A conventional hybrid circuit breaker(HCB)is used to protect a voltage source converter-based high voltage direct current transmission system(VSC-HVDC)from a short circuit fault. With the increased converter capacity, the DC protection equipment also requires a regular upgrade. This paper adopts a novel type of HCB with a fault current limiter circuit(FCLC),and focuses on the responses of voltage and current during DC faults, which are associated with parameter selection.PSCAD/EMTDC based simulation of a three-terminal VSC-HVDC system confirms the effectiveness and value of HCB with FCLC,by using an equivalent circuit modelling approach.Laboratory experimental tests validate the simulation results. The peak fault current is reduced according to the current limiting inductor(CLI)increase, and can be isolated more quickly.By adopting parallel metal oxide arrester(MOA)with the main branch of HCB,voltage stresses across the breaker components decrease during transient and continuous operation, and less energy needs to be dissipated by the MOA.The remnant current for all cases is transmitted to power dissipating resis-tor(PDR)in the final stage, and the fault current is reduced to the lowest possible value. When the current from the main branch is transferred to the FCLC branch, transient voltage spikes occur, while smaller PDR is required to absorb current in the final stage. | Muhammad Ahmad Chunyang Gong Muhammad Haroon Nadeem Hui Chen Zhixin Wang | 2022 | Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems2022,7,1: | 1

Knowledge, attitudes and practices related to cystic echinococcosis endemicity in Pakistan显示文摘Background:Cystic echinococcosis(CE)is a human and animal health problem in many endemic areas worldwide. It is considered a neglected zoonotic disease caused by the larval form(hydatid cyst)of Echinococcus spp.tapeworm.There are limited studies on echinococcosis in Pakistan. Methods:A cross-sectional survey was conducted to find out recent knowledge, attitudes and practices on the occurrence of cystic echinococcosis in butchers and dog owners in both urban and rural areas of Rawalpindi/Islamabad regions,Pakistan. The quantitative data was collected in the form of questionnaires to investigate the knowledge and awareness of CE among community members and their routine practices that were behind the factors involved in hydatid cyst infection. The practices and infrastructure of abattoirs/butcher shops and their role in transmission of cystic echinococcosis were also evaluated in the present study. Results:The participants involved in the study were dog owners and people who kept animals.A total of 400 people were interviewed and 289 questionnaires were received. The results showed that only 4.1%of people have heard about the disease, and 58.1%were closely associated with dogs.Sixty-three percent of dogs in study area were consuming uncooked organs(e.g.liver,lung,etc.)of slaughtered animals, while 100%of dogs at butcher shops were consuming uncooked organs.Home slaughtering was common in 20.06%.Among butchers,32.3%had heard about zoonoses and 7.61%knew about CE.The statistical analysis showed that there was highly significant difference(P<0.05)among most of the practices that were associated with the prevalence of CE.Conclusions:It was concluded from the present study that, the knowledge and awareness of CE among people of Rawalpindi/Islamabad were low.Because of dogs and poor knowledge of CE among community members and butchers, the transmission of echinococcosis is facilitated. Therefore, there is urgent need to strengthen awareness and health education among people,as well as proper practices related to the CE not only in the study area, but also in other areas of Pakistan. | Aisha Khan Kashf Naz Haroon Ahmed Sami Simsek Muhammad Sohail Afzal Waseem Haider Sheikh Saeed Ahmad Sumaira Farrakh Wu Weiping Guan Yayi | 2018 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018,7,1: | 1
Privacy and security federated reference architecture for Internet of Things显示文摘Physical objects are getting connected to the Internet at an exceptional rate, making the idea of the Internet of Things(IoT)a reality. The IoT ecosystem is evident everywhere in the form of smart homes, health care systems, wearables, connected vehicles, and industries. This has given rise to risks associated with the privacy and security of systems.Security issues and cyber attacks on IoT devices may potentially hinder the growth of IoT products due to deficiencies in the architecture. To counter these issues,we need to implement privacy and security right from the building blocks of IoT.The IoT architecture has evolved over the years, improving the stack of architecture with new solutions such as scalability, management, interoperability, and extensibility. This emphasizes the need to standardize and organize the IoT reference architecture in federation with privacy and security concerns. In this study,we examine and analyze 12 existing IoT reference architectures to identify their shortcomings on the basis of the requirements addressed in the standards. We propose an architecture, the privacy-federated IoT security reference architecture(PF-IoT-SRA),which interprets all the involved privacy metrics and counters major threats and attacks in the IoT communication environment. It is a step toward the standardization of the domain architecture. We effectively validate our proposed reference architecture using the architecture trade-off analysis method(ATAM),an industry-recognized scenario-based approach. | Musab KAMAL Imran RASHID Waseem IQBAL Muhammad Haroon SIDDIQUI Sohaib KHAN Ijaz AHMAD | 2023 | Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2023,24,4: | 1

Improved Hybrid Deep Collaborative Filtering Approach for True Recommendations显示文摘Recommendation services become an essential and hot research topic for researchers nowadays.Social data such asReviews play an important role in the recommendation of the products.Improvement was achieved by deep learning approaches for capturing user and product information from a short text. However, such previously used approaches do not fairly and efficiently incorporate users’preferences and product characteristics. The proposed novel Hybrid Deep Collaborative Filtering(HDCF)model combines deep learning capabilities and deep interaction modeling with high performance for True Recommendations. To overcome the cold start problem, the new overall rating is generated by aggregating the Deep Multivariate Rating DMR(Votes,Likes,Stars, and Sentiment scores of reviews)from different external data sources because different sites have different rating scores about the same product that make confusion for the user to make a decision, either product is truly popular or not.The proposed novel HDCF model consists of four major modules such as User Product Attention,Deep Collaborative Filtering,Neural Sentiment Classifier, and Deep Multivariate Rating(UPA-DCF+NSC+DMR)to solve the addressed problems.Experimental results demonstrate that our novel model is outperforming state-of-the-art IMDb,Yelp2013,and Yelp2014 datasets for the true top-n recommendation of products using HDCF to increase the accuracy, confidence, and trust of recommendation services. | Muhammad Ibrahim Imran Sarwar Bajwa Nadeem Sarwar Haroon Abdul Waheed Muhammad Zulkifl Hasan Muhammad Zunnurain Hussain | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,3: | 1
Estimation of Genetic Divergence and Character Association Studies in Local and Exotic Diversity Panels of Soybean(Glycine max L.)Genotypes显示文摘The availability of favorable genetic diversity is a thriving vitality for the success of a breeding program. It provides a firm basis of selecting superior breeding lines for the development of high yielding crop genotypes. In this context, present investigation aimed to generate information on genetic divergence and character association in a diversity panel of 123 local and exotic soybean genotypes.Analysis of variance revealed significant response of the evaluated genotypes based on studied attributes. It depicted the probability of selecting desirable soybean genotypes by focusing on character association studies and genetic diversity analysis.Correlation analysis revealed that seed yield per plant showed high positive correlation with 100-seed weight followed by pods per plant and plant height.Furthermore, path coefficient analysis exposed that pods per plant had maximum direct contribution in seed yield per plant followed by 100-seed weight, days to flowering and SPAD measurement.Genotype named“G-10”showed maximum yield per plant followed by 24607,G-52,24593,Arisoy,24566,17426,A-3127,24570 and 24567.Genetic diversity analysis grouped the evaluated germplasm into 17 clusters. All clusters showed zero intra-cluster variability;while inter-cluster divergence ranged from 9.00 to 91.11.Cluster V showed maximum inter-cluster distance with cluster XII followed by that of between V and VIII.Moreover, cluster IV with superior genotypes(G-10,24607,24593 and 24566),VI(17426 and 24567),XIII(24570)and X(Arisoy and G-52)showed above mean values for most of the studied characters.Overall, the results of hybridization between the superior genotypes of these cluster pairs might be useful for soybean breeding with improving agronomic traits and adaptability. | Syed Ali Zafar Muhammad Aslam Haroon Zaman Khan Sehrish Sarwar Rao Saad Rehman Mariam Hassan Ramala Masood Ahmad Rafaqat AGill Basharat Ali Ibrahim Al-Ashkar Abdullah Ibrahim Md Atikur Rahman Ayman El Sabagh | 2023 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,6: | 0
