Factors influencing hybrid maize farmers' risk attitudes and their perceptions in Punjab Province,Pakistan显示文摘Hybrid maize farmers have to face diverse kinds of climate, biological, price and financial risks. Farmers' risk perceptions and risk attitudes are essential elements influencing farm operations and management decisions. However, this important issue has been overlooked in the contemporary studies and therefore there is a dearth of literature on this important issue. The present research is therefore, an attempt to fill this gap. This study aims to quantify hybrid maize farmers' perceptions of disastrous risks, their attitudes towards risk and to explore the impacts of various farm and farm household factors on farmers' risk attitudes and risk perceptions. The present study is conducted in four hybrid maize growing districts of Punjab Province, Pakistan, using cross-sectional data of 400 hybrid maize farmers. Risk matrix and equally likely certainty equivalent(ELCE) method are used to rank farmers' perceptions of four catastrophic risk sources including climate, biological, price and financial risks and to investigate farmers' risk aversion attitudes, respectively. Furthermore, probit regression is used to analyze the determinants affecting farmers' risk attitudes and risk perceptions. The results of the study showed that majority of farmers are risk averse in nature and perceive price, biological and climate to be potential sources of risks to their farm enterprise. In addition, analysis divulges that distance from farm to main market, off-farm income, location dummies for Sahiwal and Okara, age, maize farming experience, access to extension agent, significantly(either negatively or positively) influence farmers' risk attitudes and risk perceptions. The study delivers valuable insights for farmers, agricultural insurance sector, extension services researchers and agricultural policy makers about the local understanding of risks to hybrid maize crop in developing countries, like Pakistan, and have implications for research on farmers' adaptation to exposed risks. | Shoaib Akhtar LI Gu-cheng Raza Ullah Adnan Nazir Muhammad Amjed Iqbal Muhammad Haseeb Raza Nadeem Iqbal Muhammad Faisal | 2018 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2018,17,6: | 3
Application of Micronutrients in Rice-Wheat Cropping System of South Asia显示文摘Rice-wheat cropping system (RWCS) is one of the most important cropping systems in South Asia. However, sustainability of this system is under threat owing to several factors, of which deficiency of micronutrients particularly zinc (Zn), boron (B) and manganese (Mn) is one of the major problems. Continuous rotation of rice and wheat, imbalanced fertilizer use and little/no use of micronutrient-enriched fertilizers induce deficiencies of Zn, B and Mn in the RWCS of South Asia. Here we review that (i) imbalanced fertilizer use and organic matter depletion deteriorate soil structure resulting in low efficiency of applied macro- and micro-nutrients in RWCS.(ii) The micronutrients (Zn, B and Mn) are essentially involved in metabolism of rice and wheat plants, including chlorophyll synthesis, photosynthesis, enzyme activation and membrane integrity.(iii) Availability and uptake of Zn, B and Mn from rhizosphere depend on the physico-chemical soil properties (which differ under aerobic and anaerobic conditions) including soil pH, soil organic matter, soil moisture and interaction of these micronutrients with other nutrients.(iv) Plant ability to uptake and utilize the nutrients is affected by several plant factors such as root architecture, root hairs, transport kinetics parameter and root exudates.(v) Crop management and application of these microelements can help correct the micronutrients deficiency and enhance their grain concentration. | Faisal NADEEM Muhammad FAROOQ | 2019 | Rice science2019,26,6: | 1

Robust and Efficient Data Transmission over Noisy Communication Channels Using Stacked and Denoising Autoencoders显示文摘We study the effects of quantization and additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) in transmitting latent representations of images over a noisy communication channel. The latent representations are obtained using autoencoders(AEs). We analyze image reconstruction and classification performance for different channel noise powers, latent vector sizes, and number of quantization bits used for the latent variables as well as AEs’ parameters. The results show that the digital transmission of latent representations using conventional AEs alone is extremely vulnerable to channel noise and quantization effects. We then propose a combination of basic AE and a denoising autoencoder(DAE) to denoise the corrupted latent vectors at the receiver. This approach demonstrates robustness against channel noise and quantization effects and enables a significant improvement in image reconstruction and classification performance particularly in adverse scenarios with high noise powers and significant quantization effects. | Faisal Nadeem Khan Alan Pak Tao Lau | 2019 | China Communications2019,16,8: | 1

One-pot Multicomponent Synthesis, Spectroscopy, Crystal Structures and Theoretical Calculations of 3-Cyano-4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-6-phenyl-2(1H)-pyridinone and 3-Cyano-4-chlorophenyl-6-(4-tolyl)-2(1H)-pyridinone显示文摘Pyridinone derivatives are of great interest in medicinal chemistry where they were found to be potent to various diseases. Their metal complexes added more value to their applications. Here, we have synthesized two 2-pyridinone derivatives(3-cyano-4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-6-phenyl-2(1 H)-pyridinone and 3-cyano-4-chlorophenyl-6-(4-tolyl)-2(1 H)-pyridinone) using one-pot multicomponent system. They were well characterized using spectroscopic techniques like nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR-1 H & 13 C), Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) and UV/Vis spectroscopy. The final structures were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique which helps us to determine their geometries. Density functional theory(DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory(TD-DFT) with suitable basis-sets of calculations have correctly simulated these spectroscopic parameters. The intramolecular charge transfer(ICT) of both substrates has been discussed using natural bond orbital(NBO) technique. Molecular electrostatic potential(MEP) surfaces showed their reactive locations for intermolecular charge transfer. Compared to p-nitroaniline(pNA), both substrates were shown to have substantial molecular hyperpolarizability. | MUHAMMAD Nadeem Arshad HASSAN M.Faidallah ABDULLAH M.Asiri OSMAN I.Osman FAISAL M.S.Aqlan | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Structural Chemistry2019,38,3: | 0
Photokilling of waterborne-resistant pathogenic bacteria using cobalt-doped zinc oxide doped on reduced graphene oxide nanoparticles显示文摘This study is aimed at the chemical synthesis of light-activated cobalt-doped zinc oxide and its further doping on reduced graphene oxide(RGO)and assessment of its antibacterial activity on antibiotic-resistant waterborne pathogens including Enterococcus faecalis,Staphylococcus aureus,Klebsiella pneumonia, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized via UV–vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS).The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC)of nanoparticles portrayed a significant killing of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The synthesized nanoparticles were further found as active killers of bacteria in drinking water.Further, these nanoparticles were found photothermally active alongside ROS generators. The photokilling activity makes them ideal replacement candidates for traditional water filters. | Ameer Muhammad Khan Laiba Pervez Jonathan Celli Mutiullah Khattak Maqdad Ullah ZiaUllah Shah Muhammad Mustafa Khan Muhammad Nadeem Sulaiman Faisal Akhtar Nadhman | 2022 | Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences2022,15,4: | 0
Optimal Resource Allocation in Fog Computing for Healthcare Applications显示文摘In recent years, the significant growth in the Internet of Things(IoT)technology has brought a lot of attention to information and communication industry.Various IoT paradigms like the Internet of Vehicle Things(IoVT)and the Internet of Health Things(IoHT)create massive volumes of data every day which consume a lot of bandwidth and storage. However,to process such large volumes of data, the existing cloud computing platforms offer limited resources due to their distance from IoT devices.Consequently, cloudcomputing systems produce intolerable latency problems for latency-sensitive real-time applications. Therefore,a newparadigm called fog computingmakes use of computing nodes in the form of mobile devices, which utilize and process the real-time IoT devices data in orders of milliseconds. This paper proposes workload-aware efficient resource allocation and load balancing in the fog-computing environment for the IoHT.The proposed algorithmic framework consists of the following components:task sequencing, dynamic resource allocation, and load balancing. We consider electrocardiography(ECG)sensors for patient’s critical tasks to achieve maximum load balancing among fog nodes and to measure the performance of end-to-end delay, energy, network consumption and average throughput. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated using the iFogSim tool, and results with the existing approach have been conducted. The experimental results exhibit that the proposed technique achieves a 45%decrease in delay,37%reduction in energy consumption, and 25%decrease in network bandwidth consumption compared to the existing studies. | Salman Khan Ibrar Ali Shah Nasser Tairan Habib Shah Muhammad Faisal Nadeem | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,6: | 0
Metric Basis of Four-Dimensional Klein Bottle显示文摘The Metric of a graph plays an essential role in the arrangement of different dimensional structures and finding their basis in various terms. The metric dimension of a graph is the selection of the minimum possible number of vertices so that each vertex of the graph is distinctively defined by its vector of distances to the set of selected vertices. This set of selected vertices is known as the metric basis of a graph. In applied mathematics or computer science, the topic of metric basis is considered as locating number or locating set,and it has applications in robot navigation and finding a beacon set of a computer network.Due to the vast applications of this concept in computer science, optimization problems, and also in chemistry enormous research has been conducted. To extend this research to a four-dimensional structure,we studied the metric basis of the Klein bottle and proved that the Klein bottle has a constant metric dimension for the variation of all its parameters.Although the metric basis is variying in 3 and 4 values when the values of its parameter change,it remains constant and unchanged concerning its order or number of vertices. The methodology of determining the metric basis or locating set is based on the distances of a graph. Therefore,we proved the main theorems in distance forms. | Ali N.A.Koam Ali Ahmad Maryam Salem Alatawi Muhammad Azeem Muhammad Faisal Nadeem | 2023 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2023,,9: | 0
