| 14 | Risk factors for peripheral arterial disease in the tropics and its comparison with the western population显示文摘Objective:To identify and compare the existence of similar and other risk factors in the perspective of an Indian population.Methods:It was designed as a case control study and was conducted in the Department of General and Vascular Surgery Unit 2 of Christian Medical College,Vellore,India between the periods July 2003 to June 2005.100 patients with an ABPI< 0.9 and 100 controls were studied.Results:Peripheral arterial disease(PAD) was found to be commoner among males(87%).While atherosclerosis was the commonest aetiology(54%),the incidence of Thromboangiitis Obliterans was also not uncommon(38%).Smoking was the main risk factor in the Indian context(83%) as compared to hypercholesterolemia(60%) in the West. | 15 | Tissue and regional expression patterns of dicistronic tRNA–mRNA transcripts in grapevine (Vitis vinifera) and their evolutionary co-appearance with vasculature in land plants显示文摘Transfer RNAs(tRNA)are crucial adaptor molecules between messenger RNA(mRNA)and amino acids.Recent evidence in plants suggests that dicistronic tRNA-like structures also act as mobile signals for mRNA transcripts to move between distant tissues.Co-transcription is not a common feature in the plant nuclear genome and,in the few cases where polycistronic transcripts have been found,they include non-coding RNA species,such as small nucleolar RNAs and microRNAs.It is not known,however,the extent to which dicistronic transcripts of tRNA and mRNAs are expressed in field-grown plants,or the factors contributing to their expression.We analysed tRNA–mRNA dicistronic transcripts in the major horticultural crop grapevine(Vitis vinifera)using a novel pipeline developed to identify dicistronic transcripts from high-throughput RNA-sequencing data.We identified dicistronic tRNA–mRNA in leaf and berry samples from 22 commercial vineyards.Of the 124 tRNA genes that were expressed in both tissues,18 tRNA were expressed forming part of 19 dicistronic tRNA–mRNAs.The presence and abundance of dicistronic molecules was tissue and geographic sub-region specific.In leaves,the expression patterns of dicistronic tRNA–mRNAs significantly correlated with tRNA expression,suggesting that their transcriptional regulation might be linked.We also found evidence of syntenic genomic arrangements of tRNAs and protein-coding genes between grapevine and Arabidopsis thaliana,and widespread prevalence of dicistronic tRNA–mRNA transcripts among vascular land plants but no evidence of these transcripts in non-vascular lineages.This suggests that the appearance of plant vasculature and tRNA–mRNA occurred concurrently during the evolution of land plants. | Pastor Jullian Fabres Lakshay Anand Na Sai Stephen Pederson Fei Zheng Alexander A.Stewart Benjamin Clements Edwin R.Lampugnani James Breen Matthew Gilliham Penny Tricker Carlos M.Rodriguez Lopez Rakesh David | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021，8，1： | 0 |
| 16 | Transcriptional dysregulation in neurodegenerative diseases:who tipped the balance of Yin Yang 1 in the brain?显示文摘Yin Yang 1(YY1) is a multi-functional transcription factor that regulates gene expression in a range of cell types,including neurons.It controls neuronal differentiation,as well as neuronal specification and migration during the development of the mammalian nervous system.Besides,YY1 also mediates the transcription of genes that are required for neuronal survival.An impairment of the transcriptional function of YY1 causes neuronal death.This review summarizes recent research findings that unveil the dysfunction of YY1 in multiple neurodegenerative disorders.The expression of disease proteins perturbs the function of YY1 via distinct molecular mechanisms,including recruitment to protein aggregates,protein degradation and aberrant nuclear/cytoplasmic shuttling.Understanding the pathogenic roles of YY1 will further broaden our knowledge of the disease mechanisms in distinct neurodegenerative disorders. | Zhefan Stephen Chen Ho Yin Edwin Chan | 2019 | Neural Regeneration Research2019，14，7： | 0 |
| 17 | Controlled study of conventional surgery and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy for the treatment of primary SVI of lower limbs显示文摘Objective:To compare conventional surgery and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy for primary superficial venous insufficiency(SVI)with respect to obliteration of superficial venous system,clinical outcome and cost.Methods:The study was conducted between September 2005 and March 2006,in Surgery department of Christian Medical College Hospital,Vellore.All patients with symptomatic primary venous insufficiency of lower limbs requiring definitive management were randomized to conventional surgery(n=30)or ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy(n=30).Obliteration of superficial venous system at 3 months,clinical outcome and costs were registered.Results:Superficial venous system was obliterated in all the patients of both the groups at 3 months.Improvement in clinical scores and complication rates was similar in both the groups.The foam sclerotherapy group had less analgesic requirement,earlier return to work and lower cost.Conclusion:Foam sclerotherapy is a cheaper alternative to surgery for primary venous insufficiency with respect to early measures of clinical outcome. | Raguram Ganesamoni Mazda Turel Sunil Agarwal Edwin Stephen Vinu Moses Thomas Mammen | 2009 | 海南医学院学报2009，15，7： | 0 |
