1Characterization of focal liver lesions with SonoVue~-enhanced sonography: International multicenter-study in comparison to CT and MRI显示文摘AIM: To evaluate in a multicenter study whether the sonographic characterization of focal liver lesions can be improved using SonoVueüà-enhancement; and to compare this method with computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS: One hundred and thirty four patients with one focal liver lesion detected in baseline ultrasound (US) were examined with conventional US, contrastenhanced US (n = 134), contrast-enhanced CT (n = 115) and/or dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (n = 70). The lesions were classified as malignant, benign or indeterminate and the type of lesion was determined. The f inal diagnosis based on the combined information of all imaging examinations, clinical information and histology (n = 32) was used. Comparisons were made to see whether the addition of contrast-enhanced US led to the improvement of the characterization of doubtful focal liver lesions. RESULTS: In comparison with unenhanced US, SonoVue markedly improves sensitivity and specificity for the characterization (malignant/benign) of focal liver lesions. In comparison with CT and/or dynamic MRI, SonoVueüà -enhanced sonography applied for characterization of focal liver lesions was 30.2% more sensitive in the recognition of malignancy and 16.1% more specific in the exclusion of malignancy and overall 22.9% more accurate. In the subgroup with confirmative histology available (n = 30), sensitivity was 95.5% (CEUS), 72.2% (CT) and 81.8% (MRI), and specif icity was 75.0% (CEUS), 37.5% (CT) and 42.9% (MRI). The sensitivity and specif icity of CEUS for the identif ication of focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) and hemangiomas was 100% and 87%, resulting in an accuracy of 94.5%. 2Comparing outcomes for endoscopic submucosal dissection between Eastern and Western countries:A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘AIM To compare endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) outcomes between Eastern and Western countries.METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed using Pub Med,MEDLINE,Web of Science,CINAHL and EBM reviews to identify studies published between 1990 and February 2016. The primary outcome was the efficacy of ESD based on information about either curative resection,en bloc or R0 resection rates. Secondary outcomes were complication rates,local recurrence rates and procedure times. RESULTS Overall,238 publications including 84318 patients and 89512 gastrointestinal lesions resected using ESD were identified. 90% of the identified studies reporting ESDon 87296 lesions were conducted in Eastern countries and 10% of the identified studies reporting ESD outcomes in 2216 lesions were from Western countries. Meta-analyses showed higher pooled percentage of curative,en bloc,and R0 resection in the Eastern studies; 82%(CI: 81%-84%),95%(CI: 94%-96%) and 89%(CI: 88%-91%) compared to Western studies; 71%(CI: 61%-81%),85%(CI: 81%-89%) and 74%(CI: 67%-81%) respectively. The percentage of perforation requiring surgery was significantly greater in the Western countries(0.53%; CI: 0.10-1.16) compared to Eastern countries(0.01%; CI: 0%-0.05%). ESD procedure times were longer in Western countries(110 min vs 77 min).CONCLUSION Eastern countries show better ESD outcomes compared to Western countries. 3Discovery of Paleogene palynological assemblages from the Wanbaogou Group-complex in western part of the Eastern Kunlun orogenic belt and its geological significance显示文摘The Wanbaogou Group-complex is a suit of mélange aggregation of the Eastern Kunlun orogenic belt, which is divided into two parts, i.e. the exotic blocks and the matrix strata. Based on stromatolite fossils yielded in the exotic blocks, the age of this group-complex was once defined to the Precambrian. Recently, two Paleogene palynological assemblages have been found in samples from the matrix strata of the Upper Part in this group-complex by the authors: in ascending order, the Al- nipollenites-Quercoidites assemblage of Late Eocene and the Caryapollenites-Pinuspollenites as- semblage of Early Oligocene. Those results show that the matrix strata of this mélange were mainly formed in Paleogene, and the event causing mixture should be a Himalayan Movement Phase. This paper is designed to provide some detailed evidence for determining the age of the matrix strata in this group-complex based upon study at the Kunlunqiao Section, which would be of important geo- logical significance for further understanding this group-complex as a suit of mélange aggregation and establishing or improving the stratigraphic framework of the studied region. 4Diabetes and its negative impact on outcomes in orthopaedic surgery显示文摘An estimated 285 million adults(aged 20-79 years)worldwide were diagnosed to have diabetes mellitus(DM)in 2010,and this number is projected to grow to 439million adults by the year 2030.Orthopaedic surgeons,regardless of their subspecialty interest,will encounter patients with DM during their career since this epidemic involves both developed and emerging countries.Diabetes results in complications affecting multiple organ systems,potentially resulting in adverse outcomes afterorthopaedic surgery.The purpose of this review is to discuss the pathophysiology of DM and its potential for impacting orthopaedic surgery patients.Diabetes adversely affects the outcome of all orthopaedic surgery subspecialties including foot and ankle,upper extremity,adult reconstructive,pediatrics,spine surgery and sports medicine.Poorly controlled diabetes negatively impacts bone,soft tissue,ligament and tendon healing.It is the complications of diabetes such as neuropathy,peripheral artery disease,and end stage renal disease which contributes to adverse outcomes.Well controlled diabetic patients without comorbidities have similar outcomes to patients without diabetes.Orthopaedic surgeons should utilize consultants who will assist in inpatient glycemic management as well as optimizing long term glycemic control.Dane K Wukich 2015World Journal of Orthopedics2015,6,3:7

8Inhibition mechanism of compound ethanol extracts from Wuweizi(Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis) on renal interstitial fibrosis in diabetic nephropathy model mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate inhibition effect and mechanism of compound ethanol extracts from Wuweizi(Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis),Chuanxiong(Rhizoma Chuanxiong) and Muli(Cocha Ostreae)(FRC) on glomerular and tubular interstitial fibrosis in streptozocin(STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy(ND) model mice.METHODS:Twenty-seven male C57BL/6 mice were divided randomly into 3 groups:nondibetic(ND),STZ-induced diabetic(D),and STZ-induced diabetic that were treated with 5 g · kg-1 · day-1 of FRC by oral gavage(D FRC),with 9 in each group.The protein expressions of E-cadherin,α-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA),Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1(PAI-1) in renal tissues were investigated by Western blotting.The expressions of fibronectin(FN) and α-SMA were detected by immunohistochemical method.The morphological changes of renal tissues were observed under a microscope.RESULTS:Renal tissues in the D FRC group showed a lessened degree of fibrosis.Meanwhile,the expressions of FN,α-SMA and PAI-1were significantly lower in the D FRC group than those in the D group(all P<0.05).CONCLUSION:FRC can ameliorate the DN in the C57BL/6 mice,and its mechanism may relate to inhibition on the epithelial to mesenchymal transdifferentiation,endothelial-myofibroblast transition and PAI-1 expression.Yanqiu Zhang Daning Zhang Mianzhi Zhang 2012Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2012,32,4:6
9Automated defect analysis in electron microscopic images显示文摘Electron microscopy and defect analysis are a cornerstone of materials science,as they offer detailed insights on the microstructure and performance of a wide range of materials and material systems.Building a robust and flexible platform for automated defect recognition and classification in electron microscopy will result in the completion of analysis orders of magnitude faster after images are recorded,or even online during image acquisition.Automated analysis has the potential to be significantly more efficient,accurate,and repeatable than human analysis,and it can scale with the increasingly important methods of automated data generation.Herein,an automated recognition tool is developed based on a computer vison–based approach;it sequentially applies a cascade object detector,convolutional neural network,and local image analysis methods.We demonstrate that the automated tool performs as well as or better than manual human detection in terms of recall and precision and achieves quantitative image/defect analysis metrics close to the human average.The proposed approach works for images of varying contrast,brightness,and magnification.These promising results suggest that this and similar approaches are worth exploring for detecting multiple defect types and have the potential to locate,classify,and measure quantitative features for a range of defect types,materials,and electron microscopic techniques.Wei Li Kevin G.Field Dane Morgan 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:5
10Synthesis of high-purity silver nanorods with tunable plasmonic properties and sensor behavior显示文摘Through anisotropic Ag overgrowth on the surface of Au nanobipyramids(Au NBPs), high-purity and sizecontrolled Ag nanorods(Au/Ag NRs) are obtained by a simplified purification process. The diameters of the Au/Ag NRs are determined by the size of the as-prepared Au NBPs, and the lengths of the Au/Ag NRs are tunable using different amounts of Ag precursor in the growth solution. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) studies using Rhodamine-6G(R6G) as a test molecule indicate that the Au/Ag NRs have excellent sensing potential. 11Intercomparison of GPS radiosonde soundings during the eastern tropical Indian Ocean experiment显示文摘Temperature and relative humidity profiles derived from two China-made global positioning system(GPS)radiosondes(GPS-TK and CF-06-A)during the east tropical Indian Ocean(ETIO)experiment were compared with Vaisala RS92-SGP to assess the performances of China-made radiosondes over the tropical ocean.The results show that there have relative large biases in temperature observations between the GPSTK and the RS92-SGP in the low troposphere,with a warm bias of greater than 2 K in the day and a cooling bias of 0.6 K at night.The temperature differences of the CF-06-A were small in the troposphere both in daytime and nighttime,and became large peak-to-peak fluctuations in the stratosphere.The intercomparison of the relative humidity showed that the CF-06-A had large random errors due to the limitation of sensors and the lack of correction scheme,and the GPS-TK had large systematic biases in the low troposphere which might be related to the temperature impact.GPS height measurements are clearly suitable for China-made radiosonde systems operation.At night,the CF-06-A and the GPS-TK could provide virtual potential temperature and atmospheric boundary layer height measurements of suitable quality for both weather and climate research.As a result of the intercomparison experiment,major errors in the Chinamade radiosonde systems were well indentified and subsequently rectified to ensure improving accuracy for historical and future radiosondes.XIE Qiang HUANG Ke WANG Dongxiao YANG Lei CHEN Ju WU Zewen LI Daning LIANG Zhiyan 2014Acta Oceanologica Sinica2014,33,1:4

13Essential amino acid ratios and mTOR affect lipogenic gene networks and miRNA expression in bovine mammary epithelial cells显示文摘Background: The objective of this study was to study how changing the ratio of Lys to Thr, Lys to His, and Lys to Val affects the expression of lipogenic genes and micro RNA(mi RNA) in bovine mammary epithelial cells.Results: Triplicate cultures with the respective 'optimal' amino acid(AA) ratio(OPAA = Lys:Met 2.9:1; Thr:Phe 1.05:1;Lys:Thr 1.8:1; Lys:His 2.38:1; Lys:Val 1.23:1) plus rapamycin(OPAARMC; positive control), OPAA, Lys:Thr 2.1:1(LT2.1),Lys:Thr 1.3:1(LT1.3), Lys:His 3.05:1(LH3.0), or Lys:Val 1.62:1(LV1.6) were incubated in lactogenic medium for 12 h.The expression of 15 lipogenic genes and 7 mi RNA were evaluated. Responses to LT2.1, LT1.3, LH3.0, and LV1.6relative to the control(OPAARMC) included up-regulated expression of ACSS2, FABP3, ACACA, FASN, SCD, LPIN1,INSIG1, SREBF1, PPARD, and NR1H3(commonly known as LXR-α). Furthermore, LV1.6 up-regulated expression of ACSL1, DGAT1, and RXRA and down-regulated PPARG expression. Although no effect of OPAA on expression of PPARG was observed, compared with the control, OPAA up-regulated expression of the PPAR targets ACSS2, FABP3,ACACA, FASN, SCD, LPIN1, INSIG1, and SREBF1. Compared with the control, the expression of the anti-lipogenic MIR27 AB was down-regulated by OPAA, LT2.1, LT1.3 and LH3.0. 14Alloyed Au-Ag nanorods with desired plasmonic properties and stability in harsh environments显示文摘Bio-chemical molecular detection in the nanoscale, based on alloyed nanorods(NRs) with tunable surface plasmon resonance(SPR) properties and high chemical stability, has attracted particular interest. In this work,alloyed Au-Ag NRs with tunable aspect ratios were achieved by annealing Au nanobipyramid-directed Au@Ag core-shell NRs. The core-shell NRs were encapsulated within mesoporous silica outer shells to avoid fusion or aggregation. The structural stability of fully alloyed Au-Ag NRs, including chemical and thermal stability, is remarkably improved compared with that of Au@Ag core-shell NRs. The alloyed NRs would maintain the rod-like structure after being incubated in etchant solution, while Au@Ag core-shell NRs would decay into nanobipyramids.Additionally, fully alloyed NRs present stable morphology under annealing at high temperatures of up to 600℃ in air. Benefiting from excellent structural and chemical stabilities, the surface-enhanced Raman scattering effect based on alloyed NRs is stable in harsh environments. Taking advantage of tunable SPR properties(600–1800 nm) and excellent stability, the obtained nanostructures can serve as drug carriers. 18Systemic risk management and investment analysis with financial network analytics:research opportunities and challenges显示文摘Recent economic crises like the 2008 financial tsunami has demonstrated a critical need for better understanding of the topologies and various economic,social,and technical mechanisms of the increasingly interconnected global financial system.Such a system largely relies on the interconnectedness of various financial entities such as banks,firms,and investors through complex financial relationships such as interbank payment networks,investment relations,or supply chains.A network-based perspective or approach is needed to study various financial networks in order to improve or extend financial theories,as well as develop business applications.Moreover,with the advance of big data related technologies,and the availability of huge amounts of financial and economic network data,advanced computing technologies and data analytics that can comprehend such big data are also needed.We referred this approach as financial network analytics.We suggest that it will enable stakeholders better understand the network dynamics within the interconnected global financial system and help designing financial policies such as managing and monitoring banking systemic risk,as well as developing intelligent business applications like banking advisory systems.In this paper,we review the existing research about financial network analytics and then discuss its main research challenges from the economic,social,and technological perspectives.Daning Hu Gerhard Schwabe Xiao Li 2015Financial Innovation2015,1,1:2
