| 2 | Toxic stress,inflammation and symptomatology of chronic complications in diabetes显示文摘Diabetes affects at least 382 million people worldwide and the incidence is expected to reach 592 million by 2035.The incidence of diabetes in youth is skyrocketing as evidenced by a 21% increase in type 1 diabetes and a 30.5% increase in type 2 diabetes in the United States between 2001 and 2009.The effects of toxic stress,the culmination of biological and environmental interactions,on the development of diabetes complications is gaining attention.Stress impacts the hypothalamus-pituitaryadrenal axis and contributes to inflammation,a keybiological contributor to the pathogenesis of diabetes and its associated complications.This review provides an overview of common diabetic complications such as neuropathy,cognitive decline,depression,nephropathy and cardiovascular disease.The review also provides a discussion of the role of inflammation and stress in the development and progression of chronic complications of diabetes,associated symptomatology and importance of early identification of symptoms of depression,fatigue,exercise intolerance and pain. | Charles A Downs Melissa Spezia Faulkner | 2015 | World Journal of Diabetes2015，6，4： | 12 |
| 3 | The influence of biological soil crusts on ^(15)N translocation in soil and vascular plant in a temperate desert of northwestern China显示文摘Aims Desert ecosystems are often characterized by patchy distribution of vascular plants,with biological soil crusts(BSC)covering interplant spaces.However,few studies have comprehensively examined the linkage between BSC and vascular plants through nitrogen(N)or element translocation.the objective of this study was to evaluate the ecological roles of BSC on N translocation from soil to the domi-nant herb Erodium oxyrrhynchum bieb.(geraniaceae)in a temper-ate desert in China.Methods Isotopes(including 15N-glu,15N-NH4Cl and 15N-NaNo3)were used as a tracer to detect translocation of N in two types of desert soil(BSC covered;bare)to the dominant herb E.oxyrrhynchum.three different forms of 15N-enriched N compounds were applied as a point source to small patches of BSC and to bare soil.and we measured isotopes(14N and 15N)and obtained the concentration of labeled-15N in both vascular plants and soils at different distances from substrate application Important Findings Plants of E.oxyrrhynchum growing in BSC-covered plots accumulated moreδ15N than those growing in the bare soil.similarly,soil from b Ccovered plots showed a higher concentration of labeled-N irrespective of form of isotope,than did the bare soil.the concentration of dissolved organic N(15N-glu)in E.oxyrrhynchum was higher than that of dis-solved inorganic N(15N-NH4Cl and 15N-NaNo3).soil covered by BSC also accumulated considerably more dissolved organic N than bare soil,whereas the dominant form of 15N concentrated in bare soil was dissolved inorganic N.Correlation analysis showed that the concentra-tion of labeled-N in plants was positively related to the concentration of labeled-N in soils and the N%recorded in E.oxyrrhynchum.our study supports the hypothesis that BSC facilitates ^(15)N translocation in soils and vascular plants in a temperate desert of northwestern China. | WeiWei Zhuang Alison Downing YuanMing Zhang | 2015 | Journal of Plant Ecology2015，8，4： | 7 |

| 6 | Recent Advances in the Small Mammal Biostratigraphy and Magnetostratigraphy of Lanzhou Basin显示文摘The consensus view among geologists is that the Lanzhou Basin sequence of sedimentscontains the Oligocene/Miocene boundary, but where this occurs is unknown. Indeed, this is thecrux of the issues concerning mid-Tertiary paleontology in Asia: what fauna corresponds with thistime? What turnover events or distinctive taxa signal the beginning of the Miocene epoch? Onceknown, this will be of broad usefulness because vertebrate-bearing deposits are widespread in Asiaand can be used to date basin sediments. Lanzhou and other basins permit a means of correlating tothe time scale by using fauna and paleomagnetic data locally, and ultimately radiometric data fromdistant localities, to develop a precise biochronology. Herein, we summarize faunal constraints,primarily those of small mammal taxa, on correlation of the Lanzhou magnetozone sequence to themagnetic time scale. We conclude that the lower part of the Xianshuihe Formation contains theOligocene/Miocene boundary, and that the top of the formation, both in the south and north partsof the basin, is middle Miocene in age. Rodents from lower white sand units of the XianshuiheFormation, correlate to the Xiejia assemblage of the Xining Basin, Qinghai Province, and are early,but not earliest, Miocene age. The implication for rodent faunas of the epoch boundary is that theyretained a mainly 'Oligocene' composition, and that other presumed late Oligocene assemblagesmay be, in fact, early Miocene in age. The most comprehensive international mineral database is the IMA database, which includes information on more than 5400 approved mineral species and their properties, and the mindat.org data source, which contains more than 1 million species/locality data on minerals found at more than 300 000 localities. Analysis and visualization of these data with diverse techniques—including chord diagrams, cluster diagrams, Klee diagrams, skyline diagrams, and varied methods of network analysis—are leading to a greater understanding of the co-evolving geosphere and biosphere. New data-driven approaches include mineral evolution, mineral ecology, and mineral network analysis—methods that collectively consider the distribution and diversity of minerals through space and time. These strategies are fostering a deeper understanding of mineral co-occurrences and, for the first time, facilitating predictions of mineral species that occur on Earth but have yet to be discovered and described. | Robert M.
