1On the possible use of fire by Homo erectus at Zhoukoudian,China显示文摘For decades,the so-called Peking Man(Homo erectus pekinensis)at Zhoukoudian has been considered to be a hominin that engaged in the controlled production and management of fire.However,relatively recent analyses have cast doubt on this assertion.The most compelling reason for this doubt was the absence of siliceous aggregates in the Zhoukoudian deposits.This study presents evidence establishing the controlled use of fire by Homo erectus pekinensis through analyses of four soil samples sourced from Layers 4 and 6 at Zhoukoudian Locality 1.These results demonstrate that all four specimens contain siliceous aggregates as well as elemental carbon,and the potassium content of the insoluble residues of these specimens ranges between 1.21%and 2.94%.The analyses provide strong evidence of the in situ use of fire by Homo erectus pekinensis.Maohua Zhong Congling Shi Xing Gao Xinzhi Wu Fuyou Chen Shuangquan Zhang Xingkai Zhang John W.Olsen 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,3:4
2Investigation on mechanical exhaust of cabin fire in large-space building显示文摘A calculation model for mechanical exhaust rate in large-space building in the case of cabin fire is proposed through theoretical analysis. Full-scale hot smoke tests are then performed to study the cabin fire spreading to large-space building at dif- ferent air change rates (ACH). The result indicates that under the standard pre- scribed ACH, the effective air heights in the large spaces are respectively 6, 4 and 2 m in the case of cabin fires of 0.34, 0.67 and 1 MW. Numerical experiment has been conducted using self-developing two-zone model. The smoke control effi- ciency is compared by varying the large space’s air change rate in the case of cabin fires ranging from 0.25 to 4 MW. The calculation results show that the air change rates are respectively 3, 6, 10 and 10 ACH when the smoke layer is kept above 5 m, indicating that the centralized exhaust rates far exceed the standard prescribed value. To address this problem, a set of subsidiary distributed mechanical exhaust installing in the cabin with high fire loads is proposed. 3Fabrication of bilayer Pd-Pt nanocages with sub-nanometer thin shells for enhanced hydrogen evolution reaction显示文摘The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER),which generates molecular hydrogen through the electrochemical reduction of water,is an important clean-energy technology.Platinum (Pt) is an ideal material for HER electrocatalysts in terms of low overpotential and fast kinetics.An effective method to improve the atom utilization efficiency of Pt is to fabricate Pt-based core-shell or nanocage structures with ultra-thin walls.This paper describes the construction of bilayer palladium (Pd)-Pt alloy nanocages catalyst with enhanced HER catalytic activity.The nanocages were fabricated by etching away the Pd templates of multishelled nanocubes composed of alternate shells of Pd and Pt with well-defined (100) facets.The bilayer Pd-Pt nanocages with sub-nanometer shells have a high dispersion of the active atoms on the outside and inside surfaces of outer layer and inner layer,respectively.Moreover,the Pd-Pt alloy lowers the overpotential for HER and speeds up the reaction rate of HER due to the synergies between Pd and Pt.The rational design of bilayer nanocages provided a novel route for boosting the atom utilization efficiency of Pt catalysts.Yihe Wang Lei Zhang Congling Hu Shengnan Yu Piaoping Yang Dongfang Cheng Zhi-Jian Zhao Jinlong Gong 2019Nano Research2019,12,9:3

5Theory assisted design of N-doped tin oxides for enhanced electrochemical CO2 activation and reduction显示文摘Clearly understanding the structure-function relationship and rational design of efficient CO2 electrocatalysts are still the challenges.This article describes the molecular origin of high selectivity of formic acid on N-doped SnO2 nanoparticles,which obtained via thermal treatment of g-C3N4 and SnCl2·2H2O precursor.Combined with density functional theory(DFT)calculations,we discover that N-doping effectively introduces oxygen vacancies and increases the charge density of Sn sites,which plays a positive role in CO2 activation.In addition,N-doping further regulates the adsorption energy of^*OCHO,^*COOH,^*H and promotes HCOOH generation.Benefited from above modulation,the obtained N-doped SnO2 catalysts with oxygen vacancies(Ov-N-SnO2)exhibit faradaic efficiency of 93% for C1 formation,88% for HCOOH production and well-suppression of H2 evolution over a wide range of potentials.Congling Hu Lei Zhang Lulu Li Wenjin Zhu Wanyu Deng Hao Dong Zhi-Jian Zhao Jinlong Gong 2019Science China Chemistry2019,62,8:2
