1Tunable liquid crystal grating based holographic 3D display system with wide viewing angle and large size显示文摘As one of the most ideal display approaches,holographic 3-dimensional(3D)display has always been a research hotspot since the holographic images reproduced in such system are very similar to what humans see the actual environment.However,current holographic 3D displays suffer from critical bottlenecks of narrow viewing angle and small size.Here,we propose a tunable liquid crystal grating-based holographic 3D display system with wide viewing angle and large size.Our tunable liquid crystal grating,providing an adjustable period and the secondary diffraction of the reconstructed image,enables to simultaneously implement two different hologram generation methods in achieving wide viewing angle and enlarged size,respectively.By using the secondary diffraction mechanism of the tunable liquid crystal grating,the proposed system breaks through the limitations of narrow viewing angle and small size of holographic 3D display.The proposed system shows a viewing angle of 57.4°,which is nearly 7 times of the conventional case with a single spatial light modulator,and the size of the reconstructed image is enlarged by about 4.2.The proposed system will have wide applications in medical diagnosis,advertising,education and entertainment and other fields.Yi-Long Li Nan-Nan Li Di Wang Fan Chu Sin-Doo Lee Yi-Wei Zheng Qiong-Hua Wang 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7:15
2A study on the Dushiling tungsten-copper deposit in the Miao'ershan-Yuechengling area, Northern Guangxi, China:Implications for variations in the mineralization of multi-aged composite granite plutons显示文摘The polymetallic Dushiling W-Cu deposit is a large, altered, skarn-type deposit, located in the northeastern part of the Miao'ershan-Yuechengling pluton, China. Two types of granite have been identified in the deposit: a medium-grained porphyritic biotite granite, and a medium- to fine-grained biotite granite. Both are spatially and temporally related to ore bodies, suggesting they may be the source of mineralization in the deposit. A medium- to fine-grained porphyritic biotite granite is exposed at the surface in the region of mineralization. U-Pb dating of zircons yielded magmatic ages of 423 Ma for the medium-grained porphyritic biotite granite and 421 Ma for the medium- to fine-grained porphyritic biotite granite, while a younger age(217 Ma) obtained for surface samples indicates later diagenesis. Thus, magmatism occurred during the Caledonian and Indosinian, respectively. The petrological and geochemical characteristics of the two Caledonian granites show that both are calc-alkaline and peraluminous.They are moderately enriched in Cs, Rb, U, and REE, and strongly depleted in Sr,Ba,P,and Ti; they show similar REE behavior,including negative Eu anomalies. These geochemical similarities suggest that the two granites were derived from the same source,although they were emplaced during different stages of the evolution of the magma. Furthermore, the granites are associated with mineralization, suggesting they were the source of mineralization in the Dushiling W-Cu deposit. Sm-Nd ages of scheelite from the Dushiling W-Cu deposit indicate that metallogenesis occurred at 417±35 Ma, while the two types of titanite, intergrown with scheelite, yield U-Pb ages of 423–425 Ma(in altered granite sample) and 218 Ma(in skarn sample). These ages place the main mineralization event in the late Caledonian, and later magmatic-hydrothermal activity occurred in the Indosinian. 3Myopia induced by flickering light in guinea pigs: a detailed assessment on susceptibility of different frequencies显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of inducing myopia in guinea pigs by flickering light (FL) stimulation with different frequencies. METHODS: Seventy 2 -week-old guinea pigs were randomly assigned to six groups: five FL groups and a control group (n =12 for each). Animals in the five FL groups were raised under 500lx illumination with a duty diurnal cycle of 50% at a flash rate of 5, 1, 0.5, 0.25 and 0.1Hz respectively. Those in the control group were reared under steady 250lx illumination. Refraction, axial length, and radius of curvature were measured before and at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks after treatment. At week 12, the eyeballs were taken out and three ocular dimensions and dry weight of sclera were measured. RESULTS: A myopic shift and axial eye length increase developed in the five FL groups. Stimulation at 0.5Hz caused greater changes in myopic shift, axial elongation, eyeball dimension, and dry weight of sclera than stimulation at other frequencies. Compared with controls, eyes in 0.5Hz group were approximately -5.5 ±1.5D more myopic with increase in horizontal, vertical, axial dimensions by 0.89 ±0.3mm, 0.69 ±0.2mm, 1.12 ±0.2mm respectively and with increase in dry weight of sclera by 0.44mg. CONCLUSION: Chronic exposure to periodic illumination at temporal frequency is attended by development of excessive ocular enlargement and myopic refractive error. 4Repeatability and Reproducibility of Quantitative Assessment of the Retinal Microvasculature Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Based on Optical Microangiography显示文摘Objective The aim of this study was to determine the repeatability and reproducibility of optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA) based on optical microangiography(OMAG) measurements of macular vessels in normal eyes. Methods In this prospective cohort study, 40 eyes of 40 healthy volunteers underwent repeated OCTA(Cirrus HD-OCT 5000 angiography system, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc.) scans on two separate visit days. On each visit day, the eyes were scanned three times. The following parameters were used to quantitatively describe the OCTA images of the superficial vascular network: vessel area density(VAD), vessel skeleton density(VSD), vessel diameter index(VDI), vessel perimeter index(VPI), vessel complexity index(VCI), flux, and foveal avascular zone(FAZ). Coefficient of variation(CV) and intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) were calculated for evaluating intravisit and intervisit repeatability, as well as interobserver reproducibility. Results The measurements showed high repeatability [CVs ≤ 4.2%(intravisit) and ≤ 4.6%(intervisit)] and interobserver reproducibility(ICCs ≥ 0.923) for all parameters. 5A cyclodextrin-based nanoformulation achieves co-delivery of ginsenoside Rg3 and quercetin for chemo-immunotherapy in colorectal cancer显示文摘The immune checkpoint blockade therapy has profoundly revolutionized the field of cancer immunotherapy. However, despite great promise for a variety of cancers, the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors is still low in colorectal cancer(CRC). This is mainly due to the immunosuppressive feature of the tumor microenvironment(TME). Emerging evidence reveals that certain chemotherapeutic drugs induce immunogenic cell death(ICD), demonstrating great potential for remodeling the immunosuppressive TME. In this study, the potential of ginsenoside Rg3(Rg3) as an ICD inducer against CRC cells was confirmed using in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches. The ICD efficacy of Rg3 could be significantly enhanced by quercetin(QTN) that elicited reactive oxygen species(ROS). To amelioratein vivo delivery barriers associated with chemotherapeutic drugs, a folate(FA)-targeted polyethylene glycol(PEG)-modified amphiphilic cyclodextrin nanoparticle(NP) was developed for co-encapsulation of Rg3 and QTN. The resultant nanoformulation(CD-PEG-FA.Rg3.QTN) significantly prolonged blood circulation and enhanced tumor targeting in an orthotopic CRC mouse model, resulting in the conversion of immunosuppressive TME. Furthermore, the CD-PEG-FA.Rg3.QTN achieved significantly longer survival of animals in combination with Anti-PD-L1. 6PPARγ: the dominant regulator among PPARs in dry eye lacrimal gland and diabetic lacrimal gland显示文摘AIM: To investigate the regulatory roles of the members of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor(PPAR)family in lacrimal gland dysfunction under conditions of desiccating stress or diabetes.METHODS: Quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) was used to examine the expression of PPARs in the cornea, conjunctiva, meibomian gland, and lacrimal gland in adult rats. The rats were divided into 3 groups:a control group, dry eye group, and diabetic group. The phenol red threads test, tear film break-up time(BUT) test and fluorescein staining were carried out to evaluate the development of dry eye. Based on bioinformatics research,qP CR was used to examine the expression level of PPARγ,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-6(IL-6), sirtuin 1(Sirt1), myeloid differentiation factor 88(MyD88) and transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)in the lacrimal glands.RESULTS: PPARα and PPARβ/δ were mainly expressed in the conjunctiva and the lacrimal gland, respectively.However, PPARγ was expressed in both the conjunctiva and lacrimal gland, at much higher levels than those measured for PPARα and PPARβ/δ. Dry eye rats and diabetic rats both showed decreased tear secretion, shortened BUT,and increased corneal staining. Significant changes in gene expression were observed compared with the control group. In the lacrimal glands of dry eye rats and diabetic rats, expression of PPARγ decreased(P<0.05), expression of Sirt1 also decreased(P<0.01), whereas expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, MyD88, and TGF-β increased(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Among PPARs, PPARγ might play a dominant role in the regulation of metabolic-and inflammatorysignaling pathways on the ocular surfaces and in lacrimal glands. Down-regulation of PPARγ is highly relevant to lacrimal gland dysfunction under desiccating-stress and diabetic conditions. 7Remote Sensing Retrieval of Surface Suspended Sediment Concentration in the Yellow River Estuary显示文摘Accurate assessment of surface suspended sediment concentration(SSSC) in estuary is essential to address several important issues: erosion, water pollution, human health risks, etc. In this study, an empirical cubic retrieval model was developed for the retrieval of SSSC from Yellow River Estuary. Based on sediments and seawater collected from the Yellow River and southeastern Laizhou Bay, SSSC conditions were reproduced in the laboratory at increasing concentrations within a range common to field observations. Continuous spectrum measurements of the various SSSCs ranging from 1 to 5700 mg/l were carried out using an Ava Field-3 spectrometer. The results indicated the good correlation between water SSSC and spectral reflectance(Rrs) was obtained in the spectral range of 726–900 nm. At SSSC greater than 2700 mg/L, the 740–900 nm spectral range was less susceptible to the effects of spectral reflectance saturation and more suitable for retrieval of high sediment concentrations. The best correlations were obtained for the reflectance ratio of 820 nm to 490 nm. Informed by the correlation between Rrs and SSSC, a retrieval model was developed(R2 = 0.992). The novel cubic model, which used the ratio of a near-infrared(NIR) band(740–900 nm) to a visible band(400–600 nm) as factors, provided robust quantification of high SSSC water samples. Two high SSSC centers, with an order of 103 mg/l, were found in the inversion results around the abandoned Diaokou River mouth, the present Yellow River mouth to the abandoned Qingshuigou River mouth. 8Impact of a Senior High School Tuition Relief Program on Poor Junior High School Students in Rural China显示文摘A significant gap remains between rural and urban students in the rate of admission to senior high school.One reason for this gap might be the high levels of tuition and fees for senior high school.By reducing students' expectations of attending high school,high levels of tuition and fees could be reducing student academic performance in junior high schools.In this paper we evaluate the impacts of a senior high tuition relief program on the test scores of poor rural seventh grade students in China.We surveyed three counties in Shaanxi Province and exploited the fact that,while the counties are adjacent to one another and share similar characteristics,only one of the three implemented a tuition relief program.Using several alternative estimation strategies,including difference-in-differences,propensity score matching and difference-in-differences matching,we find that the tuition program has a statistically significant and positive impact on the mathematics scores of seventh grade students.More importantly,this program is shown to have a statistically significant and positive effect on the poorest students in the treatment group compared to their wealthier peers.Xinxin Chen Yaojiang Shi Di Mo James Chu Prashant Loyalka Scott Rozelle 2013China & World Economy2013,21,3:3
9Progress on major genes for high fecundity in ewes显示文摘The existence of major genes affecting fecundity in sheep flocks throughout the world has been demonstrated.Three major genes whose mutations can increase ovulation rate have been discovered,and all related to the transforming growth factorβ(TGF-β)superfamily.The mutant FecB of bone morphogenetic protein receptor 1B(BMPR1B)has an additive effect on ovulation rate.Six mutations(Fec^(XI),Fec^(XH),Fec^(XG),Fec^(XB),Fec^(XL),Fec^(XR))of bone morphogenetic protein 15(BMP15)related with fertility have been identified that share the same mechanism.All the mutants can increase ovulation rate in heterozygotes and cause complete sterility in homozygotes.Homozygous ewes with two new mutations(FecX^(Gr),FecX^(O))of BMP15 had increased ovulation rate without causing sterility.There are five mutations in growth differentiation factor 9(GDF9)associated with sheep prolificacy where FecG^(E) and FecG^(F) have additive an effect on ovulation rate and litter size.The newly identifiedβ-1,4-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2(B4GALNT2)gene of FecL is proposed as a new mechanism of ovulation rate regulation in sheep.Woodlands is an X-linked maternally imprinted gene which increases ovulation rate.In addition,several putative major genes need to be verified.This review is focused on the identification of the mutations and mechanisms whereby the major genes affecting ovulation rate.Qiuyue LIU Zhangyuan PAN Xiangyu WANG Wenping HU Ran DI Yaxing YAO Mingxing CHU 2014Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2014,1,4:3
10Restoring the dampened expression of the core clock molecule BMAL1 protects against compression-induced intervertebral disc degeneration显示文摘The circadian clock participates in maintaining homeostasis in peripheral tissues,including intervertebral discs(IVDs).Abnormal mechanical loading is a known risk factor for intervertebral disc degeneration(IDD).Based on the rhythmic daily loading pattern of rest and activity,we hypothesized that abnormal mechanical loading could dampen the IVD clock,contributing to IDD.Here,we investigated the effects of abnormal loading on the IVD clock and aimed to inhibit compression-induced IDD by targeting the core clock molecule brain and muscle Arnt-like protein-1(BMAL1).In this study,we showed that BMAL1 KO mice exhibit radiographic features similar to those of human IDD and that BMAL1 expression was negatively correlated with IDD severity by systematic analysis based on 149 human IVD samples.The intrinsic circadian clock in the IVD was dampened by excessive loading,and BMAL1 overexpression by lentivirus attenuated compression-induced IDD.Inhibition of the RhoA/ROCK pathway by Y-27632 or melatonin attenuated the compression-induced decrease in BMAL1 expression.Finally,the two drugs partially restored BMAL1 expression and alleviated IDD in a diurnal compression model.Our results first show that excessive loading dampens the circadian clock of nucleus pulposus tissues via the RhoA/ROCK pathway,the inhibition of which potentially protects against compression-induced IDD by preserving BMAL1 expression.These findings underline the importance of the circadian clock for IVD homeostasis and provide a potentially effective therapeutic strategy for IDD.Dong Wang Pandi Peng Michal Dudek Xueyu Hu Xiaolong Xu Qiliang Shang Di Wang Haoruo Jia Han Wang Bo Gao Chao Zheng Jianxin Mao Chu Gao Xin He Pengzhen Cheng Huanbo Wang Jianmin Zheng Judith A.Hoyland Qing-Jun Meng Zhuojing Luo Liu Yang 2022Bone Research2022,10,2:2

14Regulators of alternative polyadenylation operate at the transition from mitosis to meiosis显示文摘In the sexually reproductive organisms, gametes are produced by meiosis following a limited mitotic amplification. However, the intrinsic program switching cells from mitotic to meiotic cycle is unclear.Alternative polyadenylation(APA) is a highly conserved means of gene regulation and is achieved by the RNA 30-processing machinery to generate diverse 30 UTR profiles. In Drosophila spermatogenesis, we observed distinct profiles of transcriptome-wide 30 UTR between mitotic and meiotic cells. In mutant germ cells stuck in mitosis, 30 UTRs of hundreds of genes were consistently shifted. Remarkably, altering the levels of multiple 30-processing factors disrupted germline's progression to meiosis, indicative of APA's active role in this transition. An RNA-binding protein(RBP) Tut could directly bind 30 UTRs of 30-processing factors whose expressions were repressed in the presence of Tut-containing complex. Further,we demonstrated that this RBP complex could execute the repression post-transcriptionally by recruiting CCR4/Twin of deadenylation complex. 17MicroRNAs as potential therapeutic targets for pancreatic cancer显示文摘Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive malignancies. The poor prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients is mainly attributed to low diagnostic rate at the early stage, highly aggressive nature coupled with the inadequate efficacy of current chemotherapeutic regimens. Novel therapeutic strategies are urgently needed for pancreatic cancer. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important regulatory role in key processes of cancer development. The aberrant expression of miRNAs is often involved in the initiation, progression, and metastasis of pancreatic cancer. The discovery of tumor suppressor miRNAs provides prospects for the development of a novel treatment strategy for pancreatic cancer. We reviewed recent progress on the understanding of the role of miRNAs in pancreatic cancer, highlighted the efficient application of miRNAs-based therapies for pancreatic cancer in animal models and clinical trials, and proposed future prospects.
