1Effects of Plant Types on Physico-chemical Properties of Reclaimed Mining Soil in Inner Mongolia,China显示文摘A field experiment was conducted in Jungar Banner,Inner Mongolia,China to study the effects of plant types on the physical structure and chemical properties of open-cast mining soils reclaimed for 15 years,and to analyze the triggering factors of the soil formation.Results indicate that plant types affect soil-forming process especially in the upper layer (0-20 cm),and the spatial structure of reclaimed plant is the main reason for variability of the soil-forming process.In the upper soil layer at the site reclaimed with mixed plants,the concentrations of soil organic matter (SOM) and soil organic carbon (SOC) are the highest,and they were significantly higher at the sites reclaimed with Leymus chinensis,Caragana sinica,which is mainly due to a large amount of litter fall and root exudation in herbages and shrubs.However,the concentrations of SOM and SOC in the soils at the reclaimed sites are quite low comparing with those in local primary soil,which indicates the importance of using organic amendments during the ecological restoration in the study area.FU Yao LIN Changcun MA Jianjun ZHU Tingcheng 2010Chinese Geographical Science2010,20,4:3
2Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas Exhibit Cell Biological and Molecular Signatures of Fetal Hindbrain-Derived Neural Progenitor Cells显示文摘Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma(DIPG) is the main cause of brain tumor-related death among children.Until now, there is still a lack of effective therapy with prolonged overall survival for this disease. A typical strategy for preclinical cancer research is to find out the molecular differences between tumor tissue and para-tumor normal tissue, in order to identify potential therapeutic targets. Unfortunately, it is impossible to obtain normal tissue for DIPG because of the vital functions of the pons.Here we report the human fetal hindbrain-derived neural progenitor cells(pontine progenitor cells, PPCs) as normal control cells for DIPG. The PPCs not only harbored similar cell biological and molecular signatures as DIPG glioma stem cells, but also had the potential to be immortalized by the DIPG-specific mutation H3 K27 M in vitro. 3Symptoms Burden and Health-related Quality of Life in Chinese Patients with Primary Biliary Cholangitis显示文摘Background and Aims:Primary biliary cholangitis(PBC)is a chronic liver disease that negatively affects the health-related quality of life(HRQoL)of patients.Furthermore,the HRQoL of Chinese patients has been neglected for a long time.The present study aimed to assess the HRQoL of Chinese patients with PBC and explore the clinical variables correlating to the improvement of itch and fatigue.Methods:This was an observational,cross-sectional study.The PBC-40 and itch numerical rating scales were used to evaluate the symptoms and HRQoL of patients.Results:A total of 383 patients were recruited,and 86.4%were female,with a median age of 55 years(range:49-63 years).We found that females had significantly higher scores than males in symptoms(p=0.033)and cognitive domains(p=0.021),and the fatigue domain was higher in elderly patients(p=0.007).Meanwhile,patients whose body mass index was<18.5 had the highest scores in the symptoms(p=0.009),fatigue(p=0.010),and cognitive(p=0.019)domains.Age at participation(odds ratio[OR]=1.068,p=0.015)and albumin level at 12 months after ursodeoxycholic acid treatment(OR=208.807,p=0.025)were independent factors that affected the improvement of the itch and fatigue domains,respectively.Conclusions:The HRQoL of Chinese patients with PBC was significantly impaired depending on sex,age,and body mass index.Age and albumin level were significantly associated with the improvement of itch and fatigue,respectively.Therefore,treatment and support aimed at these two factors can be provided to improve the HRQoL of patients.Yansheng Liu Siyuan Tian Gui Jia Zheyi Han Changcun Guo Yulong Shang Ying Han 2021Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2021,9,6:2

14Vegetation and Community Changes of Elm (Ulmus pumila) Woodlands in Northeastern China in 1983-2011显示文摘Elm (Ulmus pumila), widely distributed in the north temperate zone, contributes to a special savanna-like woodland in typical grassland region in the northeastern China. This woodland performs a variety of ecological functions and environmental significance, such as decreasing soil erosion, stabilizing sand dunes, preserving species diversity. However, in the last approximate 30 years, the species composition, productivity and distribution area of elm woodland has decreased severely. A series of studies have been carried out to find out whether the climate changes or human disturbances caused the degradation of elm woodland and how these factors affected elm woodland. In this study, undisturbed, plowing and grazing elm woodland were investigated in 1983 and 2011 by using Point-Centered Quarter method. The relationship between vegetation changes and environmental factors was analyzed by Bray-Curtis ordination. The results show that in 2011, species diversity and understory productivity of undisturbed elm woodland decrease slightly compared to those of undisturbed elm woodland in 1983. However, nearly 60% of the species is lost in the plowing and grazing elm woodland relative to the species undisturbed elm woodland in 1983. Interestingly, plowing stimulates the growth of elm and certain understory species through furrowing soil and accelerating soil nutrient turnover rate. Grazing disturbance not only leads to species loss and productivity decrease, but also induces changes in elm growth (small, short and twisted). The mean age of the elm was 29±2 yr in undisturbed and plowing elm woodland, while only 15 yr in the grazing elm woodland. The results of Bray-Curtis ordination analysis show that all sample stands clustered to three groups: Group I including the undisturbed sample stands of 83UE (undisturbed elm woodland in 1983) and 11UE (undisturbed elm woodland in 2011); Group II including sample stands of PE (elm woodland disturbed by plowing); Group III including samples stands of GE (elm woodland disturbed by grazing). The results indicate that the long time disturbance of the plowing and grazing have converted elm woodland to different community types. Climate change is not the primary reason causing the degradation of elm woodland, but plowing and grazing disturbance. Both plowing and grazing decrease the vegetation composition and species diversity. Grazing further decreases vegetation productivity and inhibits the growth of elm tree. 15Research Article Core/hybrid-shell structures boost thermoelectric performance of flexible inorganic/organic nanowire films显示文摘Interface control in inorganic/organic composites has always been regarded as one of the effective means to optimize their thermoelectric(TE)performance,and the past few years have witnessed its development,including carrier-energy filtering and phonon scattering.However,the energy barrier created by the band alignment at the composite interface depends on the Fermi level difference between the organic and inorganic components,which is difficult to be controlled by the common means.Herein,a core/hybrid-shell strategy aiming for efficient interface control is proposed to tune the energy barrier of the inorganic/organic core/shell nanowire interface.The Fermi level of hybrid-shell can be effectively controlled by separating the charge carriers compared to the single-shell composites.The energy barrier of the core/hybrid-shell interface is tuned to an appropriate position,and the energy filtering effect is utilized,resulting in a substantial improvement in power factor and reduction in thermal conductivity for the prepared core/hybrid-shell composites with good air-stability and flexibility.Moreover,both the flexible p type and p-n type TE devices based on the prepared core/hybrid-shell films yield excellent output properties with the maximum power densities of 41 and 45μW·cm^(−2)at a temperature difference of ca.30 K,respectively.This study provides a novel strategy to improve the TE performance of the inorganic/organic composites,displaying great potential for low-power wearable electronics.Changcun Li Xiaoqi Lan Peipei Liu Jingkun Xu Qinglin Jiang Congcong Liu Cheng Liu Fengxing Jiang 2023Nano Research2023,16,4:1
