| 1 | Role of stem cell therapies in treating chronic wounds:A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND The impairment of cutaneous wound healing results in chronic,non-healing wounds that are caused by altered wound environment oxygenation,tissue injury,and permissive microbial growth.Current modalities for the treatment of these wounds inadequately address the complex changes involved in chronic wound pathogenesis.Consequently,stem cell therapies have emerged as a potential therapeutic modality to promote cutaneous regeneration through trophic and paracrine activity.AIM To investigate current literature regarding use of stem cell therapies for the clinical treatment of chronic,non-healing wounds.METHODS PubMed,EMBASE,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,and Scopus were queried with combinations of the search terms“mesenchymal stem cells,”“adult stem cells,”“embryonic stem cells,”“erythroid precursor cells,”“stem cell therapies,”and“chronic wounds”in order to find relevant articles published between the years of 2000 and 2019 to review a 20-year experience.Reference lists from the articles were reviewed to identify additional pertinent articles.Retrieved manuscripts(reviews,case reports/series,retrospective/prospective studies,and clinical trials)were evaluated by the authors for their depiction of clinical stem cell therapy use.Data were extracted from the articles using a standardized collection tool.RESULTS A total of 43 articles describing the use of stem cell therapies for the treatment of chronic wounds were included in this review.While stem cell therapies have been explored in in vitro and in vivo applications in the past,recent efforts are geared towards assessing their clinical role.A review of the literature revealed that adipose-derived stem cells,bone marrow-derived stem cells,bone marrowderived mononuclear cells,epidermally-derived mesenchymal stem cells,fibroblast stem cells,keratinocyte stem cells,placental mesenchymal stem cells,and umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells have all been employed in the treatment of chronic wounds of various etiologies.Most recently,embryonic stem cells have emerged as a novel stem cell therapy with the capacity for multifaceted germ cell layer differentiation.With the capacity for self-renewal and differentiation,stem cells can enrich existing cell populations in chronic wounds in order to overcome barriers impeding the progression of wound healing.Further,stem cell therapies can be utilized to augment cell engraftment,signaling and activity,and resultant patient outcomes.CONCLUSION Assessing observed clinical outcomes,potential for stem cell use,and relevant therapeutic challenges allows wound care stakeholders to make informed decisions regarding optimal treatment approaches for their patients’chronic wounds. | Anjali C Raghuram Roy P Yu Andrea Y Lo Cynthia J Sung Melissa Bircan Holly J Thompson Alex K Wong | 2020 | World Journal of Stem Cells2020,12,7: | 5 |
| 2 | Effect of Silver Nanoparticles on Growth of Eukaryotic Green Algae显示文摘Silver nanoparticles,endowed with powerful antimicrobial property,are the most widely used nanomaterial in consumer products,with associated risk of their easy access to environment and freshwater ecosystems by surface runoff.Although toxic effects of nanosilver on bacterial,fungal and mammalian cells have been documented,its impact on algal growth remains unknown.Pithophora oedogonia and Chara vulgaris are predominant members of photosynthetic eukaryotic algae,which form major component of global aquatic ecosystem.Here we report for the first time that nanosilver has significant adverse effects on growth and morphology of these filamentous green algae in a dose-dependent manner.Exposure of algal thalli to increasing concentrations of silver nanoparticles resulted in progressive depletion in algal chlorophyll content,chromosome instability and mitotic disturbance,associated with morphological malformations in algal filaments.SEM micrographs revealed dramatic alterations in cell wall in nanoparticle-treated algae,characterized with cell wall rupture and degradation in Pithophora.Although these observations underscore severe deleterious effects of nanosilver on aquatic environment,the information can also be exploited as a bioengineering strategy to control unwanted and persistent growth of noxious algal weeds that clog the municipal water supply and water channels and produce fouling of water bodies. | Anjali Dash Anand P.Singh Bansh R.Chaudhary Sunil K.Singh Debabrata Dash | 2012 | Nano-Micro Letters2012,4,3: | 5 |

| 5 | Macrophages are the primary effector cells in IL-7-induced arthritis显示文摘Synovial macrophages are crucial in the development of joint inflammation and bone damage;however, the pathways that controlmacrophage remodeling in inflammatory M1 cells or bone-eroding osteoclasts are not fully understood. We determined thatelevated IL-7R/CD127 expression is the hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) M1 macrophages and that these cells are highlyresponsive to interleukin-7 (IL-7)-driven osteoclastogenesis. We established that lipopolysaccharide (LPS), interferon-γ (IFNγ), andtumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα), the classic M1 macrophage mediators, enhance IL-7R expression in RA and murine macrophages.The local expression of IL-7 provokes arthritis, predominantly through escalating the number of F480^(+)iNOS^(+) cells rather than CD3^(+)T cells. Ectopic LPS injection stabilizes IL-7-induced arthritis by increasing myeloid IL-7R expression, in part via IFNγ induction.Hence, in RAG−/− mice, IL-7-mediated arthritis is suppressed because of the reduction in myeloid IL-7R expression due to the lackof IFNγ. Moreover, the amelioration of IL-7-induced arthritis by anti-TNF therapy is due to a decrease in the number of cells in theunique F480^(+)iNOS^(+)IL-7R^(+)CCL5^(+) subset, with no impact on the F480^(+)Arginase^(+) cell or CD3^(+) T cell frequency. Consistent with thepreclinical findings, the findings of a phase 4 study performed with RA patients following 6 months of anti-TNF therapy revealedthat IL-7R expression was reduced without affecting the levels of IL-7. | 6 | Prediction of oil-water flow patterns, radial distribution of volume fraction, pressure and velocity during separated flows in horizontal pipe显示文摘Flow of two immiscible fluids gives rise to variety of flow patterns,which influence transportation process.In this work,we present detailed analysis on the prediction of flow pattern maps and radial distribution of volume fraction,pressure and velocity of a pair of immiscible liquids through a horizontal pipeline by computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulation using ANSYS FLUENT 6.3.Moderately viscous oil and water have been taken as the fluid pair for study.Volume of fluid(VOF) method has been employed to predict various flow patterns by assuming unsteady flow,immiscible liquid pair,constant liquid properties,and co-axial flow.From the grid independent study,we have selected 47 037 number of quadrilateral mesh elements for the entire geometry.Simulation successfully predicts almost all the flow patterns(viz.,plug,slug,stratified wavy,stratified mixed and annular),except dispersion of oil in water and dispersion of water in oil.The simulated results are validated with experimental results of oil volume fraction and flow pattern map.Radial distribution of volume fraction,pressure and velocity profiles describe the nature of the stratified wavy,stratified mixed and annular flow pattern.These profiles help to developing the phenomenological correlations of interfacial characteristics in two-phase flow. | Anand B.DESAMALA Vinayak VIJAYAN Anjali DASARI Ashok Kumar DASMAHAPATRA Tapas K.MANDAL | 2016 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2016,28,4: | 3 |
| 7 | Larvicidal activity of Dregea volubilis and Bombax malabaricum leaf extracts against the filarial vector Culex quinquefasciatus显示文摘Objective:To analyze the larvicidal activity of two plant leaf powder and leaf-extracts, Dregea volubilis and Bombax malabaricum against Culex quinquefasciatus.Methods:The larvicidal bioassay was done for powdered leaves of Dregea volubilis and Bombax malabaricum individually and their methanol extracts against first-,second-,third- and fourth-instar larval forms of Culex quinquefasciatus.Mortality rate was recorded after 24,48 and 72 h of postexposure. LC50 and LG90 values were calculated at different time intervals for third instar larvae. Results:All the graded concentration(0.1%,0.2%,0.3%,0.4%,0.5%) of powdered leaves showed significant(P <0.05) larval mortality.The mortality rate was higher in 50 ppm doses of methanolic extracts of both the plants against Culex quinquefaciatus.The corresponding <C50 values were 56.97 ppm and 48.85 ppm,respectively after 24 h of exposure.There is no mortality of non-target organism such as Chironomous circumdatus,Oreochromis niloticus niloticus and Diplonichus annulatum within 72 h of post exposure to 0.1%,0.2%,0.3%crude powdered leaves and methanolic extracts of both the two individual plants under the laboratory condition.The results of preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis of both the plants revealed the presence of many bioactive principles such as steroids,tannins,flavonoids,triterpenoids,saponins,etc. that may be responsible for their bio-control potentiality.Conclusions:The results have shown potential and eco-friendly use of both plant extracts against larva of Culex quinquefasciatus for the first time. | Emdad Hossain Anjali Rawani Goutam Chandra Subhash C.Mandal Jayanta Kumar Gupta | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,6: | 3 |

| 10 | Dynamic role of myofibroblasts in oral lesions显示文摘Fibroblasts are the most abundant cellular components of connective tissue. They possess phenotypical heterogenicity and may be present in the form of smooth muscle cells or myofibroblasts(MFs). MFs are spindle-shaped cells with stress fibres and welldeveloped fibronexus,and they display α-smooth muscle actin immunohistochemically and smoothmuscle myofilaments ultrastructurally. MFs play a crucial role in physiological and pathological processes. Derived from various sources,they play pivotal roles not only by synthesizing and producing extracellular matrix components,such as other connective tissue cells,but also are involved in force production. In the tissue remodelling phase of wound closure,integrinmediated interactions between MFs and type I collagen result in scar tissue formation. The tumour stroma in oral cancer actively recruits various cell types into the tumour mass,where they act as different sources of MFs. This article reviews the importance of MFs and its role in pathological processes such as wound healing,odontogenic cysts and tumours,salivary gland tumours,oral preneoplasia,and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Here, we are detecting the COVID-19 cases, i.e., confirmed, death, and cured cases in India only. We are performing this analysis based on the cases occurring in different states of India in chronological dates. Our dataset contains multiple classes so we are performing multi-class classification. On this dataset, first, we performed data cleansing and feature selection, then performed forecasting of all classes using random forest, linear model, support vector machine,decision tree, and neural network, where random forest model outperformed the others, therefore, the random forest is used for prediction and analysis of all the results. Consumer interest and use of acupuncture are becoming increasingly popular in the United States, as it is used to treat a multitude of symptoms and disease processes as well as to maintain health and prevent illness. A growing body of evidence increasingly validates the practice of acupuncture. Further developing scientific data will play an important role in the future of acupuncture and other complementary and alternative medicines in public health. Acupuncture is commonly used concurrently with conventional medicine. Although acupuncture is embraced by consumers and medical professionals, misconceptions abound. We have explored and dispelled ten misconceptions common to the practice of acupuncture, utilizing an evidence-based approach. As the trend of merging conventional medical care with acupuncture treatment grows, it is important to develop a conceptual model of integrative medicine. Using a scientific evidence approach will create a structure from which to begin and grow confidence among conventional medical providers. Acupuncture is a safe and effective modality when performed properly by trained professionals.
