A general-purpose machine learning framework for predicting properties of inorganic materials显示文摘A very active area of materials research is to devise methods that use machine learning to automatically extract predictive models from existing materials data. While prior examples have demonstrated successful models for some applications, many more applications exist where machine learning can make a strong impact. To enable faster development of machine-learning-based models for such applications,we have created a framework capable of being applied to a broad range of materials data. Our method works by using a chemically diverse list of attributes, which we demonstrate are suitable for describing a wide variety of properties, and a novel method for partitioning the data set into groups of similar materials to boost the predictive accuracy. In this manuscript,we demonstrate how this new method can be used to predict diverse properties of crystalline and amorphous materials, such as band gap energy and glass-forming ability.Logan Ward Ankit Agrawal Alok Choudhary Christopher Wolverton 2016npj Computational Materials2016,,1:83
Effect of sodium arsenite on spermatogenesis, plasma gonadotrophins and testosterone in rats显示文摘Aim:To investigate the effect of arsenic on spermatogenesis.Methods:Mature(4 months old)Wistar rats were intraperitoneally administered sodium arsenite at doses of 4,5 or 6mg·kg^-1·day^-1 for 26 days.Different varieties of germ cells at stage Ⅶ seminiferous epithelium cycle, namely, type A spermatogonia(ASg),preleptotene spermatocytes(pLSc),midpachytene spermatocytes(mPSc) and step 7 spermatids(7Sd) were quantitatively evaluated, along with radioimmunoassay of plasma follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),lutuneizing hormone(LH),testosterone and assessment of the epididymal sperm count. Results:In the 5 and 6 mg/kg groups, there were significant dosedependent decreases in the accessory sex organ weights, epididymal sperm count and plasma concentrations of LH,FSH and testosterone with massive degeneration of all the germ cells at stage Ⅶ,The changes were insignificant in the 4 mg/kg group. Conclusion:Arsenite has a suppressive influence on spermatogenesis and gonadotrophin and testosterone release in rats.Mahitosh Sarkar Gargi Ray Chaudhuri Aloke Chattopadhyay Narendra Mohan Biswas 2003Asian Journal of Andrology2003,5,1:24
Acclimation and Tolerance Strategies of Rice under Drought Stress显示文摘Rice(Oryza sativa L.) is an important food crop and requires larger amount of water throughout its life cycle as compared to other crops. Hence, water related stress cause severe threat to rice production. Drought is a major challenge limiting rice production. It affects rice at morphological(reduced germination, plant height, plant biomass, number of tillers, various root and leaf traits),physiological(reduced photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, water use efficiency, relative water content, chlorophyll content, photosystem Ⅱ activity, membrane stability, carbon isotope discrimination and abscisic acid content),biochemical(accumulation of osmoprotectant like proline, sugars, polyamines and antioxidants) and molecular(altered expression of genes which encode transcription factors and defence related proteins) levels and thereby affects its yield. To facilitate the selection or development of drought tolerant rice varieties,a thorough understanding of the various mechanisms that govern the yield of rice under water stress condition is a prerequisite. Thus, this review is focused mainly on recent information about the effects of drought on rice, rice responses as well as adaptation mechanisms to drought stress.Veena PANDEY Alok SHUKLA 2015Rice science2015,22,4:23
Pathogenic mechanisms of pancreatitis显示文摘Pancreatitis is inflammation of pancreas and caused by a number of factors including pancreatic duct obstruction, alcoholism, and mutation in the cationic trypsinogen gene. Pancreatitis is represented as acute pancreatitis with acute inflammatory responses and; chronic pan-creatitis characterized by marked stroma formation with a high number of infiltrating granulocytes(such as neutrophils, eosinophils), monocytes, macrophages and pancreatic stellate cells(PSCs). These inflammatory cells are known to play a central role in initiating and promoting inflammation including pancreatic fibrosis, i.e., a major risk factor for pancreatic cancer. A number of inflammatory cytokines are known to involve in pro-moting pancreatic pathogenesis that lead pancreatic fibrosis. Pancreatic fibrosis is a dynamic phenomenon that requires an intricate network of several autocrine and paracrine signaling pathways. In this review, we have provided the details of various cytokines and molecular mechanistic pathways(i.e., Transforming growth factor-β/SMAD, mitogen--activated protein kinases, Rho kinase, Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators, and phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase) that have a critical role in the activation of PSCs to promote chronic pancreatitis and trigger the phenomenon of pancreatic fibrogenesis. In this review of literature, we discuss the involvement of several pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as in interleukin(IL)-1, IL-1β, IL-6, IL--8 IL-10, IL-18, IL--33 and tumor necrosis factor-α, in the pathogenesis of disease. Our review also highlights the significance of several experimental animal models that have an important role in dissecting the mechanistic pathways operating in the development of chronic pancreatitis, including pancreatic fibrosis. Additionally, we provided several intermediary molecules that are involved in major signaling pathways that might provide target molecules for future therapeutic treatment strategies for pancreatic pathogenesis.Murli Manohar Alok Kumar Verma Sathisha Upparahalli Venkateshaiah Nathan L Sanders Anil Mishra 2017World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology and Therapeutics2017,8,1:21

Recent advances and applications of deep learning methods in materials science显示文摘Deep learning(DL)is one of the fastest-growing topics in materials data science, with rapidly emerging applications spanning atomistic,image-based,spectral,and textual data modalities.DL allows analysis of unstructured data and automated identification of features. The recent development of large materials databases has fueled the application of DL methods in atomistic prediction in particular. In contrast, advances in image and spectral data have largely leveraged synthetic data enabled by high-quality forward models as well as by generative unsupervised DL methods. In this article,we present a high-level overview of deep learning methods followed by a detailed discussion of recent developments of deep learning in atomistic simulation, materials imaging, spectral analysis, and natural language processing. For each modality we discuss applications involving both theoretical and experimental data, typical modeling approaches with their strengths and limitations, and relevant publicly available software and datasets. We conclude the review with a discussion of recent cross-cutting work related to uncertainty quantification in this field and a brief perspective on limitations, challenges, and potential growth areas for DL methods in materials science.Kamal Choudhary Brian DeCost Chi Chen Anubhav Jain Francesca Tavazza Ryan Cohn Cheol Woo Park Alok Choudhary Ankit Agrawal Simon J.L.Billinge Elizabeth Holm Shyue Ping Ong Chris Wolverton 2022npj Computational Materials2022,,1:9
Thermal decomposition and kinetics of plastic bonded explosives based on mixture of HMX and TATB with polymer matrices显示文摘This work describes thermal decomposition behaviour of plastic bonded explosives(PBXs) based on mixture of 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocane(HMX) and 2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene(TATB)with Viton A as polymer binder. Thermal decomposition of PBXs was undertaken by applying simultaneous thermal analysis(STA) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) to investigate influence of the HMX amount on thermal behavior and its kinetics. Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) indicated that the thermal decomposition of PBXs based on mixture of HMX and TATB was occurred in a three-steps. The first step was mainly due to decomposition of HMX. The second step was ascribed due to decomposition of TATB, while the third step was occurred due to decomposition of the polymer matrices. The thermal decomposition % was increased with increasing HMX amount. The kinetics related to thermal decomposition were investigated under non-isothermal for a single heating rate measurement. The variation in the activation energy of PBXs based on mixture of HMX and TATB was observed with varying the HMX amount. The kinetics from the results of TGA data at various heating rates under non-isothermal conditions were also calculated by Flynn—Wall—Ozawa(FWO) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose(KAS)methods. The activation energies calculated by employing FWO method were very close to those obtained by KAS method. The mean activation energy calculated by FWO and KAS methods was also a good agreement with the activation energy obtained from single heating rate measurement in the first step decomposition.Arjun Singh Tirupati C.Sharma Mahesh Kumar Jaspreet Kaur Narang Prateek Kishore Alok Srivastava 2017Defence Technology(防务技术)2017,13,1:8
ST-segment elevation: Distinguishing ST elevation myocardial infarction from ST elevation secondary to nonischemic etiologies显示文摘The benefits of early perfusion in ST elevation myocardial infarctions(STEMI) are established; howeverearly perfusion of non-ST elevation myocardial infarctions has not been shown to be beneficial. In additionST elevation(STE) caused by conditions other thanacute ischemia is common. Non-ischemic STE may beconfused as STEMI, but can also mask STEMI on electrocardiogram(ECG). As a result, activating the primarypercutaneous coronary intervention(pPCI) protocooften depends on determining which ST elevation patterns reflect transmural infarction due to acute coronary artery thrombosis. Coordination of interpreting theECG in its clinical context and appropriately activatingthe pPCI protocol has proved a difficult task in borderline cases. But its importance cannot be ignored, asreflected in the 2013 American College of CardiologyFoundation/American Heart Association guidelines concerning the treatment of ST elevation myocardial infarction. Multiples strategies have been tested and studiedand are currently being further perfected. No mattethe strategy, at the heart of delivering the best care lies rapid and accurate interpretation of the ECG. Here, we present the different patterns of non-ischemic STE and methods of distinguishing between them. In writing this paper, we hope for quicker and better stratification of patients with STE on ECG, which will lead to be bet-ter outcomes.Alok Deshpande Yochai Birnbaum 2014World Journal of Cardiology2014,6,10:7
Computational Identification of Sweet Wormwood (Artemisia annua) microRNA and Their mRNA Targets显示文摘Despite its efficacy against malaria, the relatively low yield (0.01%-0.8%) of artemisinin in Artemisia annua is a serious limitation to the commercialization of the drug. A better understanding of the biosynthetic pathway of artemisinin and its regulation by both exogenous and endogenous factors is essential to improve artemisinin yield. Increasing evidence has shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) play multiple roles in various biological processes. In this study, we used previously known miRNAs from Arabidopsis and rice against expressed sequence tag (EST) database of A. annua to search for potential miRNAs and their targets in A. annua. A total of six potential miRNAs were predicted, which belong to the miR414 and miR1310 families. Furthermore, eight potential target genes were identified in this species. Among them, seven genes encode proteins that play important roles in ar- temisinin biosynthesis, including HMG-CoA reductase (HMGR), amorpha-4,11-diene synthase (ADS), farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FPS) and cytochrome P450. In addition, a gene coding for putative AINTEGUMENTA, which is involved in signal transduction and development, was also predicted as one of the targets. This is the first in silico study to indicate that miRNAs target genes encoding enzymes involved in artemisinin biosynthesis, which may help to understand the miRNA-mediated regulation of artemisinin biosynthesis in A. annua.Alok Pani Rajani Kanta Mahapatra Niranjan Behera Pradeep Kumar Naik 2011Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2011,9,6:7

A Molecular Framework for the Control of Adventitious Rooting by TIR1/AFB2-Aux/IAADependent Auxin Signaling in Arabidopsis显示文摘In Arabidopsis thaliana, canonical auxin-dependent gene regulation is mediated by 23 transcription factors from the AUXIN RESPONSE FACTOR(ARF)family that interact with auxin/indole acetic acid repressors(Aux/IAAs),which themselves form co-receptor complexes with one of six TRANSPORT INHIBITOR*!/AUXIN-SIGNALLING F-BOX(TIR1/AFB)proteins.Different combinations of co-receptors drive specific sensing outputs, allowing auxin to control a myriad of processes.ARF6 and ARF8 are positive regulators of adventitious root initiation upstream of jasmonate, but the exact auxin co-receptor complexes controlling the transcriptional activity of these proteins has remained unknown. Here, using loss-of-function mutants we show that three Aux/IAA genes,IAA6,IAA9,and IAA17,act additively in the control of adventitious root(AR)initiation. These three IAA proteins interact with ARF6 and/or ARF8 and likely repress their activity in AR development. We show that TIR1 and AFB2 are positive regulators of AR formation and TIR1 plays a dual role in the control of jasmonic acid(JA)biosynthesis and conjugation,as several JA biosynthesis genes are up-regulated in the tir1-1 mutant. These results lead us to propose that in the presence of auxin,TIR1 and AFB2 form specific sensing complexes with IAA6,IAA9,and/or IAA17 to modulate JA homeostasis and control AR initiation.Abdellah Lakehal Salma Chaabouni Emilie Cavel Rozenn Le Hir Alok Ranjan Zahra Raneshan Ondrej Novak Daniel IPacurar Irene Perrone Frangois Jobert Laurent Gutierrez Laszlo Bako Catherine Bellini 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,11:5

Herbal antioxidant in clinical practice:A review显示文摘Antioxidant-the word itself is magic.Using the antioxidant concept as a spearhead in proposed mechanisms for staving off so-called'free-radical'reactions,the rush is on to mine claims for the latest and most effective combination of free-radical scavenging compounds. We must acknowledge that such'radicals'have definitively been shown to damage all biochemical components such as DNA/HNA,carbohydrates,unsaturated lipids, proteins, and micronutrients such as carotenoids(alpha and beta carotene, lycopene),vitamins A,B_6,B_(12),and folate.Defense strategies against such aggressive radical species include enzymes, antioxidants that occur naturally in the body(glutathione, uric acid,ubiquinol-10,and others)and radical scavenging nutrients, such as vitamins A,C,and E,and carotenoids. This paper will present a brief discussion of some well-and little-known herbs that may add to the optimization of antioxidant status and therefore offer added preventive values for overall health. It is important to state at the outset that antioxidants vary widely in their free-radical quenching effects and each may be individually attracted to specific cell sites.Further evidence of the specialized nature of the carotenoids is demonstrated by the appearance of two carotenoids in the macula region of the retina where beta-carotene is totallyShashi Alok Sanjay Kumar Jain Amita Verma Mayank Kumar Alok Mahor Monika Sabharwal 2014Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,1:4
Transplantation of engineered exosomes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells ameliorate diabetic peripheral neuropathy under electrical stimulation显示文摘Diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN)is a long-term complication associated with nerve dysfunction and uncontrolled hyperglycemia. In spite of new drug discoveries, development of effective therapy is much needed to cure DPN.Here,we have developed a combinatorial approach to provide biochemical and electrical cues, considered to be important for nerve regeneration.Exosomes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells(BMSCs)were fused with polypyrrole nanoparticles(PpyNps)containing liposomes to deliver both the cues in a single delivery vehicle. We developed DPN rat model and injected intramuscularly the fused exosomal system to understand its long-term therapeutic effect. We found that the fused system along with electrical stimulation normalized the nerve conduction velocity(57.60±0.45 m/s)and compound muscle action potential(16.96±0.73 mV)similar to healthy control(58.53±1.10 m/s;18.19±1.45 mV).Gastrocnemius muscle morphology, muscle mass, and integrity were recovered after treatment.Interestingly,we also observed paracrine effect of delivered exosomes in controlling hyperglycemia and loss in body weight and also showed attenuation of damage to the tissues such as the pancreas, kidney, and liver. This work provides a promising effective treatment and also contribute cutting edge therapeutic approach for the treatment of DPN.Anamika Singh Alok Raghav Parvaiz Ahmad Shiekh Ashok Kumar 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,8:4

Two-warehouse inventory model for deteriorating items with demand influenced by innovation criterion in growing technology market显示文摘One of the major concerns for the technology market is the demand volatility andits impact on inventory policies. Demand volatility in the technology sector mayarise due to many factors namely customer choices, competition, growingmarket size, and so on. Often companies use rented warehouses to absorb anyfluctuations in demand. Unfortunately, warehouse and inventory researchesignore the phenomenon of growing market size to formulate policy decisions. Inthis paper, we proposed a two-warehouse inventory model with deterioration fortechnology products with linearly increasing market size where demand followsinnovation diffusion criterion. The model is based on the assumption that theholding costs in the rented warehouse are more than the own warehouse. Asimple solution procedure also discussed to solve nonlinear cost function.Numerical example and sensitivity analysis are also used to describe the utilityof the model.Alok Kumar Udayan Chandab 2018Journal of Management Analytics2018,5,3:3
