| 1 | Schisandra sphenanthera extract(Wuzhi Tablet)protects against chronic-binge and acute alcohol-induced liver injury by regulating the NRF2-ARE pathway in mice显示文摘Alcohol abuse leads to alcoholic liver disease and no effective therapy is currently available.Wuzhi Tablet(WZ), a preparation of extract from Schisandra sphenanthera that is a traditional hepatoprotective herb, exerted a significant protective effect against acetaminophen-induced liver injury in our recent studies, but whether WZ can alleviate alcohol-induced toxicity remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the contribution of WZ to alcohol-induced liver injury by using chronic-binge and acute models of alcohol feeding. The activities of ALT and AST in serum were assessed as well as the level of GSH and the activity of SOD in the liver. The expression of CYP2E1 and proteins in the NRF2-ARE signaling pathway including NRF2, GCLC, GCLM, HO-1 were measured, and the effect of WZ on NRF2 transcriptional activity was determined. We found that both models resulted in liver steatosis accompanied by increased transaminase activities, but that liver injury was significantly attenuated by WZ. WZ administration also inhibited CYP2E1 expression induced by alcohol, and elevated the level of GSH and the activity of SOD in the liver. Moreover, the NRF2-ARE signaling pathway was activated by WZ andthe target genes were all upregulated. Furthermore, WZ significantly activated NRF2 transcriptional activity. | 2 | Radiofrequency ablation combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization therapy versus surgical resection for Barcelona-Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC) A hepatocellular carcinoma: a meta-analysis显示文摘Purpose: The objective of our study was to compare the effectiveness of the combination of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) and radiofrequency ablation(RFA) with that of surgical resection(SR) in Barcelona-Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC) A hepatocellular carcinoma. Materials and Methods: PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched for comparisons of the two therapies from January 2006 to December 2017. Overall survival rate(OS), recurrence-free survival rate(RFS), complications, and the average length of hospital stay were compared and analyzed. Review Manager v. 5.2 from the Cochrane Collaboration was used for statistical analyses. Results: Seven case-control studies and one randomized controlled trial were identified, of which 717 were treated with a combination of TACE and RFA and 785 were treated with SR. Meta-analysis data revealed that TACE plus RFA had significantly better effectiveness on 1.0-y OS(OR = 0.50, p =.009). The major complications(ORcomplications = 1.88, p =.02) after the combined therapy were significantly lower than those after SR. There were three studies that reported the average length of hospital stay. The hospital stay for the SR group vs the combined therapy group was 19.8 ± 8.4 d vs 7.4 ± 2.2 d, respectively(p <.0001); 18.7 ± 4.9 d vs 11.5 ± 6.9 d, respectively(p <.0001); and 16.6 ± 6.7 d vs 8.5 ± 4.1 d, respectively(p <.0001). There was no significant difference in 3.0-or 5.0-y OS and 1.0-, 3.0-, or 5.0-y RFS. | 3 | Preparation and characterization of capric-palmitic-stearic acid ternary eutectic mixture/expanded vermiculite composites as form-stabilized thermal energy storage materials显示文摘In this study, a composite of form-stable phase change materials(FSPCMs) were prepared by the incorporation of a eutectic mixture of capric–palmitic–stearic acid(CA–PA–SA) into expanded vermiculite(EV)via vacuum impregnation. In the composites, CA–PA–SA was utilized as a thermal energy storage material,and EV served as the supporting material. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results demonstrated that CA–PA–SA and EV in the composites only undergo physical combination, not a chemical reaction. Scanning electron microscopy images indicated that CA–PA–SA is sufficiently absorbed in the expanded vermiculite porous network. According to differential scanning calorimetry results, the70 wt% CA–PA–SA/EV sample melts at 19.3℃ with a latent heat of 117.6 J/g and solidifies at 17.1℃ with a latent heat of 118.3 J/g. Thermal cycling measurements indicated that FSPCMs exhibit adequate stability even after being subjected to 200 melting–freezing cycles. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity of the composites increased by approximately 49.58% with the addition of 5 wt% of Cu powder. | 9 | High performance of a unique mesoporous polystyrene-based adsorbent for blood purification显示文摘A multi-functional polystyrene based adsorbent(NKU-9)with a unique mesoporous and a high surface area was prepared by suspension polymerization for removal of therapeutic toxins in blood purification.The adsorbent produced had an almost equal amount of mesopore distribution in the range from 2 to 50 nm.The adsorption of serum toxins with different molecular weights were examined by in vitro adsorption assays and compared with some clinical currently used adsorbents such as HA-330,Cytosorb and BL-300 which are produced by China,America and Japan,respectively.Test results indicated that the adsorption rate for pentobarbital by NKU-9 was 81.24%which is nearly as high as HA-330(81.44%).The latter adsorbent is currently used for acute detoxification treatment in China.To reach adsorption equilibrium,NKU-9 was faster than HA-330,which implies short treatment time.For the removal of middle molecular toxins such as b2-microglobulin(98.88%),NKU-9 performed better adsorptive selectivity than Cytosorb(92.80%).In addition,NKU-9 showed high performance for the removal of albumin-bound toxins(e.g.,bilirubin),and its adsorption rate for total bilirubin(80.79%)in plasma was 8.4%higher than that of anion exchange resin BL-300 which is currently used to eliminate bilirubin in clinic.Therefore,our results indicate that the newly developed adsorbent with a wide distribution and almost equal amount of mesopores is a multifunctional adsorbent for high efficient removal of serum toxins with different molecular weights which might be an excellent blood purification adsorbent especially to treat diseases that conventional medical methods are low or not efficient. | Jian Chen Wenyan Han Jie Chen Wenhui Zong Weichao Wang Yue Wang Guanghui Cheng Chunran Li Lailiang Ou Yaoting Yu | 2017 | Regenerative Biomaterials2017,4,1: | 3 |

| 12 | A ROBUST ADAPTIVE VIDEO ENCODER BASED ON HUMAN VISUAL MODEL显示文摘A Robust Adaptive Video Encoder (RAVE) based on human visual model is proposed. The encoder combines the best features of Fine Granularity Scalable (FGS) coding, framedropping coding, video redundancy coding, and human visual model. According to packet loss and available bandwidth of the network, the encoder adjust the output bit rate by jointly adapting quantization step-size instructed by human visual model, rate shaping, and periodically inserting key frame. The proposed encoder is implemented based on MPEG-4 encoder and is compared with the case of a conventional FGS algorithm. It is shown that RAVE is a very efficient robust video encoder that provides improved visual quality for the receiver and consumes equal or less network resource. | 14 | Non-viral gene carrier mediated short hairpin RNA interference for inhibition of tumor cells growth显示文摘A tumor-targeting gene vector G250mAb-PEI-PEG has been prepared by modification of polyethylenimine (PEI) with polyethyleneglycol (PEG) and G250, a monoclonal antibody against the G250 antigen on tumor cell surface. The transfection efficiency was as high as 70% in G250 positive HeLa cells, whereas the transfection efficiency was relatively low (30%) in normal NIH3T3 cells. A plasmid encoding the short hairpin RNA (shRNA) specific for nucleostemin gene (NS) was efficiently transfected into the HeLa cells with this nonviral gene vector. RNA interference down-regulated the expression of NS gene in HeLa cells, inhibited cells proliferation and induced apoptosis. However, the growth and activity of the NIH3T3 cells were not affected under the same treatment. | 15 | Interaction between poly(amidoamine) dendrimers and DNA studied by spectroscopic methods显示文摘The interaction between amino-terminated, and ethylenediamine core poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) den-drimers and herring sperm DNA was investigated by various spectroscopic methods including UV spectroscopy, fluores-cence spectroscopy, microscopic FTIR- and circular dichro-ism (CD-) spectroscopy. Ethidium bromide (EB) is used as a nucleic acid probe for this study. Experimental results show that PAMAM dendrimers can form stable complexes with DNA and the dendrimers bind to DNA sufficiently strong which cannot be displaced by EB, and we also found that the formation of the complexes can cause the conformation change of the DNA secondary structure. | 16 | Bioresponsive nanotherapy for preventing dental caries by inhibiting multispecies cariogenic biofilms显示文摘Early childhood caries(ECC)is a public healthcare concern that greatly reduces the quality of life of young children.As a leading factor of ECC,cariogenic biofilms are composed of acidogenic/aciduric pathogens and extracellular polysaccharides(EPSs),creating an acidic and protected microenvironment.Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy(aPDT)is a noninvasive,painless,and efficient therapeutic approach that is suitable for treating ECC.However,due to the hyperfine structure of cariogenic biofilms,most photosensitizers(PSs)could not access and penetrate deeply in biofilms,which dramatically hamper their efficiency in the clinic.Herein,bioresponsive nanoparticle loaded with chlorin e6(MPP-Ce6)is developed,which largely increases the penetration depth(by over 75%)and retention(by over 100%)of PS in the biofilm compared with free Ce6.Furthermore,MPP-Ce6-mediated aPDT not only kills the bacteria in preformed biofilms but also inhibits multispecies biofilm formation.A rampant caries model is established to mimic ECC in vivo,where the population of cariogenic bacteria is decreased to 10%after MPP-Ce6-mediated aPDT.Importantly,the number and severity of carious lesions are efficiently reduced via Keyes’scoring and micro-CT analysis.This simple but effective strategy can serve as a promising approach for daily oral hygiene in preventing ECC. | Danfeng Liu Xianbin Ma Yaoting Ji Rourong Chen Shuhui Zhou Hantao Yao Zichen Zhang Mengjie Ye Zhigang Xu Minquan Du | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,8: | 2 |

Single crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that the polymer exhibits a novel three-dimensional framework based on planar tetranuclear copper(Ⅱ) cluster units. The variable temperature magnetic susceptibility data in the range 2-280 K show antiferromagnetic spin-spin coupling in the tetranuclear unit in complex 1.
