Effect of stimulating acupoint Guanyuan(CV 4) on lower back pain by burning moxa heat for different time lengths: a randomized controlled clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of different heat-stimulating time lengths on lower back pain.METHODS: Forty participants were randomly assigned to four groups of various heating time lengths. The short heating time length group(SL),moderate heating time length group(ML), and long heating time length group(LL) respectively received 15, 30, and 60 min of moxibustion therapy stimulating the acupoint Guanyuan(CV 4). The conventional acupuncture group(CA) received needle acupuncture treatment as a control group. The participants were treated continuously over a 2-week treatment period for a total of 10 sessions, with five sessions given per week. Participants were assessed weekly by blinded assessors, using the visual analogue scale(VAS) and Roland Morris Questionnaire(RMQ).RESULTS: The VAS and RMQ scores reduced in all four groups during treatment. There were significant differences in VAS scores(P < 0.01) and RMQ scores(P < 0.01) between before treatment and after 2 weeks of treatment in the LL group. After treatment, the LL group reported significantly lower VAS scores compared with the CA group, ML group, and SL group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: The long and moderate lengths of heat-stimulating time of 30 and 60 min may be more effective for relieving lower back pain than that of short stimulating time lengths. | Xu Jianfeng Lin Ruizhu Wu Yongli Wang Yingxu Liu Jian Zhang Yanling Zhang Yuequan Xi Chaolei Wu Qiang Li Xinjian | 2015 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2015,35,1: | 13
Review of the biological and engineering aspects of algae to fuels approach显示文摘Current biofuel production relies on limited arable lands on the earth, and is impossible to meet the biofuel demands.Oil producing algae are alternative biofuel feedstock with potential to meet the world’s ambitious goal to replace fossil fuels. This review provides an overview of the biological and engineering aspects in the production and processing technologies and recent advances in research and development in the algae to fuels approach. The article covers biology, selection and genetic modification of algae species and strains, production systems design, culture media and light management, harvest and dewatering, downstream processing, and environment and economic assessment.Despite the many advances made over several decades, commercialization of algal fuels remains challenging chiefly because of the techno-economic constraints.Technological breakthroughs in all major aspects must take place before commercial production of algal fuels becomes economically viable. | Paul Chen Min Min Yifeng Chen Liang Wang Yecong Li Qin Chen Chenguang Wang Yiqin Wan Xiaoquan Wang Yanling Cheng Shaobo Deng Kevin Hennessy Xiangyang Lin Yuhuan Liu Yingkuan Wang Blanca Martinez Roger Ruan | 2009 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2009,2,4: | 9
A review of key strategies in realizing power system resilience显示文摘The world is witnessing increasing frequency of extreme events. The power system is the backbone critical infrastructure of our economy and is under treat of such events. The resilient power system is intended to cope with low probability, high risk extreme events including extreme natural disasters and man-made attacks. Realizing resilience in the power system has been an unprecedented mission. Equipped with today’s smart grid technologies, power system can be rendered more resilient by the strategies taken before, during and after a disruptive event erupts. Based on a thorough review of existing works, we present the most-investigated problems and solving measures according to their application stage. In the preparation stage, innovative planning frameworks considering disaster scenarios are discussed; after the event, the system can alter the topology and integrate resource allocation to alleviate load shedding. The characteristics of different disasters are investigated to facilitate enhancing resilience. | 4 | Removal of humic acid from aqueous solution by cetylpyridinium bromide modified zeolite显示文摘Natural zeolite was modified by loading cetylpyridinium bromide(CPB) to create more efficient sites for humic acid(HA) adsorption. The natural and CPB modified zeolites were characterized with X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The effects of various experimental parameters such as contact time, initial HA concentration, solution pH and coexistent Ca2+, upon HA adsorption onto CPB modified zeolites were evaluated. The results showed that natural zeolite had negligible affinity for HA in aqueous solutions, but CPB modified zeolites exhibited high adsorption efficiency for HA.A higher CPB loading on natural zeolites exhibited a larger HA adsorption capacity.Acidic pH and coexistent Ca2+ were proved to be favorable for HA adsorption onto CPB modified zeolite. The kinetic process was well described by pseudo second-order model. The experimental isotherm data fitted well to Langmuir and Sips models. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of CPB modified zeolite with surfactant bilayer coverage was found to be 92.0 mg/g. | Yanhui Zhan Zhiliang Zhu Jianwei Lin Yanling Qiu Jianfu Zhao | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,9: | 6
Proteome analysis of hepatic non-parenchymal cells of immune liver fibrosis rats显示文摘Elucidation of the mechanisms of liver fibrogenesis is important to treat liver fibrosis. In this study,we established rat models of liver fibrosis with stages from 0–1,2,and 3–4 to 4 at 2,4,6,and 8 weeks, respectively,by injection of pig serum.Liver fibrogenesis was detected by Masson’s trichrome staining.Rat non-parenchymal cells(NPCs)were enriched 4-fold by Percoll density gradient centrifugation.Protein extracts from NPCs were prepared at 4 and 8 weeks, separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis, and then stained with Coomassie Blue G-250.At 4 weeks,we identified 18 non-redundant differentially expressed proteins of which protein disulfide-isomerase associated protein 3(PDIA3)and NDUV showed consistent expression at protein and mRNA levels from 4 to 8 weeks.PDIA3 was found to be down-regulated by Western blotting in the rat model and immunohistochemically in human liver. Our results revealed important aspects of the pathogenesis/progression of liver fibrosis and demonstrated important changes in protein expression levels of NPCs at various stages of liver fibrosis. | ZHAO QianQian FENG YanLing JIA XiaoFang YIN Lin ZHENG Ye OUYANG DongSheng ZHOU HongHao ZHANG LiJun | 2014 | Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,3: | 5
Effect of Rhizobacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris Inoculation on Stevia rebaudiana Plant Growth and Soil Microbial Community显示文摘There is an increasing concern that the continuous use of chemical fertilizers might lead to harmful effects on soil ecosystem.Accordingly, a biocompatible approach involving inoculation of beneficial microorganisms is presented to promote plant growth and simultaneously minimize the negative effect of chemical fertilizers. In this study, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium(PGPR), was inoculated into both fertilized and unfertilized soils to assess its influence on Stevia rebaudiana plant growth and microbial community in rhizosphere soils in a 122-d field experiment. Soil enzyme assays(dehydrogenase, urease, invertase, and phosphomonoesterase), real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-_qPCR), and a high-throughput sequencing technique were employed to determine the microbial activity and characterize the bacterial community. Results showed that the R.palustris inoculation did not significantly influence Stevia yields and root biomass in either the fertilized or unfertilized soil. Chemical fertilization had strong negative effects on soil bacterial community properties, especially on dehydrogenase and urease activities. However, R. palustris inoculation counteracted the effect of chemical fertilizer on dehydrogenase and urease activities, and increased the abundances of some bacterial lineages(including Bacteroidia, Nitrospirae, Planctomycetacia, Myxococcales, and Legionellales). In contrast, inoculation into the unfertilized soil did not significantly change the soil enzyme activities or the soil bacterial community structure. For both the fertilized and unfertilized soils, R. palustris inoculation decreased the relative abundances of some bacterial lineages possessing photosynthetic ability, such as Cyanobacteria, Rhodobacter, Sphingomonadales, and Burkholderiales. Taken together, our observations stress the potential utilization of R. palustris as PGPR in agriculture, which might further ameliorate the soil microbial properties in the long run. | XU Jiangbing FENG Youzhi WANG Yanling LIN Xiangui | 2018 | Pedosphere2018,28,5: | 5
Chemical weathering and CO_2 consumption of a high-erosion-rate karstic river: a case study of the Sanchahe River, southwest China显示文摘The Sanchahe River in southwest China is a tributary of the Wujiang River and experiences high erosion rates. Geochemical analysis was conducted on Sanchahe River basin samples collected in the wet and dry seasons of 2014 in order to better understand local chemical weathering processes, anthropogenic influences, and associated CO2 consumption. The samples' total dissolved solid concentrations were found to be significantly higher than that of the global river average. Ca2+was the dominant cation in the samples and accounted for 64 % and73 % of the total cations in the dry and wet seasons, respectively. HCO3-and SO42-were the dominant anions, accounting for 92 % of the total anions. Stoichiometry analyses of the river waters suggested that the water chemistry is controlled by carbonate dissolution by both carbonic and sulfuric acid. The chemical weathering rates of carbonate and silicate evaporites in the Sanchahe River basin were estimated to be approximately 109.2 and 11.0 t/(km2a), respectively, much higher than both the global mean values and the Wujiang River, a typical karstic river. The CO2 consumption by carbonate and silicate weathering are estimated to be 597.4 9 103 and 325.5 9 103mol/(km2a), which are much higher than corresponding values in the Wujiang River, indicating a high erosion rate in the Sanchahe River basin. | Yanling An Yiliang Hou Qixin Wu Lin Qing Longbo Li | 2015 | Chinese Journal Of Geochemistry2015,34,4: | 4

In the comparison of doppler flow charts in the chronic gastritis group, there were statistically significant differences in VD, VM, D, RI, SV, ET between cun-kou artery and anterior tibial artery(P <0.05), and there were more statistically significant differences in PI between cun-kou artery and anterior tibial artery(P < 0.01). In the comparison of doppler flow charts between normal group and chronic gastritis group, there were statistically significant differences in SV, ET between normal group and chronic gastritis group(P < 0.05), and there were more statistically significant differences in PI between normal group and chronic gastritis group(P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Based on the differences in doppler flow charts between the normal group and the chronic gastritis group, the doppler flow charts of cun-kou artery and anterior tibial artery were not only proved to be significantly different, but also provided quantitative objective indexes for the study of cun-kou artery and anterior tibial artery doppler flow charts of normal people and chronic gastritis patients. This study also proves that the doppler flow chart of the anterior tibial pulse is of great significance for the diagnosis of chronic gastritis. | Wang Chao Wei Yun Zhang Lin Song Jia Liu Ni Fu Yanling | 2018 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2018,38,6: | 3 |
Congenital bifurcation of tympanic segment of facial nerve显示文摘Congenital aural atresia is usually associated with facial nerve (the seventh cranial nerve,CN7) anomalies with an incidence rate of 60%-75%.These anomalies include facial nerve displacement, facial nerve component overlying the oval window, bony canal dehiscence, and bifurcation, which increase the risk of surgical facial nerve injuries.Among all these anomalies, congenital bifurcation of the tympanic segment of facial nerve is the most confusing situation that significantly increases the surgical risk during hearing reconstruction. | Wang Danni Zhao Shouqin Zhao Yanling Chen Shubin Yang Lin | 2014 | Chinese Medical Journal2014,,9: | 3

Important population viability analysis parameters for giant pandas(Aliuropoda melanoleuca)显示文摘Population viability analysis(PVA) is a tool to evaluate the risk of extinction for endangered species and aid conservation decision-making.The quality of PVA output is dependent on parameters related to population dynamics and life-history;however,it has been difficult to collect this information for the giant panda(Aliuropoda melanoleuca),a rare and endangered mammal native to China, confined to some 30 fragmented habitat patches.Since giant pandas are long-lived,mature late, have lower reproductive rates, and show little sexual dimorphism, obtaining data to perform adequate PVA has been difficult. Here,we develop a parameter sensitivity index by modeling the dynamics of six giant panda populations in the Minshan Mountains,in order to determine the parameters most influential to giant panda populations. Our data shows that the giant panda populations are most sensitive to changes in four female parameters:initial breeding age, reproductive rate, mortality rate between age 0 and 1,and mortality rate of adults. The parameter sensitivity index strongly correlated with initial population size,as smaller populations were more sensitive to changes in these four variables. This model suggests that demographic parameters of females have more influence on the results of PVA,indicating that females may play a more important role in giant panda population dynamics than males.Consequently, reintroduction of female individuals to a small giant panda population should be a high priority for conservation efforts. Our findings form a technical basis for the coming program of giant panda reintroduction, and inform which parameters are crucial to successfully and feasibly monitoring wild giant panda populations. | Minghao GONG Yanling SONG Zhisong YANG Chen LIN | 2012 | Zoological Research2012,33,3: | 3
Effects of third-order dispersion on temporal soliton compression in dispersion-engineered silicon photonic crystal waveguides显示文摘High-order temporal soliton compression in dispersion-engineered silicon photonic crystal waveguides will play an important role in future integrated photonic circuits compatible with complementary metal–oxide–semiconductors. Here,we report the physical mechanisms of high-order temporal soliton compression affected by third-order dispersion(TOD)combined with free carrier dispersion(FCD)in a dispersion engineered silicon photonic crystal waveguide with wideband low anomalous dispersion.Through numerical temporal soliton evolution analysis,we report what we believe is the first demonstration of the dual opposite effects of TOD on temporal soliton compression, which are strengthening or weakening through two different physical mechanisms, not only depending on the sign of TOD but also the relative magnitude of TOD-induced equivalent group velocity dispersion(GVD)β2,equto the original GVDβ2.We further find that FCD counteracts the effects of negative TOD on the soliton compression, while it reinforces the effects of positive TOD on the soliton compression. These results will help to design suitable dispersion-engineered silicon waveguides for superior on-chip temporal pulse compression in optical communications and processing application fields. | JIALI LIAO YANG GAO YANLING SUN LIN MA ZHENZHONG LU XIUJIAN LI | 2020 | Photonics Research2020,8,5: | 2
Adsorption of humic acid from aqueous solution on bilayer hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide-modified zeolite显示文摘Surfactant-modified natural zeolites(SMNZ)with different coverage types were prepared by loading hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide(HTAB)onto the surface of a natural zeolite. The adsorption behavior of humic acid(HA)on SMNZ was investigated. Results indicate that the adsorbent SMNZ exhibited a higher affinity toward HA than the natural zeolite.HA removal efficiency by SMNZ increased with HTAB loading.Coexisting Ca2+in solution favored HA adsorption onto SMNZ.Adsorption capacity decreased with an increasing solution pH.For typical SMNZ with bilayer HTAB coverage,HA adsorption process is well described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The experimental isotherm data fitted well with the Langmuir model.Calculated maximum HA adsorption capacities for SMNZ with bilayer HTAB coverage at pH 5.5 and 7.5 were 63 and 41 mg·g^(-1),respectively.E2/E3(absorbance at 250 nm to that at 365 nm)and E4/E6(absorbance at 465 nm to that at 665 nm)ratios of the residual HA in solution were lower than that of the original HA solution. This indicates that the HA fractions with high polar functional groups, low molecular weight(MW),and aromaticity had a stronger tendency for adsorption onto SMNZ with bilayer HTAB coverage. Results show that HTABmodified natural zeolite is a promising adsorbent for removal of HA from aqueous solution. | Yanhui ZHAN Jianwei LIN Yanling QIU Naiyun GAO Zhiliang ZHU | 2011 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2011,5,1: | 2
Anaerobic treatment of wastewater containing methanol in up-flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactor显示文摘The direct conversion of methanol into methane is the main process in anaerobic treatment of methanol containing wastewater. However, acetic acid can also be produced from methanol theoretically, which may probably result in an abrupt pH drop and deteriorate the anaerobic process. Therefore,it is interesting to know what would really happen in an anaerobic reactor treating methanol wastewater. In this study,an up-flow anaerobic sludge bed(UASB)reactor treating methanol wastewater was operated. The chemical oxygen demand(COD),acetic acid and pH of the effluent were monitored at different loadings and influent alkalinity. The results showed that the anaerobic reactor could be operated steadily at as low as 119 mg/L of influent alkalinity and high organic loading rate with no obvious pH drops.Volatile fatty acids accumulation was not observed even at strong shock loadings. The microorganisms in the sludge at the end of the test became homogeneous in morphology, which were mainly spherical or spheroidal in shape. | Yishan LIN Yanling HE Zhuo MENG Shucheng YANG | 2008 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2008,2,2: | 2
Clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in five countries and regions: Japan;South Korea;China's Mainland;Hong Kong, China;Taiwan, China显示文摘Objective:To study the characteristics of the clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in five countries and regions where traditional medicine(TM)is widely used:Japan;South Korea;China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China;Taiwan,China. And to analyze, from multiple angles, the variations in the methods of TM used in each countries and regions. Methods:Fifty commonly used traditional herbs(TOP50)from classical formulae were selected, and descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and Friedman test were used to compare methods of clinical application and dosages in the countries and regions of interest based on a retrospective review of randomly-selected medical records. Results:There were significant differences in sequencing TOP50 among the five countries and regions(P<.01).The adherence to the classical formulae, from strong to weak was Japan;China's Mainland;Taiwan,China;Hong Kong,China;South Korea. There were also significant differences in TOP50 dosing regimens(P<.01).Overall dosages of TOP50 from high to low were:China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China;Taiwan,China;South Korea;Japan. Finally, there were significant differences in the dosage intervals(P<.01),with dosage intervals from maximum to minimum as follows:China's Mainland;Taiwan,China;Hong Kong,China;South Korea;Japan. Conclusions:The clinical dosages of traditional herbal medicine used in the China's Mainland are relatively large compared with those prescribed in the other four countries and regions, and the range of dosages in China's Mainland is more flexible. On the other hand, clinical dosages of TOP50 are the lowest in Japan, where the dosage range is also the narrowest, supporting the idea that Doctors of Kampo medicine are highly cautious and are likely to adhere strictly to classical formulae, while Hong Kong,China and Taiwan,China are in the middle. The dosage of TOP50 in South Korea is significantly lower than that used in the China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China and Taiwan,China where the adherence to the classical formulae was the lowest, albeit slightly higher than that in Japan. The methods of clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in the five countries and regions were affected by multiple factors, including history, geography, climate, and culture. | Liming Chen Yanling Fu Lin Zhang Sijia Zhao Qing Feng Yihua Cheng Tosha Yanai Daji Xu Mingyu Luo Sang Woo An Woong Seok Lee Seong Hoon Cho Byung Wook Lee | 2015 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2015,2,3: | 1

Antibody-engineered red blood cell interface for high-performance capture and release of circulating tumor cells显示文摘Circulating tumor cells(CTCs),as important liquid biopsy target, can provide valuable information for cancer progress monitoring and individualized treatment. However, current isolation platforms incapable of balancing capture efficiency, specificity, cell viability, and gentle release have restricted the clinical applications of CTCs.Herein, inspired by the structure and functional merits of natural membrane interfaces,we established an antibody-engineered red blood cell(RBC-Ab)affinity interface on microfluidic chip for high-performance isolation and release of CTCs.The lateral fluidity, pliability, and anti-adhesion property of the RBC microfluidic interface enabled efficient CTCs capture(96.5%),high CTCs viability(96.1%),and high CTCs purity(average 4.2-log depletion of leukocytes).More importantly, selective lysis of RBCs by simply changing the salt concentration was utilized to destroy the affinity interface for efficient and gentle release of CTCs without nucleic acid contamination.Using this chip,CTCs were successfully detected in colon cancer samples with 90%sensitivity and 100%specificity(20 patients and 10 healthy individuals). After the release process,KRAS gene mutations of CTCs were identified from all the 5 cancer samples, which was consistent with the results of tissue biopsy. We expect this RBC interface strategy will inspire further biomimetic interface construction for rare cell analysis. | Haicong Shen Rui Su Jiao Peng Lin Zhu Kunyue Deng Qi Niu Yanling Song Liu Yang Lingling Wu Zhi Zhu Chaoyong Yang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,5: | 1
