2A novel quantified bitterness evaluation model for traditional Chinese herbs based on an animal ethology principle显示文摘Traditional Chinese herbs(TCH) are currently gaining attention in disease prevention and health care plans. However, their general bitter taste hinders their use. Despite the development of a variety of taste evaluation methods, it is still a major challenge to establish a quantitative detection technique that is objective, authentic and sensitive. Based on the two-bottle preference test(TBP), we proposed a novel quantitative strategy using a standardized animal test and a unified quantitative benchmark. To reduce the difference of results, the methodology of TBP was optimized. The relationship between the concentration of quinine and animal preference index(PI) was obtained. Then the PI of TCH was measured through TBP, and bitterness results were converted into a unified numerical system using the relationship of concentration and PI. To verify the authenticity and sensitivity of quantified results,human sensory testing and electronic tongue testing were applied. The quantified results showed a good discrimination ability. For example, the bitterness of Coptidis Rhizoma was equal to 0.0579 mg/mL quinine, and Nelumbinis Folium was equal to 0.0001 mg/mL. The validation results proved that the newassessment method for TCH was objective and reliable. 3Effect of cooling rates on the dendritic morphology transition of Mg–6Gd alloy by in situ X-ray radiography显示文摘The effect of cooling rate on the transition of dendrite morphology of a Mg-6 Gd(wt%) alloy was semiquantitatively analyzed under a constant temperature gradient by using synchrotron X-ray radiographic technique. Results show that equiaxed dendrites, including exotic 'butterfly-shaped' dendrite morphology, dominate at high cooling rate(>1 K/s). When the cooling rate decreases in the range of 0.5–1 K/s, the equiaxed-to-columnar transition takes place, and solute segregates at the center of two long dendrite arms(LDA) of the 'butterfly-shaped' dendrite. When the cooling rate is lower than 0.3 K/s, directional solidification occurs and the columnar dendritic growth direction gradually rotates from the crystalline axis to the thermal gradient direction with an increase in cooling rate. Meanwhile, interface moves faster but the dendrite arm spacing decreases. 5Gut microbiome alterations and its link to corticosteroid resistance in immune thrombocytopenia显示文摘Quantitative metagenomic studies have linked the gut microbiota to autoimmune disorders.Here,we performed deep shotgun metagenomic sequencing of fecal samples from 99 immune thrombocytopenia(ITP)patients and 52 healthy controls.Dysbiosis in the gut microbiome of ITP was detected phylogenetically and functionally,and classifier based on species markers distinguished individuals with ITP from healthy controls.In particular,the abundance of Ruminococcus gnavus,Bifidobacterium longum and Akkermansia muciniphila was markedly increased in treatment-na?ve ITP patients,and the alterations of microbial species were correlated with clinical indices.Functionally,the secondary bile acid biosynthesis and flagellar assembly were depleted in the gut microbiota of ITP,which may contribute to the onset of ITP by affecting the immune system.Furthermore,we found that corticosteroid treatment affected the gut microbiome of ITP.Compared with corticosteroid-sensitive ITP patients,we identified that the corticosteroid-resistant ITP patients displayed a distinct gut microbiome,which was different from that of the treatment-na?ve ITP patients.Together,we provided support for the critical role of gut microbiota in the development of ITP and established a foundation for further research characterizing gut microbiota in relation to corticosteroid resistance of ITP.Yanan Wang Fengqi Liu Gaochao Zhang Yan Su Xueyan Sun Qi Chen Chencong Wang Haixia Fu Yun He Xiaolu Zhu Xiao Liu Meng Lv Xiangyu Zhao Xiaosu Zhao Yueying Li Qianfei Wang Xiaojun Huang Xiaohui Zhang 2021Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,5:6
6The desumoylating enzyme sentrin-specific protease 3 contributes to myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury显示文摘Sentrin-specific protease 3(SENP3), a member of the desumoylating enzyme family, is known as a redox sensor and could regulate multiple cellular signaling pathways. However, its implication in myocardial ischemia reperfusion(MIR) injury is unclear. Here, we observed that SENP3 was expressed and upregulated in the mouse heart depending on reactive oxygen species(ROS) production in response to MIR injury. By utilizing si RNA-mediated cardiac specific gene silencing, SENP3 knockdown was demonstrated to significantly reduce MIR-induced infarct size and improve cardiac function. Mechanistic studies indicated that SENP3 silencing ameliorated myocardial apoptosis mainly via suppression of endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress and mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis pathways. By contrast, adenovirusmediated cardiac SENP3 overexpression significantly exaggerated MIR injury. Further molecular analysis revealed that SENP3 promoted mitochondrial translocation of dynamin-related protein 1(Drp1) in reperfused myocardium. In addition, mitochondrial division inhibitor-1(Mdivi-1), a pharmacological inhibitor of Drp1, significantly attenuated the exaggerated mitochondrial abnormality and cardiac injury by SENP3 overexpression after MIR injury. 7Grain nucleation and growth behavior of a Sn-Pb alloy affected by direct current: An in situ investigation显示文摘In situ synchrotron X-ray radiography was used to study the effect of direct current(DC) on the grain nucleation and growth of Sn-50 wt.%Pb alloy. The results showed that applying DC adequately during solidification could effectively enhance the grain nucleation and inhibit its growth. Imaging of comparative experiments with varying DC intensity indicated that the final grain size, determined by the competition between grain nucleation and growth, was sensitively dependent on the DC intensity. It was found that the average grain size was decreased from 1632 to 567 μm with DC density of 1.5 A/mm^2 compared to the case without DC. 8Analysis of magnetotail flux rope events by ARTEMIS observations显示文摘Three earthward flowing magnetic flux ropes observed in the duskside plasma sheet at geocentric solar magnetospheric coordinate X~–55 Re by P1 and P2 of acceleration,reconnection,turbulence and electrodynamics of moon’s interaction with the sun mission during 13:00–15:00 UT on July 3,2012,were studied.The morphologies of the flux ropes were studied in detail based on Grad-Shfranov reconstruction method and electronic pitch angle distribution data.It is found that(1)the flux rope cross-sectional dimensions are 1.0 Re×0.78 Re,1.3 Re×0.78 Re,and 2.5 Re×1.25 Re,respectively.The magnetic field lines were asymmetric about the center with field line compression on both sides of the current sheet at the leading region;(2)the electron energy flux data presented asymmetry with larger electron flux and lower temperature in the precursor region.The flux ropes were blocked by the resistance of compressed particle density in the front central plasma sheet and the enhanced magnetic field on its sides;and(3)it is found that the flux rope has a layered structure.From inside out,event 1 can be divided into three regions,namely electronic depletion core region,closed field line region,and the caudal area possible with fields connected with the ionosphere.It suggests that the flux ropes cannot merge with the tail magnetic field lines near the lunar orbit.Especially,the flux rope asymmetrical shape reflects the different reconnection processes that caused it on both sides of the magnetic structure.The events shown in this paper support the multiple X-line magnetic reconnection model for flux ropes with in situ observations.TIAN AnMin SHI QuanQi ZONG QiuGang DU Jian FU SuiYan DAI YaNan 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,5:5

10Defect-mediated reactivity of Pt/TiO2 catalysts:the different role of titanium and oxygen vacancies显示文摘Defects are ubiquitous in oxide supports and can often tune the catalytic property of supported metal catalysts.This work describes the distinct role of titanium and oxygen vacancies of TiO2 supports in the catalytic performance of supported Pt catalysts for CO oxidation.Pt was loaded on the TiO2 supports with oxygen vacancies(VO-TiO2)and titanium vacancies(VTiTiO2).It was found that different defects of TiO2 could distinctively modify the electron property of Pt and thereby CO adsorption strength.The strength of CO adsorption on Pt/VTi-TiO2 is enhanced,while that of Pt/VO-TiO2 becomes weaker.Additionally,the presence of defects would also promote the reducibility of catalysts.On the account of the superior redox ability,both Pt/VTi-TiO2 and Pt/VO-TiO2 exhibit a higher activity than Pt supported on normal TiO2 for CO oxidation.Quan Xiao Yanan Wang Zhi-Jian Zhao Chunlei Pei Sai Chen Lijun Gao Rentao Mu Qiang Fu Jinlong Gong 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,9:4
11Delay-weight plasticity-based supervised learning in optical spiking neural networks显示文摘We propose a modified supervised learning algorithm for optical spiking neural networks,which introduces synaptic time-delay plasticity on the basis of traditional weight training.Delay learning is combined with the remote supervised method that is incorporated with photonic spike-timing-dependent plasticity.A spike sequence learning task implemented via the proposed algorithm is found to have better performance than via the traditional weight-based method.Moreover,the proposed algorithm is also applied to two benchmark data sets for classification.In a simple network structure with only a few optical neurons,the classification accuracy based on the delay-weight learning algorithm is significantly improved compared with weight-based learning.The introduction of delay adjusting improves the learning efficiency and performance of the algorithm,which is helpful for photonic neuromorphic computing and is also important specifically for understanding information processing in the biological brain.Yanan Han Shuiying Xiang Zhenxing Ren Chentao Fu Aijun Wen Yue Hao 2021Photonics Research2021,9,4:4
12Concise and efficient direct-view generation of arbitrary cylindrical vector beams by a vortex half-wave plate显示文摘A concise, efficient, and practical direct-view scheme is presented to generate arbitrary cylindrical vector(CV)beams, including CV beams, vortex beams, and cylindrical vector vortex(CVV) beams, by a vortex half-wave plate(VHP). Six kinds of first-order and other high-order CV beams, such as azimuthally polarized(AP) beams, antivortex radial polarization mode beams, and three-order AP beams, are formed by simply rotating a half-wave plate. The Stokes parameters and double-slit interference of multitype CV beams are investigated in detail.The polarization parameters, including degree of polarization, polarization azimuth, and ellipticity, are obtained,which demonstrates the efficient generation of CV beams. In addition, the double-slit interference experiment is introduced in the setup, and fringe misplacement and tilt appear for CVV beams, in which the misplacement number M is 2P+1 for P ≤ 2 and 2P-1 for P ≥ 3, where P is the polarization order number, and the fringe tilt offset is positively related to the topological charge number l of CVV beams. In addition, new types of VHPs can be formed by cascading two or more VHPs when the types of available VHPs are limited, assisting in more flexible generation of multitype CV beams. 13Revealing the influence of high magnetic field on the solute distribution during directional solidification of Al-Cu alloy显示文摘The effect of the high magnetic field(MF)on the distribution of solute concentration during directional solidification of Al-Cu alloy under low growth speed was experimentally investigated.The amount of nonequilibrium eutectic is quantified via X-ray computed tomography(XCT)and demonstrated to reduce with the application of MF.Further,experimental results reveal that the MF alleviates the microsegregation and increases the average Cu concentration in solid solution,leading to the increases of the effective partition coefficient ke.It was also found that Cu concentration in solid solution increases continuously with the increasing intensity of MF,following the strengthening of micro-hardness.The change of ke under the MF is demonstrated to attribute to the thermoelectric magnetic convection(TEMC)in the mushy zone and the thermoelectric magnetic force(TEMF)acting on the solid.The TEMC is supposed to cause secondary convection owing to the inequality in flow velocities of circulation in different positions of dendrite stem.And the vacancies created by the proliferation and movement of dislocations induced by TEMF in the matrix is supposed to be able to capture solute atoms and thus enhance the solute concentration in the solid solution.Pengchuan Wang Sansan Shuai Chenglin Huang Xin Liu Yanan Fu Jiang Wang Zhongming Ren 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,29:3
14Utilization and quality assessment of digestive endoscopy in China:results from 5-year consecutive nationwide surveys显示文摘Background:Worldwide,the volume and availability of digestive endoscopy have undergone dramatic development in recent years,with increasing attention on quality assurance.We investigated the utilization and quality of digestive endoscopy in China from 2015 to 2019 and developed a quantitative quality evaluation tool for medical institutions.Methods:We invited all tertiary/secondary hospitals in Chinese mainland to participate in the survey annually.The questionnaires included the personnel,annual volume,and quality indicators of endoscopy.An endoscopy quality index(EQI)was developed based on recorded quality indicators using principal component analysis to determine the relative weight.Results:From 2015 to 2019,806,1412,2644,2468,and 2541 hospitals were respectively enrolled in this study.The average annual volume of endoscopy increased from 12,445 to 16,206(1.30-fold)and from 2938 to 4255(1.45-fold)in tertiary and secondary hospitals,respectively.The most obvious growth was observed in diagnostic colonoscopy(1.44-fold for all hospitals after standardization).The proportion of early cancer among all esophageal and gastric cancers during diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy increased from 12.3%(55,210/448,861)to 17.7%(85,429/482,647)and from 11.4%(69,411/608,866)to 16.9%(107,192/634,235),respectively.The adenoma detection rate of diagnostic colonoscopy increased from 14.9%(2,118,123/14,215,592)to 19.3%(3,943,203/20,431,104).The EQI model included 12 quality indicators,incorporating 64.9%(7.792/12)of the total variance into one comprehensive index.According to the EQI measurements,the quality of endoscopy was higher in tertiary hospitals and hospitals in developed areas with higher volume or more endoscopists than that in other hospitals.Conclusions:Digestive endoscopy in China has developed considerably in recent years in terms of both volume and quality.The EQI is a promising tool to quantify the quality of endoscopy at different hospitals.Lei Xin Ye Gao Zhiyuan Cheng Tianjiao Wang Han Lin Yanan Pang Chang Sun Zengjun Fu Zhaoshen Li Xudong Ma Luowei Wang 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,135,16:3
15Thermoelectric properties of Ag-doped compound:Mg_(3-x)Ag_(x)Sb_(2)显示文摘Mg_(3)Sb_(2)-based thermoelectric materials have poor electrical conductivity which is the key to limit thermoelectric performance that need to be solved.Herein we tuned the carrier concentration of Mg_(3)Sb_(2)-based materials via Ag doping at the Mg sites(at two distinct crystallographic sites)to enhance the electrical performance.Mg_(3-x)Ag_(x)Sb_(2)(0≤x≤0.05)has been prepared successfully by vacuum suspension smelting plus Spark Plasma Sintering technique.Using the vacuum suspension smelting plus Spark Plasma Sintering method,we proved that Ag doping can precisely tune the electrical transport properties and accordingly enhance the power factor.Moreover,the Ag doping leads to a low lattice thermal conductivity due to phonons scattering,and the maximal thermoelectric figure of merit ZT for Mg_(3-x)Ag_(x)Sb_(2)reaches 0.66 at 773 K.Yanan Fu Xin Zhang Hongliang Liu Jie Tian Jiuxing Zhang 2018Journal of Materiomics2018,4,1:2
16Arabidopsis ECAP Is a New Adaptor Protein that Connects JAZ Repressors with the TPR2 Co-repressor to Suppress Jasmonate-Responsive Anthocyanin Accumulation显示文摘Suppression mechanisms mediated by transcriptional repressors commonly exist in diverse phytohormone signaling pathways.In Arabidopsis thaliana,JASMONATE-ZIM DOMAIN(JAZ)proteins are transcriptional repressors that function as negative regulators of diverse JA responses.Novel Interactor of JAZ(NINJA)is an adaptor protein connecting JAZs with the co-repressor,TOPLESS(TPL),to mediate gene repression in JA-dependent root growth inhibition and defense pathways.However,whether NINJA or other adaptor proteins are employed in other JA-responsive biological processes remains to be elucidated.In the present study,we demonstrate that a previously uncharacterized protein,ECAP(EAR motif-Containing Adaptor Protein),directly interacts with JAZ6 and JAZ8 and enhances their transcriptional repression activities.We provide evidence that ECAP is a novel adaptor protein for JAZ6/8 recruitment of the transcriptional co-repressor,TOPLESS-RELATED 2(TPR2),into a transcriptional repressor complex that represses the WD-repeat/bHLH/MYB complex,an important transcriptional activator in the JA-dependent anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway.Our findings,together with previous reports,reveal that specific adaptor proteins play a critical role in distinct JA responses by pairing different JAZs(which possess overlapping but also specific functions)with the general co-repressors,TPL and TPRs.Changjiang Li Lei Shi Yanan Wang Wei Li Binqing Chen Lei Zhu Ying Fu 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,2:2
17Three dimensional microstructures and wear resistance of Al-Bi immiscible alloys with different grain refiners显示文摘The three dimensional(3D) microstructures of Al-Bi alloys with different grain refiners(Al-5Ti-B, Al-3B and Al-3Ti) have been studied using synchrotron X-ray microtomography. The relationships between the microstructures and the corresponding wear behavior are verified through the friction and wear tests. The worn surfaces of the samples with grain refiners tested under 15 and 60 N loads are analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM). The results indicate that the addition of grain refiners is beneficial to the size and distribution of the Bi-rich particles in Al-Bi alloys. Compared with Al-5Ti-B and Al-3B grain refiners, the Bi-rich particles are more uniformly distributed and spherical with finer size with the addition of Al-3Ti grain refiner. 18The chimeric gene atp6c confers cytoplasmic male sterility in maize by impairing the assembly of the mitochondrial ATP synthase complex显示文摘Cytoplasmic male sterility(CMS)is a powerful tool for the exploitation of hybrid heterosis and the study of signaling and interactions between the nucleus and the cytoplasm.C-type CMS(CMS-C)in maize has long been used in hybrid seed production,but the underlying sterility factor and its mechanism of action remain unclear.In this study,we demonstrate that the mitochondrial gene atp6c confers male sterility in CMS-C maize.The ATP6C protein shows stronger interactions with ATP8 and ATP9 than ATP6 during the assembly of F1F0-ATP synthase(F-type ATP synthase,ATPase),thereby reducing the quantity and activity of assem-bled F_(1)F_(o)-ATP synthase.By contrast,the quantity and activity of the F1'component are increased in CMS-C lines.Reduced F1F0-ATP synthase activity causes accumulation of excess protons in the inner membrane space of the mitochondria,triggering a burst of reactive oxygen species(ROS),premature programmed cell death of the tapetai cells,and pollen abortion.Collectively,our study identifies a chimeric mitochondrial gene(ATP6C)that causes CMS in maize and documents the contribution of ATP6C to F1F0-ATP synthase assembly,thereby providing novel insights into the molecular mechanisms of male sterility in plants.Huili Yang Yadong Xue Bing Li Yanan Lin Haochuan Li Zhanyong Guo Weihua Li Zhiyuan Fu Dong Ding Jihua Tang 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,5:2
