| 1 | End of Life Experience of Symptom Cluster and Their Management in Hong Kong Chinese Patients with Lung Cancer Who Receive Palliative Radiotherapy显示文摘Breathlessness, fatigue, and anxiety are distressing symptoms for patients with advanced lung cancer, however, they are not relieved by palliative RT and are often viewed as neglected areas of clinical practice. This paper aims to review def initions of, and explore patients' experiences of, breathlessness, fatigue, and anxiety. Further, it will outline existing approaches, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, to treat them. Current treatments and perceptions of these symptoms will be discussed in the context of Hong Kong health care service. The review of literature also shows that breathlessness, fatigue and anxiety appears to have similar emotional origins. Many models, frameworks, methods and techniques have been proposed and studied. It is perhaps the time to seek for a general and unified view so that fundamental issues can be examined and clarified.This paper examines granular computing from three perspectives.By viewing granular computing as a way of structured thinking,we focus on its philosophical foundations in modeling human perception of the reality.By viewing granular computing as a method of structured problem solving,we examine its theoretical and methodological foundations in solving a wide range of real-world problems.By viewing granular computing as a paradigm of information processing,we turn our attention to its more concrete techniques. | 3 | Numerical Simulation of Electroosmotic Flow near Earthworm Surface显示文摘The electroosmotic flow near an earthworm surface is simulated numerically to further understand the anti soil adhesion mechanism of earthworm. A lattice Poisson method is employed to solve electric potential and charge distributions in the electric double layer along the earthworm surface. The external electric field is obtained by solving a Laplace equation. The electroosmotic flow controlled by the Navier-Stokes equations with external body force is simulated by the lattice Boltzmann method. A benchmark test shows that accurate electric potential distributions can be obtained by the LPM. The simulation shows that the moving vortices, which probably contribute to anti soil adhesion, are formed near earthworm body surface by the nonuniform and variational electrical force. | Y.Q. | 4 | Effects of Boron Addition on Grain Refinement in TiAl-based Alloys显示文摘Solid state phase transformation characteristics of the body centred β(Ti) into the hexagonal closed packed α(Ti) in Ti45Al8Nb-(0, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.8 at. pct) B alloys were investigated by heat treatment to clarify γ/α2 lamellar microstructure refinement induced by B addition. Experimental results confirmed two kinds of boron-reduced grain refinement mechanisms through refining either β phase then α phase (β-refinement) or α phase directly (α-refinement) to refine lamellar microstructure at room temperature; however, the role of α-refinement dominated the as-cast lamellar microstructure refinement over β-refinement in Ti45Al8NbxB alloy. It was also found that during the α-refinement the convoluted flake- and plate-like borides along β grain boundaries assisted nucleation of α phase, and the particle-like borides near β grain boundaries impeded α phase growth. | W.D. | 5 | EFFECT OF STRUCTURAL PARAMETERS ON THE THERMAL STRESS OF A NiFe_(2)O_(4)-BASED CERMET INERT ANODE IN ALUMINUM ELECTROLYSIS显示文摘Inert anode has been a hot issue in the aluminum industry for many decades. With the help of FEA(finite element analysis) software ANSYS,a model was developed to simulate the thermal stress distribution working condition of an inert anode. To reduce its thermal stress,the effect of some parameters on the thermal stress distribution was investigated,including the anode height,the anode radius,the hole depth,the hole radius,and the radius of inner chamfer and outer chamfer. The results showed that in the actual working condition of an inert anode,there existed a large axial tensile stress near the tangent interface between the anode and bath,which was the major cause of anode breaking. Increasing the anode height and reducing the hole depth properly seemed to be beneficial for the stress distribution. With the increase of anode radius,the stress distribution became better first and then deteriorated,the reasonable value was between 0.045 to 0.06m. The hole radius had a significant effect on the stress and a smaller radius would reduce the thermal stress. | 7 | MODELING OF FERRITE GRAIN GROWTH OF LOW CARBON STEELS DURING HOT ROLLING显示文摘For most commercial steels the prediction of the final properties depends on accurately calculating the room temperature ferrite grain size. A grain growth model is proposed for low carbon steels Q235B during hot rolling. By using this model, the initial ferrite grain size after continuous cooling and ferrite grain growing in coiling procedure can be predicted. Finally, in-plant trials were performed in the hot strip mill of Ansteel. The calculated final ferrite grain sizes are in good agreement with the experimental ones. | 13 | SIMULATION OF THE CHANGE OF SINTERING NECK BETWEEN TWO GRAINS IN TWO DIMENSIONS显示文摘A modified two-sphere model of sintering neck has been proposed, wherein three diffusion mechanisms including surface diffusion, grain-boundary diffusion and coupled surface and grain-boundary diffusion are assumed. Sintering neck is appropriately simulated using the modified model. The dynamic change of sintering neck is presented using the simulation. The variational shape of sintering neck in surface diffusion mechanism is continuous, whereas in grain-boundary diffusion mechanism, besides the variational shape of sintering neck being continuous, the center distance between the particles is also assumed to contract. | 14 | LOW CYCLE FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF AZ91HP ALLOY IN AS HIGHP RESSURE DIE CASTING显示文摘Fully reversed total strain-controlled low-cycle fatigue tests were conducted at room temperature in air to study fatigue behavior of AZ91HP in as high pressure die casting and subsequently heat treatments. All the specimens in different heat histories exhibited cyclic strum hardening in different degrees. It was difficult to distinguish the fatigue behaviors of the die-casting specimens from the solution-aging specimens. However the solution treated specimens showed longerfatigue life at high strum amplitude and shorter fatigue life at low strain amplitude than die-casting and the solution-aging specimens though they had the lowest yield strength with higher strain hardening. Fatigue fracture surfaces for strain amplitude larger than 0.005 showed very similar to those of the monotonic tensile tests. The SEM examination revealed that regions of fatigue crack growth and final fracture could be characterized by quasi-cleavage mech anisms, but some shallow dimples, slip bands and secondary cracks were found on the fracture surface in the fracturs crack growth areas. | Liu, Z. | 18 | Effects of Delayed Second Cochlear Implant显示文摘Objective Since Helms' successful bilateral cochlear implantation with good results in 1996, there have been increasing number of reports on bilateral cochlear implantation. Most second device have been implantated within one year after the first. Considering effects of long time auditory deprivation, it is not clear whether a delayed second cochlear implant serves to add additional benefits and how it may interact with central nervous system plasticity. Methods Three cases who received delayed second cochlear implants at People's Hospital of Peking University from 2002 to 2005 were reviewed. The interval between the first and second implants was longer than 2 years in all three patients. Sound perception, and unilateral/bilateral speech discrimination in quiet and noise were evaluated. In addition, GAP detection test was conducted in one patient. Results In one case, having both implants on provided improved performance compared to using only one implant both in quiet and noise. Presumably due to visual interference from lip-reading or short interval between second implant and testing, one patient showed no improvement from using the second implant either in quiet or noise, while the last case demonstrated additional benefits from the second implant only in quiet. In all three patients, performance in recognizing the four tones in Mandarin was superior over word recognition. Conclusions Considerable plasticity in the cerebral auditory center is preserved, despite long acoustic deprivation in some children who have received unilateral cochlear implant. Delayed second implants can result in significant improvements in some of these children. Visual interference from lip-reading may be an obstacle during retraining.
