1And-hyperglycemic activity of leaves extract of Hyptis suavcolens L.Poit in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antihyperglycemic activity of leaves of Hyptis suaveolens using streptozotocin model.Mothods:Hyptis suaveolens extract(HSE) 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight was administered orally to streptozotocin induced diabetes,once daily for 21 days.Results:A significant reduction in blood glucose was observed in diabetic animals treated with HSE at different doses when compared with diabetic rats.Levels of triglyceride,total cholesterol,low density lipoprolein.very low density lipoprotein were decreased while administering HSE at different doses,compared with their control values in diabetic animals.Conclusions:Our results show that HSE possesses significant antihyperglycemic activity which might be attributed to stimulating effects on glucose utilization and antioxidant enzyme.Shanti Bhushan Mishra Amita Verma Alok Mukerjee Vijayakumar M 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,9:4
2Herbal antioxidant in clinical practice:A review显示文摘Antioxidant-the word itself is magic.Using the antioxidant concept as a spearhead in proposed mechanisms for staving off so-called'free-radical'reactions,the rush is on to mine claims for the latest and most effective combination of free-radical scavenging compounds.We must acknowledge that such'radicals'have definitively been shown to damage all biochemical components such as DNA/HNA,carbohydrates,unsaturated lipids,proteins,and micronutrients such as carotenoids(alpha and beta carotene,lycopene),vitamins A,B_6,B_(12),and folate.Defense strategies against such aggressive radical species include enzymes,antioxidants that occur naturally in the body(glutathione,uric acid,ubiquinol-10,and others)and radical scavenging nutrients,such as vitamins A,C,and E,and carotenoids.This paper will present a brief discussion of some well-and little-known herbs that may add to the optimization of antioxidant status and therefore offer added preventive values for overall health.It is important to state at the outset that antioxidants vary widely in their free-radical quenching effects and each may be individually attracted to specific cell sites.Further evidence of the specialized nature of the carotenoids is demonstrated by the appearance of two carotenoids in the macula region of the retina where beta-carotene is totallyShashi Alok Sanjay Kumar Jain Amita Verma Mayank Kumar Alok Mahor Monika Sabharwal 2014Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,1:4

17Comparison of Dartos flap and spongioplasty in Snodgrass urethroplasty in distal penile hypospadias显示文摘Background Hypospadias surgery has been continuously evolving,although there is no single technique which can be said to be perfect and suitable for all types of hypospadias.Tubularized incised plate(TIP)urethroplasty(Snodgrass procedure)is presently the most common surgical procedure performed for distal penile hypospadias(DPH).The aim of this study was to compare the outcome of TIP urethroplasty using Dartos flap(DF)and spongioplasty as second layer in DPH.Methods A total of 30 patients of DPH were repaired using TIP urethroplasty with DF or spongioplasty as second layer from January 2017 to June 2018.Out of 30 patients,TIP with DF was done in 15 patients(group A)and TIP with spongioplasty was done in the remaining 15 patients(group B).Preoperative mean age and weight were comparable in both groups.Postoperative complications,namely,postoperative edema,residual chordee,urethrocutaneous fistula(UCF),meatal stenosis and final cosmesis,were recorded.Results In both groups,complications included postoperative edema(Gp A-1Gp B-1),residual chordee(Gp A-1,Gp B-1),UCF(Gp A-3,Gp B-4),meatal stenosis(Gp A-1,Gp B-5)and poor cosmesis(Gp A-3,Gp B-4).Wound infection was managed with appropriate antibiotics,and meatal stenosis responded to calibration in five patients.Although it seems that DF has a better outcome clinically,the difference between the two techniques was statistically not significant.Conclusion DF as an additional cover to TIP is associated with an acceptable complication and has good cosmesis compared with spongioplasty;however,the difference is not statistically significant.Anju Verma Shahid Murtaza Vijay Kumar Kundal Amita Sen Divya Gali 2021World Journal of Pediatric Surgery2021,4,3:0
