Preferential feeding of an anthocorid predator Blaptostethus pallescens Poppius on different stages of cotton mealybug显示文摘Blaptostethus pallescens Poppius (Heteroptera:Anthocoridae),which is amenable to mass rearing, has proved to be a potential predator of sucking pests like mites and thrips.Recently, the cotton mealybug Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley emerged as a serious pest on cotton in India.Laboratory studies indicated that B.pallescens could feed on the cotton mealybug.Hence, further investigations were conducted to understand the stage of the predator which is most potential and the pest stage preferred by the predator.Mature nymphs and adults of B.pallescens could predate equally well on the neonates of cotton mealybug.Young (three to four-day-old) nymphs of the predator could not feed on any stage of the cotton mealybug.Mature nymphs (seven-day-old and above) and adults could effectively predate on both young and mature cotton mealybug crawlers, though preference was more for the younger crawlers. However, nymphs and adults of B.pallescens could not predate on the adult stage of the mealybug.Different predator:pest ratios were tested in cage studies and it emerged that B.pallescens adults released against the mealybug crawlers at a ratio of 1:5 and nymphal release at 1:10 caused maximum mortality of the mealybug crawlers.Considering the fast multiplication rate of cotton mealybug and the large number of predators which have to be released to manage them, further detailed studies are necessary on utilizing B.pallescens to target the neonates and younger stages of the cotton mealybug in field conditions. | Gupta Tripti | 2011 | 环境昆虫学报2011,33,4: | 0
Nanotechnology approaches towards biodeterioration-resistant wood:A review显示文摘Wood can be a suitable alternative to energy-intensive materials in various applications.Nev-ertheless,its susceptibility to weathering and decay has significantly hindered the broad adop-tion of the most commercially significant wood species. While current solutions do tackle certain challenges, they often come with disadvantages like high costs, environmental risks,and/or in-efficiencies.Nanotechnology-based methods can be employed to mitigate these weaknesses and create durable, sustainable wood materials. In this review,we delve into cutting-edge advance-ments in the development of biodeterioration-resistant wood through innovative nanotechnol-ogy approaches. These methods usually involve the application of nanomaterials, either pos-sessing biocidal properties or serving as carriers for biocides. We systematically describe these approaches and compare them to conventional wood modification methods.Additionally, this re-view provides a brief overview of the prevalent biodeteriorating organisms and their mechanisms of action, which notably impact the development and choice of a suitable strategy for wood mod-ification/treatment.Given the requirements of biodeteriorating organisms for growth and wood degradation,it is expected that the new nanotechnology-based approaches to enhance wood dura-bility may provide innovative broad-spectrum biocidal nanosystems. These systems can simulta-neously induce alterations in the physicochemical properties of wood, thereby constraining the availability of the growth requirements. These alterations can efficiently inhibit the biodeterio-ration process by decreasing water absorption, restricting access to the wood components, and reducing void spaces within the wood structure. Finally, this review highlights the new oppor-tunities,challenges,and perspectives of nanotechnology methods for biodeterioration-resistant wood, through which some techno-economic,environmental and safety aspects associated with these methods are addressed. | Ayyoob Arpanaei Qiliang Fu Tripti Singh | 2024 | Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2024,9,1: | 0
MRMR Based Feature Vector Design for Efficient Citrus Disease Detection显示文摘In recent times, the images and videos have emerged as one of the most important information source depicting the real time scenarios.Digital images nowadays serve as input for many applications and replacing the manual methods due to their capabilities of 3D scene representation in 2D plane. The capabilities of digital images along with utilization of machine learning methodologies are showing promising accuracies in many applications of prediction and pattern recognition. One of the application fields pertains to detection of diseases occurring in the plants, which are destroying the widespread fields.Traditionally the disease detection process was done by a domain expert using manual examination and laboratory tests. This is a tedious and time consuming process and does not suffice the accuracy levels. This creates a room for the research in developing automation based methods where the images captured through sensors and cameras will be used for detection of disease and control its spreading. The digital images captured from the field’s forms the dataset which trains the machine learning models to predict the nature of the disease. The accuracy of these models is greatly affected by the amount of noise and ailments present in the input images, appropriate segmentation methodology, feature vector development and the choice of machine learning algorithm. To ensure the high rated performance of the designed system the research is moving in a direction to fine tune each and every stage separately considering their dependencies on subsequent stages. Therefore the most optimum solution can be obtained by considering the image processing methodologies for improving the quality of image and then applying statistical methods for feature extraction and selection. The training vector thus developed is capable of presenting the relationship between the feature values and the target class. In this article,a highly accurate system model for detecting the diseases occurring in citrus fruits using a hybrid feature development approach is proposed. The overall improvement in terms of accuracy is measured and depicted. | Bobbinpreet Sultan Aljahdali Tripti Sharma Bhawna Goyal Ayush Dogra Shubham Mahajan Amit Kant Pandit | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,9: | 0
A comparative study of Epipactis atrorubens in two different forest communities of the Middle Urals, Russia显示文摘The objective of this study was to compare ecophysiological and morphological parameters of a regionally endangered orchid species,Epipactis atrorubens(Hoffm.ex Bernh.)Bess.,growing in two forest communities(on serpentine and granite outcrops)of the Middle Urals,Russia.Biodiversity, dominance, and phytocoenosis studies showed the colonization of a wide range of plant species on both sites. The physicochemical properties of the soil, chemical composition and morphological features of E.atrorubens, growing under technogenic conditions(asbestos deposits),on serpentine outcrops and in the natural environment of the granite massif were studied for the first time. The serpentine substrate differed from the granite one by its greater stoniness, circumneutral pH and lower contents of available nitrogen and phosphorus.Extremely high concentrations of magnesium were found in the serpentine soil, some 79 times higher than in the granite substrate.High concentrations of nickel(94 times),chromium(59 times),cobalt(17 times),and iron(4 times)were found in the serpentine substrate, higher than in the granite substrate. The differences between the sites for available metal contents and for root and shoot metal contents were significantly less.Concentrations of most of the metals in the roots were higher than in the shoots.Despite higher metal concentrations and lower nitrogen and phosphorus levels in serpentine soils,E.atrorubens had a larger population and greater viability compared to those growing on granite.Plants on serpentine outcrops were characterized by the formation of a larger number of fruits, greater root lengths and thicker leaf blades, compared to plants on granites. The well-developed orchid mycorrhizae contributed to the survival of this species under unfavorable serpentine conditions.Hence, serpentine outcrops formed due to the mining of asbestos could be a suitable substrate for the light-demanding E.atrorubens due to its capacity to adapt to dry,rocky,nutrient-depleted soils and limited competition from other plants. | Elena Filimonova Natalia Lukina Margarita Glazyrina Galina Borisova Tripti Adarsh Kumar Maria Maleva | 2020 | Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,6: | 0
Proteomics approaches for early detection and targeted therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer related mortality worldwide. HCC incidences have increased worldwide though more prevalent in Asia and Africa. Hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infections are mostly responsible of increased number of HCC cases. Biomarkers can help early detection and improve treatment regimen in patients as advanced stage is chemo-refractive with limited treatment options. Potential of proteomics in finding new biomarkers for early detection has been explored more recently. Future developments in this area rely on how efficiently we manage vast amount of data generated by these techniques and speed up the clinical trials to improve patient care. | Tripti Khare Sharad Khare Jamal A Ibdah | 2017 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2017,9,1: | 0
