2Applications of Three DNA Barcodes in Assorting Intertidal Red Macroalgal Flora in Qingdao, China显示文摘This study is part of the endeavor to construct a comprehensive DNA barcoding database for common seaweeds in China. Identifications of red seaweeds, which have simple morphology and anatomy, are sometimes difficult solely depending on morphological characteristics. In recent years, DNA barcode technique has become a more and more effective tool to help solve some of the taxonomic difficulties. Some DNA markers such as COI (cytochrome oxidase subunitⅠ) are proposed as standardized DNA barcodes for all seaweed species. In this study, COI, UPA (universal plastid amplicon, domain V of 23S rRNA), and ITS (nuclear internal transcribed spacer) were employed to analyze common species of intertidal red seaweeds in Qingdao (119.3 -121 E, 35.35 -37.09 N). The applicability of using one or a few combined barcodes to identify red seaweed species was tested. The results indicated that COI is a sensitive marker at species level. However, not all the tested species gave PCR amplification products due to lack of the universal primers. The second barcode UPA had effective universal primers but needed to be tested for the effectiveness of resolving closely related species. More than one ITS sequence types were found in some species in this investigation, which might lead to confusion in further analysis. 3A highly sensitive luminescent metal-organic framework thermometer for physiological temperature sensing显示文摘Thermal sensing and imaging in the physiological temperature range are of great importance for studying physiological processes and treating diseases. Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) exhibit great promise for developing luminescent thermometers due to their remarkable structural diversities and tunable luminescence properties. Here, we synthesized a series of luminescent mixed-lanthanide MOFs,Eu_xTb_(1-x)BPT(x = 0.019, 0.058, 0.106; H3 BPT = biphenyl-3,4',5-tricarboxylate acid) and adopted powder X-ray diffraction(PXRD), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) to characterize the resulting products. The temperature-dependent photoluminescence emission spectra were recorded to investigate their potential applications in physiological temperature readout. It is found that the intensity ratio of Tb^(3+) to Eu^(3+) is linearly correlated with temperature and the relative sensitivity is higher than 1.5%/℃ over the entire physiological temperature range. 4Temperature and light tolerance of representative brown,green and red algae in tumble culture revealed by chlorophyll fluorescence measurements显示文摘Laminaria japonica,Undaria pinnatifida,Ulva lactuca,Grateloupia turuturu and Palmaria palmata are suitable species that fit the requirements of a seaweed-animal integrated aquaculture system in terms of their viable biomass,rapid growth and promising nutrient uptake rates.In this investigation,the responses of the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield of the five algal species in tumble culture were assessed at a temperature range of 10~30℃.The results revealed that Ulva lactuca was the most resistant species to high temperature,withstanding 30℃ for 4 h without apparent decline in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield.While the arctic alga Palmaria palmata was the most vulnerable one,showing significant decline in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield at 25℃ for 2 h.The cold-water species Laminaria japonica,however,demonstrated strong ability to cope with higher temperature(24~26℃)for shorter time(within 24 h)without significant decline in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield.Grateloupia turuturu showed a general decrease in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield with the rising temperature from 23 to 30℃,similar to the temperate kelp Undaria pinnatifida.Changes of chlorophyll fluorescence yields of these algae were characterized differently indicating the existence of species-unique strategy to cope with high light.Measurements of the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield after short exposure to direct solar irradiance revealed how long these exposures could be without significant photoinhibition or with promising recovery in photosynthetic activities.Seasonal pattern of alternation of algal species in tank culture in the Northern Hemisphere at the latitude of 36°N was proposed according to these basic measurements.PANG Shaojun SHAN Tifeng 2008Acta Oceanologica Sinica2008,27,4:4
5Small RNAs in regulating temperature stress response in plants显示文摘Due to global climate change, temperature stress has become one of the primary causes of crop losses worldwide. Much progress has been made in unraveling the complex stress response mechanisms in plants, particularly in the identification of temperature stress responsive protein-coding genes. Recently discovered micro RNAs(mi RNAs) and endogenous small-interfering RNAs(si RNAs) have also been demonstrated as simportant players in plant temperature stress response.Using high-throughput sequencing, many small RNAs,especially mi RNAs, have been identified to be triggered by cold or heat. Subsequently, several studies have shown an important functional role for these small RNAs in cold or heat tolerance. These findings greatly broaden our understanding of endogenous small RNAs in plant stress response control. Here, we highlight new findings regarding the roles of mi RNAs and si RNAs in plant temperature stress response and acclimation. 7A Eu/Gd-mixed metal-organic framework for ultrasensitive physiological temperature sensing显示文摘A series of Eu/Gd-mixed metal-organic frameworks Eu_xGd_(1-x_NDC(x = 0.0005, 0.001, 0.003, 0.01;H2 NDC = 1,4-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid) utilizing back energy transfer have been developed for physiological temperature sensing. The suitable high triplet level of H_2NDC allows an efficient back energy transfer from Eu^(3+)ions to ligands. The back energy transfer efficiency is further enhanced by the Eu^(3+)/Gd(3+)-mixed strategy. As a consequence, the emission of Eu3+dramatically weakens when temperature arises. 8Ferric ion-ascorbic acid complex catalyzed calcium peroxide for organic wastewater treatment:Optimized by response surface method显示文摘Hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))disproportionation,iron precipitation,and narrow pH range are the drawbacks of traditional Fenton process.To surmount these barriers,we proposed a ferric ion(Fe^(3+))-ascorbic acid(AA)complex catalyzed calcium peroxide(CaO_(2))Fenton-like system to remove organic dyes in water.This collaborative Fe^(3+)/AA/CaO_(2)system presented an obvious improvement in the methyl orange(MO)decolorization,and also effectively eliminated other dyes.Response surface method was employed to optimize the running parameters for this coupling process.Under the optimized arguments(2.76 mmol/L Fe^(3+),0.68 mmol/L AA,and 4 mmol/L CaO_(2)),the MO removal achieved 98.90%after 15 min at pH 6.50,which was close to the computed outcome of 99.30%.Furthermore,this Fenton-like system could perform well in a wide range of pH(3-11),and enhance the H_(2)O_(2)decomposition and Fe ions recycle.The scavenger experiment result indicated that hydroxyl radical,superoxide anion free radical,and singlet oxygen were acted on the dye elimination.Moreover,electron spin resonance analysis corroborated that the existences of these active species in the Fe^(3+)/AA/CaO_(2)system.This study could advance the development of Fenton-like technique in organic effluent disposal.Deling Yuan Chen Zhang Shoufeng Tang Zetao Wang Qina Sun Xiaoyu Zhang Tifeng Jiao Qingrui Zhang 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,11:2

12Zoospores of Undaria pinnatifida:their efficiency to attach under different water velocities and conjugation behavior during attachment显示文摘In the invading course of Undaria pinnatifida, zoospore attachment in a dynamically changed subtidal water environment is crucial for the establishment of a potential population in alien waters. Among many abiotic factors that may interfere with the attachment process, water velocity is the most important one. In this investigation, the effect of water velocity on zoospore attachment of U. pinnatifida was investigated in an artificially designed system. It was found that freshly released zoospores that were transported by water flowing at 0~16 cm/s showed no difficulty in attaching the smooth surface. Zoospore attachment decreased at elevated water flowing rates. At 70 cm/s no spore attachment occurred. Spores that have settled on glass slide for up to 1 h could not be stripped away by flowing water at a rate of 129 cm/s, the same was true of the 20 d old filamentous gametophytes. 13Physiological and genome-wide gene expression analyses of cold-induced leaf rolling at the seedling stage in rice(Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘Leaf rolling and discoloration are two chilling-injury symptoms that are widely used as indicators for the evaluation of cold tolerance at the seedling stage in rice. However, the difference in cold-response mechanisms underlying these two traits remains unknown. In the present study, a cold-tolerant rice cultivar, Lijiangxintuanheigu, and a cold-sensitive cultivar, Sanhuangzhan-2, were subjected to low-temperature treatments and physiolog-ical and genome-wide gene expression analyses were conducted. Leaf rolling occurred at temperatures lower than 11℃, whereas discoloration appeared at moderately low temperatures such as 13℃. Chlorophyll contents in both cultivars were significantly decreased at 13℃, but not altered at 11℃. In contrast, the relative water content and relative electrolyte leakage of both cultivars decreased significantly at 11℃, but did not change at 13℃. Expression of genes associated with calcium signaling and abscisic acid (ABA) degradation was significantly altered at 11℃ in comparison with 25℃ and 13℃. Numerous genes in the DREB, MYB, bZIP, NAC, Zinc finger, bHLH, and WRKY gene families were differentially expressed. Many aquaporin genes and the key genes in trehalose and starch synthesis were down regulated at 11℃ in comparison with 25℃ and 13℃. These results suggest that the two chilling injury symptoms are temperature-specific and are controlled by different mechanisms. Cold-induced leaf rolling is associated with calcium and ABA signaling pathways and is regulated by multiple transcriptional regulators. 16Fabrication of hierarchical MXene-based AuNPs-containing core-shell nanocomposites for high efficient catalysts显示文摘MXene is a new type of layered two-dimensional transition metal carbide materials differing from graphene, demonstrating intriguing chemical/physical properties. Here the chemical modification of MXene and next fabrication of core-shell MXene-COOH@(PEI/PAA)_n composites have been investigated. The obtained MXene-based composites were treated with gold nanoparticles to form MXene—COOH@(PEI/PAA)_n@AuNPs nanocomposites, and their catalytic properties for nitro-compounds were studied. 17Ni_(2)P/MoS_(2) interfacial structures loading on N-doped carbon matrix for highly efficient hydrogen evolution显示文摘Electrochemical catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) have attracted increasing attentions. Noble metal-free cocatalysts play a vital role in HER applications. Herein, a novel strategy to prepare a Ni_(2)P/MoS_(2) cocatalyst through a simple hydrothermal-phosphorization method was reported, and the prepared cocatalyst was then loaded on an N-doped carbon substrate with excellent conductive performance. The large surface area of the carbon substrate provided many active sites, and the interface between Ni_(2)P and MoS_(2) improved the catalytic performance for the HER. Compared with pure Ni_(2)P catalyst and MoS_(2) catalyst, the prepared Ni_(2)P/MoS_(2) cocatalyst exhibited enhanced catalytic performance. In addition, the results indicate that the prepared cocatalyst has a wide p H range and low onset potential values of 280, 350 and40 m V in acidic, phosphate-buffered saline and alkaline solutions, respectively, and the corresponding Tafel slopes are 75, 121 and 95 mV dec^(-1),respectively. Density functional theory(DFT) was adopted to calculate the hydrogen adsorption free energy(ΔG_(H)^(*)). The results showed that the interface between Ni_(2)P and MoS_(2) reduced ΔG_H^(*), which was beneficial to the adsorption of hydrogen. 18Interfacial assembly of a series of Cu(Ⅱ)-coordinated Schiff bases complexes:Orderly nanostructures and supramolecular chirality显示文摘Four achiral Cu(Ⅱ)-coordinated Schiff bases complexes containing aromatic structures were synthesized and their supramolecular assemblies at the air/water interface were investigated.All the compounds could be spread on water surface although they have no alkyl chains.The Schiff base complex molecules with naphthyl groups tended to form J-aggregate in the Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films transferred from water surface.By investigation of atomic force microscopy,a multilayer film or three-dimensional structures were observed.It was interesting to note that the LB films of achiral compound Cu-NA with naphthyl segment and without methyl groups transferred from water surface showed chirality.The supramolecular chirality in the present LB films was suggested to be due to a cooperative stereoregular-stacking of the functional groups in a helical sense.This research work provides a helpful clue for regulating the nanostructures and supramolecular chiral assembly in organized films.JIAO TiFeng LI XuHui ZHANG QingRui LI QiuRong ZHOU JingXin GAO FaMing 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,1:0
19Potential of Ulva prolifera in phytoremediation of seawater polluted by cesium and cobalt: an experimental study on the biosorption and kinetics显示文摘Radionuclides accidentally released from nuclear power plants,such as ^(137)Cs and ^(60)Co,can lead to severe contamination of marine ecosystems.Living macroalgae are effi cient in absorbing metal elements from seawater.A 10-day simulation was conducted to assess the potential of scavenging cesium(Cs)and cobalt(Co)with live U lva prolifera that was cultured in seawater medium containing Cs and Co in diff erent concentrations(0(the control),10,20,50,and 100 mg/L).In the experiment,5 kg(fresh weight)of U.prolifera was cultured in natural seawater in 90-L tanks.Results showed that after the experiment,the average bioconcentration factors(BCFs)of the control group were 247.2 and 1126.4 for Cs and Co,respectively.The absolute absorption quantity of U.prolifera increased and the BCFs decreased with the increase in Cs and Co concentrations.The biosorption of the two metals on the fi rst day well fi t the pseudo-second-order equation(R^(2)>0.95),indicating that adsorption is the rate-limiting step in the total biosorption process.Concentrations of both metal ions declined signifi cantly in the fi rst hour and decreased by 25.2%and 15.5%in 48 h,respectively.Therefore,live U.prolifera is effi cient at scavenging Cs and Co in seawater,providing potential applications for the phytoremediation of radionuclides contaminated seawaters.Xuemei WANG Tifeng SHAN Shaojun PANG 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,4:0
20Temperature relations of aerial and aquatic physiological performance in a mid-intertidal limpet Cellana toreuma: Adaptation to rapid changes in thermal stress during emersion显示文摘The physiological performance of a mid-intertidal limpet Cellana toreuma was determined to study the physiological adaptation of intertidal animals to rapid changes and extreme temperatures during emersion.The relationship between the Arrhenius breakpoint temperature(ABT)and in situ operative body temperature was studied to predict the possible impact of climate change on the species.The temperature coefficient(Q10)of emersed animals was higher than that of submersed animals and the ratio of aerial:aquatic heart rate rose with increasing temperature.The ABTs of submersed and emersed animals were 30.2 and 34.2°C,respectively.The heart rate and levels of molecular biomarkers(hsps,ampkα,ampkβand sirt1 mRNA)were determined in 48 h simulated semi-diurnal tides.There were no obvious changes of heart rate and gene expression during the transition between emersion and submersion at room temperature,although expressions of hsp70 and hsp90 were induced significantly after thermal stress.These results indicate that C.toreuma can effectively utilize atmospheric oxygen,and the higher Q10 and ABT of emersed animals are adaptations to the rapid change and extreme thermal stress during emersion.However,the in situ operative body temperature frequently exceeds the aerial ABT of C.toreuma,indicating the occurrence of large-scale mortality of C.toreuma in summer,and this species should be sensitive to increasing temperature in the scenario of climate change.Xiongwei HUANG Tifeng WANG Ziwen YE Guodong HAN Yunwei DONG 2015Integrative Zoology2015,10,1:0
