| 1 | Using lightning locating system based on time-of-arrival technique to study three-dimensional lightning discharge processes显示文摘A time-of-arrival(TOA) system based on GPS technology for locating VHF radiation sources from lightning has been developed and used in observation sites in the northern Shandong Province,China.The 3D images of the lightning progression have been obtained successfully for the first time in China.The 3D-channel evolutions of typical negative CG,positive CG and IC lightning flashes have been discussed together with the data of fast electric field change.It was found that significant differences existed between the negative and positive CG lightning flashes in terms of the initiation and propagation of the radiation sources.The preliminary breakdown of a negative CG lightning flash propagated at a speed about 5.2×104 m/s.The stepped leader of negative CG lightning flashes was trigged by negative initial breakdown.Thereafter,it propagated downward at a speed of 1.3×105 m/s.The initial process of the positive CG lightning flashes was also a propagation process of negative streamer.These streamers propagated dominantly horizontally in the positive charge region and accumulated positive charges at the origin of the lightning,and as a consequence,initiated downward positive streamers.A new type of lightning discharge that was triggered by a narrow bipolar pulse(NBP) is discussed in this study.The NBP was originated at altitude of about 10.5 km in the upper positive charge region.As a distinct difference from normal IC flash,its channels extended horizontally all around and produced a lot of radiation sources.The source power of the NBP could approach 16.7 kW,which is much greater than that of normal lightning discharge ranging between 100 mW and 500 W.The 3D propagation of this new type of lightning discharge was observed and obtained for the first time in China.The possible initiation mechanism of this new type of light-ning is discussed here. | ZHANG GuangShu1,WANG YanHui1,QIE XiuShu2,ZHANG Tong1,ZHAO YuXiang1,3,LI YaJun1 & CAO DongJie11 Laboratory for Climate Environment and Disasters of Western China,Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Lanzhou 730000,China 2 Laboratory for Middle Atmosphere and Global Environment Observation(LAGEO),Institute of Atmospheric Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100029,China 3 Department of Physics,Tianshui Normal College,Tianshui 741001,China | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,4: | 21 |
| 2 | Zircon SHRIMP U–Pb age of Late Jurassic OIB-type volcanic rocks from the Tethyan Himalaya: constraints on the initial activity time of the Kerguelen mantle plume显示文摘This work presents zircon U–Pb age and wholerock geochemical data for the volcanic rocks from the Lakang Formation in the southeastern Tethyan Himalaya and represents the initial activity of the Kerguelen mantle plume. SHRIMP U–Pb dating of zircons from the volcanic rocks yielded a ^(206) Pb/^(238) U age of 147 ± 2 Ma that reflects the time of Late Jurassic magmatism. Whole rock analyses of major and trace elements show that the volcanic rocks are characterized by high content of Ti O_2(2.62 wt%–4.25 wt%) and P_2O_5(0.38 wt%–0.68 wt%), highly fractionated in LREE/HREE [(La/Yb)N= 5.35–8.31] with no obvious anomaly of Eu, and HFSE enrichment with no obvious anomaly of Nb and Ta, which are similar to those of ocean island basalts and tholeiitic basaltic andesites indicating a mantle plume origin. The Kerguelen mantle plume produced a massive amount of magmatic rocks from Early Cretaceous to the present, which widely dispersed from their original localities of emplacement due to the changing motions of the Antarctic, Australian, and Indian plates. However, our new geochronological and geochemical results indicate that the Kerguelen mantle plume started from the Late Jurassic. Furthermore, we suggest that the Kerguelen mantle plume may played a significant role in the breakup of eastern Gondwanaland according to the available geochronological, geochemical and paleomagnetic data. | Yuruo Shi Chenyang Hou J. | 4 | Template synthesis of N——F-codoped TiO_2 nanotubes with high visible light activity显示文摘A series of highly ordered N-F-codoped TiO2 nanotubes were synthesized with a simple template technique and the obtained samples were detected by FE-SEM and XPS. The UV-Vis absorption spectrum showed that after N-F-codoping,TiO2 nanotubes had a new absorption band at 425 nm,leading to a photoresponse in the visible region. | 5 | Simulation analysis on characteristics of land surface over western Qinghai-Xizang Plateau during freez-ing-thawing period显示文摘Using the Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment-Asian Monsoon-Tibet Plateau Experiment (GAME-Tibet) observa-tional data-from October 2002 through September 2003-of Gaize in the western Qinghai-Xizang Plateau (QXP),the land-surface characteristics of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau are simulated by the improved land-surface model Common Land Model (CoLM).The results show that CoLM can reproduce the land-surface characteristics of plateau areas well.In the sur-face-energy balance of the western QXP in the winter half year,the sensible heat (SH) flux constituted the dominant energy,and the latent heat (LH,here and after) flux is very small.Although the LH flux nearly equals zero in freezing season,it cannot be ig-nored during the period of freezing-thawing in QXP.In the transition season from midto late-May,the frequent phase change of soil water that is caused by the freezing-thawing process leads to the increase of LH flux and decrease of the Bowen ratio.The simulation results also indicate that the changes of surface effective heat fluxes (SH and LH flux) are associated with precipitation and the frequent change between freezing and thawing processes in soil surface. | ChengHai Wang,Rui Shi,Yang Cui,HongChao Zuo College of Atmospheric Sciences,Lanzhou University.No.222,South Tianshui Road,Lanzhou,Gansu 730000,China. | 2009 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2009,1,4: | 3 |
| 6 | Response to an Escherichia coli K88 oral challenge and productivity of weanling pigs receiving a dietary nucleotides supplement显示文摘Background:Dietary nucleotides,considered as antibiotics alternative,were shown to have positive effects on intestinal hyperaemia,systemic immunity,small-intestinal growth,and hepatic composition in pigs.However,there is no previous research on nucleotide supplementation in weanling pigs under an oral challenged E.coli K88.Therefore,2 experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of dietary nucleotides on weanling pig growth performance,nutrient digestibility,fecal score,and blood profile after being orally challenged with E.coli K88.Methods:In Exp.1,a total of 140 weanling pigs[8.33 ± 0.33 kg of body weight(BW),28-d old]were used in this42-d feeding trial.Pigs were distributed into 1 of 4 treatments,5 pigs/pen(3 barrows and 2 gilts) and 7 pens/treatment.Treatments were a control basal diet(CON) or the CON supplemented with 150(R150),220(R220),or 275(R275) mg/kg to give the three treatment diets.In Exp.2,28 weanling pigs(BW = 8.40 ± 0.22 kg,28-d old) were distributed into 1 of 4treatments to give 1 pig/pen and 7 pens/treatment in a 42-d feeding and challenge trial.Dietary treatments were the same as in Exp.1.On d 14,all those pigs(BW= 13.3 ±0.15 kg,42-d old) were orally dosed with 1.5 mL suspension containing 10^(10) cfu/mL of E.coli K88.Twenty four hours after challenge,blood and excreta samples were collected from each pigs for analysis.Fecal scores were measured on d 7,14,21,and 28 of the study.Results:In Exp.1,overall BW,average daily gain(ADG),gain/feed(G/F) ratio,and nutrient digestibilities were lower(P < 0.05) in CON group compared with the nucleotides fed pigs.In Exp.2,after challenge,IgA,IgM,and IGF-I were higher(P< 0.05) in the nucleotide groups compared with CON.However,the nucleotide groups had lower(P< 0.05) Cortisol and TNF-α compared with CON.Fecal E.coli counts and fecal score for the nucleotide groups were lower(P < 0.05) than for CON.Conclusions:In conclusion,dietary nucleotides supplementation could improve growth performance,nutrient digestibility,immune status,microbial balance,reduce diarrhea,and provide protection against enterotoxigenic E.coli K88 infection in weanling pigs. | Hanlin Li Pinyao Zhao Yan Lei Tianshui Li InHo Kim | 2016 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2016,7,1: | 3 |
| 7 | Valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services and Benefit Sharing:A Case Study of Qingdao City, China显示文摘The forest ecosystem goods and services and the natural capital stocks that produce them make great contribution to national economy and human welfare both directly and indirectly. This paper evaluates the economic value of natural capital stock and the annual output flow of forest ecosystem goods and services taking Qingdao City and its eight districts as case study. The results of the valuation study showed, that the stock value of forest natural capital of Qingdao was RMB 13.46 billion at the end of 2007. The flow value of annual output of forest ecosystem goods and services of Qingdao was RMB 26.76 billion which amounted to 7.07% of its GDP of 2007. However, the share of forest goods and services actually included in its GDP of 2007, in accordance with the current national accounting system, was only 0.71%. Among the annual flows the value of intangible forest ecosystem services alone accounted for 70.90% of total flows which was 2.44 times the value of forest material goods. These non- market forest benefits mainly contributed to the non-forestry sectors of the economy and to the social groups who did not own and manage the forests. | 9 | Reliability of Relative Paleointensity Recorded in Chinese Loess-Paleosol Sediments显示文摘A detailed paleomagnetic and rock-magnetic investigation spanning loess L7 to paleosol S8 has been carried out at the Baoji and Xifeng sections. Results of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility confirm that the studied loess-paleosol sediments retain primary sedimentary fabrics. Stepwise thermal demagnetization shows that two well-defined magnetization components can be isolated from both loess and paleosol specimens. A low-temperature component, isolated between 100°C and 200°C, is consistent with the present geomagnetic field direction, and a high-temperature component, isolated between 200-300°C and 620-680°C, includes clearly normal and reversed polarities. Isothermal remanent magnetization and thermomagnetic analyses indicate that characteristic remanent magnetization is mainly carried by magnetite and hematite. The Day plot, together with the stratigraphic variations of rock-magnetic parameters, shows that the uniformity of magnetic mineralogy and grain size fulfills the criteria for relative paleointensity (RPI) studies. RPI records have been constructed using natural remanent magnetization (NRM) intensity after thermal demagnetization at 300°C normalized by low-frequency magnetic susceptibility (NRM 300 /χ). The results show that the RPI record from the Baoji section, where pedogenesis is quite weak, is compatible with the stacked PISO-1500 paleointensity record, suggesting that it might reflect the paleointensity variation of the geomagnetic field. The RPI record from the Xifeng section, where pedogenesis is rather strong, indicates a clear dissimilarity with the stacked PISO-1500 paleointensity record, implying that it does not reflect the paleointensity variation of the geomagnetic field. | 15 | Research on the effect of the component proportion in the new water mist additive on firefighting performance显示文摘Water mist technology provides efficient firefighting performance while there is still room for improvement. So varieties of additives have been studied in recent years both at home and abroad. The self-made additives are used to compare the firefighting performance of diesel and heptane fire in open space. By adjusting the concentration of substance in the additives and conducting the experiment under the pressure of 0.3 MPa,0.5 MPa and 0.7 MPa,extinguish time and temperature are measured in the experiment. Through the experiments using different fuels,it can be found when the fuel is heptane that has a lower ignition point and a higher evaporation rate, the water mist additive can still significantly improve the firefighting performance. According to the data based on different concentrations of fluorinated surfactants,we find that fluorinated surfactants are the main substance to improve the performances by changing physical property of water mist.
