1Using lightning locating system based on time-of-arrival technique to study three-dimensional lightning discharge processes显示文摘A time-of-arrival(TOA) system based on GPS technology for locating VHF radiation sources from lightning has been developed and used in observation sites in the northern Shandong Province,China.The 3D images of the lightning progression have been obtained successfully for the first time in China.The 3D-channel evolutions of typical negative CG,positive CG and IC lightning flashes have been discussed together with the data of fast electric field change.It was found that significant differences existed between the negative and positive CG lightning flashes in terms of the initiation and propagation of the radiation sources.The preliminary breakdown of a negative CG lightning flash propagated at a speed about 5.2×104 m/s.The stepped leader of negative CG lightning flashes was trigged by negative initial breakdown.Thereafter,it propagated downward at a speed of 1.3×105 m/s.The initial process of the positive CG lightning flashes was also a propagation process of negative streamer.These streamers propagated dominantly horizontally in the positive charge region and accumulated positive charges at the origin of the lightning,and as a consequence,initiated downward positive streamers.A new type of lightning discharge that was triggered by a narrow bipolar pulse(NBP) is discussed in this study.The NBP was originated at altitude of about 10.5 km in the upper positive charge region.As a distinct difference from normal IC flash,its channels extended horizontally all around and produced a lot of radiation sources.The source power of the NBP could approach 16.7 kW,which is much greater than that of normal lightning discharge ranging between 100 mW and 500 W.The 3D propagation of this new type of lightning discharge was observed and obtained for the first time in China.The possible initiation mechanism of this new type of light-ning is discussed here.ZHANG GuangShu1,WANG YanHui1,QIE XiuShu2,ZHANG Tong1,ZHAO YuXiang1,3,LI YaJun1 & CAO DongJie11 Laboratory for Climate Environment and Disasters of Western China,Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Lanzhou 730000,China 2 Laboratory for Middle Atmosphere and Global Environment Observation(LAGEO),Institute of Atmospheric Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100029,China 3 Department of Physics,Tianshui Normal College,Tianshui 741001,China 2010Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,4:21

3Template synthesis of N——F-codoped TiO_2 nanotubes with high visible light activity显示文摘A series of highly ordered N-F-codoped TiO2 nanotubes were synthesized with a simple template technique and the obtained samples were detected by FE-SEM and XPS. The UV-Vis absorption spectrum showed that after N-F-codoping,TiO2 nanotubes had a new absorption band at 425 nm,leading to a photoresponse in the visible region. 4Response to an Escherichia coli K88 oral challenge and productivity of weanling pigs receiving a dietary nucleotides supplement显示文摘Background:Dietary nucleotides,considered as antibiotics alternative,were shown to have positive effects on intestinal hyperaemia,systemic immunity,small-intestinal growth,and hepatic composition in pigs.However,there is no previous research on nucleotide supplementation in weanling pigs under an oral challenged E.coli K88.Therefore,2 experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of dietary nucleotides on weanling pig growth performance,nutrient digestibility,fecal score,and blood profile after being orally challenged with E.coli K88.Methods:In Exp.1,a total of 140 weanling pigs[8.33 ± 0.33 kg of body weight(BW),28-d old]were used in this42-d feeding trial.Pigs were distributed into 1 of 4 treatments,5 pigs/pen(3 barrows and 2 gilts) and 7 pens/treatment.Treatments were a control basal diet(CON) or the CON supplemented with 150(R150),220(R220),or 275(R275) mg/kg to give the three treatment diets.In Exp.2,28 weanling pigs(BW = 8.40 ± 0.22 kg,28-d old) were distributed into 1 of 4treatments to give 1 pig/pen and 7 pens/treatment in a 42-d feeding and challenge trial.Dietary treatments were the same as in Exp.1.On d 14,all those pigs(BW= 13.3 ±0.15 kg,42-d old) were orally dosed with 1.5 mL suspension containing 10^(10) cfu/mL of E.coli K88.Twenty four hours after challenge,blood and excreta samples were collected from each pigs for analysis.Fecal scores were measured on d 7,14,21,and 28 of the study.Results:In Exp.1,overall BW,average daily gain(ADG),gain/feed(G/F) ratio,and nutrient digestibilities were lower(P < 0.05) in CON group compared with the nucleotides fed pigs.In Exp.2,after challenge,IgA,IgM,and IGF-I were higher(P< 0.05) in the nucleotide groups compared with CON.However,the nucleotide groups had lower(P< 0.05) Cortisol and TNF-α compared with CON.Fecal E.coli counts and fecal score for the nucleotide groups were lower(P < 0.05) than for CON.Conclusions:In conclusion,dietary nucleotides supplementation could improve growth performance,nutrient digestibility,immune status,microbial balance,reduce diarrhea,and provide protection against enterotoxigenic E.coli K88 infection in weanling pigs.Hanlin Li Pinyao Zhao Yan Lei Tianshui Li InHo Kim 2016Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2016,7,1:3
5Reliability of Relative Paleointensity Recorded in Chinese Loess-Paleosol Sediments显示文摘A detailed paleomagnetic and rock-magnetic investigation spanning loess L7 to paleosol S8 has been carried out at the Baoji and Xifeng sections. Results of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility confirm that the studied loess-paleosol sediments retain primary sedimentary fabrics. Stepwise thermal demagnetization shows that two well-defined magnetization components can be isolated from both loess and paleosol specimens. A low-temperature component, isolated between 100°C and 200°C, is consistent with the present geomagnetic field direction, and a high-temperature component, isolated between 200-300°C and 620-680°C, includes clearly normal and reversed polarities. Isothermal remanent magnetization and thermomagnetic analyses indicate that characteristic remanent magnetization is mainly carried by magnetite and hematite. The Day plot, together with the stratigraphic variations of rock-magnetic parameters, shows that the uniformity of magnetic mineralogy and grain size fulfills the criteria for relative paleointensity (RPI) studies. RPI records have been constructed using natural remanent magnetization (NRM) intensity after thermal demagnetization at 300°C normalized by low-frequency magnetic susceptibility (NRM 300 /χ). The results show that the RPI record from the Baoji section, where pedogenesis is quite weak, is compatible with the stacked PISO-1500 paleointensity record, suggesting that it might reflect the paleointensity variation of the geomagnetic field. The RPI record from the Xifeng section, where pedogenesis is rather strong, indicates a clear dissimilarity with the stacked PISO-1500 paleointensity record, implying that it does not reflect the paleointensity variation of the geomagnetic field. 12Quantitative Analysis of Kruppel‑Like Factor 5‑Related Messenger RNA Transcripts in Ischemic Myocardium for Discrimination of Death Causes显示文摘Background:Accumulated studies have demonstrated that Kruppel‑like factor 5(KLF5),a transcription factor,plays an important role in regulating cell proliferation and tissue remodeling through the expression of its downstream genes.KLF5‑related factors are expected to be involved in the healing process after myocardial injury or myocardial ischemic changes,especially for the forensic diagnosis of myocardial ischemic physiopathology.Aim and Objectives:This study aimed to explore the discrimination ability and applicability of KLF5-related factors in SCD caused by MI compared with other causes of death to provide further insights into the forensic diagnosis of myocardial ischemic pathology.Materials and Methods:The relative quantification of F‑Box and WD Repeat Domain Containing 7(FBW7),KLF5,factor‑binding protein(FGFBP)1,and FGFBP2 messenger RNAs(mRNAs)in myocardial tissue samples was performed using real‑time fluorescence quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.KLF5 and FGFBP1/2 protein levels were examined using immunohistochemistry(IHC).The forensic autopsy cases(27 in total,autopsy within 72 h postmortem)included seven cases of acute myocardial infarction and 10 cases of acute myocardial ischemia.There were 10 cases in the control group,including four cases of traffic injury one case of injury by fall from height,one case of electric death,and four cases of blunt force injury.Results:Characteristic results were found in myocardial samples from three groups of deaths:KLF5 and FGFBP1 mRNA levels were significantly elevated in the infarction and ischemia groups,while FBW7 mRNA levels were significantly decreased.FBW7 is an important ubiquitin ligase that can mediate the degradation of KLF5 protein.In addition,FBW7 and FGFBP2 mRNA levels were decreased in the infarction group compared with the ischemia group.The IHC results were consistent with the observed mRNA expression patterns.Conclusions:Quantitative detection of FBW7,KLF5,FGFBP1,and FGFBP2 mRNA transcripts in myocardial tissues supports the pathophysiological study of myocardial ischemic diseases and provides molecular pathological evidence for forensic discrimination of death causes.Xingyu Ma Yeming Li Ya Xi Liyang Su Yuxing Tong Chun Wang Tianshui Yu Dong Zhao 2022Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2022,8,4:0

14Sudden cardiac death of Duchenne muscular dystrophy with NT-proBNP in pericardial fluid as a useful biomarker for diagnosis of the cause of death: a case report显示文摘Duchenne muscular dystrophy(DMD)is one of the most common and severest muscular dystrophies.Although it can be a cause of death when associated with cardiac muscle and/or respiratory muscles,no cases of sudden deaths in the setting of undiagnosed DMD with cardiac involvement have been reported in the literatures.Previous studies showed that N-terminal-proBNP(NT-proBNP)was a robust laboratory biomarker to diagnose and monitor cardiac failure in clinical situations,suggesting that it may be used as an auxiliary indicator for diagnosis on left ventricular dysfunction in sudden cardiac deaths in forensic settings.Here,we reported a case of 29-year-old man who died suddenly.Autopsy revealed that muscles of the body were almost replaced by fatty and fibrotic tissues.The heart was enlarged with disarray and degeneration of cardiomyocytes in cardiac muscle.Total absence of dystrophin was detected by immunohistochemical staining,which confirmed DMD.Postmortem biochemical test of pericardial fluid revealed a high level of NT-proBNP,indicating dysfunction of the left ventricle before death.The cause of death was certified as an early dilated cardiomyopathy(DCM)/dysfunction of the left ventricle secondary to DMD,suggesting that sudden cardiac death with cardiac dysfunction could be identified by immunohistochemical method in combination with pericardial fluid NT-proBNP determination after systemic autopsy.Mengzhou Zhang Rui Zhao Tianshui Yu Jiaoyong Li Miao Zhang Shukun Jiang Linlin Wang Guohua Zhang Rubo Li Baoli Zhu Dawei Guan 2020Forensic Sciences Research2020,5,2:0
15High-frequency polarity swings during the Gauss-Matuyama reversal from Baoji loess sediment显示文摘Paleomagnetic records of the Gauss-Matuyama reversal were obtained from two loess sections at Baoji on the Chinese Loes Plateau. Stepwise thermal demagnetization shows two obvious magnetization components. A low-temperature component iso lated between 100 and 200–250℃ is close to the present geomagnetic field direction, and a high-temperature component iso lated above 200–250℃ reveals clearly normal, reversed, and transitional polarities. Magnetostratigraphic results of both sec tions indicated that the Gauss-Matuyama reversal consists of a high-frequency polarity fluctuation zone, but the characteristic remanent magnetization directions during the reversal are clearly inconsistent. Rock magnetic experiments demonstrated tha for all the specimens with normal, reversed, and transitional polarities magnetite and hematite are the main magnetic carriers Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility indicates that the studied loess sediments have a primary sedimentary fabric. Based on virtual geomagnetic pole latitudes, the Gauss-Matuyama reversal records in the two sections are accompanied by 14 short-lived geomagnetic episodes(15 rapid polarity swings) and 12 short-lived geomagnetic episodes(13 rapid polarity swings), respec tively. Our new records, together with previous ones from lacustrine, marine, and aeolian deposits, suggest that high-frequency polarity swings coexist with the Gauss-Matuyama reversal, and that the Gauss-Matuyama reversal may have taken more than11 kyr to complete.
