Achieving strength-ductility synergy in cold spray additively manufactured Al/B4C composites through a hybrid post-deposition treatment显示文摘Cold spray additive manufacturing(CSAM) provides a potential solid state manufacturing route to fabricate variety of aluminum matrix composites(AMCs) with reduced possibility of undesired chemical reactions and residual thermal stresses. This study presents a hybrid(i.e. hot compression + hot rolling)post-deposition treatment to reinvigorate the mechanical properties of cold spray additively manufactured Al/B4 C composites. The as-deposited samples were initially subjected to 30% thickness reduction via hot compression treatment at 500°C followed by a hot rolling treatment with 40% thickness reduction in 2 passes. Electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) results revealed that after hybrid post-deposition treatment(involving 70%accumulative thickness reduction), the aluminum grains in the matrix were extensively refined due to simultaneous operation of continuous dynamic recrystallization(CDRX) and geometric dynamic recrystallization(GDRX). Furthermore, interfacial defects were remarkably reduced while the nature of Al/Al and Al/B4C interfacial bonding was changed from sheer mechanical interlocking to metallurgical bonding which facilitated efficient transference of applied load to uniformly dispersed bimodal B4C particles. As a result, ultimate tensile strength(UTS) and elongation(EL) of the as-deposited sample were simultaneously improved from 37 to 185 MPa and 0.3% to 6.2%, respectively.Naeem ul Haq Tariq Lawrence Gyansah Xiang Qiu Chunnijia Hasan Bin Awais Chengwu Zheng Hao Du Jiqiang Wang Tianying Xiong 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,6:7

Liver hemangioma and vascular liver diseases in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with benign focal liver lesions and vascular liver diseases, since these have been occasionally reported in SLE patients. METHODS:Thirty-five consecutive adult patients with SLE and 35 age-and sex-matched healthy controls were evaluated. Hepatic and portal vein patency and presence of focal liver lesions were studied by colour-Doppler ultrasound, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance were used to refine the diagnosis, clinical data of SLE patients were reviewed. RESULTS:Benign hepatic lesions were common in SLE patients (54% vs 14% controls, P < 0.0001), withhemangioma being the most commonly observed lesion in the two groups. SLE was associated with the presence of single hemangioma [odds ratios (OR) 5.05; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.91-13.38] and multiple hemangiomas (OR 4.13; 95% CI 1.03-16.55). Multiple hemangiomas were associated with a longer duration of SLE (9.9 ± 6.5 vs 5.5 ± 6.4 years; P = 0.04). Imaging prior to SLE onset was available in 9 patients with SLE and hemangioma, showing absence of lesions in 7/9. The clinical data of our patients suggest that SLE pos- sibly plays a role in the development of hemangioma. In addition, a Budd-Chiari syndrome associated with nodular regenerative hyperplasia (NRH), and a NRH associated with hepatic hemangioma were observed, both in patients hospitalized for abdominal symptoms, suggesting that vascular liver diseases should be specifically investigated in this population. CONCLUSION:SLE is associated with 5-fold increased odds of liver hemangiomas, suggesting that these might be considered among the hepatic manifestations of SLE.Annalisa Berzigotti Marilena Frigato Elena Manfredini Lucia Pierpaoli Rita Mulè Carolina Tiani Paola Zappoli Donatella Magalotti Nazzarena Malavolta Marco Zoli 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,40:5

Curcumin inhibits the replication of enterovirus 71 in vitro显示文摘Human enterovirus 71(EV71)is the main causative pathogen of hand, foot, and mouth disease(HFMD)in children. The epidemic of HFMD has been a public health problem in Asia-Pacific region for decades, and no vaccine and effective antiviral medicine are available.Curcumin has been used as a traditional medicine for centuries to treat a diversity of disorders including viral infections. In this study,we demonstrated that curcumin showed potent antiviral effect again EV71.In Vero cells infected with EV71,the addition of curcumin significantly suppressed the synthesis of viral RNA,the expression of viral protein, and the overall production of viral progeny.Similar with the previous reports, curcumin reduced the production of ROS induced by viral infection. However, the antioxidant property of curcumin did not contribute to its antiviral activity, since N-acetyl-L-cysteine,the potent antioxidant failed to suppress viral replication. This study also showed that extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)was activated by either viral infection or curcumin treatment, but the activated ERK did not interfere with the antiviral effect of curcumin, indicating ERK is not involved in the antiviral mechanism of curcumin.Unlike the previous reports that curcumin inhibited protein degradation through ubiquitin–proteasome system(UPS),we found that curcumin had no impact on UPS in control cells. However, curcumin did reduce the activity of proteasomes which was increased by viral infection. In addition, the accumulation of the short-lived proteins,p53 and p21,was increased by the treatment of curcumin in EV71-infected cells. We further probed the antiviral mechanism of curcumin by examining the expression of GBF1 and PI4KB,both of which are required for the formation of viral replication complex. We found that curcumin significantly reduced the level of both proteins. Moreover, the decreased expression of either GBF1 or PI4KB by the application of siRNAs was sufficient to suppress viral replication. We also demonstrated that curcumin showed anti-apoptotic activity at the early stage of viral infection. The results of this study provide solid evidence that curcumin has potent anti-EV71 activity.Whether or not the down-regulated GBF1 and PI4KB by curcumin contribute to its antiviral effect needs further studies.Ying Qin Lexun Lin Yang Chen Shuo Wu Xiaoning Si Heng Wu Xia Zhai Yan Wang Lei Tong Bo Pan Xiaoyan Zhong Tianying Wang Wenran Zhao Zhaohua Zhong 2014Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2014,4,4:5
Backward Propagation of Otoacoustic Emissions显示文摘Normal mammalian ears not only detect but also generate sounds. The ear-generated sounds, i.e., otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), can be measured in the external ear canal using a tiny sensitive microphone. In spite of wide applications of OAEs in diagnosis of hearing disorders and in studies of cochlear functions, the question of how the cochlea emits sounds remains unclear. The current dominating theory is that the OAE reaches the cochlear base through a backward traveling wave. However, recently published works, including experimental data on the spatial pattern of basilar membrane vibrations at the emission frequency, demonstrated only forward traveling waves and no signs of backward traveling waves. These new findings indicate that the cochlea emits sounds through cochlear fluids as compression waves rather than through the basilar membrane as backward traveling waves. This article reviews different mechanisms of the backward propagation of OAEs and summarizes recent experimental results.HE Wenxuan,1, 2 REN Tianying,1, 21. 8Room temperature liquid metal:its melting point, dominating mechanism and applications显示文摘The room temperature liquid metal(LM)is recently emerging as a new class of versatile materials with fascinating characteristics mostly originated from its simultaneous metallic and liquid natures. The melting point is a typical parameter to describe the peculiarity of LM,and a pivotal factor to consider concerning its practical applications such as phase change materials(PCMs)and advanced thermal management. Therefore, the theoretical exploration into the melting point of LM is an essential issue, which can be of special value for the design of new LM materials with desired properties. So far, some available strategies such as molecular dynamics(MD)simulation and classical thermodynamic theory have been applied to perform correlative analysis. This paper is primarily dedicated to performing a comprehensive overview regarding typical theoretical strategies on analyzing the melting points. It,then, presents evaluations on several factors like components, pressure, size and supercooling that may be critical for melting processes of liquid metal. After that,it discusses applications associated with the characteristic of low melting points of LM.It is expected that a great many fundamental and practical works are to be conducted in the coming future.Junheng FU Chenglin ZHANG Tianying LIU Jing LIU 2020Frontiers in Energy2020,14,1:3
Heat Dissipation Performance of Porous Copper with Elongated Cylindrical Pores显示文摘The purpose of this paper is to investigate heat dissipation performance of porous copper with long cylindrical pores fabricated by a unidirectional solidification method.Three samples with porosity of 29.87%,34.47%and 50.98%were chosen and cut into size of 60 mm(length)26 mm(width)2 mm(thickness)along the vertical direction of pore axis.Their heat dissipation performance was evaluated by a nonsteady method in air and compared to those of not only bulk copper but also bored coppers with porosity of 30.61%and32.20%.It is found that the porous copper dissipated heat faster by a forced air convection than that by natural convection from 80 C to room temperature and both porosity and pore size play an important role in the performance for the porous copper.Furthermore, the heat dissipation rate is higher when the forced air was circulated along the specimens than that perpendicular to the specimens for the porous copper. It is revealed that porous copper with bigger porosity and a proper pore size possesses a higher heat dissipation rate.It is concluded that the porous copper with elongated cylindrical pores has larger heat dissipation performance than both the bulk copper and the bored copper, which is attributed to its higher specific surface area.Application of the porous copper for heat dissipation is promising.Hao Du Dongzhu Lu Jianzhong Qi Yanfang Shen Lisong Yin Yuan Wang Zhongguang Zheng Tianying Xiong 2014Journal of Materials Science & Technology2014,30,9:3
Co-culture of tumor spheroids and monocytes in a collagen matrix-embedded microfluidic device to study the migration of breast cancer cells显示文摘Recapitulating the tumor microenvironment is a major challenge in the development of in vitro tumor model for the study of cancer biology and therapeutic treatments. 3D multicellular tumor spheroids (MCTS) have been used as reliable models of mimicking in vivo solid tumors. Macrophages and extracellular matrix (ECM), regarded as two key factors of the tumor microenvironment, play significant roles in tumor progression and drug resistance. In order to investigate their effects on tumor cell migration, a microfluidic chip-based 3D breast cancer model was developed by co-culturing monodisperse MCTS with monocytes in 3 D collagen matrix. A reversible bonding technique was employed for the fabrication of the microfluidic chip, which made it easier for MCTS formation and tailoring the MCTS co-culture conditions. When co-culturing monocytes with low invasive T47D spheroids or high invasive MD-MBA-231 spheroids, we found that T47 D cells with the stimulation of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) and MD-MBA-231 cells could polarize monocytes into tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). The increased stiffness via increasing collagen concentration decreased tumor cell migration, whereas the presence of TAMs enhanced the migration ability of cells. Moreover, M-CSF-activated TAMs promoted the migration of T47 D tumor cells via the regulation of TGFβ1. Overall, this 3D co-culture microfluidic model may be useful for studying tumor progress and may offer a reliable and low-cost method for evaluation of drug efficiency.Tianying Yuan Dan Gao Shangfu Li Yuyang jiang 2019Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,2:3
Gender associates with both susceptibility to infection and pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 in Syrian hamster显示文摘Epidemiological studies of the COVID-19 patients have suggested the male bias in outcomes of lung illness. To experimentally demonstrate the epidemiological results,we performed animal studies to infect male and female Syrian hamsters with SARS-CoV-2.Remarkably,high viral titer in nasal washings was detectable in male hamsters who presented symptoms of weight loss, weakness, piloerection, hunched back and abdominal respiration,as well as severe pneumonia, pulmonary edema, consolidation, and fibrosis. In contrast with the males, the female hamsters showed much lower shedding viral titers, moderate symptoms, and relatively mild lung pathogenesis. The obvious differences in the susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 and severity of lung pathogenesis between male and female hamsters provided experimental evidence that SARS-CoV-2 infection and the severity of COVID-19 are associated with gender.Lunzhi Yuan Huachen Zhu Ming Zhou Jian Ma Rirong Chen Yao Chen Liqiang Chen Kun Wu Minping Cai Junping Hong Lifeng Li Che Liu Huan Yu Yali Zhang Jia Wang Tianying Zhang Shengxiang Ge Jun Zhang Quan Yuan Yixin Chen Qiyi Tang Honglin Chen Tong Cheng Yi Guan Ningshao Xia 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,4:3
Development of Cu foam-based Ni catalyst for solar thermal reforming of methane with carbon dioxide显示文摘Using solar energy to produce syngas via the endothermic reforming of methane has been extensively investigated at the laboratory- and pilot plant-scales as a promising method of storing solar energy. One of the challenges to scaling up this process in a tubular reformer is to improve the reactor's performance, which is limited by mass and heat transfer issues. High thermal conductivity Cu foam was therefore used as a substrate to improve the catalyst's thermal conductivity during solar reforming. We also developed a method to coat the foam with the catalytically active component NiMg_3AlO_x. The Cu foam-based NiMg_3AlO_x performs better than catalysts supported on SiSiC foam, which is currently used as a substrate for solar-reforming catalysts, at high gas hourly space velocity(≥400,000 mL/(g·h)) or at low reaction temperatures(≤ 720 °C). The presence of a γ-Al_2O_3 intermediate layer improves the adhesion between the catalyst and substrate as well as the catalytic activity.Jianzhong Qi Yanping Sun Zongli Xie Mike Collins Hao Du Tianying Xiong 2015Journal of Energy Chemistry2015,24,6:3
Microstructure and bioactivity of a cold sprayed rough/porous Ta coating on Ti6Al4V substrate显示文摘To improve the bioactivity and biocompatibility of titanium implants,a rough/porous tantalum(Ta)coating was firstly prepared on Ti6Al4V substrate by cold spraying. The results indicated that the surface of Ta coating is extremely rough with lots of visible holes, because of poor deposition quality.Microstructure and microhardness results showed that different layers appeared in the inner and outer parts of coatings, corresponding to porosity, due to lack of subsequent compaction. The simulated body fluid(SBF)soaking test showed that spherical apatite sediments were mineralized on rough/porous surface in SBF after 2–4 weeks, which demonstrated that the cold sprayed Ta coating had good bioactivity. This was mainly attributed to the rough/porous surface of Ta coating obtained by cold spraying, which is conducive to the heterogeneous nucleation of apatite on it.TANG JunRong ZHAO ZhiPo CUI XinYu WANG JiQiang XIONG TianYing 2020Science China(Technological Sciences)2020,63,5:3

Stress Granule Formation is One of the Early Antiviral Mechanisms for Host Cells Against Coxsackievirus B Infection显示文摘Stress granules(SGs) are intracellular granules formed when cellular translation is blocked and have been reported to be involved in a variety of viral infections. Our previous studies revealed that SGs are involved in the coxsackievirus B(CVB)infection process, but the role of SGs in CVB infection has not been fully explored. In this study, we found that CVB type 3(CVB3) could induce SG formation in the early phase of infection. Results showed that levels of CVB3 RNA and protein were significantly inhibited during the early stage of CVB3 infection by the elevated formation of SGs, while viral RNA and protein synthesis were significantly promoted when SG formation was blocked. Our findings suggest that SG formation is one of the early antiviral mechanisms for host cells against CVB infection.Xia Zhai Shuo Wu Lexun Lin Tianying Wang Xiaoyan Zhong Yang Chen Weizhen Xu Lei Tong Yan Wang Wenran Zhao Zhaohua Zhong 2018Virologica Sinica2018,33,4:2
Preparation and Characterization of Co_(3)O_(4)/Graphene/Cellulose Nanofiber Composite Films显示文摘Nanocellulose has served as an eye-catching nanomaterial for constructing advanced functional devices with renewability, light weight, flexibility, and environmental friendliness. In this study,Co_(3)O_(4)/graphene/cellulose nanofiber(CNF)flexible composite films,in which the CNF acted as a spacer for the graphene, were prepared via a facile and scalable vacuum filtration method. The effects of the CNF on the microstructure, hydrophilicity, thermal stability, tensile strength, surface resistance, and electrochemical performance of the Co_(3)O_(4)/graphene/CNF composite films were systematically investigated. The results showed that the synergistic interaction of the CNF and graphene substantially improved the overall properties of the Co_(3)O_(4)/graphene/CNF composite films, particularly their hydrophilicity and tensile strength.Meanwhile,Co_(3)O_(4)/graphene/CNF composite films with a CNF content of 4%appeared to have the optimal electrochemical performance, with an area specific capacitance of 56 mF/cm^(2) and prominent capacitance retention of 95.6%at a current density of 1 A/g after 1000 cycles. This work demonstrated that the prepared Co_(3)O_(4)/graphene/CNF flexible composite films have great application potential in the field of flexible energy storage devices.Zejun Ding Tianying Chen Yiming Zhou Peng Zhu Feiyun Li Yanjun Tang 2022Paper And Biomaterials2022,7,2:2
