| 2 | Characteristic pattern of human prostatic growth with age显示文摘Aim:To study the characteristic pattern of the age-related growth of the human prostate gland.Methods:The volume (weight) of the prostate in 1,601 males,aged from newborn to 92 years,was determined by Bultrasonography.Results:Prostatic volume determination by B-ultrasonography in 1601 males (1301 normal subjects and 300 BPH patients) pointed out that the age-stratified growth of human prostate could be categorized into 4 life stages:(1) the first slow growing phase(from newborn to 9 years):the prostate grows slowly at a rate of 0.14g per year;(2)the first rapid growing phase (from 10 to 30 years):the prostate grows at a rate of 0.84g per year;(3)the second slow growing phase (from 30 to 50 years),the prostate grows at a rate of 0.21g per year;(4)the second rapid growing phase (from 50 to 90 years):the prostate grows at one of the following rates:in one group the growth rate is of 0.50g per year and in the other 1.20g per year,leading to benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Conclusion:The volumes of the prostate are different in different age groups and it grows with age at different rates in four life phases.The prostate growth in phases can be expressed by the following equation:Y=19.36+1.36X'-0.58X'^2+0.33X'^3,where Y=prostate volume,X=age(up to 70 years),X'=(X-35.5)/10. | Shu-Jie XIA Xiao-Xin XU Jian-Bao TENG Chun-Xiao XU Xiao-Da TANG | 2002 | Asian Journal of Andrology2002,4,4: | 30 |

| 7 | Design and application of structural health monitoring system in long-span cable-membrane structure显示文摘Cable-membrane structures have small rigidity and are highly sensitive to wind. Structural health monitoring is necessary to ensure the serviceability and safety of the structure. In this research, the design method of a structural health monitoring system is using the characteristics of a cable-membrane structure. Taking the Yueyang Sanhe Airport Terminal as an example, a finite element model is established to determine the critical structural components. Next, the engineering requirements and the framework of the monitoring system are studied based on the results of numerical analysis. The specific implementation of the structural health monitoring is then carried out, which includes sensor selection, installation and wiring. The proposed framework is successfully applied to the monitoring system for the Yueyang Airport terminal building, and the synchronous acquisition of fiber Bragg grating and acceleration sensor signals is implemented in an innovative way. | 8 | Invasive versus conservative strategy in consecutive patients aged 80 years or older with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: a retrospective study in China显示文摘Objective To investigate whether the very elderly patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) will benefit from an invasive strategy versus a conservative strategy. Methods 190 consecutive patients aged 80 years or older with NSTEMI were included in the retrospective study from September 2014 to August 2017, of which 69 patients received conservative strategy and 121 patients received invasive strategy. The primary outcome was death. Multivariate Cox regression models were used to assess the statistical association between strategies and mortality. The survival probability was further analyzed. Results The primary outcome occurred in 17.4% patients in the invasive group and in 42.0% patients in the conservative group (P = 0.0002). The readmission rate in the invasive group (14.9%) was higher than that in the conservative group (7.2%). Creatinine level (OR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.10–1.03, P = 0.05) and use of diuretic (OR = 3.65, 95% CI: 1.56–8.53, P = 0.003) were independent influential factors for invasive strategy. HRs for multivariate Cox regression models were 3.45 (95% CI: 1.77–6.75, P = 0.0003), 3.02 (95% CI: 1.52–6.01, P = 0.0017), 2.93 (95% CI: 1. 46–5.86, P = 0.0024) and 2.47 (95% CI: 1.20–5.07, P = 0.0137). Compared with the patients received invasive strategy, the conservative group had remarkably reduced survival probability with time since treatment (P < 0.001). Conclusions An invasive strategy is superior to a conservative strategy in reducing mortality of patients aged 80 years or older with NSTEMI. | 9 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. | 11 | Link between colorectal cancer and polymorphisms in the uridine-diphosphoglucuronosyltransferase 1A7and 1A1 genes显示文摘AIM: To investigate the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms in the uridine-diphosphoglucuronosyltransferase (UGT) UGT1A7 and UGT1A1 genes and patients suffering from colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS: A case-control study was designed in order to investigate the genotypes of the UG71A7 and UGT1A1 genes, which were identified by the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method, for 268 CRC patients and 441 healthy controls. RESULTS: The results of simple logistical regressions revealed odds ratios (ORs) of 1.97 (P<0.001), 1.91 (P<0.001), and 2.03 (P<0.00L) for patients who carried the UGT1A7*1/*3 genotype, UGT1A7*3 allele, andvariant-211 UGT1A1 allele. The interaction of UGT1A7*3allele and variant-211 LGT1A1 allele produced an additiveeffect on the risk for the development of CRC [observed OR (2.34) greater than expected OR (1.59)]. For the 268patients, the results of simple logistical regressions indicated that the OR of developing metastases was 4.90 (P<0.001) and 4.89 (P<0.001) for the individuals possessing UGT1A7*3 allele and variant-211 UGT1A1 allele, respectively. The results of multivariate logistical regressions confirmed these findings (OR = 2.51, P= 0.01;and OR = 2.71, P = 0.01, respectively). | 14 | Detection of quantitative trait loci and heterotic loci for plant height using an immortalized F_2 population in maize显示文摘A set of recombinant inbred lines (RIL) derived from Yuyu22, an elite hybrid widespread in China, was used to construct an immortalized F2 (IF2) population comprising 441 different crosses. Genetic linkage maps were constructed containing 10 linkages groups with 263 simple sequence repeat (SSR) molecular markers. Twelve and ten quantitative trait loci (QTL) were detected for plant height in the IF2 and RIL populations respectively, using the composite interval mapping method, and six same QTL were identified in the two populations. In addition, ten unique heterotic loci (HL) located on seven different chromosomes were revealed for plant height using the mid-parent heterosis as the input data. These HL explained 1.26%―8.41% of the genotypic variance in plant height heterosis and most expressed overdominant effects. | 15 | Identification of hydrodynamic coefficients from experiment of vortex-induced vibration of slender riser model显示文摘One of the challenges in predicting the dynamic response of deepwater risers under vortex-induced vibration (VIV) is that it runs short of believable fluid loading model. Moreover, the hydrodynamic loading is also difficult to be measured directly in the VIV experiments without disturbing the fluid field. In the present work, by means of a finite element analysis method based on the experimental data of the response displacements, the total instantaneous distributions of hydrodynamic forces together with the hydrodynamic coefficients on the riser model with large aspect ratio (length/diameter) of 1750 are achieved. The steady current speeds considered in the experiments of this work are ranging from 0.15 m/s to 0.60 m/s, giving the Reynolds Number between 2400 and 9600. The hydrodynamic coefficients are evaluated at the fundamental frequency and in the higher order frequency components for both in-line and cross-flow directions. It is found that the Root-Mean Squared hydrodynamic forces of the higher order response frequency are larger than those of the fundamental response frequency. | 16 | A β-glucosidase-producing M-2 strain: Isolation from cow dung and fermentation parameter optimization for flaxseed cake显示文摘Flaxseed cake contains cyanogenic glucosides, which can be metabolized into hydrocyanic acid in an animal's body, leading to asphyxia poisoning in cells. Beta-glucosidase is highly efficient in degrading cyanogenic glucosides. The Cattle may have b-glucosidase-producing strains in the intestinal tract after eating small amounts of flaxseed cake for a long time. This study aimed to isolate of a strain from cow dung that produces b-glucosidase with high activity and can significantly reduce the amount of cyanogenic glucosides. We used cow dung as the microflora source and an esculin agar as the selective medium. After screening with 0.05% esculin and 0.01% ferric citrate, we isolated 5 strains producing high amounts of b-glucosidase. In vitro flaxseed cake fermentation was fermented by these 5 strains, in which the strain M-2 exerted the best effect(P < 0.05). The strain M-2 was identified as Lichtheimia ramosa and used as the fermentation strain to optimize the fermentation parameters by a single factor analysis and orthogonal experimental design. The optimum condition was as follows: inoculum size3%, water content 60%, time 144 h, and temperature 32℃. Under this condition, the removal rate of cyanogenic glucosides reached 89%, and crude protein increment reached 44%. The results showed that the friction coefficient and wear rate of composites initially descended with increasing the normal load and reached a minimum of 0.339 and 1.826 10 4mm3/(N m) at 10 N,respectively, then ascended. Similarly, the friction coefficient and wear rate of composites initially decreased with the increase in the sliding velocity and reached a minimum of 0.330 and 2.389 10 4mm3/(N m) at0.4 m/s and 0.3 m/s, respectively, then raised. The wear mechanism of composites was mainly adhesive wear accompanied by abrasive wear at lower normal load and sliding velocity. However, the wear mechanism of composites was abrasive wear and adhesive wear as well as delamination at higher normal load and sliding velocity due to the nucleation and propagation of surface and subsurface cracks during the wear process.
