1Topographic differentiations of biological soil crusts and hydraulic properties in fixed sand dunes, Tengger Desert显示文摘Biological soil crusts(BSCs) play an important role in surface soil hydrology. Soils dominated with moss BSCs may have higher infiltration rates than those dominated with cyanobacteria or algal BSCs. However, it is unnown whether improved infiltration in moss BSCs is accompanied by an increase in soil hydraulic conductivity or water retention capacity. We investigated this question in the Tengger Desert, where a 43-year-old revegetation program has promoted the formation of two distinct types of BSCs along topographic positions, i.e. the moss-dominated BSCs on the interdune land and windward slopes of the fixed sand dunes, and the algal-dominated BSCs on the crest and leeward slopes. Soil water retention capacity and hydraulic conductivity were measured using an indoor evaporation method and a field infiltration method. And the results were fitted to the van Genuchten–Mualem model. Unsaturated hydraulic conductivities under greater water pressure(<–0.01 MPa) and water retention capacities in the entire pressure head range were higher for both crust types than for bare sand. However, saturated and unsaturated hydraulic conductivities in the near-saturation range(>–0.01 MPa) showed decreasing trends from bare sand to moss crusts and to algal crusts. 2Simultaneous incorporation of PTH(1-34) and nano-hydroxyapatite into Chitosan/Alginate Hydrogels for efficient bone regeneration显示文摘Tissue regeneration based on the utilization of artificial soft materials is considered a promising treatment for bone-related diseases.Here,we report cranial bone regeneration promoted by hydrogels that contain parathyroid hormone(PTH)peptide PTH(1-34)and nano-hydroxyapatite(nHAP).A combination of the positively charged natural polymer chitosan(CS)and negatively charged sodium alginate led to the formation of hydrogels with porous structures,as shown by scanning electron microscopy.Rheological characterizations revealed that the mechanical properties of the hydrogels were almost maintained upon the addition of nHAP and PTH(1-34).In vitro experiments showed that the hydrogel containing nHAP and PTH(1-34)exhibited strong biocompatibility and facilitated osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(rBMSCs)via the Notch signaling pathway,as shown by the upregulated expression of osteogenic-related proteins.We found that increasing the content of PTH(1-34)in the hydrogels resulted in enhanced osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs.Implantation of the complex hydrogel into a rat cranial defect model led to efficient bone regeneration compared to the rats treated with the hydrogel alone or with nHAP,indicating the simultaneous therapeutic effect of nHAP and PTH during the treatment process.Both the in vitro and in vivo results demonstrated that simultaneously incorporating nHAP and PTH into hydrogels shows promise for bone regeneration,suggesting a new strategy for tissue engineering and regeneration in the future.Zhiyuan Zou Le Wang Zhifei Zhou Qing Sun Delong Liu Yan Chen Hao Hu Yu Cai Sixiong Lin Zhengran Yu Bizhi Tan Wei Guo Zemin Ling Xuenong Zou 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,6:7
3Experimental investigation of thermal effect on cavitation characteristics in a liquid rocket engine turbopump inducer显示文摘The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of water temperature on cavitation characteristics in a turbopump inducer,a series of experiments at different temperatures have been conducted in a newly developed visualization test facility.It is found that higher temperature shows little influence on the non-cavitation performance and breakdown characteristic in the investigated range.The relationship between cavitation development and pressure fluctuation has been discussed in detail.Higher temperature displays a remarkable stabilization effect on the cavitation excited pressure.In particular,the inception cavitation numbers of both the super-synchronous rotating cavitation and synchronous rotating cavitation are decreased at higher temperatures,and the corresponding frequencies are not affected,while the amplitudes are distinctly reduced,and the occurrence range of synchronous rotating cavitation is significantly narrowed.A generalized RayleighPlesset equation has been employed to account for the thermal effect on the bubble development,which may provide a deep insight in understanding the experimental results.Thermal effect is found to act as a remarkable dissipation mechanism to suppress the bubble growth,smooth the collapse.In particular,the excited pressure during collapse is smaller at higher temperatures,which may lead to the stabilization effect of high temperature in this study.Chunmin WANG Le XIANG Yonghua TAN Hui CHEN Kaifu XU 2021Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2021,34,8:7

5Experimental investigation of cavitation instabilities in inducer with different tip clearances显示文摘To investigate the effect of tip clearance size on cavitation characteristics in a turbopump inducer,a series of experiments have been conducted in a newly developed visualization test facility using room temperature water as working fluid.The pressure fluctuations near the tip region were collected,and the cavity structures under various conditions were documented by a high-speed camera.It is found that large tip clearance distinctly reduces both the non-cavitation and cavitation performance.Three cavitation instabilities,super-synchronous rotating cavitation,synchronous rotating cavitation and cavitation surge have been carefully identified through combination of cross-correlation analysis of pressure signals and visualization results.Large tip clearance displays a remarkable stabilization effect on pressure fluctuation,cavitation surge totally disappears,and the range of occurrence of synchronous rotating cavitation becomes smaller for the large tip clearance,whereas super-synchronous rotating cavitation only occurs in the large tip clearance.The cavitation areas are smaller at large tip clearance,while the flow channels are more seriously choked when cavitation occurs heavily in comparison with those at small tip clearance,which may be responsible for the worse cavitation performance.Le XIANG Yonghua TAN Hui CHEN Kaifu XU 2021Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2021,34,9:4

7Circular RNA circCCNB1 inhibits the migration and invasion of nasopharyngeal carcinoma through binding and stabilizing TJP1 mRNA显示文摘Nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)is a malignant tumor that usually occurs in people from Southeast Asia and Southern China.NPC is prone to migration and invasion,leading to poor prognosis.A large number of circular RNAs(circ RNAs)exacerbate the process of metastasis in NPC;however,their underlying mechanisms remain unclear.We found that the circular RNA circ CCNB1,encoded by the oncogene CCNB1,was downregulated in NPC biopsies and cell lines.In vitro assays show that circ CCNB1 inhibits NPC cell migration and invasion.Moreover,circ CCNB1 induces a protein,nuclear factor 90(NF90),to bind and prolong the half-life of tight junction protein 1(TJP1)m RNA.Upregulation of TJP1 enhances tight junctions between cancer cells and inhibits NPC cell migration and invasion.This study reveals a novel biological function of circ CCNB1 in the migration and invasion of NPC by enhancing the tight junctions of cancer cells by binding to NF90 proteins and TJP1 m RNA,and may provide a potential therapeutic target for NPC.Mengyao Zhao Yian Wang Fenghua Tan Lingyun Liu Xiangchan Hou Chunmei Fan Le Tang Yongzhen Mo Yumin Wang Qijia Yan Zhaojian Gong Zheng Li Qianjin Liao Can Guo He Huang Xi Zeng Guiyuan Li Zhaoyang Zeng Wei Xiong Fuyan Wang 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,11:4
8Response of the sensorimotor cortex of cerebral palsy rats receiving transplantation of vascular endothelial growth factor 165-transfected neural stem cells显示文摘Neural stem cells are characterized by the ability to differentiate and stably express exogenous genes. Vascular endothelial growth factor plays a role in protecting local blood vessels and neurons of newborn rats with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Transplantation of vascular endothelial growth factor-transfected neural stem cells may be neuroprotective in rats with cerebral palsy. In this study, 7-day-old Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups:(1) sham operation(control),(2) cerebral palsy model alone or with(3) phosphate-buffered saline,(4) vascular endothelial growth factor 165 + neural stem cells, or(5) neural stem cells alone. The cerebral palsy model was established by ligating the left common carotid artery followed by exposure to hypoxia. Phosphate-buffered saline, vascular endothelial growth factor + neural stem cells, and neural stem cells alone were administered into the sensorimotor cortex using the stereotaxic instrument and microsyringe. After transplantation, the radial-arm water maze test and holding test were performed. Immunohistochemistry for vascular endothelial growth factor and histology using hematoxylin-eosin were performed on cerebral cortex. Results revealed that the number of vascular endothelial growth factor-positive cells in cerebral palsy rats transplanted with vascular endothelial growth factor-transfected neural stem cells was increased, the time for finding water and the finding repetitions were reduced, the holding time was prolonged, and the degree of cell degeneration or necrosis was reduced. 9Biodegradable magnesium pins enhanced the healing of transverse patellar fracture in rabbits显示文摘Displaced fractures of patella often require open reduction surgery and internal fixation to restore the extensor continuity and articular congruity.Fracture fixation with biodegradable magnesium(Mg)pins enhanced fracture healing.We hypothesized that fixation with Mg pins and their degradation over time would enhance healing of patellar fracture radiologically,mechanically,and histologically.Transverse patellar fracture surgery was performed on thirty-two 18-weeks old female New Zealand White Rabbits.The fracture was fixed with a pin made of stainless steel or pure Mg,and a figure-of-eight stainless steel band wire.Samples were harvested at week 8 or 12,and assessed with microCT,tensile testing,microindentation,and histology.Microarchitectural analysis showed that Mg group showed 12%higher in the ratio of bone volume to tissue volume at week 8,and 38.4%higher of bone volume at week 12.Tensile testing showed that the failure load and stiffness of Mg group were 66.9%and 104%higher than the control group at week 8,respectively.At week 12,Mg group was 60.8%higher in ultimate strength than the control group.Microindentation showed that,compared to the Control group,Mg group showed 49.9%higher Vickers hardness and 31%higher elastic modulus at week 8 and 12,respectively.At week 12,the new bone of Mg group remodelled to laminar bone,but those of the control group remained woven bone-like.Fixation of transverse patellar fracture with Mg pins and its degradation enhanced new bone formation and mechanical properties of the repaired patella compared to the Control group.Dick Ho Kiu Chow Jiali Wang Peng Wan Lizhen Zheng Michael Tim Yun Ong Le Huang Wenxue Tong Lili Tan Ke Yang Ling Qin 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,11:3
10New Benchmark for Household Garbage Image Recognition显示文摘Household garbage images are usually faced with complex backgrounds,variable illuminations,diverse angles,and changeable shapes,which bring a great difficulty in garbage image classification.Due to the ability to discover problem-specific features,deep learning and especially convolutional neural networks(CNNs) have been successfully and widely used for image representation learning.However,available and stable household garbage datasets are insufficient,which seriously limits the development of research and application.Besides,the state-of-the-art in the field of garbage image classification is not entirely clear.To solve this problem,in this study,we built a new open benchmark dataset for household garbage image classification by simulating different lightings,backgrounds,angles,and shapes.This dataset is named 30 classes of household garbage images(HGI-30),which contains 18 000 images of 30 household garbage classes.The publicly available HGI-30 dataset allows researchers to develop accurate and robust methods for household garbage recognition.We also conducted experiments and performance analyses of the state-of-the-art deep CNN methods on HGI-30,which serves as baseline results on this benchmark.Zhize Wu Huanyi Li Xiaofeng Wang Zijun Wu Le Zou Lixiang Xu Ming Tan 2022Tsinghua Science and Technology2022,27,5:3
11An Advanced Spectrum Allocation Algorithm for The Across-Cell D2D Communication in LTE Network with Higher Throughput显示文摘In the hybrid LTE cellular network with D2D(Device-to-Device) communication, D2D communication technologies can improve the spectral efficiency significantly. However, the D2D users have to reutilize the spectrum which is allocated to the cellular users. Therefore, the co-channel interference will be more complicated in the case of crosscell D2D communications. In this article, a novel spectrum allocation algorithm for inter-cell D2D communication considering the traffic load is proposed. The traffic load can be balanced by the proposed algorithm. Meanwhile D2D users can multiplex the spectrum allocated to a number of cellular users with a certain percentage to meet the requirements of Qo S of D2D communications and reduce the interference to cellular users.
