| 1 | Settling characteristics of ultrafine iron ore slimes显示文摘The slurry settling characteristics are the most important to design a thickener in process industries. In this work, the iron ore slurry from the screw classifier overflow was used for the settling study. It was observed that the original slurry exhibited a low settling velocity and a turbid supernatant during the settling process. Commercial flocculating agents with anionic, cationic, and nonionic characters were used to improve the settling behavior of suspensions, which were added into the slurry at different ranges of slurry pH values, respectively. The settling results show that the use of flocculants increase the settling rate by several times. Compared with the cationic and non-ionic flocculants, the anionic flocculant is more effective in enhancing the slurry settling rate. The small dose of the anionic flocculant is found to be more effective, but the other flocculants are less effective even at higher dosages. | 2 | Soil-Plant-Microbe Interactions in Stressed Agriculture Management:A Review显示文摘The expected rise in temperature and decreased precipitation owing to climate change and unabated anthropogenic activities add complexity and uncertainty to agro-industry. The impact of soil nutrient imbalance, mismanaged use of chemicals, high temperature,flood or drought, soil salinity, and heavy metal pollutions, with regard to food security, is increasingly being explored worldwide. This review describes the role of soil-plant-microbe interactions along with organic manure in solving stressed agriculture problems. Beneficial microbes associated with plants are known to stimulate plant growth and enhance plant resistance to biotic(diseases) and abiotic(salinity, drought, pollutions, etc.) stresses. The plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR) and mycorrhizae, a key component of soil microbiota, could play vital roles in the maintenance of plant fitness and soil health under stressed environments. The application of organic manure as a soil conditioner to stressed soils along with suitable microbial strains could further enhance the plant-microbe associations and increase the crop yield. A combination of plant, stress-tolerant microbe, and organic amendment represents the tripartite association to offer a favourable environment to the proliferation of beneficial rhizosphere microbes that in turn enhance the plant growth performance in disturbed agro-ecosystem. Agriculture land use patterns with the proper exploitation of plant-microbe associations, with compatible beneficial microbial agents, could be one of the most effective strategies in the management of the concerned agriculture lands owing to climate change resilience. | 4 | Pedotransfer Functions for Estimating Soil Hydraulic Properties: A Review显示文摘Characterization of soil hydraulic properties is important to environment management; however, it is well recognized that it is laborious, time-consuming and expensive to directly measure soil hydraulic properties. This paper reviews the development of pedotransfer functions(PTFs) used as an alternative tool to estimate soil hydraulic properties during the last two decades. Modern soil survey techniques like satellite imagery/remote sensing has been used in developing PTFs. Compared to mechanistic approaches,empirical relationships between physical properties and hydraulic properties have received wide preference for predicting soil hydraulic properties. Many PTFs based on different parametric functions can be found in the literature. A number of researchers have pursued a universal function that can describe water retention characteristics of all types of soils, but no single function can be termed generic though van Genuchten(VG) function has been the most widely adopted. Most of the reported parametric PTFs focus on estimation of VG parameters to obtain water retention curve(WRC). A number of physical, morphological and chemical properties have been used as predictor variables in PTFs. Conventionally, regression algorithms/techniques(statistical/neural regression) have been used for calibrating PTFs. However, there are reports of utilizing data mining techniques, e.g., pattern recognition and genetic algorithm.It is inferred that it is critical to refine the data used for calibration to improve the accuracy and reliability of the PTFs. Many statistical indices, including root mean square error(RMSE), index of agreement(d), maximum absolute error(ME), mean absolute error(MAE), coefficient of determination(r^2) and correlation coefficient(r), have been used by different researchers to evaluate and validate PTFs. It is argued that being location specific, research interest in PTFs will continue till generic PTFs are developed and validated. | 7 | Pathological abnormalities in splenic vasculature in non-cirrhotic portal hypertension:Its relevance in the management of portal hypertension显示文摘BACKGROUND Portal hypertension(PH)is associated with changes in vascular structure and function of the portosplenomesenteric system(PSMS).This is referred to as portal hypertensive vasculopathy.Pathological abnormalities of PSMS has been described in the literature for cirrhotic patients.Raised portal pressure and hyperdynamic circulation are thought to be the underlying cause of this vasculopathy.In view of this,it is expected that pathological changes in splenic and portal vein similar to those reported in cirrhotic patients with PH may also be present in patients with non-cirrhotic PH(NCPH).AIM To investigate pathological abnormalities of splenic vein in patients with NCPH,and suggest its possible implications in the management of PH.METHODS A prospective observational study was performed on 116 patients with NCPH[Extrahepatic portal vein obstruction(EHPVO):53 and non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis(NCPF):63]who underwent proximal splenorenal shunt(PSRS),interposition shunt or splenectomy with devascularization in JIPMER,Pondicherry,India,a tertiary level referral center,between 2011-2016.All patients were evaluated by Doppler study of PSMS,computed tomography portovenogram and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.An acoustic resonance forced impulse(ARFI)scan and abdomen ultrasound were done for all cases to exclude cirrhosis.Intraoperative and histopathological assessment of the harvested splenic vein was performed in all.The study group was divided into delayed and early presentation based on the median duration of symptoms(i.e.108 mo).RESULTS The study group comprising of 116 patients[77(66%)females and 39(34%)males]with NCPH had a median age of 22 years.Median duration of symptoms was 108 mo.The most common presentation in both EHPVO and NCPF patients was upper gastrointestinal bleeding(hematemesis and melena).The ARFI scan revealed a median score of 1.2(1.0-1.8)m/s for EHPVO and 1.5(0.9-2.8)m/s for NCPF.PSRS was performed in 84 patients(two of whom underwent interposition PSRS using a 10 mm Dacron graft);splenoadrenal shunt in 9;interposition mesocaval shunt in 5;interposition 1st jejunal to caval shunt in 1 patient and devascularization with splenectomy in 17 patients.Median presplenectomy portal pressure was 25(range:15-51)mm Hg.In 77%cases,the splenic vein was abnormal upon intraoperative assessment.Under macroscopic examination,wall thickening was observed in 108(93%),venous thrombosis in 32(28%)and vein wall calcification in 27(23%)cases.Upon examination under a surgical magnification loupe,21(18%)patients had intimal defects in the splenic vein.Histopathological examination of veins was abnormal in all cases.Medial hypertrophy was noted in nearly all patients(107/116),while intimal fibrosis was seen in 30%.Ninety one percent of patients with intimal fibrosis also had venous thrombosis.Vein wall calcification was found in 22%,all of whom had intimal fibrosis and venous thrombosis.The proportion of patients with pathological abnormalities in the splenic vein were significantly greater in the delayed presentation group as compared to the early presentation group.CONCLUSION Pathological changes in the splenic vein similar to those in cirrhotic patients with PH are noted in NCPH.We recommend that PH in NCPH be treated as systemic and pulmonary hypertension equivalent in the gastrointestinal tract,and that early aggressive therapy be initiated to reduce portal pressure and hemodynamic stress to avoid potential lethal effects. | Shahana Gupta Biju Pottakkat Surendra Kumar Verma Raja Kalayarasan Sandip Chandrasekar A Ajith Ananthakrishna Pillai | 2020 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2020,12,1: | 3 |

| 12 | Object Matching Across Multiple Non-overlapping Fields of View Using Fuzzy Logic显示文摘An approach based on fuzzy logic for matching both articulated and non-articulated objects across multiple non-overlapping field of views (FoVs) from multiple cameras is proposed. We call it fuzzy logic matching algorithm (FLMA). The approach uses the information of object motion, shape and camera topology for matching objects across camera views. The motion and shape information of targets are obtained by tracking them using a combination of ConDensation and CAMShift tracking algorithms. The information of camera topology is obtained and used by calculating the projective transformation of each view with the common ground plane. The algorithm is suitable for tracking non-rigid objects with both linear and non-linear motion. We show videos of tracking objects across multiple cameras based on FLMA.
